NI Developer Suite 8.2 / LV Runtime Engine 8.2 vs 7.1.1

I have NI Developer Suite 8.2 and have installed LabVIEW v8.2 from it onto my development computer.  I have converted a LabVIEW 6.1 application to 8.2 and am now setting up an installer build for the application.
When setting up installer build properties, I find NI LabVIEW 7.1.1 Runtime Engine, NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.0.1, and NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.2 listed as additional installers that can be included in the build.
Wanting to use the latest and greatest for my application, I have selected Run-Time Engine 8.2 for inclusion in the installer.
Upon testing the installer, I find Runtime Engine 7.1.1 installed, not 8.2.
I checked the development computer (Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs->National Instruments Software) and found only Runtime Engine 7.1.1 installed. I then uninstalled LabVIEW 8.2 and reinstalled it, hoping to be able to specify which runtime engine to install, but there is no option in the installation process for runtime engines.
My question is: what happened to runtime engine 8.2? Why can't I get it installed on my development computer? If it doesn't exist, why is it listed in the installer build properties as an installer that can be included? Is it vaporware?

Hi Igk,
On your development machine, the LabVIEW RTE 8.x will not appear in Add/Remove Programs because it is an invisible MSI Installer.  The installer is invisible because other applications (LabVIEW Development environment, for example) are dependent on the RTE.  Uninstalling the RTE would cause problems for all the other programs with dependencies, so the option to remove it is not there.  If you uninstall all the programs that depend on the RTE, the RTE will be uninstalled with the last program.  You can see in the attached image that I don't have LV RTE 8.0, or 8.0.1, or 8.2 in Add/Remove Programs, but it is listed in MAX Software.
If you run this LV installer on a clean PC(without the LV development environment), I havn't tested for sure, but because the application installed depends on the RTE, the RTE still probably won't show up in Add/Remove Programs (but your application will).  You can verify the RTE's existance by checking the <Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Run-Time\8.2> directory and verifying the lvrt.dll version is 8.20.x.xxxx.  Also, when the application runs, you will know the RTE exists.  Also as TonP mentioned, you can use MAX to verify its installation.
As a side note, I would generally avoid running LV built installers on a development machine that already has LV.  Installing the RTE (or any other NI installer) from a LV custom installer will change its installation source stored in the registry from the LV CD where it was originally installed from to the installer that you built.  Future repairs of the RTE will then look for this custom installer rather than the original source.  If that installer disappears or changes, repairs or uninstalls become more difficult.  I usually set up a test machine to test my LV built installers.
Cheers,
Spex

  • How do I determine if a VI is running in the runtime engine or LabView Development Environment?

Is there a function or VI that I can call that will tell me if the program is running in the LabVIEW Runtime Engine or if it is running in the LabVIEW developement Environment?  I am using LabView 8.5.
I have a menu item, File/Exit,  and I would like to call the Exit LabVIEW vi if running in the runtime engine when that item is selected.  However, in development, I don't want to shut down LabVIEW when I select that menu item.
Maybe there is a more appropriate way to exit the program.  However, I am looking for something elegant.  I'm sure I could find some other way to accomplish the same thing, but I'm looking for a clean way to do it.
    Thanks

Here is a small VI with this exact function.

  • LabVIEW Run-Time Engine in Developer Suite DVDs

    Hi!
I need to install the Labview Run-Time Engine on a PC.
Where can I find it on my Developer Suite DVDs?
(I'd like to avoid downloading LV RTE from NI website)
Thanks in advance for any help,

  • Labview runtime engine plugin problem in Mac OS X

    Hi:
We have just recently acquired a macBook Pro and am trying to test some instrumentation modules we have previously developed online for Circuit Theory courses on the MAc platform.
These VI's are installed on lab view server and we have no difficulty accessing them in Windows XP or Vista from a browser either Firefox or IE. Of course the latest version of runtime engine is installed on the pc prior to accessing the vi using remote panel and secondly we have to disable any virus protection software.
I have also installed the 8.5 version of LV runtime engine on the macbook with Leopard 10.5.x OS. I can see the LV plugin with the proper version in the Installed plug in check for the Safari browser. But every time the Remote panel is accessed I get a missing plugin message.
    Here is the message:
Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in.
The page “Blackboard Academic Suite” has content of MIME type “application/x-labviewrpvi82”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page:
    http://digital.ni.com/express.nsf/express?openagent&code=exck2m&
Do you want to open the page?
The page it suggests is the NI site for the plugin download?
I am really in a corner and donot know what I am doing is wrong? Any help will be appreciated?
    Vishnu

I'm not a Mac expert, but it sounds like you are missing the LabVIEW Browser Plugin which is necessary to view remote front panels.  That plugin installs with the LabVIEW runtime engine which you can find here.  I don't think Safari requires any extra configuration to work with the plugin but it might... let us know if installing the runtime engine doesn't resolve the problem.

  • Running the 6.1 Runtime Engine with 2009 Installed

I have 2009 Developer's Suite LabVIEW installed and am using it regularly.  I recently obtained some executables which only run under the 6.1 Runtime Engine.  I have downloaded the 6.1 RTE, but have not installed it.  Do you think that installation of the 6.1 RTE will have any adverse effects on my 2009 installation?  I do not want to install LabVIEW 6.1, just the RTE.
    Solved!

As long as the program doesn't need other "drivers" such as earlier DAQ it should be ok, although usually it is a very good idea to install in the "original order" i.e., 6.x then 2009. I have RTE for several versions installed at the moment, but they were incrementally installed over the last couple of years.

I am not quite sure what either of you are after, but if you hit the "Documentation" link on OTN you will find the documentation, such as the above list, for almost all of Oracle products. Most are available online in HTML format or PDF and some have a part number so that they can be ordered.
The 10g Developer Suite Documentation is here: http://otn.oracle.com/documentation/dev10g.html

  • Error -17600 when switching from LabVIEW Development System to LabVIEW Run-Time Engine in Adapter Configuration

I receive an error message (code -17600) while loading my test sequence after switching from LabVIEW Development System (2009 f3) to LabVIEW Run-TIme Engine using the Adapter Configuration.
    ErrorCode: -17600,
Failed to load a required step's associated module.
    LabVIEW Run-Time Engine version 9.0.1f3.
When I switch back to the LV development system, everything is OK, and the sequence loads and runs perfectly.
My TestStand Engine Version is 2012 f1 (5.0.0.262).
I'd appreciate any help on this issue.
    Roman

    Hi Roman,
There are a couple of things you can try:
    1) Determine if the LabVIEW RunTime Engine is corrupted in some way. Create a new simple VI with no sub-VIs, using the same LabVIEW Development system you used for mass-compiling the VIs. Create a TestStand step that calls this VI and ensure it runs correctly. Now switch your LabVIEW adapter to use the RuntimeEngine and choose the "Auto detect using VI version" option.
Check if the simple VI is loadable and runs without errors in TestStand.
If the step generates the same error, you should try a re-install of the LabVIEW development system.
If not, its most likely that there is some VI you are using that is not loadable in the LabVIEW Runtime Engine because:
    1) Some sub-VI is still not saved in the right version or bitness. Open the VI heirarchy of the top-level VI that you are calling from TestStand and examine the paths of all the sub-VIs to check if they were in the folder you masscompiled and re-save any that are outside this directory.
Also, when you try to close the top level VI, do you get a prompt to save any unsaved files? If so, they could be the sub-VIs that are not saved in the right version. Save all of them.
Check if you are loading any VIs programatically and if these are compiled and saved in the right version as well.
    2) There is some feature you are using in your LabVIEW code that is not supported in the LabVIEW RunTime Engine. To check this, add your top-level VI to a LabVIEW project and create a new build specification and create a new executable from this VI.
Right-click "Build Specifications" and choose "New->Application(EXE)".
In the Application Properties window, select Source Files and choose the top level VI as the start-up VI.
        Save the properties.
Right-click on the newly created build specification and choose Build.
Run this executable (it will be run using the LabVIEW RunTime) and check if the VI has a broken arrow indicating that it cannot be loaded and run in the LabVIEW Runtime Engine.
You might need to examine your code and find the feature which is not supported in the LabVIEW RunTime and find an alternative.
Another thing i forgot to mention the last time around is if you are using 64-bit LabVIEW with 32-bit TestStand, then executing code using LabVIEW RTE from TestStand will not work since the 64-bit LabVIEW RTE dll cannot be loaded by the 32-bit TestStand process.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, consider sharing your LabVIEW code so i can take a look.
    Regards,
    TRJ

  • How to call a report from form in developer suite 10g

i want to call report from a form that is developed in Builder 10g. Reprot is also built in Reports Builder 10g. I now want to run report through form. Please give me any solution.

I am finding that this document is unhelpful also with respect to running a form which calls the report in the testing environment of Oracle Developer Suite. I have Googled for forms integration with reporting and most refer to this document, but it does not help.
I have download and used the "run_report_object_doc" procedure they provided, along with a supporting function. And used that.
This document indicates that if the sever is not specified then it will use the in-process server. This does not happen. When I do not specify the server I get the notorious "FRM-41211: Integration error: SSL failure running another product." I suspected that the in-process server is not getting called.
When I look through the rwservlet.properties file I find that the servlet is configured with in=process "yes". I have since changed this file so that a server is actually named. I called it "local".
This time a local.conf file is created, not a rep_local.conf file as indicated in the documentation. Anyhow when I try the form again I get the same FRM-41211 message.
Alternatively, I have change the report invocation parameters to supply a server name "local". This time I no longer get the FRM-41211 message. I get the error FRM-41214: Unable to run report.
When I use the servlet to get information, I get (can anyone see any setting that is a problem?):

  • Running more than one report at a time using Developer Suite 10g(10.2.1.0)

    Hi all,
We are using the Developer suite 10g(10.2.1.0). I'm finding it exciting to work with it. I'm facing the problem with report server. For example I'm trying to run two reports at a time from two different locations, the report server starts working on first report and the second report will be in queue. In 6i it was not the case. so i need such a scenario. where in the two users can take the reports concurrently instead of this FIFO method.

    Hello,
By default, the reports server is configured with 2 kinds of engines :
The default reports engine and the "URL engine" :
For more details about the "URL engine " :
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_17/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_conf.htm#i1007633
    3.5 Configuring the URL Engine
    Thie "URL engine" has a minEngine=0 and maxIdle=30 :
    <engine id="rwURLEng" class="oracle.reports.urlengine.URLEngineImpl" initEngine="1" maxEngine="1" minEngine="0" engLife="50" maxIdle="30" callbackTimeOut="60000"/>
It means that if the "URL engine" is not used, it will be stopped after 30 minutes.
That's why you can see 2 engines just after having started the reports server and only 1 engine 30 minutes later

  • How to deploy and run of a mapping created in owb in developer suite

Hello, could you please help me to check where is wrong?
I use WAREHOUSE BUILDER of ORACLE 9I DEVELOPER SUITE and I do it as below:
    1, create a OWB REPOSITORY named "OWB" with WAREHOUSE REPOSITORY Assistant in the SUITE ;
    2, create a OWB Runtime REPOSITORY named "OWB1" with WAREHOUSE Runtime Assistant in the SUITE;
(i wonder why not to ask me to create a connected user and target schema like in OWB product alone?)
    3, open OWB CLIENT and create a new project named TESTPROJECT;
4, create a source module and a target module.
5, create a simple mapping, which is the field link between two tables which
have the same structure(i swear that any vertified error will not occur).
6, select this mapping and choose Generate in the menu of "module". Then select
"Generate Script" in the window of Generation mode, Then select Deploy in
the window of RESULT Generation Window after altering the tab of Mapping, and fill in the user information
which is the same as OWB Runtime Assistant. After select Creation button in the
window of data-base deploy, it shows the error that "table or view do not
    exist".
I don't know where is wrong or this error means? And how to solve it?
    Is there anybody help me?
and what the diffence on earth between the OWB in the DEVELOPER SUITE and the one as a single product?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

could you please help me to check where is wrong?

  • How do CVI7.0 runtime engine and TestStand3.0 runtime engine work in a test system?

I developed code modules from CVI 7.0, and test sequence from TestStand 3.0. Now I want to deploy all to a test system. Should I create distribution kits for CVI and TestStand, and install to a target PC? Do each kit include the RTE? How do the runtime engine work in a system?

    hp7550,
I saw your post earlier entitled "what is a run-time engine?". It looks like this post is addressing the same issue.
To answer your questions, it is not necessary to create a distribution kit for your CVI code modules. You can simply install the CVI Run-time Engine, which you can find if you go to www.ni.com and click on the Drivers and Updates link on the left-hand side.
Then you will need to deploy your TestStand system using Tools >> Deploy TestStand System in the Sequence Editor. That tool will go out and gather all the CVI code modules your sequence calls - unless you are calling a DLL or something dynamically inside of a code module; in which case, you need to add that dynamically called DLL (or code module) to your TestStand workspace.
To install the TestStand Run-time Engine, make sure the Install TestStand Engine option is checked on the Installer Options tab of the deployment utility. You can customize what gets installed with the engine by clicking on the Engine Options.
For more information on deployment, see Chapter 14 of the TestStand Reference manual (Help >> Search the TestStand Bookshelf...).
To answer your last question a run-time engine simply gives you access to the compiled code that corresponds to the functions you used from the CVI or TestStand libraries during development.
    I hope that helps.

    Hello,
have you installed the database 10.1.2 AFTER developer suite 10.1.2. ?
In this case, the problem may be the PATH
You can use a BAT file to set the PATH :
    example:
    title ODS 10.1.2
    set ORACLE_HOME=e:\oracle\ods1012
    set CLASSPATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\jlib\bigraphbean.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%\jlib\LW_PfjBean.jar;%ORACLE_HOME%\jlib\bigraphbean-nls.zip;%ORACLE_HOME%\reports\jlib\rwrun.jar
    set PATH=e:\oracle\ods1012\bin;e:\oracle\ods1012\jdk\jre\bin;e:\oracle\ods1012\jdk\jre\bin\classic;e:\oracle\ods1012\jdk\jre\bin\classic;e:\oracle\ods1012\jlib;e:\oracle\ods1012\jdk\bin;c:\winnt;c:\winnt\system32
    E:
    cd \oracle\ods1012\bin
For the standalone OC4J , you can add a line:
    set PATH=..
    in the bat file startinst.bat

  • Using Oracle Developer Suite 10g Without the Oracle Database

I have never used Oracle, but have used MS SQL Server 7. I need to learn Forms. An Oracle salesperson suggested I download Oracle Developer Suite 10g (the demo product). It includes the Oracle Developer Suite (with Forms Developer), and many other programs.
The salesperson said it includes a database server, but I suspect it does not. I only downloaded the package last night, and have begun to skim the documentation, but I see nothing that looks like a database server.
In SQL Server 7, the database engine is run as a service and you create and manage your tables (do all the database admin stuff) using SQL Enterprise Manager.
So, does this package include a database engine/server? Or must you also have the Oracle Database?
I don't see a demo version of the Oracle Database - is there one?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
The Developer Suite does not contain a demo version of the Oracle Database.
You can download the database from this page:

  • What is needed to run a .llb file using a runtime engine?

I would like to run a .llb file on a computer that doesn't have LabVIEW installed. Is that possible? If so, what is needed to do that? I have tried to install a runtime engine, but can't get it to work. The .llb file is currently running on LabVIEW version 6.0 on another computer, but I don't know with what version of LabVIEW the .llb file was created. The computer on which I would like to run the .llb file has Windows XP.
    Thank you for any help!

    Mathan wrote:
You have to create an executable with the help of project explorer.
The user has LabVIEW 6 (as he noted in the original message). LabVIEW 6 has no project explorer.
To OP: I am assuming the LLB contains a top-level VI that can be run. Otherwise, this is a moot question. If you want to open the VI and view it, then you need the development version on the target machine. If you want to run the top-level VI in the LLB then you must create an application that you can copy over to the other computer. The other computer requires the LabVIEW Runtime Engine in order to run the executable.  To build the application you need the Application Builder. This is a separate product from LabVIEW, but was included with certain LabVIEW editions.. If you do not see a menu option for building the application then you do not have the Application Builder. You would need to contact your local NI sales office to see if you can still buy a copy. I doubt you will be able to, but it's worth a try.
EDIT: Sorry for the duplicate info. I got sidetracked while composing the message, and did not see the additional responses from Dennis.
