[nForce] K7N2GM2-LSR SPDIF CONNECTIONS

Hi all.
On my K7N board it has a three pin connection for SPDIF out. But I've been given a bracket that has the 11 pin connection.
Does anyone have anything that tells me what each wire is on the 11 pin connection? The 3 pins on mb are VCCS, SPDIF0 and GND.
hope this makes sense:-)

Hello, I have the K7N2GM2-ILSR MB and bought a 3-pin bracket with coax and optial from census pcs, but I can only get the coax working, the optical seems to produce "no signal" on my amp. I have checked the connector and the light is coming from it but no sound is being sent.
Also the coax is producing weird sounds like popping and crackling is this due to a faulty cable or is it the H/W at fault?
The drivers that I am using are 5.10.0.5760 and I have also tried 5.10.0.5790 from realtek with no joy. This is really annoying as I can't understand why coax would work and optical doesn't, I have also tried putting the optical through my mini disk player to see it it isn't my amp but this still displays "no signal" am I missing something?
Plz Help
Yes, unfortunately you are missing something. You have not read the rules on hijacking someone elses post. Please start your own post on this matter and I'm sure you will get more responses.

  • [nForce] K7N2GM2-LSR: No CDrom in BIOS?

Just put this new board plus a Sempron 2600 with top-notch PS into a box.  Booted fine, doing a memtest now.
But I can't get the LG4163B detected on Ch 1 as master.  The jumper is set for master on the LG, the connection is at the end of the cable, BIOS is set to auto, but it won't detect it.
I note the BIOS is v3.3 which is not listed at MSI's site at all, only the v3.2.  Could this be the problem?  Anyone had this before?
PS.  The Sempron 2600 requires a 166 bus, eh?
    Thanks

FWIW, my post was correct.  Channel 0 is populated only with an 80 gig WD drive as master.  The drive itself is jumpered as CS and, in any case, showed up in the BIOS correctly, and worked.
Anyway, to update you, I tried everything ... substitute cables, use 40 and 80 wire cables, change the power connectors, put the LG CDROM/DVD Writer onto Channel 1 as slave (change jumper), put it onto Channel 0 as slave, and all that.  Nada would get it detected in BIOS.
Finally I pulled the battery for a half-hour, then powered up and the drive mysteriously was reported.  Whatever it takes, I guess.  My inclination after this is to make pulling the battery SOP in any install, even though it was a brand-new board (not reconditioned or a re-sell).
So one final question.  I have an ATI AGP card (8500LE) that I may want to use, instead of the integrated graphics on the K7N2GM2-LSR.  Should I avoid installing the NV Gart drivers in that situation?  OSs will be Win98se and W2K (dual boot).
BTW, I can definitely confirm that the NV SW IDE drivers suck big-time in W2Ksp4.  Failed all over the place, hangs, etc.  Went back to the standard MS ones.
    TIA.

Cannot get an ip address with onboard NIC or A pci nic that I tried too.
Same prob connected directly to dsl modem or through wireless router.
New computer, just installed xp with no prob. SP2 installed
    known problem?
Wondering wether I need to swap it out for a different board or the same one?

Hey guys thanks for the replies.
I should of known to post more specs. Not really new here, been on a few times in the past with a diff Alias, just can't remember it.......lol.
I just built out this computer, as I do often, my job.
300 watt ps, 512mb ddr, you know the mb, sempron 2500.
It's running the lastest Nvidia/Msi drivers. No problems under device manager. All drivers are ok. Ipconfig shows that it's using a default IP, not DHCP. If I release the ip and then renew it will time out looking for new DHCP IP. Nic shows it's connected to the router with 100mb connection. Tried to manually configure the IP, gateway...etc, but does the same thing. Ipconfig will show the correct settings with a manual config, but no connectivity. Never really seen a problem like this. The thrid party pci nic I tried too does the exact same thing.
Being that this doesn't seem to be a known issue, I think I'll swap it out with my distruibutor and hopefully that will work.

  • SPDIF bracket on K7N2GM2-LSR

I have a K7N2GM2-LSR mobo in my HTPC. There is a JSP1 connector on the mobo which connects to SPDIF Out bracket, but unfortunatelly, the bracket was not included in the bundle.
Now, I have 2 choices to use SPDIF Out:
    1) Get the SPDIF Out bracket. Does anyone know where I can buy it? The bracket I need is NOT the famous "S-Bracket". It is simply called "SPDIF bracket".
    2) Make the bracket myself. As far as soldering and electronics go, I have some experience, but I have never worked with SPDIF.
There are 3 SPDIF pins on the motherboard connector: VCC, SPDIFO, GRND.
I assume that SPDIFO is the data-out connector and connects to inner part of the jack. GRND is ground and connects to outer part of the jack. VCC is 5V power connector, but I am not sure what to do with it, because I can connect only 2 wires to a single SPDIF plug. Above are only my assumptions, I may be wrong.
If there is anyone experienced in SPDIF area, please share...
    Thanks in advance,
    Piiooo

Just recently put together a PC using this mobo.  found the SPDIF bracket at www.censuspc.com.  link below:

it came USPS in a few days to central US.
I haven't been able to get any audio through the optical port yet.  Audio through the RCA jack works fine for me.

  • Spdif connection

spdif connection to 3 pin header (KM2M)
I can't find a back plane fitting for this. The manual shows a connection for two of the three pins only (VCC & SPDIF (pin 3 nc)). I want to assume that one of the connections is a ground as I can make a back panel connector with a grounded RCA jack but I can't find a specification anywhere. Does anybody know the actual specification?

Nothing to do with overclocking or modding.
The S-bracket comes with my 875 Neo-Fis2R mobo as standard.  What I want to know is whether there should be any 'red' light at the end of the optical cable when the optical cable is plugged into the S-bracket (and of course the S-bracket is connected to the mobo).  I remembered that it should be this way but currently, there is no 'red' light for my case and even though I had managed to get a replacement S-bracket, still same problem.  I had tried with another optical cable which was confirmed good (from my Hifi amplifier) but also no 'red' light when plugged into the S-bracket.

  • K7N2GM2-LSR Hangs at detecting drives sometimes

I have just put this system together and 1 out of every 4 times is boots it hangs while detecting the drives. Most of the time it is at the point of the hard drive. When it does boot the system works fine and is completly stable. I believe it has to with the system posting to fast for the drive to be ready, however I do not see a way to delay it in the BIOS like on some systems. I am using the latest BIOS 3.4. The system is as follows.
    MSI K7N2GM2-LSR Mainboard
    Pioneer DVR-108 DVD-RW (Primary master)
WD 80 GB SATA Hard Drive (Primary master)
    Thanks.

I didn't even see the 'SATA'.  As soon as I seen thread subject, WD and Primary Master that was it for me

I just got this board "K7N2GM2-LSR" there is no cpu multiplier in the bios, seems to be locked at 6x. Kinda dissapointed wanted to overclock the Athlon XP 2400+ mobile I just got. With fsb set to 133 boots up as "Athlon XP mobile" 800MHz. The best I could do was 1200 MHz @ 200fsb which boots as "unknown processor". I would appreciate any input, also if anyone knows of a micro atx board with a cpu multiplier please post, I havn't been able to find one.

Well tried this software kinda kool , gives good information about the system but couldn't figure out how to use it to overclock (no instructions). Anyhow it was worth a try. I would rather OC in the bios, but that isn't going to happen with this board, at least not with this bios. Ordered XP 3200+ 400MHz this morning $115 wish I did this to begin with. I'm still stuck with the XP-M 2400+ cpu so any info on matx mobo w/multiplier would still be appreciated. Hope this info helps anyone who who is thinking about using a matx mobo to OC I don't think one exists.         "thanks anyhow"

  • K7N2GM2-LSR

Ok. Here is the Situation.  This is on my Buddys Computer.
He recently had some problems..  The computer would not start.  He would unplug the power and plug it back in.  The Powersupply would spin only.  Harddrive or anything else nothin.
He bought a new powersupply.  Put it in. Plugged it in and Powersupply spins.  Nothing else.
So he purchased the K7N2GM2-lsr to replace his Emachine Mother board.
Places he has researched said it would work.
    It all fit perfect.
Plug it in and nothing.  No Fan spinning nothing.
Tried all the tips.   Removing motherboard and only having the MOBO nothing else on it. Chip Ram All off and still no fan or anything on powersupply.
    Tried other powersupplys
I was thinking that since it was only a 250watt supply, it didnt have enough to power it at all and that is why the powersupply doesnt kick on.???    But then we saw some specs of people with this MOBO using 250 watt supplys.
Could it just be a bad MOBO??

  • K7N2GM2-LSR Install Problems

    Hello,
I am having a terrible time installing a K7N2GM2-LSR motherboard and am hoping someone can make some suggestions or point me in the right direction.  The main problem is video corruption.
    This is my setup:
Brand new K7N2GM2-LSR with MSI BIOS 3.3 (not listed on website, has date of 8/30/2004)
    AMD Athlon XP 2200+ (1800Mhz, 13.5 x 133Mhz)
    NEC 3520 DVD Burner
    Maxtor 80GB Hard Drive
(Brand new Athenatech MicroATX Case A301WG.Q300)
-Tried multiple sticks of memory (listed later in post)
The board boots ok.  I can get into the BIOS (I had to set the correct FSB, maintaining 1:1 ratio with memory, etc).  Initially I was running a CD-ROM bootdisc with Memtest86+ to make sure I was using memory that worked ok.  That program worked fine.  I moved on to running Knoppix 3.7 off of a CD for further testing.  Early in this process Knoppix did boot up and seemed to work ok.
My main problem is trying to install Windows 2000 w/sp4.  Right after loading up all the drivers and it starts the actual true installation process the screen completely corrupts itself and the installation process seems to stop.
    Example picture:
    Larger picture: http://home.dejazzd.com/mfrench/example_image.jpg
This same type of problem also started occuring on Knoppix as soon as it would start loading and installing itself (when the penguin appears on the upper left hand corner of screen)
I have tried 5 different sticks of memory: 1 PQI 128MB 2100 Single-sided stick, 2x Corsair 512MB XMS3200C2 and 2x Corsair 512MBXL3200C2 chips.  I've tried just using one stick of the Corsairs, etc.  The PQI single sided stick seemed to work best in Memtest86+ and knowing the temperment of nforce2 IGP I've primarily been using that.
I have tried 2 different power supplies: The one that came with the Athenatech case I'm using and an Antec True330.
The CPU seems fine.  I know from experience about carefully installing heatsinks and everything seems ok with that.
I thought of maybe the Northbridge chipset was getting hot.  I tried carefully applying better thermal paste (Arctic Silver Ceramique) on the heatsink and making sure it was making good contact with the chip.
I've tried adjusting the BIOS settings, disabling the audio, adjusting the memory settings lower, changing the size of the frame buffer, etc.
Nothing has helped the problem.  I'm tempted to believe the motherboard is bad or it's just something silly.
Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks in advance to anything suggested....

Here are the power readings directly from the BIOS using my Antec True330 power supply:
vcore:      1.64 (right on for this model Athlon XP)
    +3.3:       3.31
    +12.0:     11.91
    +5.0:       4.99
    Battery:   3.08
    +5VSB     5.10
I took the motherboard out, cleaned the northbridge and heatsink and re-applied thermal grease (this time using standard grease similar to what was on there in the first place).  I used the jumper to reset the BIOS settings.  Reinstalled motherboard and ONLY physically attached necessary wires (omitted the Front USB, TV Out card, etc...I am using the CPU 4-prong additional power).
By default my Athlon XP 2200+ is recognized as 1350Mhz (100x13.5).  I left it at that and tried installing Windows 2000 with sp4.  IT INSTALLED FINE.  Everything seemed to be working fine.  I didn't want to change any BIOS settings until I got a true temp reading in Windows of the CPU.
Unfortunately, the MSI Core Center does not support this motherboard.  Motherboard Monitor does not directly support it (it was abandoned before this motherboard was available in the mainstream probably).  I adjusted Motherboard Monitor to read some temp settings from the motherboard.  The temp readings were a little unbelievable.  Initially I was getting a reading of 127 degrees celcius!  It dropped down to 61 degrees almost immediately which is still to high.
(Is it possible MBM was reading a diode showing the Northbridge temp?)
Any suggestions for getting true temp readings while booted into Windows with the K7N2GM2 mobo?
Since I've seemed to eliminate everything else, my next step is to try another CPU.  I have a 1900+ in another machine which I will try tomorrow.

  • Audigy 2 zs spdif connect

OK, so i have the minijack to rca adapter in place, i have all connections connected how they should be, i have the eax set to digital out, but its not sending any signal, AND its still sending to my analog out(aka my headphones). its not sending anything to my reci'ver.

ok, thing is, tech support(contacted earlier) told me "Typically you should be using a Minijack to Coaxial cable" so thats what i have. its a cable similar to a video cable, its what i used on my previous nforce 2 soundcard and i got 5. on that. BUT now i have an athlon 64 with a via chipset and it doesnt do 5.DD on the fly. so i looked for a sound card that could do it with a rca jack.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E68290278 . thats the site, yes it says spdif out, and thats what i used on my nforce 2 as well. BUT the thing is, is that this required a adapter that i had to get. now its hooked up but its not putting out anything to the digital. even after i set it to digital, reset and play music, it still sends it to the analog out. to my headphones in other words. that is what i dont understand, why its still sending to headphones even though its set to send to my reci'ver.

  • Nx8500gt mtd256eh spdif connection

    Hi,
I installed my card today HDMI looks good!!
The problem is with the audio.
I have an Asus M2NPV-VM mobo, it has three pins on the SPDIF socket (+5v, SPDIF_OUT and GRN).
I Connected the red lead to SPDIF_OUT and the black to GRN but didn't get any sound.
Am I connecting the leads properly?
    Hope you can help.

I have also tried reversing the two leads; the red is now on GRN and the black lead is on SPDIF_OUT, but still no joy.
I don't want to experiment with the +5v as it will most likely damage my Graphic Card/Mobo.
I have the sound routed through my HiFi at the moment so I'll persevere with that for now.
Is there anything in the BIOS to enable, the isn't any extra playback devices in the Sound Properties Applet.
    Any clues would be appreciated.

  • Connecting The SBS 580 5.1 System to My SPDIF connection

Just got this new soundsystem for my laptop but i have a problem, my laptop unly has the SPDIF audio out connection and my sound system has 3 different connectors. (Orange-Sub, Black-Rear, Lime-Front)?So i need to convert these three connectors into my SPDIF.Can i get a connector to convert these ?Do i have to get a reviever with all these hookups ?If so, what shuld i get ?Thanks AlotBiles

Hi Biles, Firstly Have you got a free usb port? If so get yourself a "Creative Sound Blaster Live 24bit". Your minimum system requirements need to be....intel PIII or Celeron class 800MHz or faster processor, MicroSoft Windows xp(sp) or 2000(sp4),128mb ram, 340mb hard Disk space, Available USB. port, CD/DVDrom drive required for software installation ,ok so far , this may or maynot cure your problem,but....... I just bought the same system my self finding only half of my speakers were working. Istarted checking on the cheapest remidy "External soundcard" plugs in play you get a cd installation disk for all other needs (sound adjustments, speaker setups ect) but again hope this helps.

  • Audigy 2 ZS spdif connected to reciever only gives bad and lousy sound

I have connected my Audigy 2 ZS to my Pioneer home surround reciever.
I have used a 3.5mm pin to connect a RCA cable to my spdif out on my card and connected this to my coax digital input on my pioneer.
    I have the latest driver
But the sound in my home stereo is only bad, lousy and tubelike.
No extre effects do I use, and everything else (DVD, Pocorn hour and CD player) connected to my pioneer sounds crystal clear and really good, but not the music from my computer. (Tried differend kind of mediaplayers)
So, my question is why is it so? Should I get perfect stereosound from this setup in my home stereo?
Have I done something wrong setting this up?
Very greatful for any help because I have reached the end of the road here...

just use jack->coax cabel but it will be only stereo PCM
