NFSv4 or even v3?

nfsd advertises itself as v2 only. I have an NFS client that will only speak v3 or v4. I know that nfsd is v3 capable, but I cannot seem to persuade it to tell portmapper about its capability. Is there some secret I'm missing? Thank you so much!
By the way, I have no idea how to select the correct "operating system". uname -r says "10.7.4" and the pull down menu won't offer that selection.

Good to know John, thanks. As the use of this iMac is exclusively for print design, issues regarding video, 3D rendering/graphics/animation, etc. have not been of any particular importance. And, as CS5 & 5.5 (designed for older gen graphics cards) hadn't yet made much of Adobe's now notable "fluid" application movement, my wife simply won't know what she missing -until she upgrades her computer now likely toward the end of this year. Saving Adobe documents to favor the end user or client's program(s0 limitations has been known concern since Adobe starting updating and up grading it's program suite. Configuring NFSv4 domain name

I currently use NFSv3 sharing from a Debian box to my Mountain Lion clients, and it works quite well. I was having issues (as do many, or so I read) with NFSv4, one of which was that the initial mount would take perhaps 30secs to a minute to list the contents of the directory.
However, I've just read the following here:
We […] set the NFSv4 domain name using "dscl" as described in the man page of "opendirectoryd" of 10.8.3. After a reboot […] the slowliness of NFSv4 was gone!
The dscl use is as follows:
NFSv4 Domain name
     The following will set the default domain name used to map user and group identities in NFSv4
     client/server operations.
     dscl . -create Config/NFSv4Domain RealName <Example.com>
     This command requires root privileges.
I haven't got a clue how to go about implementing an "NFSv4 domain name", ie. how to choose it, what format it takes, whether I should use the same or related domain names on each client etc.
Would someone be willing to clarify things for me?
I'll obviously still be reading around once I've posted this, but all the documentation I've come across so far seems to expect a greater degree of competency in matters of networking than I can lay claim to.

[solved] Lockup during attempted NFSv4 mount

NFS seems to be set up fine but my shares go stale very quickly after mounting. (nfsv4)
It's only begun to be more temperamental lately... before it would mount but still go stale (freeze during a directory listing)
Server displays connection attempt:

Ah-ha! Solved it...
Wondershaper updated and it defaulted to rate-limit my eth0 instead of ppp0 which is normally shaped.
Limiting eth0 to 800kbps killed everything...

[SOLVED] NFSv4 mounting constraints

With a server whose exports looks like:
/srv/nfs4 192.168.122.0/24(rw,no_subtree_check,nohide)
And with a directory hierarchy:
/srv/nfs4/code/proj1
/srv/nfs4/code/proj2
/srv/nfs4/code/proj3
/srv/nfs4/code/proj4
Is it possible to mount an arbitrary descendant of /srv/nfs4 on a client? For example:
mount -t nfs4 host:/srv/nfs4/code/proj1
If I try the above, it fails. The only way I can get it working is if I mount the exact directory that is exported on the server. Is that expected behavior? I assumed that if the host mounted a directory, that a client could mount an arbitrary descendant of that directory. Is that false?

/srv/nfs is my root folder shared over nfs, and has drwxr-xr-x, as does /srv/nfs/code underneath it.
Interesting note that seems like it could be related: when I mount /srv/nfs4 from the client, it will see the code sub-directory, but not the sub-directories beneath that (one of which is the one I am trying to mount). All of those directories have the same permissions as /srv/nfs4 and /srv/nfs4/code.
Just for reference, this is the bind mount in fstab that I use to mirror my home directory:
/home/brandon/code /srv/nfs4/code none bind 0 0
Being unable to see any of the project sub-directories on the client even if I mount from the root /srv/nfs4 seems like the most glaring issue that could perhaps be related to why I can't mount the sub-directory directly. Any ideas?

After Drive Replacement, iTunes Points To Wrong Folder Even After Adjusting Settings

I moved my music to a new hard drive. I then adjusted settings within iTunes to "point" to the folder on the new drive. The folder name is identical as are all the files within it. I did this a few months back and had no issues once iTunes "located" my files. All files played, playlists remained intact. This time however only a small portion of my files successfully "located" and the remaining 75% are unplayable. When "shown in finder", the unplayable tracks point to a completely random folder within my mail folder of obviously non-music files. I've been searching for weeks how to fix this to no avail. I definitely do not want to lose my playlists, play counts, etc. so starting from scratch with iTunes is not an option for me. Please advise how to fix this very odd issue!

To resolve this we will need details. I don't know exactly what is where. Even though it "worked last time" I see people post with that and almost invariably there is something different in the scenario this time.
The iTunes application alone has no idea where media files are. You could drag all the media folders you like to the Media folder and it won't know. You could "point" iTunes to that folder in preferences and it still will never look there. iTunes knows where files are because as you add them to iTunes it puts them in the Media folder and makes a note in that .itl file where the files are located. When you try to play a track iTunes looks up in the .itl file which media file it should try to play when you request the track and goes to that location to play the file. If there file isn't there you get ! You have to mend the links one by one, or iTunes might try, based on you repairing links. to repair other links, but it doesn't usually work that way and is only partly successful at times (as we have already discussed). If you have ever walked into a store and see an empty shelf but their web site says they have 3 in stock and the sales person says all their stock is out on the shelf, iTunes is like that.

The playlist I wanted to add was "Country." It is clearly checked. I also wanted to add the "Recently Added" playlist, which I also checked before sycing. Currently, my phone only has the "Purchased" playlist and my "All Songs" playlist on it. When I hit sync, iTunes added another playlist automatically added another playlist to the list above and checked it. It was titled "ALL SONGS 1" and had ten fewer songs in it than the playlist I had created, "ALL SONGS" had. This playlist, however does not show up on my phone after syncing, nor does "Country" or "Recently Added." (Every time I sync, another playlist is created as "ALL SONGS 2, 3, 4, etc.") One of the songs (I have not, yet checked the other songs) that I purchased from within iTunes Radio shows up in the "ALL SONGS 1" on this screen:
But does not show up anywhere else. This playlist does not show up anywhere but the two screens above. The ALL SONGS 1 or 2 playlists do not show up here:
When I search for those song in my library, it shows that I do not have them:
But if I go to the iTunes store, I get the play button and not the price of the song:
This is what things look like from my phone's side of things:
"Summertime Sadness," one of the songs I bought from iTunes Radio, does not show up in the iTunes store under purchased "All" or "Not on This iPhone"
But, it does show up under "Recent Purchases"
Also, this is what playlists are on my phone after syncing a million times:
Only what was on there before I started any of this. "Summertime Sadness" and the other songs I bought from inside iTunes Radio, do not show up in either of these playlists. Please, help me.

If it says your billing info is wrong that means that your credit card issuer is refusing to approve your account. You will have to solve the problem with your bank or credit card company.

I can't print anymore, the "help" button doesn't work, and Firefox always sets to "Never Remember History" even if I change it

SO many issues with Firefox now! For one, it crashes quite a bit. I submit the crash report, and go from there. Keeps happening. But the main thing is this:
I go to "Options" and under "Privacy" it has "Never remember history" - I change it to "use custom settings for history", hit "ok" and then when I go back to it, it's back on "never remember history" already. What gives?
The issues I'm having right now is that I used to click on Print in my email (Yahoo) and pop-up blocker would stop it, but a dialog would pop up saying "try again", and I would hit that, and a separate window would open where I could print the email. Now, when I click on print, NOTHING happens. No box, no changes whatsoever. No pop-ups blocked, nothing at all. I mean, the button for "print" doesn't even react like I clicked on it. Nothing happens.
The other issue is that when there's a text box, if I start to type my email address, it suggests my email address. It never used to do this! I don't want this, either. How can I stop the suggesting of my email address. I don't want it to remember what I typed!
Another issue with Firefox is that when I click on the "menu" button in the top right, there's a question mark that says "open help menu" at the bottom. When I click on that, the help menu is EMPTY. I included a picture so you can see.
I've "reloaded Firefox", as well as downloaded another copy and actually reinstalled it. All these errors keep happening. How can I get them to stop or function correctly? What's causing them to work all wonky?

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

FF downloaded some update and now I get error message saying update cannot be installed until I get rid of extra FF copies on computer-but I DON"T have any extra copies. I cannot even uninstall the only FF I now have!

I have a Toshiba laptop, Windows & Home Premium Edition operating system. I had FF 3.6.3 installed and up until 6:00 today it was sort of working properly. I find out later that my huasband cannot even open the browser, as every time he does, a dialog box opens up whcih says "UPdate cannot be installed. Please make sure no other copies of FF are running on computer, then restart FF to try again." But I do not have any other copies of FF. I really do not like it when FF auto installs stuff without my permission. Many times this stuff is downloaded and installed, only to raise havoc with my computer.

Since I downloaded 4.0, FF has been very slow to respond to pretty much any request. It crashes quite often, and now after uninstalling it, and reloading it, I cannot even get it to start. sure could use some good advice.

I had been using 3.something without any problems. After I downloaded 4.0 my troubles started. I would be reading the news in Yahoo and would click on the next page or news item and would get the message ' Oops, well this is embarassing'. Or when I would be looking for something, it would just lock up. When it would finally get to where I wanted to be, it was taking longer and longer to respond. Today, I can't even get it to open at all. Nothing else was altered or added or deleted that might affect FF.

Open Sale Order Value (FD33) not getting diminished even after closing SO?

Hi,
Upon Executing FD33 and clicking the status view for a Customer say XYZ , and then choosing EXTRAS-Open Sale Order . Say the value of open sale orders being shown is 75000. Even after closing the open sale orders (By Selecting VA05 and Putting reason for Rejection), and then also the Open Sales Order value is not getting diminished.
What could be the reason ?

Hi Binayak,
As mentioned by you, running of Credit re-org program 'RVKRED77' is the only solution for this problem and it is known problem in SAP.
Some precautions
1. Always run the program in background by scheduling a job.
2. The idle time is around midnight when no user is working on SAP.
3. Some time the job fails as some other program may be updating same tables as this program. In such cases re-schedule the job at different time.
4. You may run the program 'RVKRED88' which will simulate without actual updation of credit values.

If the same website is opening each time you launch a browser (Safari?) hold down the shift key as you launch to prevent previous pages from opening.
Have a look at your settings in Safari > Preferences. Especially General and Privacy.
Reset Safari to remove cookies and other stored data.
