NI 488.2 Install in Ubuntu 13.04

Are there any plans on supporting Debian based installations? I want to use Ubuntu and Raspberrypi for my instrument control and automation.

This KB : https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-4140 talks about the installation instruction. These instructions are unfortunatly still not supported by National Instruments and do not appear to have been tested with Debian Linux.
The only supported Linux versions are:
openSUSE 11.4
openSUSE 12.1
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
Scientific Linux 5
Scientific Linux 6
The article http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4857A755082E9E228625778900709661 provides a thorough overview of which Linux Distributions are supported by National Instruments. • New install of Ubuntu, Firefox menu bar is missing.

    I have a new machine with a new install of Ubuntu 12.04. In Firefox the menu bar is missing. I have the black border with 3 buttons in the left and the current page title. I also have a tabs bar and toolbars. I've looked in the forum/help and tried the suggestions there, here's what happened:
    If I right-click the tab bar, the only toolbars shown in the drop-down menu are Navigation, Bookmarks and Add-ons, so I can't show the menu bar that way.
    I don't have a Firefox button.
    I've tried creating a new toolbar and moving all buttons except the address field and google search across in case it was a lack of space on the toolbar but that didn't help.
    I can't reset the profile as I don't have a help menu.
    I've re-installed Firefox and there was no change.
    Does anyone have other suggestions please?
    Tim

    Ubuntu 11.xx and later displays window menus in the control bar at the top of the screen with the switch to the Unity window manager.
    * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Unity
    Click on Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks then move your mouse to the left upper corner toward Firefox Web Browser.
    You will get pop up menu (Organize, Views and Import and Backup).

    I need install OS ubuntu in Boot Camp, i can?
    I have Apple Mac OS X Montain Lion, but i need install Ubuntu at virtual machine for using software third party.

    If you want Ubuntu in a virtual machine there's no need to try to use Bootcamp.
    You want something like VirtualBox (which is free) or Parallels or VMWare Fusion (which are paid for).
    Once one of the above are installed you can create your Ubuntu virtual machine with it.

  • Upgrading Application Express on Oracle XE (installed on Ubuntu 8.04)

    I'd installed on my laptop (OP is Ubuntu 8.04) Oracle XE and is wotking quite fine.
    But I really like to upgrade apex to last version (3.1.2). I read documentation but are not many information about how to upgrade.
    Daniel

    Thanks Arie,
    On whatever version of Windows I've updated without problems Application Express.
    I'm talking here about Ubuntu (a debian distribution of Linux).
    My problem is where to unzip apex, where to use sqlplus command prompt etc., because is different than Windows.
    If you don't have DBA rights on the account (user account other than root) you have errors in installation process and more.
    For example they say in doc...:0
    "To run the apxconf.sql configuration script:
    1. Change your working directory to ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\apex or whatever convention used to indicate the Oracle home.
    2. Start SQL*Plus and connect to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed as SYS. For example:
    * On Windows:
    SYSTEM_DRIVE:\ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
    Enter password: SYS_password
    * On UNIX and Linux:
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
    Enter password: SYS_password".....
    When you install Oracle what version you need, OP (Linux) create a different user account for Oracle. Usually if you want to use your account like dba for oracle, you need to give to that account the proper rights.
    So, I need a installation rutine (for upgrading) for apex on Linux.

  • Help w/10g-XE Install on Ubuntu

    Hello world,
    I have a (new to me) Ubuntu OS on which I am trying to make Oracle 10G-XE behave. I have searched many threads here and elsewhere on the web, but still cannot find an answer to the problems I am encountering.
    I have d/l'ed the 10g-XE deb file and used Synaptic to install it. Everything went smoothly. When I try to "Go to Database Home Page" I have been receiving this message: "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at 127.0.0.1." There are lots of posts with suggestions on what to do, but I cannot follow the advice because I am stumped on many fronts.
    Most of the replies to this error say to check out what 'LSNRCTL -status' gives me. Well, when I try to run that command I receive this in reply: 'bash: lsnrctl: command not found.' I tracked down the exact directory with the command and got the same message. I tried running it with SUDO and got the same message.
    I followed other threads to try and run the 'oracle-xe - configure' command and it too, could not be found, even when launched from the dir that holds the script. These two things together make me think that I have something wrong with my Linux config, but not sure what to do or how to track it down. The weird thing is that SQL tells me that help is unavailable (SP2-0171: HELP system not available.) That makes me think that my Oracle installation is incomplete, but not sure how to verify a good clean install.
    I will gladly accept all suggestions on how to do my homework - just point me in a good direction! Thanks all ..

    Thanks! I have put the output from the commands you recommended here:
    $ pwd
    /home/oracle
    $ ps -aef |egrep "xe|pmon"
    mark 5294 1 0 07:48 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/gnome-applets/mixer_applet2 oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet_Factory oaf-ior-fd=27
    oracle 6014 1 0 07:54 ? 00:00:00 /usr/lib/gnome-applets/mixer_applet2 oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_MixerApplet_Factory oaf-ior-fd=20
    oracle 6552 6540 0 08:04 pts/0 00:00:00 grep -E xe|pmon
    $ pwd
    /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin
    $ ls
    ...lsnrctl ...
    $ lsnrctl
    sh: lsnrctl: not found
    As I mentioned - I cannot understand why bash is telling me it cannot find the Listener. Even when I go to the owning directory and verify the executable is there (see above) and tell bash to run it, I still receive this error message. I have previously visited your very nice blog prior to posting here and tried many of the steps you recommend there. It seems to boil down to starting lsnrctl. But I believe the problem lies within Linux as other commands are similarly not recognized.
    I also found that trying to run the script to install SQL help returns the same 'not found' message.
    What would you recommend next?

    What you describe can probably happen, but it is much more likely that it is a CDN problem and there is a broken copy of Packages.gz out there somewhere. To test the CDN theory, replace repository with repository-origin.

  • Unable to install on Ubuntu 14.10

    Hi all. Im pretty newbie with linux so please bare with me. I just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10, and due to some issues I have been happening (long story) removed Skype with the intention of simply just reinstalling it, but now I am unable to do so. I downloaded the Ubuntu 12.04 multiarch version (I assume that this means its compatible with various versions) and tried to open it via the software centre. I get an error in the software centre that says 'Cannot install 'libpulse0:i386'.
    I ran a few other commands that I found on other threads that seemed to have similar problems, so so far I have run:
    sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get upgrade --fix-missing
    And then tried the software centre again, but still the same problem.I tried installing the package manually through the terminal (sudo apt-get install libpulse0:i386) and got this result:
    Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
    requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
    distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
    or been moved out of Incoming.
    The following information may help to resolve the situation:

     libpulse0:i386 : Depends: libsndfile1:i386 (>= 1.0.20) but it is not going to be installed

    Not really sure where to go from here :/ Any advice? Cheers!

    UPDATE
    I ran the repair broken packages option from the GRUB menu, and although it seemed to work for that package, I get the same issue now with another. The error reads:
    Cannot install 'libqtwebkit4:i386'
    Running that in a 'sudo apt-get install' command returns:
    Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
    requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable

  • Air Application Install Segfaults [ubuntu 8.10]

    Hi all,
    I'm having trouble installing AIR applications, the AIR
    install finished ok but as soon as I install an application the
    window disappears if I'm using the GUI and running "Adobe
    Application Installer" from the command line just shows that it's
    segfaulting..
    Anyone have any bright ideas, I'm running the stock version
    of ubuntu 8.10 (32 bit)
    Cheers,
    Ian.

    OK, I've found a workaround: I can run some AIR apps with adl
    from the AIR SDK as described here --
    http://www.flashinthepan.ca/computer-tips/linux-computer-tips/adobe-air-on-gentoo-linux
    Some apps (notably Queued) still segfault during
    initialization, and I've been told by an engineer at sitepen.com
    that this is due to a missing or corrupt ELS (encrypted local
    store), and they are trying to figure out a workaround for it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Installing over Ubuntu on MacBook Air 6,1

    I have a dual-booted MacBook Air 6,1 (early 2013). Currently it's running Mac OS and Ubuntu. Ubuntu was mostly a test as this is the first Mac I've owned since OS 8, and I wanted to feel out the hardware for compatibility issues.
    Now I'm looking into installing Arch. I've already partitioned the drive according to the wiki post prior to installing Ubuntu. My question is: Can I simply reformat the Ubuntu partition and proceed installing from there?

  • How is Java JRE or SDK actually installed in Ubuntu?

    Ive used Java since the 1990s. Its been mostly on windows that has an exe installer; But always get to this difficult part when it comes to installation. Right now under Ubuntu i am installing java runtime again, have done it before but simply cannot figure out what it needs to install. Ive searched documentation and looked for anything that would indicate how Java is installed.
    Its almost like an endless loop, reading the online info it says to download and install click here. you download and extract it and it ends up as a folder with lots of files. How to install it? download it again, extract it. again, extract it, maybe one of these times something will indicate how to install it
    if anyone could point me towards the explanation or give me some hints, it would be so appreciated!

    Yes in the 70s the new music was disco, the theme was dance, have fun, make love, etc; contrasted to the recent kind of music thats monotone talk against a synthesizer talking about violence, drugs and crime, and those "artists" are super rich. I liked MC Hammer when he came along, but he didnt use profanity so they kicked him out...
    I think in the original question I had, there was the download site, agree with the terms, download and then? and then? how do you install it? nothing. you have to already know how to install it. Fortunately I was able to get fast answers from you (gimbal2 and from Sabre) who already knew, THANKS SO MUCH!

    Hello.
    I've downloaded the file "java_ee_sdk-5_04-linux.bin" and want to install it on a ubuntu os. Due to previous failure a ask you how to do this. How can I open this bin-file?

Since I also have installed JDK1.3.1, 1.4.1, 1.4.2, 1.5, 1.6, 1.7 each in several minor versions together with a couple of IBM JDK then I expect "manual" intervention.

    Unfortunately something causes a reversion to GCJ (I hate gcj) everytime I do an update or install. Ho hum.I too hate GCJ. Some time ago I tried to remove it but failed. I can't remember why. I might have another try again sometime (when I feel much much braver or more stupid than today).
