[nForce] K7N2 - MS6570 - Maximum HD 160gb??

I am trying to help someone with a query they have. They are looking to buy a 250/300gb for some extra space, but according to the products general faq the maximum HD size is 160gb.
Someone has told me that its possible to split the drive into 2 partitions, so that each partition falls under the 160gb size limit. Is this true, or is 160 really the total size??
Many thanks for any advice

Earlier versions of windows imposed limits on the size of the hard drive due to the file structure (FAT32).  XP uses NTFS and with SP1 it has removed any limit on the size of the HD.
XP can recognize and use a FAT32 file system on a HD but Windows 98 (uses FAT32) can't recognize a NTFS file system on a HD.
The 250gig can be installed and used as a slave only with XP if you use it on a single partition.  It has to be partitioned and formatted with FAT32 when used with a FAT32 based OS.
great. thanks very much for all your advice

  • K7N2 MS6570 Video Controller- driver not found

    Hello All,
After a clean install of W2K all of a sudden the Video Card and my Intel V.92 Modem weren't being detected.  I got the modem to install by going into device manager and deleting the yellow question mark for PCI Simple  Communications Controller but no matter what I have tried I still get a yellow question mark for Video Controller (VGA Compatible) in device manager.  The driver can't be found on the Mobo Disk, in W2K sp4, Video card driver disk.  All say not found or no such driver.  Also the video card is showing up on POST but after that, nothing, no where is it being detected.
I have taken out and reseated the video card, cleared the CMOS, been into BIOS to check that ESCD was set to Auto, booted into Safe Mode and tried to get it detected from there, nothing has worked.  Specs for the system are:
    AMD Barton 2800+
    512 MB DDR 333 PC 2700 RAM
PNY Gforce FX 5200 128 MB
    CDR/RW
    Lite On DVD ROM
    K7N2 MS6570 Mobo
    W2K SP4
    500 watt PSU
The reason I say I think something has really gone wrong is that prior to the reinstall of W2K everything was working just fine, better than I ever expected it to work.  No hardware was put in or taken out, the system wasn't even opened up for anything, just a clean reinstall of W2K.  If anyone has any suggestions at all I would really appreciate it, I'm about at my wits end here.
    Thanks very much,  LG;)

    Hi,
Have you DirectX installed? - If not download and install it. Also, have you tried installing latest video card drivers - from either your Video card manufacturer or nVidia's website?
Sometimes it's better to run the driver's auto-install program, rather than allowing Windows to look for the driver itself - AFAIK, the install procedure unpacks all it's files to hard drive then accesses this directory in order to install the drivers (this is the case with ATI software, anyway.) I suspect your drivers on CD are packed - this is why Windows can't find them.

  • K7N2 (MS6570) m/board errors

I bought motherboard 5 months ago and running fine for current specs until today, it suddently hang without notice and refuce to boot. But sometimes when i can boot successful, it will :-
    1. Hang during windows booting (blank screen); or
    2. Immediately after windows success loading (hang up); or
    3. When i play vcd (monitor shutdown, pc still on).
Even i have reinstall windows xp, still the same.
If it happen to boot failed during pc startup, the LED show 1-Red, 2-Red, 3-Red, 4-Green (testing cpu clock & vga) and i can heard siren.
I tried to change agp, but still same errors.
Could anybody can help me? Is this a hardware or software problem and how to solve?
    My pc specs:
    MSI K7N2 (MS6570) with agp build-in
    2 x Kingston value DDR333 512MB
    1 x Seagate Baracuda IV (60GB)
    1 x Quantum Fireball lct10 (15GB)
    1 x Sony 16x DVD Rom
    1 x Sony 4x CDRW
    1 x Asus GeForce4 440MX SE 64MB
    Power Supply 400watt
    Temperature between 37c-47c
    Thank you.

I have try to switch the ram but no help. Still hang.
Then i found that my processor's fan was not functioning, after changing the fan, i still cannot boot the pc.
So i used Duron 800 to test, now i can boot to the windows, and it can run for 2 hours, then hang again.
What is wrong? Is that too hot? Or both my m/board and cpu already melt because the fan malfunction yesterday?

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
[nForce] K7N2 D2-FSR cant get in window after manual setting

I'm a bit of a noob at o/c so not sure I can give you sound advice.
pci is unlocked I think, though if use core centre then you can control it-I'm not using corecentre.
are you using priority 10 for prime 95 and In-place FFT's torture test?  I believe that is most demanding.  If you getting reboots then you're overclock is not stable, need to lower fsb and retest.  Your psu is probably marginal as well so maybe that isn't quite strong enough to be pushed further.  Can you try beefier one?
I don't know how far you can push vcore up; maybe one of our resident experts can advice.
I started out on this journey with exact problem you faced; I couldn't change High Performance mode from optimised to manual.  I still haven't found a solution unless I enable DOT.  I've tried bios b5, b6.1 and now trying b6.0, without success.  O/S fails to load.  Did you say b3  allowed you do to that and increase fsb in bios or was it change of memory?  I'm thinking my expensive ram is not very flexible and doesn't suit the nforce 2 chipset.  At moment with bios b60, high performance manual,  memory to manual (2-2-2-11) and DOT enabled-private I passed memtest overnight.  I'll try prime95 tonight if I have no issues tday.

  • [nForce] k7n2 problem, maybe easy fix...

Hey, I read through a lot of the previous posts and guides and can't find anything about this really. I have the k7n2-l  I think. It's a k7n2 for sure. Anyway, I did a fresh install of XP and it didn't do the onboard sound or LAN. Also, the smbus and ide drivers weren't installed. So I just went to nvdia and got the newest ones. Well... this made the computer lock up whenever it got to the desktop, usually halfway through the startup sound. So I got a NIC installed that I just had laying around, and now I have internet. I installed each thing individually, and then got the realtek audio working. Everything's fine now. All is installed. HOWEVER.... I can run fine for hours, my temp. is fine, I completely cleaned and re-greased my chip heatsink/fan, my ram is good, and I have a 450w p/s and new videocard. So that's all good. My problem is that when I try to install any kind of big thing ( games, photoshop, etc. ) it locks up completely. No screens of death, just frozen. I can install basic stuff like winamp, diskeeper, but nothing bigger than that. It gets halfway through the installation and dies. And I can RUN anything that does install. I don't get it. It seems like heat, but the temp. is always fine before and afer lockups. Any suggestions?
Oh, and I have a amd 1.4 ghz athlon I believe. Crucial ram, xfx 6600gt, seagate 160gb.

    nVidia Drivers
after you install Windows, the first thing you need to install is the Nforce Unified Drivers - this will install everything that is onboard: chipset, sound, LAN etc. you can optionally choose not to install the Nvidia IDE SW drivers (i personally have never had any probs with them)
once installed, restart your PC, and you may continue to install any other hardware you have, starting with the Forceware display drivers (also from above link) for your 6600gt
if you continue to encounter problems, you may have a PSU problem, or your memory might be liked by the nforce memory controller. Memtest86 will find any probs

  • MSI K7N2 ILSR - Maximum HDD size

Can anyone please tell me what the maximum hard disk size that a MSI K7N2 can use. It currently has a Seagate 500Gb drive and I want to add a Seagate 750Gb. Will it work okay ie be able to see and use the full capacity of the drive?
    Many thanks for your help.

    should do
may need jumpering to sata 1 as the controllers old
i would make sure it has jumpers...check their website
    as some drives need software
    to lower to sata 1
and you then need another pc which can see them to run it

  • K7N2-L maximum CPU support?

Apologies if this has already been answered somewhere.  I just wanted to doubly confirm what the main site says about this mobo.
I've a K7N2-L mobo with the latest BIOS.  Am I right in that it will support CPUs over and above 3000mhz as well as PC3200 DDR ram?  Right now I have a 2000mhz CPU with PC2100 ram and would rather just upgrade the CPU and RAM rather than fork out for a new mobo as well.

It boils down to the choice of a new PC entirely or just getting the best CPU/RAM I can for this mobo.  I don't really OC my machine too much anyway so I'd rather just go for the maximum CPU possible.
If I can put a 3000mhz and some PC3200 RAM in there, I'll be quite happy.  Then it's just a matter of waiting for the graphics cards to drop in price a little and I'll be able to happily play the Half-Life 2s and Doom3's of the coming months

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta 2 LSR boot/power up issues

I installed the K7N2 Delta LSR mb with an Athlon XP socket A 3000+ cpu.  The computer turns on but won't boot.  Nothing appears on the monitor screen and there are no beeps.  The harddrive spins, the board has power but nothing happens. When I put my old mother board back (MSI K7T Pro266A) in with the Athlon 2000+, everything works fine.
    Maxtor 60 gb harddrive
512 MB SD pc2100 SD Ram
Abit 128 mb Radeon 9200SE Video card
    Any suggestions?

    A few things to check:
Do you have any unused stand offs in the case touching the motherboard
The XP3000 CPU is a barton core and comes in two variants, a 333FSB and a 400FSB version.  Your RAM is PC2100 which with an Nforce chipset is a recipie for problems. The NForce chipset is picky about RAM and PC2100 running on a PC2700/PC3200 processor FSB probably won't work.
Also post your PSU max amps, as a +12V rail below 16A could cause problems.
Do you have a D-Bracket connected ?  This is the PCI insert with 4 leds on ?

  • [nforce] K7N2 Delta, having massive lock-ups / random reboots.

Hi all, it's been a while since I last needed your wisdom. Anyway, a couple of days ago my machine began to randomly reboot on me, so I went about trying to figure out what is causing the problem. I've cycled out my PSU, my drives, changed BIOS settings, so on and so forth, and it's still happening. System Specs follow:
    MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
    Athlon 2800+ Processor
    512 x 2 Kingston ValuRAM PC3200
    Generic PSU : 3.3v : 28a, 5v: 30a
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 5950 Ultra 256 MB
Seagate 200GB 7200 RPM Hard drive
    Lite-on DVD/CDRW Combo burner
Any ideas? I've been dismantling this thing and rebuilding it over and over for about a week now, and nothing has changed. I get the reboots all the time, graphic-intensive and not. I've even had the machine freeze up in the BIOS menu before. Help me please!!!

    Hi there..
I'm not sure if you have fixed the problem or not.....but i have the same board and my pc reboot maybe one or two times a day...
and i'm sure it is my Ram, and i also use 2x512mb Kingston Value pc3200
i have tried  with 2x512mb crucial pc3200 from my other pc and then there is no problem...

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 Platinum will not boot up

i have a new K7N2 Delta2 Platinum, a new computer case,  and just looking to transfer my old hard drive that was on my old mobo to this new mobo and computer case. I am running XP pro w/sp2. i have installed a new dvd burner and a new cd burner. these items where not previously connected to old pc.  I have a MSI-FX5500 video card installed as well. now keep in mind that i already have my old hard drive with XP pro on it, when i go connect all the devices and power on the pc, i am able to go into the bios, it recognizes my 2gigs of corsair memory, my hard drive is recognized, both my cdr/w and my dvdr/w drives are recognized, however, when it starts to load XP from my hard drive, a very quick blue screen comes and goes and i am unable to read the error message. I was wondering is there anyway to slow down or freeze the screen so that I can read the error message? Also, more information about the setup, since i am unable to load XP pro that i already have on my hard drive, I am unable to install the software drivers for either the motherboard or the video card....... Any point of direction would be greatly appreciated. I have built several computers from the ground up before and this is the first time I have ran into this problem........ thanks
    MSI K7N2 Delta2 Platinum
Athlon XP 3200+  (400 MHZ FSB)
    2x512 PC3200 corsair memory, 1gig pc3200 corsair memory = 2gigs of memory
Western Digital 8MB Cache 120 GB
    ePOWER EP-520XP-C1B 520Watts Power Supply
    +3.3V@26A,+5V@52A,+12V@28A,-12V@1A,[email protected],[email protected]
MSI Geforce FX5500 FX5500-TD256 Video Card
    Asus dvd burner
    Asus cdr/w drive
    Windows XP Pro SP2

since the hard drive was set up on your old mobo then it'll not work straight off on the new one as the details in the registry will be different. One way around it is to boot up off the xp cd and select to install xp and then when it finds your old install on the drive select repair the old installation and this should sort it and will keep all your data thats saved on there.
Once into windows remember to uninstall ALL the old drivers and install all the new ones or problems will arrise and force you into doing a full fresh install.

  • [nForce] K7N2 Delta2 Platinum w/Version B.5 BIOS, trouble with post and XP install.

    I have
    K7N2 Delta2 Platinum
    MS-6570E Version 1.0 motherboard
    AMD Sempron 2600+
    Elixir 500MB PC-3200 DDR (3 sticks, total 1.5GB)
eVga Nvidia MX4000 64MB AGP card
    Maxtor ATA-100 PCI controller
I pulled everything else out of the box. I've tried the B.3, B.4, and B.5 BIOS and set everything to Optimized Defaults. I created a striped RAID Array of 4 WD 80GB drives on the primary and secondary onboard controller. The CD is on the Maxtor controller.
There are some problems I can't figure out.
    1) The mobo identifies the CPU as Athlon XP 1100
    2) The POST hangs just before seeking the IDE drives. I have to hit a key for it to continue.
    3) The LED's on the D bracket have the top right light dark until the key is hit. Something to do with initializing the floppy controller.
    4) The XP install fails to a blue screen just after hitting the F8 key to accept the license. The code is 0x0000007B.
Can someone tell me what these issues have to do with each other and how I can correct them?

    Quote from: dmichael34 on 17-September-05, 22:42:56
The Maxtor controller was removed when you originally suggested to do so. The add on controller is an SIL 680 RAID.
I will try reseating the processor next.
I can also attempt a boot through POST without the array, as this shouldn't affect the boot process.
I did notice that the ctrl-alt-del on the LEFT side of the keyboard doesn't work.
However, the ctrl-alt-del on the RIGHT side of the keyboard does work.
Maybe I've been looking for a serious problem and overlooking the obvious.
I do not see how the CPU temp would cause a pause at boot until "any key" is hit... it sounds more to me like the system has paused to either look for a device or boot a BIOS on a device card.
If I am not mistaken, you are using a RAID card to boot windows? Is this correct?
If that is true it is possible the boot sequence is not set correctly in the BIOS such as "BOOT OTHER DEVICE" ( I cannot remember the exact term in the BIOS)
I am not sure about that but you could try changing the boot sequence so your RAID card is above "HARD DISK" on the list

  • K7n2 ms6570 tbred 2400+ o/c issues

    Here is my set up:

    athlon xp 2400+ (Tbred)
    2 CD burners
    8 case fans

    1 floppy drive
    1x 256 (400mhz) ram
    1x 512 (333mhz) ram dual channel
    350 watt psu
Im not sure if my cpu is unlocked or not, but in my bios, I can see multipliers from 6 to 13.  I know for sure my cpu is default at 15, but I cant see it in my bios.  I cant seem to get my system to boot properly when I choose any of the lower multiplyers.  I set my mem to 1:1 and high performance.  It seems I am doing everything right, but the only way I can seem to overclock is by upping the fsb and leaving the multiplyer at stock 15.  I have done the wire trick, but I still cant lower the multiplier.  Could this be a power supply issue?  Any suggestions?

Ok, I think my cpu is newer than 39 weeks.  Does this mean the wire trick doesnt work?  Does this mean, I have to paint the bridges or is it just locked and theres nothing I can do about it?  Can someone give me a link to what im supposed to do to unlock it?

  • [nForce] K7N2 board and Soundblaster PCI 128 soundcard

I am running w2k with all uptodate service packs. I have an MSI K7N2 motherboard with uptodate drivers (downloaded today!) and having problems with a Creative PCI 128 soundcard. The gameport controller will not work as in Device Manager it says it can't find enough resources. I have swapped PCI slots, removed all other PCI devices and tried to change the resource configuration in Device Manger but was unsuccessful. I can't see any other devices conflicting with the soundcard and nothing shows in System Information as using the same resource as the soundcard. Anyone any ideas?
