Nexus Queries

Hi,
I have following Queries in the Nexus. Please help me with information.
•1.       M1, M2 & F2 cards in N7K, which one will be used for Routing & Switching?
•2.       vPC primary Nexus 7K & vPC secondary Nexus 5K. It will support? & why?
•3.       Port-channel between N7K & N2K mandatory to communicate hosts connected  to N2Ks?
•4.       By default why VTP mode is Transparent in Nexus Switches? But in IOS by default Server mode.
Thanks
Venkat

When configuring a single sided vPC both switches must be the same model, ie a pair of N5Ks or a pair of N7Ks. With vPC each switch retains its own control plane and data plane. Control messages and data frames flow between the active and standby switches via the peer link.
With double sided vPC you can have a pair of N5Ks and a pair of N7Ks. See the link below for details:

  • I have some queries related to Nexus .

I have some queries regarding Nexus Architecture.
    1) We have MSFC and PFC for layer 3 & layer 2 communication in 6500 .
How layer 2 & 3 traffic is been handled in Nexus. Do they have a specific asics. What are those asics ?
    2) We have three types of line cards in 6500. Classic /fabric enables/fabric only.
Are all line cards in Nexuas are facbric only. What is the Asic which we use for distributed forwarding in line cards in Nexus as we use DFC in 6500.
Fabric modules in line cards are used for providing wire speed or it has other benefits as well. can i say it is just a kind of constellation bus which we had in 6500.
    3) Are there and D bus/R Bus / EOBC on Nexus.
I believ D- bus wont be there as it use fabric. What about the results. Does it use the same LTL index logic to calculate result. I believe it should as it is from same family as it is known as EARL 8.
How does it handle control plane traffic / data and result .
    Lets say I have a machine A connected to Module 2  port 1 ( M1 card)  and machine B connected to module 3 port 1 on same chassis(7018) .
What will be the whole process which it will follow. Let say layer 2 traffic will be handles by Superman and layer 3 will be handles by Tycho.
if any one can explain me the whole packet flow that would be  great.
    4) What is the role of Supervisor in Nexus. It has central Arbitar Asic which id some thing diffrent then 6500. VOQ is also handled here. Can we say if we use central Arbitar Asic on line cards ...They will start working as supervisor some what .
    Any comments will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Namish
    3)

1- Nexus used distributed architecture and all the line cards support L3 except the F1 which you need to mix it with M series to get L3 functionality
2- nexus has diffrnet architecure form 65K however new line cards can provide you line speed 10G per port such as F2
3- Nexus uses fabric modules with full mesh channels between these modules and each line card ( provide you much more capacity than 65K for sure )
for packet flow you can find it on cisco.com because it long a bit however in brief:
    - Unicast Forwarding Distribution Manager (UFDM) interfaces
between URIBs on supervisor and IP FIB on
    I/O modules
    - IP FIB process programs forwarding engine hardware on I/Omodules
4- the Unicast Forwarding Distribution Manager and L2 forwarding manager are examples of what is hosted in the SUP
    hope this help

  • Nexus N7K Sup 1 replacement to SUP2E rollback plan and EPLD upgrad time.

    Dear Expert,
My customer has N7K SUP1 with HA as below and I need to replace 2  with SUP2E 6.1.2 from SUP1(6.1.1).
As per Cisco document, it is required EPLD upgrade from SUP1 to SUP2E with Fabric-2 module, but there is no guide time for EPLD.
    Mod  Ports  Module-Type                         Model              Status
    1    0      Supervisor module-1X                N7K-SUP1           active *
    2    0      Supervisor module-1X                N7K-SUP1           ha-standby
3    48     1000 Mbps Optical Ethernet XL Modul N7K-M148GS-11L     ok
    4    48     1/10 Gbps Ethernet Module           N7K-F248XP-25      ok
    5    24     10 Gbps Ethernet Module             N7K-M224XP-23L     ok
    Mod  Sw              Hw
    1    6.1(1)          3.0
    2    6.1(1)          3.0
    3    6.1(1)          1.3
    4    6.1(1)          1.0
    5    6.1(1)          2.0
    1. Can I have no downtime to do this activity ?
As per Cisco HW installation guide, It seems I should replace 2 SUP at same time, but if I can replace separately, please let me know.
    2. How many minute is required for upgrade EPLD with above HW inventory ?
    I assummed this time about 1hr ~ 90 min(max), is it correct ?
    3. If this upgrade is failed, then I need to rollback from SUP2E(S2-6.1.2) to original SUP1(S1-6.1.1).
Is below step is correct for rollback ?
    - Turn off the power to the switch
    - For each Supervisor 2E module installed in the switch, remove the module and replace it with a Supervisor 1 module.
    - Power on and verify all module is fine, sh version to check to rollback to S1-6.1.1.
    - Run ‘install all epld bootflash:n7000-s1-epld.6.1.1a.img parallel’ after rebooting with original SUP1.
    - Verify configuration and status
    4. when I downgrade to n7000-s1-epld-6.1.1a, only linecard will be downgrade > or All SUP and FAN or Power module EPLD also downgrade ?
If so, how many minute will re required with previous HW inventory ?
    I assummed this time about 40 ~ 60 min(max), is it correct ?
    5. From S1-6.1.1a to S2-6.1.2a upgrade, will N2K FEX Software be upgrade as well ?
I  need to update this downtime by tomorrow morning, so I seek your advice  urgently.
Please share your experinece with me, thanks in advance.
    Jason.

    Hey Jason,
    Regarding your queries:-
    1. Can I have no downtime to do this activity ? As per Cisco HW installation guide, It seems I should replace 2 SUP at same time, but if I can replace separately, please let me know. - Replacing supervisors will have downtime as you need to move hardware physically in and out of chassis.
    2. How many minute is required for upgrade EPLD with above HW inventory ? I assummed this time about 1hr ~ 90 min(max), is it correct ? - Once the supervisor is upgraded, you may upgrade all the modules parallely so considering the boot time of all these modules you are in safe limit.
    3. If this upgrade is failed, then I need to rollback from SUP2E(S2-6.1.2) to original SUP1(S1-6.1.1). Is below step is correct for rollback ? - Indeed its correct.
    4. when I downgrade to n7000-s1-epld-6.1.1a, only linecard will be downgrade > or All SUP and FAN or Power module EPLD also downgrade ? If so, how many minute will re required with previous HW inventory ? I assummed this time about 40 ~ 60 min(max), is it correct ? - Check this:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/datacenter/sw/6_x/epld/epld_rn_6-1.html#wp93995. Also everything will b downgraded so again calculate the booting time + downgrade, i think with this inventory 60 minutes is managable.
    5. From S1-6.1.1a to S2-6.1.2a upgrade, will N2K FEX Software be upgrade as well ? - Yes, it will be upgraded.
I also suggest the following links for smooth upgrade:

  • VSM and Cisco nexus 1000v

    Hi,
We are planning to install Cisco Nexus 1000v in our environment. Before we want to install we want to explore little bit about Cisco Nexus 1000v
    •  I know there is 2 elements for Cisco 1k, VEM and VSM. Does VSM is required? Can we configure VEM individually?
    •   How does Nexus 1k integrated with vCenter. Can we do all Nexus 1000v configuration from vCenter without going to VEM or VSM?
    •   In term of alarming and reporting, does we need to get SNMP trap and get from individual VEM or can be use VSM to do that. OR can we   get    Cisco Nexus 1000v alarming and reporting form VMware vCenter.
    •  Apart from using Nexus 1010 can what’s the recommended hosting location for VSM, (same Host as VEM, different VM, and different physical server)
    Foyez Ahammed

    Hi Foyez,
Here is a brief on the Nexus1000v and I'll answer some of your questions in that:
The Nexus1000v is a Virtual Distributed Switch (software based) from Cisco which integrated with the vSphere environment to provide uniform networking across your vmware environment for the host as well as the VMs. There are two components to the N1K infrastructure 1) VSM 2) VEM.
VSM - Virtual supervisor module is the one which controls the entire N1K setup and is from where the configuration is done for the VEM modules, interfaces, security, monitoring etc. VSM is the one which interacts with the VC.
VEM - Virtual ethernet module are simply the module or virtual linecards which provide the connectivity option or virtual ports for the VMs and other virtaul interfaces. Each ESX host today can only have one VEM. These VEMs recieve their configuration / programing from the VSM.
If you are aware of any other switching products from Cisco like the Cat 6k switches, the n1k behaves the same way but in a software / virtual environment. Where the VSM are equal of a SUPs and the VEM are similar to the line cards. The control and the packet VLANs in the n1k provide the same kind of AIPC and Inband connectivity as the 6k backplane would for the communication between the modules and the SUP (VSM in this case).
*The n1k configuration is done only from the VSM and is visible in the VC.However the port-profiles created from the VSM are pushed from the VSM to the VC and have to be assigned to the virtual / physical ports from the VC.
*You can run the VSM either on the Nexus1010 as a Virtual service blade (VSB) or as a normal VM on any of the ESX/ESXi server. The VSM and the VEM on the same server are fully supported.
You can refer the following deployment guide for some more details: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9902/guide_c07-556626.html

  • Nexus 5596UP igmp querier

    Hi all,
    Problem:
I want to implement "ip igmp snopping querier xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" on a Test-Nexus 5596UP.
    Question:
I can't see/implement the command "ig igmp snooping querier ....." on my nexus.

Nexus 5500 Multicast Config Guide 6.x:
    IGMP Snooping Querier
When PIM is not enabled on an interface because the multicast traffic does not need to be routed, you must configure an IGMP snooping querier to send membership queries. You define the querier in a VLAN that contains multicast sources and receivers but no other active querier.
When an IGMP snooping querier is enabled, it sends out periodic IGMP queries that trigger IGMP report messages from hosts that want to receive IP multicast traffic. IGMP snooping listens to these IGMP reports to establish appropriate forwarding

switch(config-vlan)# ip igmp snooping querier 172.20.52.106

    Bernhard,
    Here you go :-)
"ip igmp snooping" is no longer available under vlan mode. Please reconfigure under "vlan configuration <vlan-id>"
    example:
Nexus5596(config)# vlan configuration 101 ( 101 is the vlan id)
Nexus5596(config-vlan-config))#ip igmp snooping querier 1.1.1.1  >>> here is the way to configure.

  • Email folder transfer on Nexus 7

I have bought my Mum a Nexus 7 and whilst I can set up her email to view on her tablet it only gets new emails and not her old ones or her folders. I think the the problem is her email is with bt but she uses Outlook Express to view and file her emails as she doesn't like using internet based email accounts (she's not very tech savy). Any app I get just does the same thing and even Outlook doesn't duplicate the folders she has set up or retrieve her older emails, does anybody have any solutions please.

    Hi Neill1967,
Welcome and thanks for posting. What setting are you using on the nexus? Is it POP ir Imap? Take a look at How can I tell if I'm using POP or IMAP for my email settings? You'll also see a section on the link on how to check settings in the most common email programs. Let us know if that helps.

  • "Missing" MIBs on Nexus platform ??

Attempting to leverage SNMP to monitor some Nexus switches.  Running into problems...
Looking at Cisco-Entity-FRU-Control MIB, (tree starts at .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.117)
I browsed the Nexus switch looking at the root and it failed. It goes from .....109.x to ....118.x skipping over .117 in the MIB.
Entity Sensor is suppose to be at .1.3.6.1.4.9.9.91.x, the Nexus goes from .....82.x to .....106.x
Cisco-entity-ext-mib is at .195, again not seeing this on the Nexus
The documentation says it is supported, but I can not find the specific OIDs on the device.
Anyone else experiencing the same issue ??  Are the OIDs different than those documented ??  Does something have to be enabled on the switch to see these OIDs ??  Is licensing required ?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    - B. Taylor
P.S. Posting on CSC as I am not getting anywhere with Cisco support... Being told that they "should be there", but they are not.
AAAAAAAaaaaaaahhhhhhh !!  (sorry I am done now)

Here is what I am seeing.
Multiple queries using show snmp traps, snmpwalk remotely confirm the presence of some entity MIBS in the 5020.
    Only these for entity:
    # sh snmp tr | inc ntity
    Trap type                                                              Enabled
    entity               : entity_mib_change                            Yes
    entity               : entity_module_status_change            Yes
    entity               : entity_power_status_change              Yes
    entity               : entity_module_inserted                      Yes
    entity               : entity_module_removed                     Yes
    entity               : entity_unrecognised_module              Yes
    entity               : entity_fan_status_change                  Yes
    Similar for the 5548, 7010.
Commands used from linux of the form: snmpwalk -Ofn -v 2c snmpstring_pwd 192.168.0.1 | grep 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.91
It does not appear to be a Feature which is not on. It does appear to have the MIB not the Cisco temperature extensions. It is unclear if a temperature sensor is in the Cisco 5020 or 5548.
Temperature sensor health monitoring diagnostics are referenced for the 5548 here with very little detail:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/system_management/502_n1_1/Cisco_n5k_system_mgmt_cg_rel_502_n1_1.pdf
Show environment does give temperature information, so it could be scripted to be retrieved, however SNMP is more desirable. It's unclear if NX-OS upgrade would resolve this.
I tend to believe these MIBs are in the device or some of them, perhaps not in others. Perhaps a TAC case on the board will yeild one where the MIBs are able to be queried by snmpwalk...
Anyone who can provide insight would be welcome.

  • Playbook OS 2.0 queries & concern

    Hi there!
I am planning to buy a tablet to use the internet, check apps for news/weather/shopping/restos, play the latest games, Youtube, make notes, watch my movies whilst on my holiday.
I'm looking at the Playbook and with the new 2.0 OS is it worth it? I have some serious queries & concerns if the Playbook is worth the plunge and worth the money.
    1. Can it send any files via bluetooth to any bluetooth-enabled device?
    2. Does it wake-up/start-up really quick like the iPad or those new Android 4.0 tablets?
    3. Can it play on its own .avi & .mkv files without the use of an app?
    4. Can it auto-connect to a neafby wifi if available?
    5. Can i now access/download a handful of Android apps like what i have heard? If yes is this via the App World or as a different folder or "main" app?
    6. How many hours can it do if with just "minimal" use? (surfung the net, downloading an app whilst watching a movie or playing games)
    7. Can it do multitasking like the iPad or an Android 4.0 tablet?
    8. Can one easily access running apps and easily cancle/stop them?
    9. Is there a notification bar (like Android) to access common settings, etc.
I believe these questions are really important in helping me decide what tab to choose.
Shall i stick to the tried-and-tested Android 4/4.1 tablet like the Nexus 7 et al or can the Playbook do all those ones i mentioned above?
    Please advice.

gino, you might do well to search the forums here for some answers.
    1.  Somewhat a vague question for "any", but you can find out if the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet supports a specific Bluetooth enabled device, check the information available for the Bluetooth enabled device to see what profiles it uses. The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet supports the following profiles.  http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB26506
    2. From "off", it is not quick, approx 2-3 mins. From on Standby, it is instant on swiping your finger from bottom to top bezel. I rarely every turn mine off.
    3. Find here:  Article ID: KB26518 Media types that are supported on the BlackBerry PlayBook
    4. Yes, can connect via WiFi. Also via Bluetooth tether to your BlackBerry IF it has a signal, and thirdly using the BlackBerry Bridge connection.
    5. Some via AppWorld, some via sideloading. According to the app.
    6. MY experience, watching a movie with solid use, 4-5 hours. Games, music etc., longer.
    7. iPad can't truly multitask. The Playbook does, absolutely.
    8. Yes. Instantly.
    9. Yes. The notification are in the upper left corner, Options/Settings in the upper right.
    Good luck.

  • Cisco Nexus 5548UP

    Hi
I need a switch that supports FC, FCoE and iSCSI traffic. The switch that has been suggested to us is Cisco Nexus 5548UP.
I have the following queries regarding this switch:
    1)       At our end, I have AMS 2100 Hitachi Storage which has iSCSI & FC Ports. I also have Qlogic CNA card at the server end which supports both ISCSI & FCOE. For FCoE protocol based traffic, the storage to switch connection will have to be FC and the switch to server connection will be FCoE. Can you please confirm whether, if this will be possible through the proposed Cisco Nexus 5548UP switch?
    2)       The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
    3)       We are going to use  -SFP-FC4G-SW & SFP-10G-SR SFP for fiber connectivity. Can you please let us know the what these SFP are used for and whether they assist in FC and FCoE traffic forwarding?
    4)       We are also going to use Nexus 5500 Storage License, 8 Ports. Does this indicate that only 8 ports of the switch can be connected to the storage? Among these ports, can we configure 4 ports for FC and 4 ports for iSCSI (keeping in mind that our storage has both FC and iSCSI ports)?
    5)       Is there any License required for enable FC, FCoE and iSCSI protocols?
An early resolution of these queries will enable us to make a decision regarding the switch.
    Thanks
    Bhanudas Mali

The specification for the Nexus 5548UP switch claims that it supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Can you please confirm if this relates to iSCSI support that the switch provides?
The "UP" in the Nexus 5548 stands for Universal Port.  This means that each port can support FC, FCoE and Ethernet.  So, a 5548 has 32 ports of SFP/SFP+.  Each port can support and push 10 Gbps at a 1:1 oversubscription rate.
There is an optional 16-port SFP/SFP+ module, N55-M16UP, which will add an additional 16 Universal Ports.
Because they are "universal" they can support 1/10 Gbps FCoE and Ethernet as well as 1, 2, 4 and 8 Gbps FC.

  • Nexus F2 Modules clarification

    Dears,
Attached are the 2 no's screenshot 1 no's is the screenshot from the datasheet where the cisco  says the he fabric architecture scales beyond 15 terabits per second (Tbps), How cisco calculate figure 15 TB ????
The Nexus 2 screenshot attached  i understood very well and on basis on that screenshot i am calculating but i am not able to reach to the 15 terabits
    thanks

Okay, after a bit of reading I think I understand where some of the confusion has arisen.
Firstly and most importantly the math performance sheet you posted works out the maximum possible throughput per slot whereas the calculation I provided in my first post is working out the actual maximum throughput.
The difference is dependant on the I/O module. Just because the slot provides a certain amount of throughput this does not mean that there are I/O modules that can use all that throughput ie.
each Fabric-2 module can provide 110Gbps per slot and you can have up to 5 of these modules so you can get a maximum possible throughput of 550Gbps per slot.
The I/O module however can only generate up to 480Gbps which is the actual maximum throughput so there is unused throughput per slot. This is simply because Cisco have not released any I/O modules that can generate more than that (or at least I'm not aware they have).
Which means using your calculation will generate higher numbers than mine.
Which may surprise you because as you said in your first post you were struggling to get to the figure Cisco were quoting.
To get the 15Tbps figure Cisco use the largest chassis (7018) and Fabric-2 modules which means we need to apply your math performance sheet using those as input. So leaving out the supervisors because my initial calculation didn't include them -
    16 x I/O modules with dual traces = 32
    5 Fabric-2 modules = x5
    Total 55Gbps traces  = 160
    160 x 55Gbps = 8.6Tbps (rounded up)
    Full duplex operation 8.6Tbps x 2 = 17.2Tbps
As you can see this figure is higher than my calculated figure because of the reason explained earlier ie. my figure is dependant on the actual throughput of the I/O module.
Hope all the above made sense.
If it doesn't or you have any more queries please feel free to ask.
    Jon

  • Could I have CASE or IF statement in FMS queries?

Is it possible to have case statements in FMS queries:
    For example:
    SELECT T0.[U_DepoistfeeON] case
when T0.[U_DepoistfeeON] is NOT BLANK  then $[$38.111.160]='Deposit Fee'
when T0.[U_DepoistfeeON] is BLANK  then  then $[$38.111.160]=BLANK
    end FROM OITM T0
What is wrong with above query please? Thank you very much.
I do not mind even if above query is doable with an IF statement in it.

Hi Rahul, this is what I want -
I have a user defined field attached to item master OITM. The field is called : U_DepoistfeeON
The above field contains additional depositFee taxes for selling beer bottles.
I have also created a new tax as part of Freight handling. While on Sales Order screen, the Freight (unhide first through forms field) drop down can have the new tax type selected automatically "Deposit Fee".
Thus, if the line item is of beer type that has U_DepositfeeON, then Freight field should automaticlally pick the type "Deposit Fee".
If U_DepositfeeON is zero then I would like the Freight field on Sales Order screen ($38.111.160) set to blank.
I tried to achieve this through following using case statement.
    select T0.U_DepoistfeeON
    from oitm t0
    case
    when T0.U_DepoistfeeON 0
    then $http://$38.111.160='Deposit Fee'
    when T0.U_DepoistfeeON = 0
    then $http://$38.111.160=''
    else
    $http://$38.111.160=''
    end;
Of course it doesn't work. Note: I know I typed in DepoistfeeON, the error is not due to that.
    Thanks.

  • Why does Android Reader smart zoom not work as described on Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet?

The smart zoom feature in Android Acrobat Reader allows you to double tap on a text column and the reader will zoom up to the column in improve readability.  This feature works great on the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 smart phone, but only appears to zoom half way on the Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
    Is this a bug?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

  • How to Dene a Data Link Between Queries: Bind Variables

This is an interesting topic and I cannot get it to work using Bind Variables.
    I have 2 queries: Q1 and Q2. Q2 needs c_id, account_code and account_type from Q1.
Whe I run the data template below, I get only the data for Q1.
Now people may argue that there is no data in Q2 for the relevant clause. So if I even remove the where clause in Q2 I still get no joy i.e Data appears for Q1 but not for Q2

  • How to use one WAD template for all the available queries

    Hi,
I have created a WAD template... Now we have close to 25 queries which will use that template for displaying their output at Portal...
Is there any way that i don`t have to create multiple copies of my WAD template...
I.e. all queries would call that same template through portal...

    Hi,
The Bex report uses the Standard Template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN while it is executed.
So if your sure that the look and feel of all the Reports is going to remain same, you don't need to even attach all these Queries to Templates in WAD.
When you execute the BEx query, it would pick up the standard template and run it in portal.
But if you want to customize the Report Template:
    1) You can change this standard template 0ANALYSIS_PATTERN  and customize it according to ur requrement in WAD.
    2) Or you can create a copy of this standard template and change it as required. Then change the template in spro (transaction RSCUSTV27) to point to this Z template.
Let me know if you need more details.

  • Error while Activating / running Bex queries/reports

    Hello
I have following ERRORs while activating / running BEx reports/queries.
    1. While Activating BEx reports, I keel getting following ERRORS
Object directory entry R3TR ELEM E341OIR6G715GUMGN0MRXP3MA does not exist
    Error when activating element BX7FOOKQB4588RROCBTC2YVZN
BEx transport request 'BIDK901352' is not available or not suitable
    2. While running the BEx report/query in Bex Analyzer, I'm getting ERROR in entering the parameters, its NOT allowing / giving me option to select the parameters, for example for 0COSTCENTER, it is NOT displaying list costcenters to select before I can RUN that particular report.
    3. How can I trouble shoot ERRORs related to BEx and Portal connectivity.
    4. How would I setup the Variants for a Bex query/report ? Are these Variants for per user basis / per report basis. Can I have each variant for particular users OR all users must select their own variant each time when they RUN the report ?
Thanks, Sorry I have asked multiple questions, in jst one thread.

Goto SE03 -->Search for Objects in Requests/Tasks  option , select the object type and execute it will give all the transports it has collected before ..
Also you can use transport connection in RSA1 and select the query and find out all the objects in query locked by what request etc ..
    Thanks,
