Nforce2 mobo doesn't post

It clears the CPU check, reads the ddr clock as 333 accurately, then stops. The hdd I'm using use to be in my kt3 ultra2 system, but I killed the mobo on accident before I could I reformat the drive or anything.... do you think the via drivers on the hdd are messing up this new system? None of the leds on the floppy, cd or the hdd are even lighting up... I can hear all my fans power up but if my hdd isn't even being accessed, then how could via drivers be causing this problem... I need all the help I can get from these forums! I e-mailed msi support and they replied with a basic list of suggestions for frequent problems to my specific and non listed problem.

  • K8N Neo FSR doesn't post

    Hello all,
I have just finished building a new system, based on the Athlon64 and using the K8N Neo FSR mobo. Of course the system doesn't post, it instead gives out an endless series of beeps, about 3 seconds apart, and the D-Bracket gives me the error code in which only LED #3 is green - meaning "Initialing keyboard controller" which means nothing to me, as the keyboard is hooked up, and I checked re-checked and double re-checked the connection.
So I go about the usual diagnosis tactics, disconnecting device after device until I am left with only the CPU and one module of RAM, and still no post. I tried swapping the PSU (both rated 500w, although only 18a on the 12v+ rail). I also tried a memory module from a working system (a P4 one). I tried resetting the CMOS using the jumper.
One weird sidenote, is that the system did post twice (from over a hundred times) but it didn't get past the system information screen.
I have built several systems in my life, and this is the hardest time I ever had.
If anyone could think of something useful (except buy a new mobo), I would be very grateful.
Full system spec (if it helps, I tried it completely barebones and it made no difference):
CPU - Athlon64 3200+, including generic Heatsinc and Fan
Motherboard - MSI K8N Neo FSR, Award Bios
    Memory - 2x512 Corsair value 400Mhz DDR
Hard Drive- Western Digital Caviar 200Gb S-ATA 150
Graphics Card - PNY Verto Geforce 6800 GT
    PSU - L&C p4 LC-B500E - +3.3v 28A, +5v 50A, +12v 18A, -5v 0.8A, -12v 1A, 5VSB 2.5A
Several other optical drives that are currently disconnected, pending system starting to function.
No O.S has been installed yet, as the system doesn't even post.
    Thanks in advance.

  • New P43 Mobo Won't POST

Here's the one line summary: Brand New MSI P43 Neo3-F 1.1 with Q6600 boots for 8 seconds, doesn't POST, turns self off, then back on for 1 second, then repeats.
Here's the full details. I've had this system for since June 2007. It was originally built with a XFX 680i LT mobo. Eventually, that system stopped booting (slowly degraded to no more POST) and I RMA'd the board. I got a new one that booted all of once before it refused to POST. I swore off XFX and went with this MSI. I have never seen the MSI POST. When I turn it on, it powers for about 8 seconds, then turns off for about 5 seconds, then turns on for about 1 second, then off for about 5 seconds and repeats. I was told my PSU could be too weak (I didn't agree, but figure it was worth a shot) I upgraded and I have the same results. Here is the current build:
    MSI P43 Neo3-F 1.1
    Q6600
    XFX 7600GS - 128 MB, Dual DVI
    2x1GB DDR2 RAM
    7200 SATA HDD
    2xDVD+RW
    PSU: 750 W Corsair (provides 720W on 12V Rail)
I originally had a Rosewill 500W which provided 380W on the 12V Rail, which should be enough for the original setup according to my calculations. I got the new PSU and I'm sticking with it. Is it possible that the PSU on my original setup damaged the MSI board - in just a few minutes? Is it possible that the Q6600 is damaged? I have seen a lot of posts about the Quads not being supported until a specific BIOS version - is that what I'm running into?
I haven't seen anyone report the power cycle thing I'm running into with the MSI - what gives?

  • MSI P45 Neo3-FR (PCB 1.0) Doesn't Post/Constant Restart w/ memory in Dimm3 & 4

    MSI NEO3-FR 1.0
    ATI Radeon HD 4890
    4x 1GB A-DATA Vitesta Extreme Edition DDR2-800 4-4-4-12
    INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9400 2.66ghz 6mb cache
    Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU 500W
    Bios Version: 1.A (Latest)
I'm really stuck on this one.
Basically the computer boots up fine when I have memory in Dimms 1 & 2, but it won't boot and keeps restarting over and over if I have memory in Dimms 3 & 4
    What works:
    1gb in Dimm 1
    1gb in Dimm 2
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2
    What doesn't work
    1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 3 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 3
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 4
    1gb in Dimm 1 & 1gb in Dimm 2 & 1gb in Dimm 3 & 1gb in Dimm 4
Pretty much if I put anything in Dimms 3 or 4 ... it doesn't post and will keep restarting till no end...
So the most I can have right now for it to post is 2gb of ram and they need to be in Dimms 1 & 2 which means they aren't even in dual channel.
All 4 sticks of ram are tested and works fine in another system.
I've also tried various bios settings (disabling Spead Spectrum, Disabling enhanced memory, Various Cas settings, speed settings, and voltage settings) and same problem persists.
    Halp Please!
Edit: I tried putting in some new memory - Gskill DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 - 2GB stick and same problem.
Seems like my memory slots 3 & 4 are bad?

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.
I did get it to post in the end. Thank God.
The fix for me was to go into memory settings, then under advance memory settings change that from auto to manual. I did not change anything when all the extra settings came up, but either way it posted and I'm happy now to be able to have dual channel memory.

Reads to me like you probably have changed the 'CPU Core Engine Speed' setting out of Auto? Probably cooked the mainboard's MOSFETS. What was the CPU V. set at and for how long a period?
Nop. And voltage was set to 1.33 for a year.

  • MOBO doesn't past POST

I just brought some new RAM and installed it.
Everything worked at 1st, so I head into the BIOS to up my FSB frequency to 200mhz (PC3200 RAM) and droped the multiplyer to 10.5. That should of given my a Core frequency of 2100. I know my chip could handle more cause it was running at 2200 before on my old PC2700 RAM bit I went in lower just in case.
Anyway I saved those options and then the machine now doesn't past POST, I have tryed clearing the CMOS and no joy I have also put the old RAM back in and still doesn't work.
    Anything else I can do?
    I have a MSI K7N2G (ILSR)

though perhaps not of the same quality
I don't think so. There are two reasons why I'm using this board instead of a msi board:
    - Msi boards no longer offer mounting holes for headsinks. I need them for my watercooling.
    - Asus uses passiv northbridge cooling. Works fine and is noiseless.
I bought a nvidia board because I was curious about soundstorm audio. Really great sound but in the moment I'm having little problems with the line in, that's why I'm using my old soundblaster. No time to solve my prob so far...

  • 754 Ultra MS-6561 Windows crash and now sometimes doesn't POST

Bought a new MSI motherboard and installed everything that's in my signature.  Everything is used except for the memory and the mobo.  The computer was running fine for a few weeks. No problems. Only recent installation is an old game: Independence War 2, where it would freeze or crash to desktop.  Didn't think much of it, as I hadn't patched it yet.  Then yesterday during lunch I tried to turn on the computer and got the following error before it got into windows:
    "While Initializing device IOS:
Windows protection error. Please restart your computer."
So I restart and the computer wouldn't POST. After a few tries, it POSTs but I got the following error:
"Invalid VxD dynamic link call to device 3, service B. Please run windows set-up to fix."
So I have to restart again, and it wouldn't POST. It's the same thing over and over, it would start up and hang before POST, the display doesn't even turn on. Waiting a while and trying again will result in it POSTING. I check the tempurature of the processor and it's a cool 43-50 degrees celsius, never going higher than 65 degrees celsius on a normal day.
It will let me into windows sometimes without errors, but it will crash and then won't POST for a while. One time I was able to get to the command prompt and while trying to see a directory, it froze and bunch of symbols were all over the screen. And then at restart it wouldnt POST. But if I let it sit, it will start up no problem. But it will crash after a while.
I get home from work yesterday and decide to do the following: run scandisk, update the BIOS to 1.7, update my video drivers, and reinstall Windows 98SE.
Mind you, the day before I could barely keep the computer on, let alone try to do anything on it. But when I turned it on last night, it seemed like it was back to normal. I was on it for like 2 hours doing everything to it. I ran the scan disk and it worked fine.
The bios update went without a hitch. When I reinstalled windows, I didn't format the harddrive and only installed it over the existing 98. Why? Because I have no idea how to format a harddrive and I don't have the Win 98 cd (my bro in law, when installing it the first time on my old 450, put all the CAB files and whatnot in a directory and I installed it through there).
I do everything else and leave my computer running for a little while. No problems. It seemed like it was running as new. I was even getting better resource management by 1% (no big deal I guess). I start up and shut down a few times to make sure I'm not crazy and it really did seem like it was normal again.
Then I shut down and go watch tv for a little while. I come back to it later, and BOOM. Same crap as before: Windows protection error, please restart. If not, it's the dynamic link VxD crap that tells me to run windows set-up.
It doesn't even let me into Windows thru safe mode. Going step-by-step start up, it seems to crash and shut down at loading windows GUI. Then it won't let me post for a while, like before.
I download memtest as I saw in one post here and as it's doing it's test I get the same thing I get when I'm in DOS:  Freezing and funny symbols on the screen.
D-Bracket, when it hangs either is at:  Full Red (processor info), or will jump from the memory test to the early chipset initialization, then back to the memory test lights.
I'm at my wits end.  Please help?

Thanks, Wonkanoby.  I had seen that already (one of the first things I did when I saw those errors was to go online from the work computer and look for what those errors meant in windows support).  When I was able to get into my computer, I used msconfig and saw that my system.ini was fine.
I haven't tested different ram yet, though.  Which one do you all suggest?  What I have is kingston, but it seems that some of the MSI boards don't like them.
And although it wasn't suggested, I changed the power supply as I saw that many of the problems on here were associated with it.  I got an Antec True 430.  Sure enough, it wasn't the problem :(  Still debating if I should keep it over my 330 watt (also Antec) or return it and get dinged with the 15% restocking fee.  I may be upgrading to a 2600 soon I may keep it.
I'll try the new memory this weekend.  Meanwhile, any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • PCi III doesn't POST

I'm running Solaris 10 2008.05 on a Sunblade 2500, and I'm trying to install a PCi III card on it. I linked sunpcidrv.2100(.64) to sunpcidrv.290(.64), and ran the sunpcload command. Everything looked great, but after creating a new emulated disk, the thing just sits there. Since a picture is worth a thousand words, you can see it here: http://sagatagan.com/Screenshot.png. I tried reflashing the bios on the card, but nothing changed. To be honest, I do have an irregular hardware configuration: the boot disk is in slot 1, since (I think) the backplane is bad and slot 0 doesn't work, but I don't think that could be the problem. (I'm going to fix that some day.) Has anyone ever seen a problem like this before? Any suggestions? You can see the output of prtconf -vpD here: http://sagatagan.com/prtconf.out
    Thanks,
    Tom

someone suggested this may have to do with a BIOS limitation about how much ROM space can be used for initialization routines such as video BIOS, mobo BIOS, and any other I/O cards such as the SCSI... Apparently most SCSI cards use 64K or so of memory at init and shrink back to like 16K or so....
Going to play with moving the cards around to change the order of initialization and we'll see if any change occurs...

  • K7N2 Delta2-LSR doesn't POST

Hi there, sorry before if anyone had asked this question before,

    Sempron 2600+

i just tried to oc this system,
before : Sempron 2600+ @1833MHz, fsb 166, ram timing auto, vcore default 1.5V
1st trial : FSB 185, ram timing auto, vcore 1.55V, POST success, but i didn't boot to OS, entering setup again, wanna try higher FSB
2nd trial : at FSB 188, ram timing auto (i only changed FSB and vcore), vcore still 1.55V, my system didn't POST...
I tried to clear cmos, by moved the jumper, but it still didn't POST. Anybody help me pliz, what problem did i face?
    Thank's

Do you have the manual that came with the motherboard? What kind of RAM do you have ( PC2700-333Mhz or PC3200-400Mhz)? If you are going to be increasing FSB you should have PC3200.
You will need to set the jumper on J10 to pins 2-3 (safe mode) restart PC and reset BIOS to default settings. Next turn off PC & set J10 jumper back to pins 1-2.
Before attempting to overclock again come back here for advice.
Yup, i have ram, DDR 500, but i run it at fsb 166.
what i tried is FSB at 190 Vcore 1.7V (default 1.6V) ram timing 2-3-3-7 T1
but the cpu temp is 52C (on bios)... is this normal? i only use the stock cooling HSF...
at FSB 166, temp is 47C. But i touch the HSF, not so hot like that temp, is the sensor wrong?
Anyway, on the socket A, there is an electric ribbon (sorry, i don't know the name...i name it my self ), is that the sensor for the cpu temp?
"J10" is nothing on my MoBo, i use "insert" while pressing power button, it worked just the same like "J10" works...

  • Switched CPU now MOBO doesn't Boot

I have an MSI 6378 Ver 3 Mobo. Up until this afternoon it worked great. It was running an XP1800+ CPU. I had someone at work who upgraded and gave me their XP2000+ cpu, so I figured, what the hell. I installed it, but the system would suddenly power down when it started to boot into windows. I would then have to remove all power from the system (disconnect the cord) before I could power it up. So I figured I got a bum CPU and put the old one in. With the old CPU the monitor won't come on, so I don't even know if it is getting to post or not. It sounds like things are spinning up, but I don't have any display. I have a seperate PCI video card, and I get a display with the bad CPU. Can anyone give me some suggestions what I did to my board? I really don't want to purchase  a new board/CPU/memory combo if I can avoid it.
    Thanks,
    Lee

    Hello,
You know that you only need a thin layer on the CPU DIE (thinner than paper).
And a small layer on the heatsink.
    What heatsink are you using?
    Why the XP1800+ wont post?
When you put the XP2000+ in the board runs the CPU at 1.667Ghz.
If you swap CPU's the board may try to run the XP1800+ at 1.667Ghz instead of 1.5Ghz and with the locked CPU's it will cause the PC not to POST.
So you should clear the cmos everytime you change CPU's.
What other components are you using and power supply?
Are you running the CPU at the correct speeds?

  • K9AGM2 Mobo PS2 Mouse POST Error Message

    Bios AMI v02.61
Recently the USB mouse connected to the system died and I had to  temporarily attach a PS2 mouse to install a replacement and all this works fine. However when I turn on the PC now I get a POST error message "PS2 mouse not found press F1 to continue". How can I I get rid of this tiny annoyance? I have searched the bios options and reset the CMOS to no avail.

I read the Moan Guide but could not find any references that were helpful. As to the origin of the board, it was purchased from a retailer here in Australia and the manual describes it as a K9AGM2(MS-7327 SERIES) and has the AMD 690G/690V chipset. Have to say in all respects it is a great little mobo.

  • 845E bios set to default now scsi doesn't post

I have a 845E Max board and an Adaptec 29320-r scsi card. Having problems setting up system and accidently reset the bios (amibios A6566 ims v27112802) to default. Now the scsi post (ctrl A) doesn't appear (it did before the reset). I've tried all sorts of bios settings, even cleared cmos, nothing's worked . I moved the adaptec board to another computer and everything worked fine (scsi menu showed during post)

I'm assuming that BIOS is not recognizing your drives - right?
I'm not familiar with your BIOS or SCSI set-up, but I do know that when the 875P BIOS is set to default only PATA enabled drives will show up.  You have to manually set BIOS to recognize serial drives and/or RAID configurations.  The boot sequence also changes to default.

  • K7N2 Delta2 mobo problems - no post!

Hy I am new to this forum.
I have the folowing problem with my computer: I use my computer for about 2 hours and then my LCD closes and it posts "No signal". I restart the computer and the screen is blank. If I reset the bios on my mobo then my computer starts running again - otherwise it does not post.(if I change the Video Card without resetting the bios it still does not start). Forgot to mention that it only starts correctly after a 5h of no power running through the Mobo - if I reset the bios earlier then it still does not work, also tested the Mobo with another CPU, with diffrent RAM and diffrent video cards.
    Specifications:
    Mobo: K7N2 Delta2 LSR
    CPU: AthlonXP 2400+
    Graphic: Leadtek Geforce 6600gt tdh
    RAM: 1Gb Geil, (2x256+512) - same type (Value 400)
    HDD: S-ATA 160GB Segate
    PSU: 450 Sirtek
    Audio: Audigy 2

Finger on North heatsink with fan, nice and cool. Finger on South, bare chip, quite uncomfortable.
I guess you could say I am a dabbler with digital audio. I expect it to be perfect, like high quality analog, on board. But digital brings a big problem, more in a moment. I looked at that XFI out of curiosity, not impressed, just a jump forward, but still major shortfalls in my opinion.
Even with analog, solid state has its problems although they have gotten much better but it has a record of being noisy compared to high quality tube circuits.
But going digital - problem- take this example. First, although claims are that no human can expect to hear a 24KHz tone, tests reveal that people perceive its being missing when it is dropped from the audio signal. Maybe we feel it through the hair on our bodies or the vibrations on our eyeballs. But to a true audiophile it likely comes across as that sensation of something being wrong that causes ones hair to stand on end and bring on the fight or flight instincts.
That being established that true audio should carry the frequency of a piccolo or cymbal and all the overtones, likely way higher than 24K, lets take a look at a pure 24KHz tone. If you take a single 24KHz sinusoidal wave and convert it to digital at a 24KHz rate, that sinusoidal becomes a very small spike. At what rate would you have to convert/sample it to get a near same representation digitally? (Admittedly I get a bit confused with band widths and sampling rates) But, just to do it in stereo, one spike per channel = 48K. Quad=96 And up according to how many channels, such as 7.1 actually being 8 channels=192. Some multichannel DVD's are encoded at that rate and some DVD players sample at that rate, but in the world of computer audio, although some of the Audigy's claimed 192, they split it between I/O.
The XFi seems to be taking a step in the right direction, that is doing a quite high rate of doing as much as possible on the card rather than everything having to move across the PCI buss. But according to a diagram I looked at, it still uses the computers RAM which means moving a lot of stuff on that buss. If the guts of that card are worthy, the next logical would be gobs of RAM on the audio card.
I am not sure what Intel's forray into ASIO was, but it got dropped as near as I can tell. It may have been a low tech approach to adding such infrastructure to MOBOs, sort of like their original roll out of AGP video, on board and used system RAM, but provided an upgrade path to better aftermarket AGP cards. And such approach with the audio was likely on the cheap to provide upgrade path for compliant audio cards, but because it sounded worse than current mid-price cards they could not get demand for it.
My thinking was that it's architecture would be the equivalent of creating a very high quality stand alone audio box(all work done inside), such as some available for a few thousand, and then interfacing it with the computer as a command controller, not processor.
