NI-5640R Labview 8.2 problem

Hi,
I just upgraded my Labview 8.0 to 8.2, and when I tried to run a program NI-5640R example, it said 'Unsupported item/ The plug-in for selected item is not isntalled to your system.'
Does anybody know why it gives me this message?
and I have FPGA module 8.0, I think I need to install 8.2, is that right? How can I get it?
Ahmet

Bonjour,

  • FPGA FlexRIO SCTL LabVIEW 2013 Compilation Problems

    Hi,
I have an FPGA FlexRIO (7962R) VI that interfaces to a 6585 LVDS board that consists of a SCTL running at 200MHz and using a Xilinx Coregen FIFO.
In LabVIEW 2012 using Xilinx 13.4 I have had no problems compiling this at 200Mhz, but in LabVIEW 2013 using Xilinx 14.4 I am unable to get it to compile reliably about about 170MHz with absolutely no modifications to the code.
The Xilinx FIFO is probably irrelevant as I have tried cloning the VI and removing the FIFO and still get the same problem.
Any ideas, things to try or solutions?
    Thanks,

Have you tried optimising the Xilinx compiler for Timing?
You can't modify the Xilinx compile options of a FlexRIO target.
In LabVIEW 2012 using Xilinx 13.4 I have had no problems compiling this at 200Mhz, but in LabVIEW 2013 using Xilinx 14.4 I am unable to get it to compile reliably about about 170MHz with absolutely no modifications to the code.
What compile error are you getting? Does not reliably mean that sometimes it does compile correctly? Can you upload a simple example of a piece of code that works in 2012 but not 2013?

  • LabVIEW, LabJack, activex problem

    Hello,
          I have a problem
running a LabJack vi with LabVIEW 7.1 but only in one of the user accounts on my
computer.  I have a computer that has two
user accounts. There is no problem with account “A”, but when I log into
account “B” and load the LabJack vi I get the message “Control can not be
loaded” on the Front Panel.  The name of
the LabJack vi is AISample.vi.  I believe
this is an Activex vi and in the system32 folder there is a file called
    ljackuwx.ocx.  I have run “regsvr32
ljackuwx.oxc” but that did not fix the problem.   Please let me know how to fix this problem.
    Thank You,

  • Can anyone help me with Labview/GPIB timing problems?

I am trying to use a very simple VI (downloaded from the NI site) to control a Newport 1830C optical power meter.
I have been spending most of my time trying to use the VI issue a command to read the current displayed power. When I run the VI normally, I get no response from the meter, and the VI simply terminates without any error message. (The "remote" indicator does light on the meter, though, so it seems to be receieving the command.)
However, when I run the VI in the "highlight exectution" mode, everything seems to work just fine, and I receive a correct reading from the meter! Needles to say, this makes it really hard to debug the problem.
My guess is that I have some kind of timing problem, and t
he "highlight execution" feature fixes it by introducing delays. Is this correct? If so, how can I achieve the same thing by putting in delays by hand?
    thanks, Whitney White

    Whitney,
I agree that this is very likely to be a timing issue. VIs run much slower in highlight execution mode, therefore your instrument may need more time to prepare the data you have requested. Try wiring a delay inline prior to the GPIB reads and/or writes, or try using Service Requests (SRQs) to give the instrument enough time to generate the data it needs to send back to the computer.
Another possibility is that your instrument may not be IEEE 488 compliant. Some older instruments indicate that they are ready to receive data before they really are. Try changing the GPIB bus timing to the slowest setting (in the GPIB Configuration Utility). This only affects the time that the GPIB controller waits before valid data is on the bus and the DAV line i
s asserted (a step in the GPIB handshaking that occurs each time a byte of information is sent to the device) so this may not be effective.
Lastly, you may wish to try the instrument driver for your instrument. There is a contributed driver at this location: LabVIEW Traditional Instrument Driver: Newport Optical Power Meter 1830C. A 'contributed driver' means that someone outside of National Instruments wrote the driver and then submitted it for posting. This driver also contains a good example of adding a time out.

  • Labview 2010 reinstallation problem

Hi, all. I am new at here.
I hope you all can help me regard to some problem of installing labview. I attached some screen shot during the error occurred. The main issue is I using the same labview installer to install the labview to my personal laptop and it's work but when I install to my company CPU, it did give me much error. Besides,  I had turn off all the window fire wall, but it's still cant work.
    More on my situation:
I doing this reinstallation to my company CPU is because the previous labview program installed had corrupted. Therefore,  I already fully uninstalled all the labview program and reinstall it currently. However, I am facing the errors shown in the pictures. If I am not mistaken, the previous labview version that installed  is same as the version that I install to the CPU now.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You don't necessarily need to reformat your hard drive, but you can if you wanted to reinstall Windows fresh. Otherwise, if you have Windows backups, you can restore back to a known good version. You can check how many version of LabVIEW are installed on your PC by going into the Programs -> National Instruments folder and view the different LabVIEW versions installed. I don't like to go back in versions of LabVIEW as I always had problems with drivers and hardware compatibility. If you ever want to revert to an old version, I would recommend to install on a fresh Windows.

  • Labview installation initiation problem

    Dear All
I had some sudden problems with LabView (Ver: 8.2.1) on windows XP since then I am trying to resolve the issue. After several time of useless unistalling and reinstalling I was told if I remove some of registry entries related to labView the problem might be solved so I removed some of registry entries which had some sort of connection to national instrument package from my computer but I did it very carelessly.
After that, the problem became even worse now when I start the installation process it aborts with this error message "Error: Windows SDK function returned an error  (error code -12) the system can not find the file specified"
Do you have any suggestion to resolve this issue?

    Dear Muks
Sorry! not really, I don't remember what I removed and more stupidly I did not make a backup of my registry but I just looked for national instrument entries in registry and deleted  a couple of those. Do you know if I can use any registry cleaning software to remove this problem or based on the error which relates to Windows SDK I can install something to resolve it? Because I installed windows SDK library files and so on but it did not work.

  • 64-bit LabVIEW - still major problems with large data sets

    Hi Folks -
I have LabVIEW 2009 64-bit version running on a Win7 64-bit OS with Intel Xeon dual quad core processor, 16 gbyte RAM.  With the release of this 64-bit version of LabVIEW, I expected to easily be able to handle x-ray computed tomography data sets in the 2 and 3-gbyte range in RAM since we now have access to all of the available RAM.  But I am having major problems - sluggish (and stoppage) operation of the program, inability to perform certain operations, etc.
Here is how I store the 3-D data that consists of a series of images. I store each of my 2d images in a cluster, and then have the entire image series as an array of these clusters.  I then store this entire array of clusters in a queue which I regularly access using 'Preview Queue' and then operate on the image set, subsets of the images, or single images.
    Then enqueue:
I remember talking to LabVIEW R&D years ago that this was a good way to do things because it allowed non-contiguous access to memory (versus contigous access that would be required if I stored my image series as 3-D array without the clusters) (R&D - this is what I remember, please correct if wrong).
Because I am experiencing tremendous slowness in the program after these large data sets are loaded, and I think disk access as well to obtain memory beyond 16 gbytes, I am wondering if I need to use a different storage strategy that will allow seamless program operation while still using RAM storage (do not want to have to recall images from disk).
I have other CT imaging programs that are running very well with these large data sets.
This is a critical issue for me as I move forward with LabVIEW in this application.   I would like to work with LabVIEW R&D to solve this issue.  I am wondering if I should be thinking about establishing say, 10 queues, instead of 1, to address this.  It would mean a major program rewrite.
    Sincerely,
    Don

First, I want to add that this strategy works reasonably well for data sets in the 600 - 700 mbyte range with the 64-bit LabVIEW.
With LabVIEW 32-bit, I00 - 200 mbyte sets were about the limit before I experienced problems.
So I definitely noticed an improvement.
I use the queuing strategy to move this large amount of data in RAM.   We could have used other means such a LV2 globals.  But the idea of clustering the 2-d array (image) and then having a series of those clustered arrays in an array (to see the final structure I showed in my diagram) versus using a 3-D array I believe even allowed me to get this far using RAM instead of recalling the images from disk.
I am sure data copies are being made - yes, the memory is ballooning to 15 gbyte.  I probably need to have someone examine this code while I am explaining things to them live.  This is a very large application, and a significant amount of time would be required to simplify it, and that might not allow us to duplicate the problem.  In some of my applications, I use the in-place structure for indexing
data out of arrays to minimize data copies.  I expect I might have to
consider this strategy now here as well.  Just a thought.
What I can do is send someone (in US) via large file transfer a 1.3 - 2.7 gbyte set of image data - and see how they would best advise on storing and extracting the images using RAM, how best to optimize the RAM usage, and not make data copies.  The operations that I apply on the images are irrelevant.  It is the storage, movement, and extractions that are causing the problems.  I can also show a screen shot(s) of how I extract the images (but I have major problems even before I get to that point),
Can someone else comment on how data value references may help here, or how they have helped in one of their applications?  Would the use of this eliminate copies?   I currently have to wait for 64-bit version of the Advanced Signal Processing Toolkit for LabVIEW 2010 before I can move to LabVIEW 2010.

  • Sidewinder Joystick & LabVIEW Integration Problem

Hi, I am a student trying to integrate a MS Sidewinder joystick in a robotic application using LabVIEW. My sidewinder is detected on my PC (Win7, 32bit)  and works perfectly on other applications (including detection as a HID). Just that it is not able to get detected on LabVIEW (2011).
I read up on different posts about device index being interfering with different devices and had all other external devices unplugged. The problem was still there. Some other posts with similar problems were solved by changing the device ids. I tried everything, still did not work.
    Help required.

You can try a different device number.  HI have used Win7 and Labview 2010 with a sidewinder.  It was odd but the code required the device number to be 1 on one PC and 0 on andother, but both worked.

  • Help! Flash MX to Labview with XMLsocket problem

I'm attempting to send strings to Labview using the XMLsocket object
in Macromedia Flash MX. I created a layer in Flash with the following
    Action script:
    mySocket = new XMLsocket();
    mySocket.connect("localhost",2055);
Then I created a layer with a button that has the following button
    Action script:
    on (release) {
    mySocket.send("mystring");
Then I created a Labview program (on the same machine) that has a
single while loop with code that creates a listener at port 2055 (the
port connected to Flash) and some code for reading the port.
This setup works, except Labview will only receive the string once
from the button push, even though the receive code is in a loop.
Subsequent button pushes in Flash does not resul
    t in characters being
received in LV. Has anyone here done this before? Thanks.
    gm

Fixed it. You've got to have the Labview create listener VI started
first and also outside the while loop. Works great!

  • Pass 2D array from LabVIEW to C# problem

Hi , I have made a dll using .net assembly to use my labview code in c# . I can easily pass string , numerical and 1D arrays from labview to c# and vice versa, but when I want to read back 2D U16 array from Labview in c# I get the following exception although they have exactly the same type (ushort)
Cannot widen from source type to target type either because the source type is a not a primitive type or the conversion cannot be accomplished.
Could you please let me know how should I pass 2d array from labview to c#
    Thanks

If all else fails, you could pass n 1D arrays across and then put the original 2D array back together. That's probably how the computer would do it behind the scenes, anyway.

  • LabVIEW DSC installation problems

    Hello,
I'm trying to install LabVIEW DSC 6.1 but when I launch setup.exe file this message pops up:
"Unable to load ini file. Windows Error 1157"
I have Labview 6.1 installed and my OS is Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4.
    Any feedback will be wellcome.
    Thanks in advance.
    Jose.

    Hello Jose,
I haven't ran into that issue and I'm not sure about its cause and solution, but here are some ideas on what you could try/check (they are separate ideas, not a sequence of steps):
-Login as administrator to install the software
-Make sure your PC has enough memory and free space on the HD
-Copy the content of the CD to the HD, and run the installer from there
-Modern installers have setup.exe and setup.msi launchers, try to execute the .msi instead of the .exe
-Reinstall LabVIEW 6.1 and then DSC (before that, make a backup of any custom vi's/files that may be overwritten/removed, and then uninstall LabVIEW from Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs ..Agregar y quitar programas))
If none of these helps, let me know.
    Regards,
    JorgeM.

  • Help in LabVIEW +ni 5640R

    Hi,
    I am Sreenivasulu.
I have started working on NI-5640R LabVIEW card.I am able to do simulations using
labview8.2. But I am unable to interact with NI-5640R to get the
output through output ports.I studied the manual given by NI. But I am confused fully
with the procedure and i did not understand.I tried the example projects ni5640R,but I
    failed.
So please tell me the procedure to be followed, how the ni5640R card ADC and DAC
working(how to give I/P to ADC and how to get the O/P from DAC),and how to interface
    host(my PC)and Target(ni5640R) using VIs.
Please tell me that how the signal flows(inter connection between)through the parts of
VI(both in HOST and FPGA modules).
Final my goal is i need to generate modulated(AM,FM,FSk,BPSK,QPSK Etc) signal with Fc
21.4MHz for providing as a input to other module(RAD-2,Pentaland).
plz tell me  can i get this by using  LabVIEWmathscript or modulation tool kit Etc.
    I am using LabVIEW 8.2 and card NI-5640R(PCI based) v 1.1
               Thanking you so much sir.
    Thanks & regards,
    Sreenivasulu.O

    Hi Sreenivasulu:
The example of the Getting Started Guide (manual), that probably you made has an updated version from April 2007 ( http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/371621b.pdf ).  This example is only designed to acquire a signal and visualize it, but it doesn't generate any signal through the output ports (read this very carefully cuz this are the basics which have to be totally understood).  You can try the Input Output example, which acquires and generates two independent signals.  I think the generated signal is a QAM which is totally unrelated to the input signal. You can also try the Frequency Translation or Sine Generation example.  Put special attention to the Local and DMA FIFOS, which transfer data between input and output (at FPGA level) and between FPGA and HOST respectively.
I also recommend a lot reading in this forum all the posts related with the probelms that other people had, and the possible solutions tha the comrades recommend.  Most of the time are common problems between 5640r users.  Good comprehension of the theory behind ADCs, DACs and FIFOS is also recommendable. Also there are some cool tutorials an videos in the NI's FPGA website, try them to understand the concepts.
OK, I'll try to explain how the dataflow works (as i have understood)
    1) Analog data comes through the input and is converted by the ADC.
    2) Digital data can be:
Manipulated at FPGA level: Once manipulated, the digital data is transported to the DAC (with the Local FIFO) .  The DAC converts the binary data to an analog signal, which then can be read throug the AO port
Transmited to the host to be manipulated or seen in the HOST (with the DMA FIFO
    I hope this helps you
    Cheers!

  • Subpanel problem & memory leak in Labview 8.0

    Hi,
I just installed Labview 8.0 Evaluation package yesterday. I tried to
code a user interface class using dqGOOP object oriented package. It
seems that LV 8 behaves differently from LV 7.1 which is good. One can
use same subvivi in multiple subpanels. I however run into problems
with this new feature i.e. I cannot edit the subvi after it has been
placed on two subpanels. Editing is possible after LV 8 restart.
In my code I create two similar object instances from the panel class. I have a class method panel_run which puts itself on the subpanel defined by refence. I have two subpanels on the main vi, one for each of my panel_run instances. I do not stop the panel_run instances cleanly, instead I use the Labview stop button to stop the execution. Once the main vi has runned, the panel_run subvi cannot be edited any more. When one opens the panel_run
subvi, a clone of the subvi is always opened instead. One cannot modify
the clone. After a few runs, I also got a memory segmentation fault
from labview, which then crashed. I was unable to repeat the crash.
I attached the code. Use panel_test.vi to start the program. Is
there any way to get around this problem of not being able to access a
subvi after it has been placed on a subpanel?
    Regards,

  • Two problems: folder select and start of Labview program

Hi, these are my two questions:
    1) The path control allow me to select only files. If I want to keep a folder I must write it in the blank. Newer versions of Labview solve this problem? I have Labview 7.0
    2) A program compiled with Labview start automatically when the exe is opened. How can I do if I want the program start only if I press the arrow button?

1). The path control with the browse button allows you to select an existing file, new file, new or existing file, existing dir, new dir, new or existing dir, etc. You just have to fight click on the control and select Browse Options.
2). In the application builder, there is a VI Settings tab. Go there, select your top level VI, and click the Edit Build Settings buttton. You can change the Run When Opened to no. This, however, is generally considered "bad style" as is having the toolbar visible. It is far better to have your program designed such that it starts doing what it is supposed to do when the user clicks a run button or selects from a pull down menu. You should also have a stop button and not depend on the Abort execution button on the toolbar.
