[nForce] k7n2 delta2 shut down

When I try to shut the computer off, windows shut down option, all it will do is reset the computer.

The onboard lan is disabled. If I shut the pc off with the rocker switch on the psu, I have to wait a few minutes before it will startup again.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 Platinum will not boot up

i have a new K7N2 Delta2 Platinum, a new computer case,  and just looking to transfer my old hard drive that was on my old mobo to this new mobo and computer case. I am running XP pro w/sp2. i have installed a new dvd burner and a new cd burner. these items where not previously connected to old pc.  I have a MSI-FX5500 video card installed as well. now keep in mind that i already have my old hard drive with XP pro on it, when i go connect all the devices and power on the pc, i am able to go into the bios, it recognizes my 2gigs of corsair memory, my hard drive is recognized, both my cdr/w and my dvdr/w drives are recognized, however, when it starts to load XP from my hard drive, a very quick blue screen comes and goes and i am unable to read the error message. I was wondering is there anyway to slow down or freeze the screen so that I can read the error message? Also, more information about the setup, since i am unable to load XP pro that i already have on my hard drive, I am unable to install the software drivers for either the motherboard or the video card....... Any point of direction would be greatly appreciated. I have built several computers from the ground up before and this is the first time I have ran into this problem........ thanks

since the hard drive was set up on your old mobo then it'll not work straight off on the new one as the details in the registry will be different. One way around it is to boot up off the xp cd and select to install xp and then when it finds your old install on the drive select repair the old installation and this should sort it and will keep all your data thats saved on there.
Once into windows remember to uninstall ALL the old drivers and install all the new ones or problems will arrise and force you into doing a full fresh install.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 Platinum w/Version B.5 BIOS, trouble with post and XP install.

    I have
    K7N2 Delta2 Platinum
    MS-6570E Version 1.0 motherboard
    AMD Sempron 2600+
    Elixir 500MB PC-3200 DDR (3 sticks, total 1.5GB)
eVga Nvidia MX4000 64MB AGP card
    Maxtor ATA-100 PCI controller
I pulled everything else out of the box. I've tried the B.3, B.4, and B.5 BIOS and set everything to Optimized Defaults. I created a striped RAID Array of 4 WD 80GB drives on the primary and secondary onboard controller. The CD is on the Maxtor controller.
There are some problems I can't figure out.
    1) The mobo identifies the CPU as Athlon XP 1100
    2) The POST hangs just before seeking the IDE drives. I have to hit a key for it to continue.
    3) The LED's on the D bracket have the top right light dark until the key is hit. Something to do with initializing the floppy controller.
    4) The XP install fails to a blue screen just after hitting the F8 key to accept the license. The code is 0x0000007B.
Can someone tell me what these issues have to do with each other and how I can correct them?

    Quote from: dmichael34 on 17-September-05, 22:42:56
The Maxtor controller was removed when you originally suggested to do so. The add on controller is an SIL 680 RAID.
I will try reseating the processor next.
I can also attempt a boot through POST without the array, as this shouldn't affect the boot process.
I did notice that the ctrl-alt-del on the LEFT side of the keyboard doesn't work.
However, the ctrl-alt-del on the RIGHT side of the keyboard does work.
Maybe I've been looking for a serious problem and overlooking the obvious.
I do not see how the CPU temp would cause a pause at boot until "any key" is hit... it sounds more to me like the system has paused to either look for a device or boot a BIOS on a device card.
If I am not mistaken, you are using a RAID card to boot windows? Is this correct?
If that is true it is possible the boot sequence is not set correctly in the BIOS such as "BOOT OTHER DEVICE" ( I cannot remember the exact term in the BIOS)
I am not sure about that but you could try changing the boot sequence so your RAID card is above "HARD DISK" on the list

Dr Stu, I have'nt bought the board yet, I just want to upgrade my kt3 ultra2 in my sig, want to get dual channel memory, 8X AGP and sata to get the most speed out of my XP2700.  I have already bought another 512mb of Crucial Ballistix for the dual channel.  I'm looking for a good socket A board before they go away!  I know I'm pushiing my PS with only 18amps on the 12v side, but it has the xtra 4 pin connector and it's a good quality.  The link Fredrik so kindly provided is what it looks like.  It has been a decent sink for me.  It is 80 X 80 mm @ the aluminum fins.  Actually I had to lap mine to get a shiney surface, it had machine marks on it.  Thanks
P.S. The K7N2 looks like it's feature pack, just wondered if it's a good stable board

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 psted once - now I get nothing on screen

    Hi all:
I've been reading some of the other posts on this topic, but I decided to add mine since it is slightly unique.  A colleague of mine wanted a new system so I recommended him a list of parts on newegg.com, and he ordered it and assembled it himself.  He reported to me that it was able to POST sporadically, but that he was having no consistent success.  I assumed he did something wrong, so I took a look at the system yesterday.
I took everything apart, re-seated the CPU, HSF (applied thermal grease after removing the pad), removed one of the memory modules, reset the CMOS, and then plugged everything back inside the case (AGP, HDD, fans).  The system posted, to my surprise.  Delighted, I started off by looking at setting up the system date when the screen went blank.  I re-started the system and on all subsequent trials, I've not been able to get POST to show...I get nothing.  I've removed the battery, and reset the CMOS with the jumper, but I've had no success.  I disconnected the HDD too.  The system fans do spin but the monitor indicates no signal.
I tried a different video card (the one from PC#1 listed in my signature), and it had no effect on the system.  I put the PC#2 video card in my #1 system and it worked fine.  I have moved the RAM around in the system, with no effect.  I tried 1 stick of my Samsung PC-2700 (again from PC #1), but I had no luck.  The only things I have yet to do is try to run the system out of the box, and also to try running it with the 430w Antec PSU.
What do you guys think, RAM compatibility issues?  Corsair's website would beg to differ, but it seems that a number of people have had some problems with Corsair & MSI K7N2 motherboards.  The RAM sticks were purchased in a dual-channel kit.  Why would the PC POST once last night for about a minute, and not be able to do so again?  I suppose the obvious answer is that something is fried.
Any help or additional suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

DaveR & osnavi had it right on.  The 350W Antec PSU had +12V1/10A, +12V2/15A, -12V/0.3A which is a total of ~15A I believe.  The 430W Antec in my main machine had +12V/20A, -12V/1.0A.  I connected the 430W power supply and I achieved POST without problems.  I've since connected all of the devices, loaded Windows XP and even got the dual channel RAM to work.  Thanks for all the help!  I'll tell my colleague to get a higher grade PSU with at least 12V/18A.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 LSR and XP-M 2600 Help!!!

    Hi,
I'm having trouble just getting this board to run stable at any speed.
The orignal idea was to put this system together from spare parts and use it as a second sytem to learn about OCing, but somehow I ended up buying mostly new parts and I can't even get it set up to run stable at BELOW stock speeds.
    380W Antec Truepower 24A 12v
Kingston HyperX KHX 3500K2/1g (installed in slots 1&3 - middle slot empty)
    Artic Coolling  Copper Lite
    Thermalrigtht  NB-1
    XP Home
The problem is Windows just locks up.  I don't get a BSOD or error messages.
I've tried different ram voltages from 2.5 thru 2.7
I've tried using Patroit XBL 3200 TCCD
    Am I overlooking something obvious?
    Thanks,
    L.J.

    Excellent
    download cpu-z
memory tab tells you actual memory timings
spd tab gives you the manuufacturer's programmed timings
I'm still on bios b3 as it is only one that allows me to change memory timings with DOT disabled.
keep us informed as to your progress
Thanks Dave. I don't know why I didn't remember that.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 B61 Beta Bios

Anyone have try new b61 bios? I have try a B56 bios but it suck  . For my question, it is better than B30 bios? I read it a lot I other forum and they said it great. How about it temperature? It is low like B30?
Sorry for asking to much because my system is still in RMA

I have tried b5, b6.1, b6.0 and b3.  As you can see from my signature b3 works best for me; it is the only one that allows a change to high performance mode (from optimised) withoou enabling DOT and seems more stable than the others; cpu temp was lower as well, although that may be a bug.
If you do an advanced search with my user name and b3 in text you will see many posts.

  • [nForce]: ***Starting your K7N2 Delta2 at default settings***

As some of you will be aware there is no safe mode jumper J10 on the K7N2 Delta2 series of boards. This has been replaced by the "insert" key method as used by Abit and Epox. To start your board at its default settings following an unsuccessful overclocking attempt you need to do the following using a ps2 keyboard. Turn off your machine and disconnect from the mains or turn off the switch on the back of the power supply. Press the front panel power switch several times to discharge any charge remaining in the power supply capacitors. Reconnect the power by plugging into wall socket or turning on psu power switch. Press and hold down "insert" on the keyboard and press the case front panel power switch. If you are successful it should start the cpu and memory at 100Mhz FSB. If it does press "delete" to reenter the bios to change your settings to known safe settings. Good luck.

Great tip labtech. Seems it could save MSI a rash of RMAs to include such advice in the manual. Makes one wonder how much initial testing the MB got.
In the 2 recent cases of not booting after o/c here, still wonder how high the users reached for FSB to trigger the non-booting; ie shooting for the moon or only minor increases (one only tried 200 FSB I think)? Of course, there are the individual sets of gear and skills.
One has to wonder why Newegg is nearly giving away the new Delta2 LSR model for $63US. Same holds true for a host of KT880 MBs. Except for a few toys, seems precious little VIA improvement since the KT333 series.
I'm still hoping to see some Delta2 results from a serious overclocker. I posted for same here in the Overclocking forum, but no bites yet.
Madshrimps review indicates no VDD voltage adj. Wonder if it's hidden in the bios?

  • K7N2 Delta won't shut down...

Ok, I installed a new K7N2 Delta-L and run windows XP. Everything works great. Kudo's to MSI for their excellent instruction manual.
Windows shuts down, but then the thing reboots. I have a 350 watt Codegen psu. I've checked to make sure I don't have the reset or power sw switched around, and I don't. I switched and even reversed them just to make sure.
Is there something in bios to stop this?
Also, in case a moderator reads this post...I used Live Update to make sure I have the latest BIOS, and now do. I'm getting a difference in cpu temp readings...PC Health in the bios reads usually 10c higher than what PC ALert through windows does.
Which is correct? PC ALert 4 usually says cpu is in the low 30's, PC Health reads in the low to mid 40's...

    hi
there is an issue about the system and cpu temp readings.
some bios shows to high some to low.
low to mid 40 is nothing to worry about.
pc alert does show wrong quite often.
    get speedfan instead.
    bye

recently i have flashed the latest bios 1.9 of msi nforce 4 u platinum, everything work fine untill yesterday.some stanges happened......
my power doesnt have a on and off button on it ,every time i turn off the pc , i have to turn off the power button of a socket near by the pc.everytime it works fine, but yesterday when i turn on the power on button of that socket , the pc automatic start, i didint turn on the power button of pc, what a weird problem..   also when i  go into os , the system time also changed, although i can turn them back to correct one in bios and os, but when i turn the pc off , it changed again...   could any one help me out , what is teh real problem of my pc. some virus ?thanks a lot.
weird problem with power shut down  msi nforce 4 platinum

it seems the first question has been solved. cos today when i turn on pc, the oc set up is gone ,in bios, it back to the original set up.i cant save my oc setup, so it definitely a battery problem!!!!!!!!!!!
i take the old battery t o a saler , there they massure it with voltmeter, it shows only 0.97v, but in bios 1.6 it shows 1.82v, so waht is the real meaning of that reading num in bios for battery?it cant be the real voltage of the battery. i buy a new one ,this one is maxcell 2032   hitachi, the old one is shi  t   panansonic 2032 .the new one shows 3.17v with voltmeter, then i come back , installed the  new battery , in bios this time it shows 2.3v in bios 1.6. so the reading num in bios for battery is definitely is not a real reading for your battery.
i will keep my pc in 24/7 using , and i will look if the battery is sable or not , cos untilll now no one come out for a real explain for this  stupid battery problem of msi nofroce 4 platinum.i dont want change battery every 2 or 3month, what a real sick of this!!!!

  • New K7N2 Delta MB shuts down installing Wxp & Wme SOLVED !

OK I'm about to go kick the dog
I have been reading all sorts of stuff on this board and posted a few times in other people threads. Now it is time to start clean with my problem and look for help from the MSI Gods of wisdom
I had a system I built a couple years ago and it was running fine. One day it died. Long story short I ordered a new MSI MB to replace my dead Epox MB.
    1) seems the Epox is a Via chip set and new MSI is nvidia. So Wme was looking for the Via chips and couldn't find them so it kept rebooting the machine. No way to remove the old drivers because I can start it. Loopty loop we go.
    2) to save my data I ended up buying the new Seagate HD at a killer price. I tried to do a clean install of Wxp. I never got too far into the start up and the system does a hard shutdown like someone pulled the power cord out dead. Most people figured my PS was way to weak and after much more reading I think this was true. So just got the new one in today.
    3) new PS is working fine. Still can't load Wxp, still shutting down??
    4) tried loading Wme instead. Same thing, shuts off during the install but this time I got to the screen that said it was 7% installed, yippy !
    5) went to W98. Guess what, nope, it actually installed and I can run it. !!!! Didn't do anything else as I just wanted to prove out the new stuff is working OK. Now I try to do a Wxp update. CRASH !  Wme update, CRASH.  W98 still running OK??
    6) Try to load MSI drivers off the CD to see if that would help. Hmmm, I am told I can't install this software with this version of Windows
    7) So I can run W98 but can't install MSI drivers, can't upgrade to newer version of Windows. Not much of a machine at this point.
    SO:
I have the bare minimum hardware to try and keep it simple. I have the new MSI MB, new PS, new HD, tried from 1 to 3 sticks of Crucial memory cards in every slot and 2 CD drives & floppy. All as shown below in my sig.
    Looking for more ideas ?????
One step away from sending the board back. Not sure if I have a bad board or should I just exchange it for a Via chipset version. Strange that it wont let me install Wme or xp ?????????

    Solved the problem
Might have caused a new one but still.
    I F'd up and made a bad azz-umption:nono:
I took the CPU card into work to clean all the Silver Artic off.
Got home and put it all back in.
    CRASHED still.
Then I noticed the cooling fins were tilted.
Turns out I made the azzumption that the socket was made the same way as on the old MB.
Well they are except the pegs you clip the heatsink to are on the opposite sides.
This meant I had the heatsink cocked on the socket.
Wxp must use a ton more CPU power than W98 or DOS.
The machine ran for a long time that way??
Then I got Wxp to start loading and crashed again
    Forgot the fan plug
But now xp is installed and running as it should. I just have to spend countless hours installing all the software and drivers again.
Wonder how much life is left in the CPU??
Good excuse to buy a faster one !
Thanks so much for all the help.
Just can't help people from themselves sometimes.

  • [nForce] has somebody MSI K7N2 Delta2-FSR + barton mobile

I wanted to know if there is a possibility of changing cpu ratio because msi kt4av did't see this cpu as mobile. on epox 8rda3+,8rda3+pro, and abit everything is ok. Has there somebody such mainboard with this cpu? Does mainboard seethis cpu correctly? And does somebody know if how to change the cpu ratio in barton mobile's bios.i wanna buy  MSI K7N2 Delta2-FSR

    Frequency/Voltage Control in BIOS
    "CPU FSB Clock"
    "CPU Ratio" (multiplier)
    that is from KT4AV manual
mobile CPUs aren't properly identified on most boards, but that is merely a "cosmetic touch"

  • MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum + Corsair mem = hell

Alright, Last christmas I got an MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum Mobo. I had an AMD Athlon XP 3000+
w/333mhz FSB. I was using cheapo generic ram which worked, but had horrible performance.
    So I bought the TWINX1024-3200XL, Corsair 1GB(2x512) PC3200 400mhz DDR-Ram.
So........when I set that up, I got HUGE instability problems. While playing Half-Life 2, the game
would randomly go BSOD, which I didn't get with the cheapo ram. So I went into the options and
I changed the bios settings from By SPD (which set it to 200mhz fsb) to Auto (which changed it
to 166mhz after detecting my 166mhz fsb cpu), at which point the instability ended. But every
time I tried to run it at 400mhz, tons of crashing and BSODs in HL2 as well as windows. So I've
been using it at 333mhz for the past 6 or so months without any problems, aside from the fact
that I can't run my $300 ram at stock speed.
After reading some threads here and at other forums, I learned that apparently my
motherboard doesn't allow the cpu/ram to run async. Which would make some degree of
sense, since when they ran sync, both at 333mhz, I encountered no crashing. However, I just
bought an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ w/400mhz fsb and I was hoping that the problems would be
over. Alas, no. With the bios set to By SPD at 400mhz, Half-Life 2 (which is what I use to test
system stability, since Memtest 86, Prime 95, etc. All ran through all the tests and for over 24
hours without a single error, then the second I play HL2, it crashes) crashes within 1 minute.  So
I angrily restart and change the bios settings, this time I set it to Auto, which is also 400mhz now due to the 400mhz fsb CPU. I was actually able to play Half-Life 2 flawlessly for about 45 minutes, I made it past the driving phase on the buggy, shot down the chopper, then I eliminated all resistance near the crane. Unfortunately, once everything was dead silent and I pressed R to reload, BSOD. >=|
Is my motherboard a piece of crap that doesn't support the ram, or is the ram bad? Has anybody else been able to run these two (MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum + Corsair PC3200 Performance Ram) together with perfect stability? Please help! I'm going nuts. =*|
    Many Thanks!

well, for the errors. In half-life 2, after however much playtime, the screen will just randomly go blue, without any official windows message or error code, forcing me to manually restart with the reset button. It's done this for the most part. Other times, when I change the settings, the game will just boot me back to the desktop, giving me a visual basic runtime error. Oddly enough, when I set the ram to 166mhz fsb, the game is totally stable. I've also just updated to the newest bios 11.50 and tried all of the previous settings as well as the "optimized defaults" and "fail-safe defaults" all still result in the crashing.
Yeah, I've tested other games. The results were mixed though. certain games like Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 would lockup, other games like command and conquer generals seemed to mostly be stable, with a few random crashes. The problem is that I haven't really gotten any true BSODs in games, I just get lockups. However, windows would give BSODs, but they seemed like they were driven by faulty hardware, since it would be random and would go away entirely once I underclocked the ram.
Other times in the past when I've run the ram at 200mhz fsb, windows would randomly crash when I was browsing the web. In those cases it would give me a stop message and an error number. But I haven't gotten then so far today. I can't remember what all the errors were, but there were about 2-3 random crashes related to ntfs.sys and other system files. So at first, I thought maybe it was just a windows problem, but I had just freshly formatted and reinstalled windows, so it seemed unlikely. And of course, the second I changed it back to 166mhz fsb, I was able to keep my computer on for a week, playing half-life 2, doom 3, command and conquer generals, as well as tons of other games and general web browsing without a single incident. So the problem, although highly vague, seems to be related directly to the ram, if just by the fsb change.
I dunno, these are really really odd problems, never encountered these before in like 6 years of tweaking my comps, so I'm guessing that it's either just an incompatibility with my motherboard/ram (in which case I'm screwed), my mobo is broken, or my ram is broken. I think my only real option left, now that I've bought a new $130 cpu to match the ram is to RMA the ram and hope that it somehow works. But the fact that it's been able to pass prime95 and memtest86 flawlessly makes me concerned as to whether or not corsair will be able to diagnose a problem, if there is one, with the ram if I do RMA it. sigh.
I'm not sure if my video card is underpowered, since I have a 550watt psu and the radeon 9800 isn't too much of a hog. But I think I may RMA that as well. damn, I dunno.
    *update*
Correction, it seems that now I have a 200mhz fsb cpu, setting the ram to 6:5 for 166mhz causes windows to almost immediately lock up. I'm guessing that's part of the whole unable to run the cpu/ram async thing.
Also, when I tried changing the latency to 2.5 and 3.0, I got the following error:
    Many thanks!
