  • Does XA52P Sata drive work with Nforce3 250 boards??

i have Msi's K8N Neo Platinum Nforce3 250gb board.  It has a native Sata controller on the chipset.  Does anybody know if Msi's new Sata drive will work on this baby??

I just bought the XA52P and it works fine with my K8N Neo Plat.
Here's another review of it, just incase anyone is interested.

Just sharing some info... the XA52P doesn't read CDs at full speed unless you hold down the power button for 5 seconds and the LED stays on.
The active panels are pretty thick and looks kinda out of place next to normal optical drives.

  • Live Update down for AMD boards?

Ok it has been down for a week now and I don't know why :( Support is just asking me to reinstall... But the problem clearly isn't in my setup.
Here is pic of how many drivers can Live Update find for me.
Here is the info that Live Update shows to my mainboard.
When I search for AMD boards in Live Update it gives me zero results (at least for all AMD K8 boards), but Intel boards shows just fine.
MSI could you please fix this problem soon?

Sigh... Yet another web drama queen.
LOL He will be back when he has a real issue. We give the best tech support on the web but we can't contol MSI's own website that contains Live Update and their drivers.
I guess some folks never will get it.
Or does he still think that I work for MSI? HeHeHe
Sorry didn't notice at first that this was a USER 2 USER forum...
Won't be back here after this post since I have no need for tech support (can manage my self).

Don't you think that I have installed the drivers alreayd?...
I only posted because they have a bug in their system and it seems that they don't know it themselves.
I already issued this problem to techsupport, but they just asked me to reinstall (even when I said that I had done that allready)...
Gave them a bit more info and hopefully they will understand that the problem is in their servers.

  • Z87-G55 on-board usb 3.0 setup

I'm planning a build around this board but I'm not sure about the on-board usb 3.0 connectors. How do you connect a case with two usb 3.0 headers on the front panel? I only see one onboard usb 3.0 connector.  I downloaded and read the manual but I haven't actually laid eyes on a case or board with this feature yet so please forgive me if I'm missing something completely obvious.

    * By header do you actually mean ports? Header is what's on the MB and the cable from the case ports plug into the header.
Yes there is only one 19 pin header on the MB and it is for 2 USB 3 ports on the front panel of the case. Different from USB 2 in that each of those headers are 9 pin for two ports.
Anyway don't worry, if the case you will be using has two USB 3 ports then they will both be connect to the one motherboard header by a single cable/plug.

  • USB-trouble on 7235 P965 Neo board

    Hi,
I resently bought a HP Photosmart C4280 all in one printer. However, connecting this to my computer to any USB port causes that the computer completely freezes up.
As soon as the power to the printer is switched on or a switched on printer is connected through the USB port to the computer this happens.
HP-help center advised to change the drivers of the USB ports and choose the Standard USB host controller. Doing this I noticed that only 2 of the 7 USB host controller in the device manager are listed as "enhanced" versions the other are the "universal" versions. I came to understand the enhanced version means USB2.0 and the other USB 1.1. This brings me to my questions
    - Is it correct there are only 2 USB2.0 host controllers possible, and how can I find out which usb-port this refers to. I have 4 in the back (on the MoBo) and 2 in the front panel.
    - From MB is advertised having 10 USB2.0 ports. No mention of USB1.1 only ports. Is this correct. (I suspect the backpanel USB ports of beiing only USB1.1.
    - I cannot install the "enhanced" drivers for the now listed "universal" host controller. Is this correct.
    - Does anyone have additional thoughts/ solutions about a printer that freezes up the computer when connected or powerd.
As mentioned in the title my motherboard is of the type MSI P965 Neo version 7235 V1.1.
    Thank you for your time.

All of your USB-Ports can operate either in USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 mode.  They are assigned to the proper controller when an USB 1.0 or USB 2.0 device is connected.  Have a look at the explanation I provided here for comparison:

  • USB trouble on k8NGM2-NBP new build

    board: msi k8NGM2-NBP
    cpu: amd 3800+
    drives: single maxtor ide 80GB
    ram: OCZ platinum 2-3-2-5 PC3200 512MB x2 (1GB) (slots 1 &2)
with the DDR voltage raised to 2.65+, detects at 400Mhz
psu: Antec 450 from a Sonata II
I get this board from www.mwave.com and start testing by connecting
    components on my tabletop
The first post is OK. I set optimal defaults, reboot, then raise the DDR voltage so
that I see the RAM working at 400 Mhz, instead of 333.
Next I try testing with a bootable CD of memtest86+. I'm able to test without errors through test #4.
By accident I try memory testing with a
bootable USB flash disk. I get errors immediately. I then try the bootable CD again with an
external USB drive connected -- RAM errors again. Now I know that its the USB causing an instability.
So the board is OK as long as I have no USB ports inuse -- .
I don't continue on with the build, the next step being an install of FC5 linux, until I
know if this is an RMA issue or bad bios setting.
    please advise and thanks

    hello Kakarocht and Built2last,
This board has the nvidia 6150 northbridge with integrated graphics, which I'm using -- no addon video card for this build.
The bios is the latest, at 1.1 -- I checked the site.
I've been advised elsewhere that even with USB RAM errors I should go ahead and install an OS, since the OS can do integrity checks.
I don't agree with this and stand firm that there should never be any RAM errors, with or without USB connections.
I tried connecting to USB on the rear and with the onboard headers -- all gave the same bad results in memtest86.
From reading a few posts here very few posters test RAM in a tabletop build, but usually charge ahead and do their first
build in a case, then test after assembly. I don't do this anymore -- I did for my first few builds.
I'm going ahead with an RMA since I have confirmed that everything but the MB is good. I tested the RAM and CPU elsewhere.
    ciao

  • KT3 Ultra - USB Trouble

Hey, im having some trouble getting the USB-ports (The 2 on the board, not the extra on the "cards", they are lost) working on this m-board.
First of all the USB devices where disabled in BIOS but that is fixed.. but here comes more trouble. WinXP found new devices when i started the computer after i enabled the usb in bios. But, i cant find any drivers for "Universal Serial bus" , and its under "other units" in the device manager. But.. the "VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host controller" and USB-Hub is found, drivers found and prolly working.
    Anyway.. what should i do?!
Excuse my bad english and bad translatíon.. im swedish

"...and its under "other units" in the device manager..." It should appear as a separated item after Net devices or Net adapters. Perhaps could work deletting all USB items in Device Manager, reboot and let W XP reinstall all of them.
Did you load SP1 for W. XP ?

  • Z77A-G43 USB troubles.

    Hi there,
This week I did a build for one of my clients for wich I used a Z77A-G43 board and I'm having trouble with most of it's USB ports. Planned for the build was an Asus P8Z77 WS board for this workstation, but since my supplier couldn't deliver on time I was forced to pick another, the Z77A-G43 was recommended to me by my supplier and after reading a lot of positive reviews I gained enough faith to just go for it. Unfortunatly, I have ran into trouble with the board... :( Just my luck!
The USB 2.0 ports on the back function fine, but the headers on the mainboard and de 3.0 ports (on the back as well as on the 3.0 header) give me alot of headache.
The problem was noticed first when I tried installing the OS with a USB stick. First the install failed almost imediatly, telling me it couldn't find the medium. I thought it probably had to do that the install of the OS didn't have drivers for the USB 3.0, so I tried the USB 2.0 port on the front of the case (connected to header on the mainboard). This time the PC wouldn't even POST normal, no errors either.... it just hang there. I'm also unable to enter setup with a USB stick in one of the ports connected to a header on the mainboard. If I plug the same stick into the back, the system POSTs fine, can enter setup, and installed the OS this way. All is fine, as long as I don´t connect mass storage media to the USB headers on the mainboard.
When the OS was installed, I could connect a drive to the front headers and Windows will recognise the drive. I´m even able to read from and write to the drive. However, if I leave the drive in and reboot the PC, I have to take out the USB stick to be able to post (same thing if I leave a SD card in the reader by the way). Switching off legacy USB support in the bios lets me POST with storage media connected to the USB header, but if I restart windows with mass storage connected to the headers, it won´t recognise the drive once it´s booted.
This also happens with the card reader that´s connected to one of the headers. If I disconnect the cardreader and plug it back in with windows running, it finds the cardreader and I can acces my SD cards. If I restart the PC, it posts as long as legacy USB support is turned off (with it on it hangs at the POST), but as soon as windows is loaded, the cardreader isn't recognized and it doesn´t see the cards untill pysicaly I reconnect the cardreader. The bluetooth part of the cardreader is recognized just fine though, and also the webcam connected to a front USB port will start just fine on every boot. Just don´t expect a USB memory stick or the cardreader´s mass storage functions to work.
Is this a known bug with the BIOS at the moment? Or is this a case of defective hardware and do I need to RMA the board?
    Things I did so far to help it;
    Installed latest drivers
Updated the BIOS to version 2.7 (including the Intel ME) at that point I realized the connection between the problems in windows and the post / bios setup problems with the front USB headers and mass storage.
    System specs:
    Case: Fractal Design Define R3
PSU: BeQuiet Pure Power L7 (530 watt)
    Mainboard: MSI Z77A-G43
CPU: Intel i5 3470 Ivy bridge
    Cooler: Gelid Tranquillo rev2
    RAM: Crucial Ballistix 8GB PC3-12800 (1600 MHz, CAS8, Non-ECC, 2 sticks)
    SSD: Samsung 830 128Gb
HDD: WD Caviar blue 1TB (7200rpm)
    Optical: Asus DRW-24B5ST DVD ReWriter
Cardreader: Akasa AK-ICR11 all in one cardreader with bluetooth
    OS: Windows 7 Professional
Hope someone can shed some light on this...
    Thanks in advance,
    Michiel
    PS:
I'm sorry for my bad English, it's not my native language and am not used to having to write in it.

I'm not keen on trying to flash beta versions of a bios onto the board, if I'd brick it it would be my own risk. I can compensate for power outages by putting the system behind a UPS, wich I always do, but I can´t compensate for bugs present in a prerelease. It´s just a risk I´m not willing to take, especialy if the problem isn´t one that more boards of the same type have.
If it's not a known issue I think I'll RMA the board... I mean, if other boards of the same type are not bothered by it, by all means, they (my supplier) can send me another one that´s not plagued with these gremlins.
Mainboard has been run on a testbed outside of the case already with one DDR3 2GB stick (Kingston valueram), same result. I will check the CPU pins, but to be honest, I would be VERRY surprised if one of the pins would be off.
Thanks for your help so far, but I think this will be one for my supplier to take back.    Hope I have more luck with the board they send back. Is the Z77A-G43 generaly a reliable board? Or would it be wise to request another board? I can't afford to having to tell my customer that the board I got back also failed... It will already miss it's deadline because of this, so I realy need to have a solution asap

  • MSI AMD Boards/K9N6PGM2-V AMD co-processor driver

Acknowledging that this is an older board, K9N6PGM2-V (MS-7309-090), I hope there is some hope of help available.
I built this PC a number of years ago with an AMD Athlon II X2 240 CPU (2.8) and it has been as solid as a rock, running Win XP-Pro, since I first hit the switch. I was so impressed with how stable the M.S.I. A.M.D. system was, I built another, more powerful, system based on the same platform. The machine also has an MSI N430GT MD2GD3 video card. I recently upgraded the OS to Win 7 32 bit HP. I have downloaded and run the following files from the MSI site:
    M7309 v1.2.zip
    mcp_732_mb.zip
    nvidia_30697_8732_vga.zip
The B.I.O.S. are the original, as shipped. I would, if necessary, flash the B.I.O.S. with the latest version.
    There are 2 issues:
    1. Device Manager shows an alert with the co-processor (no driver installed). An alert I have never seen before. I assume that all I need is the correct .inf file, but I can't seem to find it.
    2. There are 4 Gb of R.A.M. installed (2x2 Gb D.D.R.2 PC2-6400 Un-Buffered NON-E.C.C. Crucial), which Win 7 recognizes, but the system only shows 3.25 Gb usable. It was my intention to use 8 Gb. of R.A.M. (4 Gbx2), since the both the Mainboard and the OS will support it. I'm just not sure about the memory controller. I checked the A.M.D site, but couldn't find the specifications on this older C.P.U. There would be no point to installing 8 Gb if I can't use more than 3.25 Gb. I don't know if this is a problem with the co-processor not having a driver, or if some, but not all of the chip-set drivers installed properly.
I hope I have provided enough information, but, if not, please advise.
Any help anyone out there can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.
    T.

Thank you for your reply. It's encouraging to know that there are people here who care about others who are having problems.
The MB was purchased new, not 'refurbished' or used.
I checked the MB, as per the photo shown. It is without question K9N6PGM2-V. The label on the B.I.O.S. chip is pale green, as in the photo. With a magnifying glass, I can clearly see 'A7309' on the top row and either 'NMS940' or 'NMS94()' (can't be sure which, it's really small).
The file 'M7309v1.2.zip' is the MB manual.
As I suggested to 'badboy2k' in a previous post, I decided to re-run the  'mcp_732_mb.zip' file (System & Chipset Drivers). This time I saw dialog boxes I didn't see the first time. Surprise, surprise, there is no longer a 'co-processor' error in Device Manager. I guess something didn't run the first time. It also offered to install the nvidia ForceWare Ethernet configurator, which I didn't get the first time. So it looks like my lesson is, if it doesn't do it right the first time, run the setup again.
The PC is now running fine, with no warnings in Device Manager.
Thanks again to all who helped.

  • 4th gen ipod usb troubles

ok, so i bought a 20GB 4th gen. iPod off ebay and i can't get it to work with my computer. I have a Gateway laptop with roothub usb. My computer will detect the iPod, but not my iTunes. And it has trouble charging. I think it is a compatability with my computer so now what can i do? I don't really want to have to upgrade my computer just for my iPod, but as far as I know the iPod is the only device that will play the AAC iTunes files.

Apple created the stupid AAC file format to annoy Windows users.
Change your settings in Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Importing ~ to "Import Using 'MP3 Encoder'" - not AAC. If you wanna send music to a friend over AIM/MSN/Yahoo or whatever and they dont have iTunes, it's annoying, MP3 is more globally accepted.
So your iPod works with your computer, but not with the iTunes.
    Things to try:
    1) Re-install iTunes
    2) Reset iPod
Good luck and reply back soon!

  • MSI AMD board which supports AMD mobile ?

Is there a MSI Mainboard which supports an AMD Mobile ? Does anyone of you have any experience with that combination or does anyone know a (desktop) mainboard able to run that combination ?
    Thanks for any answers.

I have never understood why BIOS chips aren't all  pop-in/pop-out replaceable. Then a screwdriver and $30 check to BADFLASH would update the BIOS with the threat of bricking a system that might take weeks/months to reconstruct. That's just panding to DELL/HP/LENOVA/MS & a bad attitude from the mobo manufactures.
I will take your advise and look for recently manufactured boards, tho getting a serial number from NEWEGG  or TIGER DIRECT would be like getting a Lords-prayer from Beelzebub!
Quote from: XFM on 04-November-14, 14:34:22
I can't recommend any particular MB for you but can just say do some research on MSI website for Z87/97 MBs for BIOS vs CPU support. Also keep in mind that recently manufactured MBs will have the later BIOS on them from the factory. You can determine if the MB you decide on has a later BIOS from the serial number if the store you buy it from will provide you the S/N (from date code in S/N) when purchased. Flashing the BIOS if needed isn't quite as bad as it might seem if you ask for help on this forum before attempting to do it. There's a right way and wrong way to do it and using Live Update is by far is the worst way, instant expensive paperweight is the usual result by using Live Update.

  • NForce3 250 board comming?

    Short and sweet:
Does anybody know if MSI plans to release a 754 board based on the new nForce3 250 chip? And if yes, when it will be available?

    Thanks for the tip!
Now the only thing I really need is some patience...

  • K8N Platinum board 54G trouble

Ok, first things first, I do NOT like this board one bit! Already tried to exchange it but the store refused to do so, something they have no right to but hey what can I do about it?
Anyways, considering it did cost me a nice amount of money I might as well try to get this piece of crap to work at least a wee bit. Don't get me wrong I always had MSI boards but it seems that Platinum boards are still the *to avoid boards* for some reason. Anyways that's my personal experience. And for your information, I had no idea I was buying the G54 Platinum board, I only noticed afterwards when comparing prices... too late naturally.
Well the problem is that there are MASSIVE LAN trouble with this board. I spent 5 hours, 5 HOURS fixing the conflicting ports. I finally got the MAC Nvidia port to work but the Realtek is still... well broken. I have cable internet so I depend on my LAN ports to work 100% which isn't the case of this board it seems. Thing is like I said, the only port working is the Nvidia one, the Realtek isn't doing much besides getting on my nerves. Not a SINGLE bit of data comes in. The port keeps sending out signals but that's it. Is there some kind of hardware firewall spooking around somewhere? If so then PLEASE for the love of the computergod tell me where I can blast that DAMN firewall to Oblivion. My modem itself already has a hardware firewall so it's more then likely they conflict with eachother. I already disabled the Nvidia network boot thingy after the POST screen so that should be ok now. Didn't find any Realtek options however.
2nd problem is that my Windows is for some reason booting up EXTREMELY slow! I don't mean the desktop loading, that's quick as lightning, but the Windows bootup screen is like taking 2-3 mins to switch to desktop. Impossible according to my hardware configuration because I have an FX-55 CPU. And trust me, they aren't supposed to boot up so slowly. Also note that this is a new installment of Windows XP, I already formatted my HD 2 times. So driver conflicts are out of the question unless the problem is again LAN port-related.
3th problem is that my onboard soundcard seems to conflict with my Audigy 2 card even though I disabled the onboard sound card. Well the conflict isn't bad however the game port doesn't want to install properly. Never had it with my previous MSI board. Anyone got a clue what it could be about? Do mind that this is not an urgent problem it's more a curiousity I have since I never had trouble with my sound card before.
Well I don't mean to nag or give criticism, but really guys, this board costed a nice amount of money and I can honestly say that I didn't pay for additional trouble. First time ever I had massive trouble like this with an MSI board. Even after updating EVERY driver there is and even BIOS versions the problems seem to stay identically the same so I can only assume there is a hardware/firewall problem somewhere. Any form of help would be extremely appreciated.

I know how to fix the gameport problem, have to do each every format.
1 Put the Audigy in the slot one above the orange one.
2 Install drivers off disk and reboot.
    3 Download latest audigy webupdate's
    4 Install webupdates and reboot
5 On reboot it will ask for CTGAME.SYS
6 Grab it off the audigy install cd.
    7 Reboot
8 On first boot it will be really slow, but dont worry cause next step solves this.
9 Update the drivers again using the webupdate you downloaded
    10 Reboot
11 No slow boot and problem gone, gameport detected and working properly.
