NI 9477 Dry circuit rating

Hello,
Can the NI 9477 be used like a relay contact ?
Is a minumum amount current required to saturate the MOSFET switch ?
Thanks
Brooks

Hi B_Lind,
Yes, the NI 9477 can be used as a relay contact.  The MOSFET switch does not have a wetting current.  Because it is solid-state, there is no oxidation layer to burn through like there is when you work with electromechanical relays.
Good luck with your application!

  • Cisco ASA 5505 performance issues on downloads - data into the ASA from the Internet

    I have having serious issues with performance on my ASA 5505s that I am testing with 9.2.3 code.
    I stripped the config and removed as much stuff as I could - no VPN etc. and I am ONLY getting about 30-40Mbps downloads from sites but 95Mbps uploads????  Anyone else seeing these problems?   If I remove the firewall my PC can hit 300/300Mbps to the same sites using the same switch and cable.
    I installed 1Gb of mem on the ASA 5505 but it made no difference. The ASA has a UL IP Security license but I am only using and inside and outside address for these tests, no other ports configured.
    Is anyone else seeing this performance problem with the 9.2.3 code?  I went to this from 8.2.5 to try to resolve QOS failure bugs that I found in the 8.2.5 code. I did not expect to have a performance hit though and it is only on downloads TO the ASA from the Internet from all speed test sites that I try. Uploading speeds seem fine. No access-lists on my interfaces either...barebones config.
    My FIOS and switch interfaces are fine...no errors on any interfaces and the same switch interface hits 300/300Mbps when my laptop is directly attached.
    Anyone have a barebones config on their ASA 5505 that flies...I will try it on mine and see if some command somewhere (hidden) is causing the issue. I even cleared the config and started with a clean slate just in case I was missing some command from the older configs that may have impacted performance.

    After changing the switch with a high end switch my performance increased but I am still not happy with the throughput out of my ASA. I have about 50+ ASAs 5505s and a dozen 5510s. Most remote sites have 5505s. All my sites right now have 8.2.5-51 and I wanted to put 9.2.3 out there to solve issues I have uncovered on the 8.2.5 code with regards to QOS issues.
    I get much better results using the Cisco 3750X attached to the FIOS  (right around 300/300 with my laptop directly attached to the 3750x bypassing the ASA - my FIOS circuit rating is also 300/300).  Going through the ASA to the same test site I get download speeds of 35 to 75. Changes randomly which really bothers me. My uploads speeds are ALWAYS faster then my download speeds.  Example - best download I would ever get is 75Mb and my upload would usually hit 95Mb during the same test period.
    I may have to live with it but the inconsistency is what really bothers me.
    Here is the config I am currently using. Nothing going on during testing since only a single PC is attached. VPN tunnel to the main site can be up or down...doesn't seem to make any difference. PC does to site directly from outside interface of ASA...split tunneling. Even when I removed tunnels and tested with just the ASA as a firewall to the Internet I was still seeing the same inconsistencies.
    Anything obviously  missing - new command or anything?   Xlates causing issues?

  • Power consumption on sleep

    After upgrading to Mavericks, I have noticed that the power consumption on battery on my MBP when in sleep with the lid closed is way up. 99% charge when puting the computer to sleep, 45% after 12 hours when opened. What gives? Any suggestions?

    Actually, the APC 1200XS works fine if and only if the G5 is already powered on. I'm running a stock Quad G5 + and extra 4GB of RAM, but nothing else off of the UPS.
    It's actually not uncommon to have appliances that draw significant currents/power on startup that exceed the basic circuit rating. Things like motors/pumps can draw large currents on startup. Circuit breakers and fuses need these high current levels to be present for periods longer than the lifetime of an inrush current situation. Most reactive components, i.e. the inductors and capacitors, in a large power supply like the Quad G5's only take few 10's of milliseconds to charge up, so the high draw subsides quickly.
    I'd also be surprised if your APC 1500XS doesn't have the same issue as I have since my guess is that APC builds a class of UPS with the same basic electronics on the input side and then just modifies the output side a bit along with the battery capacity. You can test whether you have this issue as well by putting the machine to sleep, pull the UPS's plug from the wall and then wake up the computer (if it doesn't wake due to the power being lost).

  • Help with Spry Rating Widget within a Spry Repeating Region

    My link  http://www.youthinkyougotitbad.com
    This is a long question, but it seems to me if answered somewhere it could help alot of people in the spry community creating comment boards as it uses three important spry widgets: rating, repeating, and tabbed panels. I am trying to use spry rating widget within a spry repeating region within a spry tabbed panel with xml. I was trying to go with the pulse light script (http://forums.adobe.com/message/3831721#3831721) but Gramps told me about the spry rating widget. But I have ran into a couple more problems. First, I couldnt find that much information on the forums or online about how to do the php page with the spry rating widget. None of these have any information on how to do it:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/rating_overview/index .html
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/data_api/apis/rating. html
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/rating/RatingSample.ht ml
    And it seems that the official examples are so poor (or I am just ignorant, which def could be a possiblity) it shows
    to set the initial rating value from the server, but uses a static value of 4
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/rating/RatingSample.html
    <span id="initialValue_dynamic" class="ratingContainer">
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
             <input id="spryrating1_val" type="text" name="spryrating1" value="4" readonly="readonly" />
             <span class="ratingRatedMsg sample">Thanks for your rating!</span>
    </span>
    <script>
    var initialValue_dynamic = new Spry.Widget.Rating("initialValue_dynamic", {ratingValueElement:'spryrating1_val'});
    </script>
    I finally found a site that has the php and mysql setup.
    http://www.pixelplant.ro/en/articles/article-detail/article/adobe-widgets-for-download.htm l
    But its not perfect. It has the same problem that I ran into with Pulse light, that you had to use php echo within the spry repeating region to set the initial value from the server:
    <span id="spryrating1" class="ratingContainer">
             <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <input type="text" id="ratingValue" name="dynamic_rate" value="<?php echo $row['average']?>"/>
            </span>
            <script type="text/javascript"
                var rating1 = new Spry.Widget.Rating("spryrating1", {ratingValueElement:'ratingValue', afterRating:'serverValue', saveUrl: 'save.php?id=spryrating1&val=@@ratingValue@@'});
            </script>
    So instead, I tried with three of my panels (www.youthinkyougotitbad.com) to get the average rating from xml by using the following queries:
    Recent
    Returns the blurts in most recent order along with average rating
    SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC
    Wet Eyed
    Returns the blurts in highest ratings order along with the average rating
    SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt, DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt AND ratings.rating_value > 0.1 Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY average_r Desc
    Dry Eyed
    Returns the blurts in lowest rating order along with the average rating
    SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt, DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt AND ratings.rating_value > 0.1 Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY average_r
    These all return the correct xml in the correct order.And they return the average rating of each blurt which I can send to my page with xml.
    My first question is that I dont know how to configure the query on my fourth panel Empathized & Advised the same way because it already has a Group By for the Comment Id.
    SELECT `Comment`.id_Blurt, COUNT(*) as frequency, Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt, DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date FROM Blurt, `Comment` WHERE Blurt.Id_blurt = `Comment`.id_Blurt GROUP BY `Comment`.id_Blurt ORDER BY COUNT(*) DESC";
    Not sure if you guys need more information to understand that all, if so just ask.
    So after I get my average value through xml to the first three panels, I set my spry repeating region up like this:
    (Blurt panel)
    <div spry:region="pv1" spry:repeatchildren="pv1">
               <div class="blurtbox">
                <!--  most recent blurt tab-->
                <h3> "{pv1::Blurt}"</h3>
                <p> Blurted from {pv1::Location} at {pv1::Date}</p>
                <p>Empathize or Advise about {pv1::Name}'s Blurt #<a href="detailblurt.php?blurtid={pv1::Id_blurt}"> {pv1::Id_blurt}</a></a></p>
               <span id="{pv1::Id_blurt}" class="ratingContainer">
                <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <span class="ratingButton"></span>
                <span class="ratingRatedMsg">Thank You! Your tears have been tallied.</span>
                <input type="text" id="ratingValue" name="dynamic_rate" value="{pv1::average_r}"/>
            </span>
            <script type="text/javascript">
                // overview of available options and their values:
                // http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/articles/rating_overview/index.html
                var rating1 = new Spry.Widget.Rating("{pv1::Id_blurt}", {ratingValueElement:'ratingValue', afterRating:'serverValue', saveUrl: 'save.php?id={pv1::Id_blurt}&val=@@ratingValue@@'});
            </script>
                 <br/>
               </div>
              </div>
    Ok, it registers the right vote in the database with the right blurt id each time. But I am having two problems so far:
    One, even though {pv1::average_r} returns the correct average through xml, it doesn't show the initial rating value for each of the repeating blurts. It seems to show the first one correct, and then just repeat that same value to the other ones that follow. I just dont understand since it can get the correct server value right after you vote (afterRating:'serverValue), that I can't manipulate spryrating.js in some way that I could just replace 'ratingValue' in ratingValueElement:'ratingValue' with something to give me the initial server value.
    Two: Is even more mysterious to me, if you play around with voting on the site, sometimes you are unable to vote on different blurts. Its weird. It seems like that the javascript is completely off just on those blurts. And sometimes its a whole row, sometimes none. But so far its never a problem on the first tabbed panel (Recent), only on the other three. As far as I know, the coding is exactly the same in each tab's repeating region except for the different xml input.
    And, now on the live server, sometimes the pics of tears used to voting dont show up until you click.
    Any help on those three questions (how to query the fourth panel, how to show the initial server value, and the glitches with voting) would be greatly appreciated!! I looked pretty hard on adobe forums and other sites, and didnt see much on how to really use the spry rating widget with php and xml.
    Thanks!!

    Update:
    Ok, the first query on the Recent tab doesnt work for me because it wont show unless its already voted, and since these are supposed to be new blurts, that kind of breaks the whole site:
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
    So I replaced it with what I originally had.
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date FROM Blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
    But this doesn't provide me with the initial average rating:(

  • Safe Output Rating for 240V USB adapter to charge my IPod Touch4.

    Is it safe to use a 240V USB adapter I have for my camera that has an Output rating of 4.4V  400mA to charge my new IPod Touch4?  I note that similar comercial (non Apple) products that claim to be compatible with the IPod Touch4 have a rating of 5V 1A.  I would be grateful for any advice on this subject.

    I have to say that the likelyhood anyone being able to "confirm" almost anything on a public forum is remote.
    I can tell you though;
    a lower voltage than the one required will not damage an iPod. However, a lower voltage may not provide enough "energy" (voltage potential, or EMF) to push the current around the circuit. So it wouldn't work.
    A higher voltage than the one required could possibly burn the electronics inside the iPod. One completely broken iPod.
    A charger that does not provide enough current may either charge slowly or not at all. I still believe 400mA is not enough, especially if it has a low output voltage as well.
    The iPod should draw only the current it requires, so one that supplies more than enough current will not damage it. However, personally, I would not use a charger that supplied (for example) 2400mA, with an iPod.
    Considering the cost of your iPod, isn't it wiser to spend a little money now, on either an Apple charger or at the very least, a proper 5 volt USB charger that supplies more than enough current (the mA), rather than coughing up for a new iPod because the charger you used damaged the iPod?
    Actually, two questions you can answer, which might help.
    What make is this camera charger anyway?
    Does it have a recognised (proper) USB output connection?
    You say that you have three opposing views. In fact, all three of us are effectively saying don't use this charger. Perhaps we have confused you by trying to explain it.

  • Water Damaged Keybord circuit only, can i replace it? 8900 no warranty :(

    Hi, I was splashed with water and my 8900 got wet while inside of the rubber cover, which traped the water.
    I let it dry for 4 days desassembled, when I turned it back on, operating systems works fine but the enter key is the only thing that works on the keyboard..... all others including the track ball are fried.
    Is there a way I can replace the keybord circuit portion? I am not an eletronics engineer.
    My other option is to cancel my plan with T-mobile as I refuse to extend by 2 years my plan, as a principle, to get 100 dollars off a new phone that is not even 1/2 as good as this one.
    Besides the coverage in my area sucks.
    I looked online for refurbished one and they are around 300 dollars, I am looking to find out if the keyboard circuit can be fixed for a fraction of that, and fast.

    You can try

  • Justify Security on a point to point circuit

    Hello Everyone,
    on a point to point curcuit from the Telco is there justification for putting in a firewall and IDS/IPS? Telco is saying "No" but I'm not so sure. Opinions?
    All replies rated! Thanks in advance!

    Well, first of all I'm assuming that the curcuit is to support a connection to another network in your administrative domain (i.e. another one of your companies offices).
    It depends on your requirements(including those that come from regulations/expectations/auditors/etc). What kind of traffic will go over the circuit(i.e. how sensitive is it)? Is is already encrypted (depending on where this happens, it can make IDS/IPS superfluous)? I'm not aware of any regulations that specifically require a firewall and/or IDS/IPS or even encryption of sensitive data on "private" networks like frame-relay and point-to-point.
    However, if you're in the Pharmaceutical business and you have trade secrets you want to protect, you'd probably at least encrypt (ipsec, whatever) and maybe use IDS/IPS and a firewall. A bank might do the same. If you're selling toys and use the link to upload inventory, then you might not.
    IMHO, you should assume that your service provider CAN and regularly DOES see your traffic. That's a problem best solved by encryption, not firewall/IDS/IPS.

  • Simple LED Circuit Simulation problem?

    Hello, and I recently started to use Multisim so that I can design circuits using schematics and then trying them out on the protoboard. However something is confusing me from the simulation.
    So on a real protoboard with 5V and a 330 ohm resistor and ground, I can connect a green LED and it will turn on. Obviously if I take out the resistor my led will burn out and it won't work anymore.
    On Multisim, If I add a 5V VCC, a green LED and ground (no resistor), and when i start the simulator, it turns on. I'd expect the LED to be off since a direct voltage of 5V is not supported for an LED.
    Is the simulator suppose to behave this way or how will I be able to tell if some circuits got burned?

    I do not know how Multisim's LED is modeled. Many models do not include "burn out" factors. Since diodes have exponential current-voltage relationships, you may find that the LED is drawing several amperes at 5 V.
    Most simulation models work well when the devices are operated within their normal ranges but may not be at all realistic when outside those ranges.  For example some op amp models can produce output voltages far in excess of the power supply voltages, which real physical circuits cannot do.  It is important to determine the limitations of the models when evaluating the quality of a simulation.
    In many cases the only way to detect burnout is to calculate the power dissipated in the device and compare that to its rating.

  • Timestep Too Small Error (12ax7 circuit)

    Hi, I've just started using multisim 8 to simulate Vacuum Tube circuits and am having trouble. Everytime I build a preamp circuit using a 12ax7 or similar tube and hit "simulate"; I get an error "timestep too small.....". Then the simulation stops. I've tried changing the timestep options in transient analysis instruments options. If I change the maximum timestep to a higher value, the simulation starts but just keeps running and I get no results with the oscilloscope I have on the outputs of the preamp tube circuit. All other analog and digital simulations I've tried work perfectly without having to change any of the default values for the transient analysis instrument options. I cannot understand what the problem is. My computer is a AMD 64 bit 3.4 ghz with 512 megs of ram, 280 gig hard drive, etc. I'm not using 64 bit windows xp, I'm using 32 bit windows xp professional. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has had any luck simulating 12ax7 or similar circuits, please send me a reply or the saved file to see if that works. I've been looking for any tube preamp circuits to download for multisim but haven't been able to find any. Thanks!

    I like to give an (general) answer to the common questions regarding "Time Step to small" and convergence problems in Multisim.
    SPICE takes a text netlist describing the circuit elements (transistors, resistors, capacitors, etc.) and their connections, and translate this description into equations to be solved. The general equations produced are nonlinear differential algebraic equations which are solved using implicit integration methods, Newton's method and sparse matrix techniques.
    To cut a long story short: If Multisim displays a "Time Step to small" or similar message, it only means that SPICE can't find a mathematical solution to the given circuit. Even if your circuit looks real, it is possible that through ideal models (e.g. don't take 'real' parasitic effects into account), ideal sources (e.g. high rise and fall time for a clock source) it doesn't behave like in reality. "Playing" around with your circuit (e.g. changing resistor values etc.) may or may not solve the problem. But as a rule of thumb, it is always recommended to match the components to their real counterparts.
    A good approach to overcome convergence problems is to understand more about the SPICE Engine Options. They define what is rated as a "good" solution and what will become a "Time Step to small" or similar error. You can find the settings for the SPICE Options in the Analysis tab (part of setup for all analysis and the Interactive Simulation Settings for instruments).
    Steps to solve "Time Step to small"
    Change RELTOL to 0.01% (Relative Error Tolerance)
    Change METHOD to "trapezodial" (Integration method)
    Change ITL4 to 100 (Upper transient iteration limit)
    Please consult Multisim's online help for further assistance on convergence problems and SPICE options.
    A great online resource are the SPICE Simulation Fundamentals on ni.com.

  • The maximum continuous total current on 9477 is 20A, but can I push it to 30A for 50ms?

    The title says it all I suppose.  I am driving 32 loads at under 1A each on each of the 32 outputs of the 9477.  Not all the loads are on at one time, and each pulse is only about 50ms long.  It might happen (but improbable) that all 32 outputs need to turn on simultaneously, thus pushing the current well above the rated 20A, but only for a very short time.
    Is this ok?  I accept the answers 'yes' or 'yes, but....'

    The specifications do not say how the current limit is implemented, but my guess is that it is something like what you describe. There is probably also a limit due to the switching device on each channel but your 750 mA loads take that out of the picture.
    It might survive that kind of operation but NI probably will not honor any warranty if that kills the module.  A rather expensive test.

  • Can the M Series PCI 6221 control 24 VDC solenoid valves like the NI 9477?

    Hi,
    I am working on a project where three solenoid valves requiring 24 VDC and 8 Watts must be controlled by a PCI 6221 multifunction DAQ.
    I read on the NI website that an external power supply and the NI 9477 can be used together to actuate solenoid valves.  Since I already have the PCI 6221,
    I was wondering if an external power supply would allow the PCI 6221 to power the valves.
    Sincerely,
    Tristram Jordan

    Hey,
    Is there any way to control solenoid valves using the PCI 6221 DAQ card? Is it possible for the DAQ card to control a driver circuit for the valves?
    If there isn't an alternate way to control the valves, which DAQ do you recommend purchasing to control 3 solenoid valves and a pressure transducer?
    I am not familiar with the compactDAQ. Does the digital output module need to connect to a DAQ card within the computer? If not, how does it communicate with the computer?
    Sincerely,
    Tristram Jordan

  • Short Circuit on Inductor

    Hi..
    I have a simple query. How does Multisim behave to a short circuit? I take a DC source connected to an inductor. When I make it short, it should show me a msg like "The inductor gets burnt" or something like that. In stead, it shows a straignt line in an oscilloscope.
    I can't prove this thory in Multisim, "A short circuit is an accidental low-resistance connection between two nodes of an electrical circuit that are meant to be at different voltages. This results in an excessive electric current (overcurrent) limited only by the Thevenin equivalent resistance of the rest of the network and potentially causes circuit damage, overheating, fire or explosion."
    I shall be glad to receive the exact solution.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Do not know if this will help, but there are components in the database in BASIC>RATED VIRTUAL. that actually simulate being "blown" by excessive current or voltage.
    Another option would be to have two simulator circuits on screen at the same time. One with the fault and one without it. Hook Multisimeter/O-scopes to both circuits to demonstrate how the fault effects the voltages/currents in the circuit.
    Multisim usually does not scream at you when a short occurs as most voltage sources are idea and really not affected  by shorting across them. The ideal sources can handle the current within the simulator without "blowing" so to speak. I know this isn't what happens in reality, but everyone needs to keep this in mind when designing a circuit. Always be sure of the current draw from the source and wheither the "real" source can handle it as well as well as the "real" components in that circuit.
    One other point. I notice you said you were using an inductor. All of Multisim inductors are ideal and have no internal resistance. Therefore, in a DC circuit they would only be a intial impedence there as the voltage was switched from  0VDC to 12VDC and then it would act as a short anyway. They are pure reactance only and this means that only in an AC Circuit would they display resistive properties. In order to model the DC resistance of an inductor in MS you have to have a series resistor tied to it.
    I agree with you that there should be some type of warning that a short is occuring in the spreadsheet or somewhere.
    I hope some of my ramblings have helped here.

    Here's the short-cut solution:
    Green Apple tracks are MIDI files (so to speak). If you drag one from the loop browser (Capitol C Orchestral hit, as you mentioned in this exable) directly into the arrange page it creates the MIDI file and the instrument to play it back on.
    HOWEVER.If you create and audio track first, THEN drag the green Apple loop onto that track, the loop will get "bounced" with the reverb in tact and you'll have the exact sound that you heard in the preview.
    Make sense?
