NForce3 Chipset + Maxtor Problem

Hey Guys wonder if you'll could please help me with this weird problem i have:
Recently i purchased a Maxtor 250GB IDE Drive. Its connected on IDE1 as MASTER On IDE2 i have a samsung dvd-writer on master. The problem is once i install the nVidia ide driver my writer stops reading and the pc freezes up while it trys to read.Once i uninstall the nVidia IDE Driver it works fine but the
problem now is when i burn DVDS OR CDS My CPU Usage is between 80-> 90% and i cant do anyting else .And DVDS take 25mins to burn as the buffer level on the  writer goes up and down.Ive heard theres a problem with maxtor drives and the nVidia Chipset. Its not the writer cause i tried a new one and it does the same thing takes very long to burn.Need a solution please
Thanks.

Have a Segate 120GB SATA on sata4 with windows on it,IDE1 Master is the Samsung DVD-WRITER,IDE2 Master is the Maxtor 250GB.Using the Drivers of the NEO2 Motherboard disk.Could you give me a link for the 4.79 IDE/SATA Drivers
Thanks.
You can get the drivers, and a load of other contenders at http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=19.  Which drive are you trying to boot from?  An interesting insert in a recent Asus A8N-E manual state sthat the boot order priority for nForce4 SATA is 3,4,1,2 depending on drives being present... apparently overriding or conflicting with whatever is specified in the BIOS boot order.

  • Early Chipset Initialization Problem

    Hello all,
After reading around this board I havn't found a very good answer for the Early Chipset Initialization problem.  (which is the code that D-bracket gives me)  Everything is entirely new, Including the new PSU that I bought to try to fix the problem.  Any ideas?  I know it's not the PSU so don't try telling me that.
The funny thing about this problem...the computer locks up and gives me the Neo Platinum screen, gives one beep to say the POST finished, and then locks up and I can't use the keyboard or get into the BIOS.  Oddly enough, if I hit the reset button it boots up just fine.  I'm thinking perhaps a faultly reset switch but has anybody else had this problem?

Yeah try using a USB keyboard instead if you are using a PS2 keyboard..

  • Early Chipset Initialization problem with K8T Neo 2 - FIS2R

    This one has me stumped.
I went to install a new CPU fan earlier today and while I was installing the fan I had to remove my sound card and AGP card so I could screw the fan to the side of the heat sink.
I got all that done and went to start the computer back up and now I get a contineous high pitched sound while at the same time 3 beeps. The D bracket shows a green LED on 1 so this is the "early chipset initialization" problem.
What is causing this and why would this happen after a fan installation?

Okay after a bit of messing around with the problem I discovered what the problem was....
I didn't plug in the power to the video card
Yeah the 6800 uses needs more power from the PSU and I left that little rail unplugged. Maybe some other soul will find this useful in a time of need.

  • P7N Diamond (Ms-7510) - Possible chipset heat problem

    Hi,
Have a P7N Diamond (Ms-7510) with possible chipset heat problem.
After looking around I have seen the platic plugs that keep the chipset heatpike in-place are broken.
Would like to replace them but dont know what size and type to get.
    Does anyone know?
Or perhaps there is some other issue with it?
Have seen a few people who clams there is alot of issues with this m/b...
I am a bit stubborn and want to get some life in to this thing! ;-)
FYI I have posted a few others post about this m/b before here...
    Thx

Try checking at hobby shop or hardware store and get some nylon screws of size needed instead. Just measure the hole size or take one of the broken pins with you so you can get the right size. Length shouldn't be much of a problem because if you have get something longer than needed they are relatively easy to cut.
P7N was one of the not so good MBs back then. P45 Platinum was one of the very best though and if you could get your hands on one of them for a good price you would be very happy with it. I know several people with new rigs but their mainstay backups are P45 Plats.

  • K8n neo nforce3 250Gb - maxtor sata II diamondmax 10 300GB [partially solved]

    I have a K8n neo nforce3 250Gb motherboard (bios 1.1) and just bought a MAXTOR sata II diamondmax 10 300GB Harddisk (Model:6v300f0, 27 april 2006, firmware:va111630)...
After plugging it in, the bios failed to recognise it, unless I did a warmboot after the first boot...
Errors in initializing and formatting the drive and i/o errors in event manager resulted...
We have heard it all on these forums and now I know there is a compatibility problem...
My question: Will I benefit from flashing my 1.1 bios to 2.1..? (Has there been a compatibility-fix somewhere along the line)
If not, what brand SATAII PCI controllercard will make the HD work..?

For testing, I acquired a 'Sweex 2 Port Serial ATA PCI' Card. model nr: FD000050
http://www.sweex.com/product.asp?pid=328      (Picture did not match recieved card, but chip model nr. did!)...
Worth 19 Euro at my local Media Markt store...
This SATA controller has two sata 150GB connectors with a Silicon Image chipset...
I set the jumper on my maxtor sata II diamondmax 10 300GB, to 150GB mode... (move jumper from right to left)...
(I read there is little to no performance loss on 150GB (sata 1) mode anyway)
This seems to have solved my problem and the drive works throughout multiple cold/warm reboots, format, copy, delete and test operations...
Eventhough the drive is only working on sata 150GB mode now, I am ever more confident that a Silicon Image PCI sata II 300 controller will make it function on full 300GB mode...
Still any suggestions/results on my abovementioned questions are very much appreciated...
I will check back with updates..!

  • Big SATA/Maxtor Problem [Hanging] - Please Help

    System Specs:
    P4 2.40 @ 2.40
    512 mb DDR (Transcend - 2x 256) @ 333 & SPD
    MSI 865PE Neo2 [Bios 1.7]
    Leadtek GF4 Ti 4200
    Aopen PSU [250W]
Maxtor Diamondmax Plus 9 120 gb SATA 8mb cache
    IDE LG CD-R/RW
WinXP + Sp1 + All updates + Intel INF etc etc [Fresh install]
    Problem:
The HD light will stay on and the system will hang randomly.
I've had nothing but trouble with this system. I originally thought that the Maxtor was faulty, so I got that replaced. Unfortunately, I still have the same problem.
My current onboard IDE config is as follows:
On chip ATA(s) - Native Mode
    ATA configuration - S-ATA only
    P-ATA keep enabled - Yes
    P-ATA Channel Selection - Both
    S-ATA Ports definition - P0-1ST / P1-2nd
I have, however, tried all possible combinations. Also enabled in BIOS is "APIC ACPI SCI IRQ", which seemed to decrease the frequency of hangs once enabled. The drive will hang the system anywhere - after saving settings and exiting BIOS, during POST, on boot or in Windows.
Is anyone else having this problem and is there a way to remedy it? If not, is this problem DRIVE or BOARD specific? Will there be a BIOS update to fix this issue?
The easiest way to reproduce this is to run 3DMark 2001 SE once in Windows - it doesn't take long for the drive to hang the system.
Any and all help is much appreciated!
    Thanks

First off, thanks for all the replies.
From a personal point of view I'd like to say that I do not think the PSU is to blame. Having had the drive replaced once I am now sending the new one back to the distributor again. The distributor says that they will again test the drive on another 865 chipset, which should ultimately determine whether or not there is a compatibility issue between Maxtor & the MSI board and/or ICH5. I'm getting it swapped for the Seagate 120gb SATA model which will hopefully solve my problems, but I'll keep you posted!
    Reilly875:
Quote: "AND ALSO HAS A PSU THAT HE STATES THAT IS PUTTING OUT 11.5AMPS ON THE +12V RAIL"
That is incorrect. I'm sorry that I did not clarify, but what I was referring to was voltage and NOT amps. I had posted the amps for each rail a little earlier, the +12V being rated 13amps.
    NovJoe:
Quote: "Maybe there really is a need to have a workaround method for the SATA drives to be compatible with the mobo and if there really are having more cases between 865/875 mobos and Maxtor, I'll forward it to the MSI engineers for help."
I think there really is a need,  , but hopefully we'll know soon.
(In fact, this is probably costing Maxtor quite a bit, seeing as distributors are forced to replace drives which may be perfectly OK... My distributor is using the "Powermax" utility from Maxtor to test for faulty drives, and both the drives I've tried now failed each and every test when I ran Powermax.)
    daffy the red:
I have played with various BIOS settings - without any results.
My CPU is not HT enabled and it is 533 FSB. Also, my board doesn't have the integrated promise chipset, so no I did not enable that nor did I install any drivers for that. I did, however, install the Intel chipset drivers. Unfortunately it's all irrelevant anyway since the drive locks up out of Windows as well  .
    Thanks again!

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R & Maxtor Problem?

I've installed a 80GB Maxtor S-ATA drive on friday and istalled Win XP on it. No problems so far. But when I booted the PC the next day I got lots of error messages regarding data loss when writing. And that all the time. :(
Another thing is, when I go to my BIOS I can't lock my PCI/AGP clock to 34/67 when going to 250MHz FSB (5:4 ratio). If I do a BIOS reset and set everything and save it seems to work. But when I re-enter the BIOS, AGP is shown as high as 72MHz instead of 67. WHY? Is there a program I can use to look what clock I really have for PCI and AGP in Windows?

    Hi,
i have the same hd mine works fine on the 875P
the only problem i have is that my maxtor boots and works in UDMA5 mode only on both the intel & promise.
Does yours show UDMA6 at boot up also i can set the agp/pci bus in the bios to 3 options 66/72/80 i am not to sure but if i remember correct before the maxtor hdd i could set it in 1 mhz increments but not now.

It boots Ubuntu fine.  Arch linux doesn't complain either.  I only found out about the problem when I tried to pacman -Syu straight after the install - there was no networking.  ifconfig had done its job but there was no routing table.  I manually added route add default gw 192.168.0.1 and edited /etc/resolv.conf to make sure I could get to my router but, again, it wouldn't work.  The forcedeth module had been loaded (ethernet driver) so I took a look at lspci (details in very first post) and can see that it's appears to be an issue with the PCI bus (the ethernet hangs off the PCI bus)I ran hwdetect --modules and pasted the output into /etc/rc.conf and rebooted.  Still no joy.
The mobo is an ASRock 939N68PV-GLAN.  It has an nVidia chipset (GeForce 7050 NB + nForce 630A MCP SB).  From my lspci results it would appear the problem is with the 630A MCP.  As Ubuntu works and Arch doesn't I'm perplexed.  And yes I've googled and followed what little help there is around.  Nothing has worked so far.  Hopefully someone will have experienced a problem with either the same mobo or the 630A MCP and they can tell me what needs to be done.

  • Satellite A30: Sound card & Chipset driver problem.

    Hi all,
I'm about to get REALLY crazy!! I'd really appreciate if anyone can help me..
    My story is:
I've lost all my recovery&driver CDs that were given to me in 2004 . But, I had to format my pc at this weekend due to many system reasons(bugs, unable to connect to net, etc).
My first step was I downloaded all kind of drivers for Satellite A30 from Toshiba site. And I got XP professional SP2 from my friend and installed it. But after finishing all the installations below is the result:
    1) NO SOUND :(
    2) Question marks on 2 items that are a)Multimedia Sound Controller and b)PCI Modem in Device Manager/Other Devices.
    3) Chipset installation error message: Intel(R) Chipset installation utility requires chipset platform supported by the supporting operating system. Please read system requirements section in readme.txt for further info.
As far as I checked in forums my chipset was not properly installed, but, when I try yo install the Intel chipset 895PE (csutil-sa30-xp-5011015.zip) that I downloaded from download address http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com, it gives error message and some people tells to install drivers in a right order as, first install XP with SP1 and then install chipset utilitt, then install SP2 etc..But this seems to be not easy for me..
I can really repeat my FORMAT process again, but in which order..
    thanks..

    Hi,
Just to inform you that my problem was solved by itself :)
I've reformatted my laptop and installed the original XP Pro SP2 again by following the instructions.
Sound problem was solved automatically, no chipset utility installation required..
The sound problem was probably caused due to missing Microsoft KB835221 update for SP1, and KB888111 for SP2, which then was solved with the original latest XP..
    Rgrds..

  • Intel 9 series chipset driver problem

    hello
i know this is intel driver's problem, but as a manufacturer who use intel products especially chipset, can anyone tell intel that their "9 series" chipset driver is totally crap, absurd and so on? for those who are using this series of chipset, try checking their chipset driver via device manager and click any of "intel 9 series chipset family" driver under system devices or "intel 9 series chipset family usb..." driver under usb controllers and you can find that its driver provider are from microsoft and dated 2006. right, it is installed by operating system and chipset installer utility did nothing.
until intel knows about this thinsg, those who using 9 series chipset are using drivers from microsoft.

    Hi,
Do you actually have any problems? Because Quote
chipset driver is totally crap, absurd and so on?
    doesn't explain anything.
Follow >>Posting Guide<< and if possible we'll help you with the problem.
The fact they're dated 2006 doesn't mean anything. As long as thing is working fine, there's no need of updating. Possibly you're one out of xxx people that has some problems with it, but Intel (nor MSI, M$ and so on) couldn't really catch the issue since millions of tests before release is impossible.

  • Intel Chipset Driver Problem

I have the following problems when installing bootcamp driver 3.1 to newest Macbook pro 15' i7 core,
Intel(R)Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Universal Host Controller - 3B36 has a driver prblem
Intel(R)Series/3400 Series Chipset Family USB Universal Host Controller - 3B3B has a driver prblem
    What are these controllers?

In order to promote a solution, I filed a bug report at
    http://developer.apple.com/bugreporter/
I assume that Apple has to resolve this problem with a firmware update, because it seems to be independent from the chipset drivers being used. I could reproduce the problem on different Windows versions, including Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.
It is possible for me to use the USB ports to a certain degree (i.e. external media like hard drives or memory sticks), until the system becomes completely unresponsive. By using a remote session I could verify that the system was still running, but that all USB devices including keyboard, trackpad and mouse lost the connection to the system.

  • Which SATA drivers do you use for nForce3 chipset?

Windows Generic or the ones that come with the nForce3 drivers?
When using the nForce drivers, my hard drive operates louder and the light appears to be flickering a lot more (indicating more hdd access) when compared to the Windows XP drivers.
Which do you use? What should I be using? I remember reading some threads that said nForce SATA drivers suck... but that was months ago.
    Thanks for any info

  • [VIA] kt4v-viakt400 chipset memory problems

I am currently running with (2) 256mb ddr400 sticks in the slot 1 and 2 position as registered by the computer evan though the modules say pc3500 Geil ultra . when I try to add a 512mb pc3200  module it refuses to start up . when I remove the module everything works fine . what gives? am I going to have to remove the original modules and install two matched modules in slots 1/2 to achieve my desired goal of 1gb ddr 400 mem or even switch to pc2100/2700 mem to achieve this?

If you don't want problems such as the one you just suffered, you should avoid mixing difs. brand/speed/make memory. So, best way to upgrade your memory is to buy 1 Gb. stick or 2 identical 512 Mb. sticks. As you don't say what FSB CPU are you running in your system, I'll say you should go for same FSB speed to run them 1 : 1
