[nForce] K7N2 Delta-L Memory change

I have just purchased 1Gb PC3200 400fsb Ram. Now it is installed my PC keeps crashing. Ive noticed that it says in the description that nforce 2 does not support x4 memory for 1GB. Is x4 memory single banked 4 memory chip sticks as this is what I have purchased and am wondering if this is the problem?. If I replace this memory with my old PC2700 1GB double banked memory will this cause a problem for my Athlon 3200 to run at 400MHz? Can I mix the ram to give me 1.5 Gb (2x single bank 400 and 1 x double bank 512Mb)

According to this site: Memnotes (haha, the dude's name is Robert Hanco_ck and the last 4 letters get bleeped).  Oh well...
"Some memory modules (usually cheaper ones) use a x4 configuration. This is where there are only 4 data bits coming out of each chip on the module instead of the usual 8 or 16 bits. This means that 16 memory chips will be required to make up the required 64 bits coming out of the module. Note that because a module has 16 chips on it, it is NOT necessarily x4, because it could be x8 and be double-sided (effectively two modules in one). However, if a module has less than 16 chips on it, it cannot be x4. These x4 modules are apparently NOT compatible with Intel chipsets, which all Dell machines use. They only work on other chipsets like VIA's. If you have a module with 16 chips on it, the only way to tell whether it is x4 is by checking the specs for it. Usually, x4 memory is found in the form of cheaper or generic memory."
I doubt you have x4 memory (unless you do have 16 memory chips on it.  Most DIMMs I see have 8 (4 on each side).  I bet you need to set your timings and voltage manually.  I've never had to do this, as I always use Corsair RAM, and it reports correctly via SPD in BIOS.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Memory problems

I'm trying to burn in a system in a 50 deg C (122 deg F) room for a minimum of 12 hours.  The main system components are as follows:
    Motherboard:  MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR
    CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2800+
    Memory: 2x512 OCZ PC3200 EL
My problem is that the burn-in software continues to freeze up during the memory test.  I've already contacted the software manufacturers and the software is stable.  It's a problem with the way the motherboard handles the memory.  I've tried putting the memory in dual channel configuration and changing the timing settings in the BIOS.  The SPD settings are 2.5-3-3-7.  Right now I have them at 3-4-3-8.  It's a lot more stable than it was under the default settings but it still freezes up sometime after 7 hours.  Unfortunately, I wasn't around when it froze so I don't know exactly how long it lasted.  I can say that after 7 hours, it wasn't showing any slowdown in performance.  If anyone could think of anything else I might be able to do to get the system stable, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for the suggestions.  The CPU FSB is 200, so it's already matched up there.  And we have a ton of fans already.  There are two in the front, 4 inside and 1 on the back.  It's a custom case, 2u high.  The power supply is oversized and more than adequate to provide the required power.  I have four of these units running right now.  Two with 2x512 sticks and two with 1x1024 sticks.  For each combination, the memory clock speed for one is 166 and 200 for the other.  I have been loosening up the memory timings trying to get the system stable, but it still isn't.  If the power supply is good, and I'm unable to cool the system anymore due to limititions within the case, is there anything you can think of to stabilize the system.  Maybe other settings in the BIOS or suggestions on how to go about getting good timings for the memory.  Thanks.

  • K7N2 Delta ILSR memory problem

I have a K7N2 Delta ILSR board with Athlon XP 2500 with 2 Gig of Mushkin Black Line ram (the ones that are
suppose to be CL2). I change the FSB to 200, and my memory won't run at CL2. Want to raise the Dram voltage
to 2.8V to see if it would make a difference. I looked all over this site for the modded bios 7.8. Does anyone
have the modded bios??? Any help would be appreciated.......

He/She overclocked the 2500+, to make it become a 3200+. Done it myself, but it mostly works with the first step of the 2500+. - That means the overclock forum.
Well, CAS 2 is a very tight timing, which I don't think is possible. In general on Socket A systems:
    - FSB 133/266 --> CAS 2 or 2.5
    - FSB 166/333 --> CAS 2.5
    - FSB 200/400 --> CAS 3

ok i have K7N2 Delta-ILSR and i moving my computer from my bedroom to my basment because of construction and when i went to plug my computer into my apc powerbar the plug didnt go all the way in the socket and then a flash of electricty, when seeing this i wasn't sure what to think so i went ahead and pluged it into the powerbar socket next to it, then when i hit power button on my computer it gets power but wont post and the D-Bracket that came with my board that has diagnostic LEDs is saying " Memory Detection Test " i tried changing my stick of ram(Samsung PC3200 512mb DDR400) from all the slots and the same results then i tried a stick of corsair ram and the same results. I also tried clearing cmos, and having my settings on safe mode.

Do you have a different power supply you can test?
You did unplug the power supply before clearing the CMOS right?
Have you checked the stickies? Especially this one? https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=64248.0

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta Premium stuck at Chipset Initialisation

Hi there, I'm new to these boards, how do you all do?
As stated in the subject I'm having trouble with a new K7N2 Delta Premium which is stuck at Chipset Initialisation.  I'm not going to write out a long explenation here as I have been battling with this for a week and I have a thread in another forum where lots has already been discussed. Hopefully it will save time in people suggesting stuff that's already been tried etc.  Here's the link.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Matt

Sorry Richard but it had been a long day and I just wanted to get a quick post in before going to bed and hopefully some answers by morning.
I'll hold back on the sig for the moment if you don't mind as I haven't yet got a working PC with an MSI board and am using components swapped, borrowed and thieved from other PCs so to list it all probably wouldn't fit
Here's a list of everything I've used so far.
    AMD Athlon XP-M 2200+
    AMD Athlon 800
    ASRock K7-Upgrade
    MSI K7N2-Delta Premium
    2*256MB PC2700 (Generic)
2*512MB PC2700 Kingston Value RAM (Sourced from an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe based PC with an AMD Sempron 2800+)
    GeForce4 Ti4200 64MB
Radeon 9600Pro 256MB (Sourced from an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe based PC with an AMD Sempron 2800+)
    120GB IDE HDD
    Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
    Lite-On 32x CD-RW
    Asus TV FM Card
    300W PSU (Spare) (3.3V = 15A, 5V = 35A, 12V = 11A)
    350W PSU (Original)
    350W TaurusX PSU (3.3v = 20A, 5V = 33A, 12V = 18A) (Sourced from an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe based PC with an AMD Sempron 2800+)
Any combination of all the above components produces the same result, all items power up and the motherboard stays in Chipset Initialisation mode.  All components have been tested and are known to work in other PCs (namely the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe based one) except the 2 motherboards and CPUs.
Now for a slightly condensed version of all my posts from the other Forum:
    Quote
On monday I turned the PC (configured using the ASRock mobo, Athlon XP-M, Ti4200, Generic RAM and 350W PSU) and it booted to the welcome screen fine except I had no response from my keyboard and mouse. Being wireless models I scanned for a different channel but no luck so I tried the reset switch on my case. The computer began to boot and nothing happened. The monitor wouldn't come on and the PC just sat there with the HD light stuck on.
I left it and took the PC to work the next day (I work in an IT department so could 'borrow' a few spares to try out). At work I swaped out the graphics card (it's hadn't been initialising properly when I used drivers other than those that came with windows, stuck at 4 colours at 640*480) for an FX 5200, no change. I swapped the graphics cards back and took out a stick of RAM, no change. I swapped the two RAM sticks around and the PC booted, great, I thought, faulty memory, at least it works I'll buy a replacement the weekend.
Took the PC home and turned it on again, same problem as before. I tried swapping both sticks of RAM in and out as well as re-seating the graphics card, no change. I tried the RAM and graphics card in another PC and it booted fine so I thought, dead mobo.
Today I go to the local computer fair and buythe MSI mobo. I reinstall everything and turn the PC on, same as before, only the diagnostic LEDs tell me the board is stuck in 'chipset initialisation mode'. I try chopping and changing the RAM again and try the Radeon from one of my other PCs, no change. Wonderful, I now have the feeling that my lovely 2 week old XP-M 2200+ that I hadn't had a chance to play with yet has broken so I swap it out for the Athlon 800. Hallelujah the PC boots first time and I go straight into the BIOS. I check all the settings and enable/disable the onboard peripherals I do/don't want/need. Restart the PC and it's back into Chipset Initialisation mode again. Doh! So I know think I messed up on the BIOS settings somewhere so I reset it, no change. I reset it again (this time removing the battery from the board as well as unplugging the mains and setting the jumper), no change. I try swapping out the RAM and graphics card again, still no luck.

All my testing is performed on the desk for my second PC which uses a standard MS wired desktop.
I've tried pairing the PC down to just CPU, RAM, graphics card. When the PC was first tried with the XP-M 2200+ and the MSI board I even tried it with just a Graphics card and with just RAM, same result.
All components apart from the CPUs and TV Tuner have been swapped out with components in another PC and that PC booted with each one of them in and is still booting now.
Tommorrow I'll try the TaurusX PSU and try the board layed out on the table and see how it goes.
    Quote
I've tried swapping the power supply and it still wouldn't boot. On a whim I removed a memory stick, yes it booted. I left the pc for a while sat in the BIOS and all was good. I took the risk and swapped the CPU for the better XP-M 2200+. This booted first time too, infact it booted with both memory sticks in. Great, it was a dodgy power supply, except that power supply is now in the ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe PC I was robbing parts from and working fine.
After leaving the PC sat in the BIOS HW monitor for a while watching CPU temps I decided to restart and get on with installing windows. Doh! back to chipset initialisation mode again
Next step..... try it out of the case on my dining room table.
    Quote
I've now tried the MSI motherboard on my desk (wooden) with just the XP-M 2200+, Ti4200, Kingston Memory, hard drive and Diagnostic LED bracket connected. It results in the same problem (and this is with yet another power supply to the previous two being used, the 300W one) as well as the TaurusX PSU, the PC sits at Chipset initialisation stage.
Some more info for you. Whilst researching a problem on a PC at work (uses a K7N2 board), I found people stating that the nForce2 chipset has problems with certain types of memory (news to me, I've got two other nForce2 based PCs both A7N8X-E Deluxes). So I decided to try yet again to boot one of my other PCs with this memory, both dimms managed so fine. I also decided to run a proper overnight memtest on the dimms indivdually, the first one went almost 8 hours and 56 tests with no errors, the second one had done one test by the time I left for work this morning, again no problems.
I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel here and am simply running out of ideas. All that I can think to do now is try both the XP-M 2200+ and Athlon 800 CPUs in one of my working nForce2 PCs (which I am reluctant to do cos I'm idle).
    Quote
OK, another update. Got home about quarter to 2 and the second 256MB DIMM had gone through 50 tests without errors so the memory is fine (and is fine with nForce2 mobos as that's what I tested in).
I've used two different keyboard and mouse sets, the wired one on my second PC and the wireless one (which also works conected up to my second PC). No difference, the system is barely getting far enough to even think about keyboard and mouse. Hell it's not even getting far enough to complain about missing memory or graphics card.
I still don't have any real idea as to why the first motherboard 'failed' like it did anyway and the only two components that I can't completely rule out are the CPUs and motherboards. I do have an Athlon XP 2800+ with what appears to be a cracked core (though oddly enough the PC always booted with it installed, it was just highly unstable with lots of memory errors) that I could try if I really felt like it.
I haven't tried the 'cracked' XP 2800+ yet and I'm about to try the ASRock motherboard with the Athlon 800 again.  As I've said in the quotes above, I'm completely dry when it comes to ideas now and am hoping an MSI specific forum might be able to help me more.

  • [nforce] K7N2 Delta, having massive lock-ups / random reboots.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last needed your wisdom. Anyway, a couple of days ago my machine began to randomly reboot on me, so I went about trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've cycled out my PSU, my drives, changed BIOS settings, so on and so forth, and it's still happening. System Specs follow:
    MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
    Athlon 2800+ Processor
    512 x 2 Kingston ValuRAM PC3200
    Generic PSU : 3.3v : 28a, 5v: 30a
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 5950 Ultra 256 MB
Seagate 200GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
    Lite-on DVD/CDRW Combo burner
Any ideas? I've been dismantling this thing and rebuilding it over and over for about a week now, and nothing has changed. I get the reboots all the time, graphic-intensive and not. I've even had the machine freeze up in the BIOS menu before. Help me please!!!

and i'm sure it is my Ram, and i also use 2x512mb Kingston Value pc3200
i have tried  with 2x512mb crucial pc3200 from my other pc and then there is no problem...

  • K7N2 Delta - L & memory config

I searched the forum for this and didn't find the answer. Since it's a generic question I'm hoping I don't have to list all the specs.
    K7N2 Delta L w/ BIOS 6570v56 installed
Currently running 2 sticks Crucial 3200 400 DDR 256mb cas 2.5 dimm slot 1 and slot 3 - dual channel
Just purchased a new stick of Crucial 3200 400 DDR 512mb cas 2.5
Where should this stick be installed for best performance?
Will I lose dual channel if all 3 slots are used?
If I lose dual channel, which set up is better:
Dual channel w 512mb total ram
    OR
No dual channel w/ 1gb total ram
    Thanks

from what i heard you can have 3 stick all of the same size and use dual channel.
but 512mb would run in single channel but have not got a confirmation it really works,.

  • [nForce] K7N2 delta-l + Corsair 2*256 3200c2 = cl2.5 ?????

    Hi!
My english is not perfect  .
I have a problem, could anyone help me please?
    I have a mobo: k7n2 delta-l, and a bought 2 pairs of Corsair 256 3200c2 ram, whis came with cl2.
But CL2 don't work in my mobo. CL2.5 works.
My friend told me, i have to set ddram voltage to 2.8, but my mobo's highest value is 2.7 .
What should i set in bios?
    Any ideas? THX.

There isn't any freezes @ 200 MHz. I tried it with prime95, before i bought the 2 Corsair Rams with two 333mhz rams. And by CL2,5 ( with Corsairs ) there isn't any freezes too.
My friend told me, ( he had Corsairs  in Abit NF7 (nforce2) and he had no problems with 5-3-3-2 @ 2,8V ), i have to set the memory voltage to 2,8V. But my mobo's max. voltage is 2,7.
Is there a big difference between 6-3-3-2 and 6-3-3-2,5 ?

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta 2 LSR boot/power up issues

I installed the K7N2 Delta LSR mb with an Athlon XP socket A 3000+ cpu.  The computer turns on but won't boot.  Nothing appears on the monitor screen and there are no beeps.  The harddrive spins, the board has power but nothing happens. When I put my old mother board back (MSI K7T Pro266A) in with the Athlon 2000+, everything works fine.
    Maxtor 60 gb harddrive
512 MB SD pc2100 SD Ram
Abit 128 mb Radeon 9200SE Video card
    Any suggestions?

    A few things to check:
Do you have any unused stand offs in the case touching the motherboard
The XP3000 CPU is a barton core and comes in two variants, a 333FSB and a 400FSB version.  Your RAM is PC2100 which with an Nforce chipset is a recipie for problems. The NForce chipset is picky about RAM and PC2100 running on a PC2700/PC3200 processor FSB probably won't work.
Also post your PSU max amps, as a +12V rail below 16A could cause problems.
Do you have a D-Bracket connected ?  This is the PCI insert with 4 leds on ?

I have this motherboard (K7N2 Delta 2 LSR)  and a friend build my computer and put 2 hard drives(one master and one slave) and 2 optical drive on the same ribbon connect to IDE 1. i was wonder should change this. maybe use the IDE 2. if so what should i put there and how do i do this without destroying my computer. Should i change some with the BIOS or CMOS.
Please explain you would to a non tech person(because i'm)

    Hi, welcome to the fourm.
In general your system will work best with the two HDD's as master and slave ono IDE1 and the opticals on IDE2 (burner as master if you have a burner).  Make sure the jumpers on all four drives are set correctly to their positions.  Then when you start up, go into BIOS and see if all four drives are correctly identified.  No need to clear CMOS.  Good luck.

IS MY COMPUTER OUT OF DATE?(MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR) (hint: look at my signature),  and if it is can someone make me a good list of things to get to make a new GOOD custom computer? motherboard etc,,, for a gaming pc under 500 US dollars?

Outdated for what? What pushes you for an update? Your system will work fine for most things for a couple of years still. I'd remove that extra 128 MB stick though.
The newest games is relying heavily on the graphics card. I don't know that processor, but that will cope with today's games for sure.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta ILSR - Do i have to have raid with sata drive

    Hi guys,
Probably a really stupid question, but here goes
My machine has 1 ide HDD and 1 SATA HDD.
The SATA drive is set up as raid0 and is purely used as a data disk. The OS(win xp pro sp1) is on the IDE drive
The only way i could get the SATA HDD recognised by windows, was to set up a raid array with just the 1 disk.
Pretty useless raid array i know.
Did i have to do this or is there a way to have the sata hdd usable without having to set up a raid array
    Thanks

you have to do it for the controller to work
but it has no effect on the drive
you can move a regular drive on ide 3 back to a normal ide and its all fine

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta Upgrade Possibilities

I think I fried the AGP slot on my K7N2 Delta-L mobo and was looking to upgrade to a new board, perhaps the Delta 2 Platinum.  Would there be any conflicts with using my old peripherals/modules from the old mobo if I upgraded?  Here is what I currently have installed:
    Athlon XP 2700+ 333FSB
    Nvidia 6600
    2X 512 Corsair XMS2700 CL2
    Soundblaster Live Platinum w/LiveDrive
Oh and if you can think of any way of troubleshooting my old board that would definitely be appreciated.  (Swapped out video cards and still no signal going to the monitor.  Swapped monitor and cables as well and still no picture.)

There were a couple things that were awry.  I was going to swap a fan in my case and it was daisey-chained off the supply that also went to my video card.  I am almost positive that my PC was unplugged when doing this.  I unplugged the fan and then booted back up.  Windows came up but all of the graphics were a shade of blue.  I quickly shut down and checked everything and it appeared that my VGA line was not secured properly(I had recently moved my PC).  Resecured it and replug the fan and received no signal to the monitor.  I swapped out my video card with my old one and still no signal.  Attached my PC to a different monitor and cable and again no signal.
Any ideas?  I will check the d-bracket when I get home from work today and see if it is reporting anything unusual.
