NForce Driver Installation Procedure

What are the official steps to installing new nForce drivers?  I have read everything from install over the existing drivers to uninstall the existing drivers --> boot into safe mode --> Uninstall the NVidia Video drivers --> Use Drive Cleaner to wipe everything out (nForce and ForceWare related) --> boot into normal mode and install new nForce drivers --> reboot and install new ForceWare (video) drivers.
Which way is correct or is there another 'preferred' way?
Thanks gang,
Jopopsy

There really shouldn't be any need to uninstall drivers before updating them.
The whole idea of an install is that it should take care of this for you. I generally just run the setup and let it run through, followed by a reboot, and have never had any problems. Why make things more difficult for yourself?

  • Graphic driver installation problems - Qosmio G20 PQG21

Attempting to install latest graphic driver (available on the toshiba u.k. site) produces an error message that file NV4_mini.sy is unreadable, although it is clearly there. Any ideas?
I've tried downloading several times and unzipping into various locations. Incidentally, do toshiba have any technical support at all, or is it left to their customers to provide it for each other for free - they don't seem to have any method of contact on their site?

Thanks for your suggestions, which I will try. In answer to your questions. The driver is the correct one according to Tosiba and the model ID is clearly marked on the underside of the laptop.
The problem appears to revolve around the installer's inability to recognise a required file although there is a file of the correct name in the download. It would be nice if Toshiba addressed thid issue - wouldn't it? I am aware of the installation procedure for .zip file downloads - the problem is not in this area.

  • Installation Procedures Proven Best Practices 10 Years...

I wish to address two topics under this posting:
    1. The intentional use of the v1.1 Combo update
    2. Recommended pre-installation procedures that have proven to work for me over the last 10 years. I make the following statements for inferential purposes: I use my macs to make a living: professional video, film, for broadcast, as well as technical work in industrial engineering, both elec. and mech. I do all my own maint. and repairs, hard and soft.
    1. Someone had mentioned that the v1.1 combo update was applicable to only a handful of machines that had problems using the original 10.6.3 combo update. Well this is obviously not true as Apple has removed the original 10.6.3 combo update download from their support downloads and replaced it with the v1.1 combo update. Additionally, the details of the v1.1 combo update do not specify specific machines... obviously, there was something amiss with the original 10.6.3 combo updater download.
    2. Prior to executing major updates I always follow these procedures and policies, most of which I must credit to a gentleman who posts on this site under the name "Kappy", who has helped me numerous times over the last 10 years, is very approachable, and knowledgeable:
A). Never perform major updates on a "bread-n-butter" (i.e. a mac you use to make a living) machine if you need to use it within a week of doing the update.
B). Plan on doing a full restore, taking the appropriate precautions such as cloning / backing up, etc...Hopefully you'll be presently surprised and won't need to restore.
C). Monitor the support discussions for at least a week before doing the update.... patients is a sign of wisdom. "Fools rush in where angles fear to tread"...
D). Set energy saver (system preferences) not to engage, then Run all other mac and 3rd party software updates
E). Download the required update from apples support downloads. Important: if it is a OS update, ALWAYS download and install the "combo" updater. It contains additional fixes, etc. that the regular update does not, and that you may have missed. Always download major updates, do not use the OS auto updater (various reasons).
F). Reboot, and using Disk Utility, verify the target disk, and repair permissions.
G). Repair preferences and run OSX Cocktail (both are free, google them for download sites)
    H). Reboot, Run Diskwarrior ($100 from alsoft.com)
I). Run Drive Genius repair utility ($99 prosoftengineering.com)
J). Reboot, Run Drive Genius defrag utility
K). Reboot, Run Disk Warrior again
L). Boot into "safe mode" by holding down the shift key while restarting. (this disables any 3rd party software, virus software, etc. that very often causes failures during major intalls / upgrades).
M). Install your update from the previously downloaded update file (item E, above).
    N). Reboot, and perform items D, F, G, H, I, J, K again.
    Hope this helps!
    Your Pragmatic Apple Fan
    John

Hi Kappy, thanks for weighing in. Hope all is well with you. With regard to using software updater. I choose not to use this feature for major updates because it eliminates another external variable which has potential to cause a problem with the download and installation process (e.g. LANs, WANs, etc.). The download and install process becomes one while a "hick-up" in either can cause problems. Circumnavigating the software updater allows me more control. I also always choose to use the combo updater because, while it includes integral updates that are suppose to be found in the singular updaters, I assume that the code for the combo updaters is written subsequent to the singular updaters and thereby, in effect, supersedes the previously released updates. I do not, however lay claim to knowledge of Apple software team's configuration control protocols. I would assume that they have many similarities to the Configuration Control/Management. procedures I use, DoD MIL-STD 973 / ANSI-EIA 649. Knowing this, there is undoubtedly some degree of fallibility, however minute. Additionally, I would also assume that using a combo updater serves to possibly "reset" certain system settings / code, that may have become corrupted over time. Stemming from this rational, is my preference to always use the combo updater; not required, but preferential. I will say though, I never suffer the problems codified in these forums by other users, with respect to installation problems. I must conclude this is due to the aforementioned protocols I follow. However, I always remain open to your suggestions and instructions as they have served myself and others quite well over the years.
Take care Kappy, and good to hear from you again.
    Respectfully,
    John

  • Satellite M70-193: graphic driver installation - minimum requirements issue

I cannot Install Driver on my M70-193, this meesage is coming " this system does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit. what can i do ??Thankss..

    Hi
    Very strange ?:|
How did you try to install the graphic driver and what graphic driver did you try to install???
You should use the on from the Toshiba page.
I would recommend downloading firstly the graphic driver.
Then go to the device manger and remove (uninstall) the graphic card from the system.
After new reboot the OS should find automatically the new device and would ask to start the installation.
In this case you should follow the installation procedure and install the new downloaded driver.
    good luck

    Dear forum members,
I want to install Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme on my Windows XP x64 Professional computer, but i am not able to succesfully finish 64bit X-Fi driver installation. Whether i use newer x64bit X-Fi beta driver or older official x64bit X-Fi driver, the installation of the driver stops at the end of the installation, when "CTDVINST.DLL" file is being installed and MY COMPUTER REBOOTS instantly. After the reboot, i am being asked to install Soundblaster X-Fi driver again and again. So all the X-Fi software installs well, but when i want to upgrade to x64bit drivers downloaded from Creative web site, the installation process reboots my computer right at the end of it, when "CTDVINST.DLL" file (it seems to be the last file in the driver package) is mentioned.
Help me please solve this problem, so that i can use my new Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme on my computer soon.
    Thank you very much.

  • MSI - NX6800 GT driver installation problem

    Hello,
I've got a tricky problem, i'll try to give as much details as possible, so if i forget something, just ask =)
    My Configuration :
Motherboard : Asus A7n8X Deluxe (first version)
    CPU : Athlon XP 2400+
    RAM : 1.5Gb (DDR Ram)
    Graphic Card : MSI - NX6800 GT (256 Mb)
    Hard Drives : 80GB(Western Digital) and 250Gb(Hitachi)
Ok, i haven't put too many hardware informations because apparently the problem isnt coming from the hardware side.
First, i've been running with this configuration (just without the second hard drive), for a year and a half, on Windows 2000, and it's been working fairly fine. No problems detected.
i've acquired a second Hard Drive a few weeks ago (the 256 Gb one), so i've decided to put a fresh install of XP on it.
Installed XP without any problems, but it's while installing the drivers that the problem popped up.
I've installed Windows XP Professional on my newly acquired Hard Drive (the 250Gb one), and then tried to reinstall the latest NVidia Drivers for the Geforce.
I've first installed the drivers of the motherboard (1.16 from Asus), then i installed Direct X 9.0c, and i finally installed the latest Nvidia drivers for GFX Cards (91.31).
Unfortunately, right in the middle of the installation of these drivers, the screen switched to black, then went to sleep mode (like if there was no video output). Finally the computer reboots, and i have to use the latest working configuration to be able to go back to Windows XP again.
I've tried with different versions of the drivers for the motherboard and for the Geforce 6800 GT, but still the same problem.
So for now i'm still using only my first Hard Drive with Windows 2000 on it, till we find what to do to solve the problem. (and since it works on Windows 2000, the problem can only be a software one).
Thank you in advance for your help!
PS : Here is the detail of the 1.16 drivers from Asus :
This nForce WinXP driver package contains the below components:
    Audio driver 3.14 (WHQL'd)
    Audio utilities 3.07
    Network driver 2.81 (WHQL'd)
    GART driver 2.78 (WHQL'd)
    SMBus driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
    Memory controller driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
IDE driver 2.70 In The Box (WHQL'd)
    IDE driver 3.07 Full Driver
    Installer 3.11

I've already tried the Vid Card on another comp, and it works without any problems there.
I've been making an hypothesis, though the chance that its coming from that is very slim i think.
A bit more than a year ago, there was a storm(pretty violent and really near my house), and my comp was plugged on (though it was shut down). After that incident, 2 USB slots of my mobo were dead, along with one network card on it. But the rest was working fine. So i've been working if it couldnt have affected a bit the rest. I have no idea how it works whn installing new drivers, about the tests it does with the system and hte hardware. But if it tries to take full power on the vid card, it might be that. I dont know how i could verify that though.

  • HT201372 used this to make a bootable copy for a new hard drive installation. copied the install find but gave error code 110 when making the disk bootable.. Any help in what this code is

Used createinstallmedis to make a copy of the Mavericks app for use in a new hard drive install.. Copied find but gave error code 110 and failed to make the flash drive bootable.. Any help in what errror code means?

Did you partition and format the flash drive first? See the following:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • Windows 8.1 bootcamp install fails at NVIDIA Driver Installer

I've been trying to install windows 8.1 natively w/ boot camp on my Macbook Pro Retina, 15", Mid-2012 8gb Ram 2.3GHz.
I had a few issues with partitioning and everything, but eventually got the point where the windows installer ran, allowed me to create my sign in, etc. Then it guided me through the quick boot camp installer for windows. Once this finished, a small window appeared stating to be the NVIDIA Driver Installer. This remained on the screen for a few moments, and then the screen went black and remained so permanantly. On a cold restart and reboot to the Windows drive, it starts right back up in to this black screen. I've already tried to clean install Windows 8.1 again, same problem.
    Thanks for your help!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
If you can use Wi-Fi before installing the Boot Camp drivers, I recommend you to install the most recent NVIDIA driver from the NVIDIA website first > http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/73784
The Boot Camp installer installs an older version, so if you are having problems, it is better to install the most recent version, so the NVIDIA driver installation step will probably be skipped.

  • Installation procedure for WRT54GC does not detect router on Windows Vista.

Today I bought a used WRT54GC, supposed to be in working condition.  I ran the installation procedure on my Vista laptop, following the detailed steps to the letter, and all was going fine, until the detection routine.  All the router's lights were blinking, and others solid, as per the instructions, but a few seconds later I got a message stating that ".. Setup was not able to find a Compact Linksys Wireless router on the network....etc".
I immediately went to reset the unit, inserting a pin and waiting until the power light blinked several times (about 30 seconds).  This did not help.  I also reset the DSL modem, just in case, to no avail.
I have contacted the vendor, and he users that the unit was fine.
The Linksys support page has several user's forums references to how to 'connect' using Windows Vista, but all assume the unit has already been installed and working, which I found frustrating, since I cannot install it!
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    gherna1

The trick is not to use the installation disk, but connect the PC/laptop directly to the router (wired), let it assign the dynamic IP address (default action), and then use the router's interface to set it up.  Its address is 192.168.1.1 (it may be different for other models or brands).
I was able to set it up this way and now I'm enjoying it.  Thanks to all who offered their advice.
    Regards,
    gherna1.

  • I need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?  i use OS X

i need to use an hp 6215 printer with my mac book pro.  the driver installation disk doesn't work.  where can i get a driver that will work?

With the Lion it is essentially unnecessary to resort to external driver disks. What's more, most of those disks are incompatible with the OS and should not be used. The system already carries a wide variety of printer description files (aka PPDs, which is what modern printing systems use as "drivers") for a lot of brands. And there was an HP printer update just two days ago.
Just checked in mine and did indeed find that the HP OfficeJet 6200 Series, with or without Fax, is covered with the latest update.
So just go thru the motions of creating a proper printer instance:
Make sure the Mac "sees" the printer on the network.
System Preferences / Print & Scan
Click on the + button on the left column
Select the appropriate type of printer, will use IP for the rest of this
Select HP Jetdirect - Socket, default for HP network printers
Type the IP address or look it up
Name the printer for easy identification on the print dialog
Let the Mac identify the printer model or manually choose the driver
    Click Add.
Once the instance pops up in the list, can click on Options & Supplies for further config.

  • Stream 14 Driver installation Issues on Windows 7

I am wierdly struggling with something I have done countless times before with other laptops - remove Windows 8 and install Windows 7 I've so far disabled Secure Boot, Enabled legacy support, removed all  hard drive partitions and installed Windows 7 which has gone on without issue, the problem is the driver installation. I (as always) download the drivers from: -a) The PC manufacturer if present (not in this case)b) Direct from the hardware vendor I do not use driver download software (trust issues) The first problem driver is the AMD chipset driver, I have downloaded the Catalyst driver many times and yet each install does not actually install any usable drivers (v14.12) which lists the chipset as supported OK, I'll download the broadcom driver for the inbuilt wifi, this was confirmed by the VEN and PID numbers however despite downloading the correct broadcom driver it did not install the wifi device. I thought OK, i'll add a wifi dongle and use that to triple check I have the right chipset driver by using their auto detect feature. However the same problem has occured, I checked the VED and PID number against realteks drivers to find the right one but it will not install this either.  This has, at the moment, left me with a HP Stream 14 with Windows 7 and no drivers and no internet connection to use driver dectection. Note: drivers downloaded and copied onto Stream 14 using my PC.  Any Thoughts?

Hey, tsumbled upon your thread googling for the same thing. Changed OS from Windows 8.1 to 7. Managed to install USB3 driver, by installing AMD Chipsets drivers from AMD's site, the latest ones should work.  Chipset driver also installs support for HDMI Audio, SM Bus, SATA, PSP. I also had problem installing graphics driver (Radeon R3), the latest Catalyst drivers (15.7) weren't working (the .inf file didn't contain needed DEV_9854). But fortunately the Latest Windows Beta driver (15.6) from AMD did work. Broadcom BCM43142 Wifi driver, I downloaded from HP - http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?idx=2&swEnvOID=&action=driverDocument&itemLocale=&swLang=&swItemId=ob_133353_1&mode=4 For the rest, Windows 8.1 drivers worked.

  • Do I have to activate AHCI mode on a Mountain Lion after a new SSD drive installation?

    Hello All,
Do I have to activate AHCI mode on a Mountain Lion after a new SSD drive installation?
I have a new Corsair GT SSD sata 3 drive on my mack book, I have read on corsair web page that is good tho activate the AHCI and TRIM but I cant find information about how to do this on OS X.
    Thank you all

That's information for non-Apple hardware. You can activate TRIM using third-party software: TRIM Enabler 2.2. However, most new SSDs should not need TRIM activated on the Mac.
