NI PCI-1424 used to grab TFT LCD Signals

Can the NI  PCI-1424  parallel digital frame grabber be used
to capture the an image from the siganal used to drive standard TFT LCD
panels?  The LCD panel that I have has 6 digital bits per RGB, a
vertical and horizontal sync, and a pixel clock at 40Mhz.  I want
to use this to automate the testing of the LCD driver signals. 
Currenly we have a person verify the image on the LCD screen.

Hello niklander,
While the NI PCI-1424 card does support RS422, TTL, and LVDS standard video formats, it can only support a pixel clock rate up to 50 MHz.  National Instruments does not currently manufacture any Vision hardware that supports TTL or SVDS standard video formats and pixel clock rates greater than 50 MHz.  For more information on our Vision hardware products, please browse the NI Vision Hardware website.
National Instruments does, however, produce a line of high-speed LVDS Digital Instruments that can support maximum clock rates up to 200 MHz.  You may want to consider one of these high-speed instruments, but please keep in mind that this high-speed product line is not designed for Vision applications.  If you choose to try an NI high-speed LVDS Digital Instrument, you may face significant development challenges when architecting your application.

    Thank you for contacting National Instruments!  To acquire images from the 1424 you will need NI IMAQ 2.5.1 or later.  This can be found HERE on our drivers download page.  One thing to note is that in LabVIEW 5 we only had the ability to view an IMAQ image as a pop up window.  This VI is called "IMAQ Windraw".  This will pop up a separate window that will display your picture.  If you need to view the picture on the front panel you can try saving the image as a file (BMP, JPG, etc) then use the LabVIEW Graphics and Sound VI's to Read a picture file in and then wire the picture to a picture control on the front panel.  Let me know if you have anymore questions.  Good Luck.

    - USB is similar to FireWire (IEEE 1394), and no framegrabber is required. We offer an IEEE 1394 IMAQ driver to interface FireWire cameras with LabVIEW & CVI.

    - You will need a USB driver for the camera. The 1424 is not required.

    I am attempting to grab frames from a DuncanTech camera using a PCI-1424. The vendor's software was developed in the LabVIEW, but I only have the executable and they seem unwilling to provide the source file(s) - essentially, the vendor software only displays the images (no capture capabilities). In the interests of time, I would like to locate/purchase a generic LabVIEW image acquisition front-end, if available.

    Your PCI-1424 card should include several examples. Check the directory where the software for the camera was installed (Usually "Program Files\National Instruments\NI-IMAQ")
    Also, if you have MAX (Measurement & Automation Explorer), you can access your card from there and snap images.
    Other than that, I think you have to write your own code or ask somebody to do it for you.

  • External TFT - LCD TV to MacBook

    Which cables do I need to connect a 17 inch TFT-LCD TV to my macbook. Or has anyone any advice on a monitor/television at a reasonable price that I could buy mainly to watch movies stored on the MacBook. Thank you in advance, any advice is most appreciated.

    Sounds like the TV is acting like a second independent monitor in extended Desktop mode, this allows you to set the resolutions to the best quality for each monitor separately. Use System Preferences: Displays: Arragement to enable Mirrored mode, which duplicates the displays on both monitors, expect one to look better than the other. You can drag the menu bar from one to the other and move the layout of the two monitors to match the physical orientation. To improve color quality, use the Color: Calibrate... option, this may improve your picture if you aren't satisfied with the default color profile for the tv.

  • The manufacture date of T400 WXGA TFT LCD monitor

    I ordered my new T400 in October, 2009, and recived almost three weeks later. Definitely, it took longer time than they promised me. Whatever, I got the laptop, finally.
    Now I have a question about the monitor. I used a software named EVEREST 5.30 (http://www.lavalys.com) to check the information of the hardware. Everything is okay except the monitor. It says the manufacture date is 45th week in 2006? Can you believe it, a monitor, potentially, made three years  ago for my new laptop???
    I called lenovo, and they told me the LCD factory is probably using the same date for all monitors of this kind no matter when they're made. Can you believe it?
    They didn't have such complain before. If I can find different case for T400 with same kind monitor, they will accept my complain. Am I responsible to prove that or lenovo's?
    Anyway, we can do that, right? Hey, all T400 people, it's time to show our power! What's your manufacture date of the WXGA TFT LCD monitor? I will appreciated if you can post your LCD manufacture data as well as when you bought you laptop!  Many thanks to everyone.

    My point is that even if the LCD sat for 15 years if it wasn't in use it wouldn't be prone to any more failures then one which is only a year from manufacture with the same amount of hours on it. 
    Though I don't have intimate knowledge of every laptop which Lenovo has manufactured but I have personally swapped a T61 15.4in widescreen into a T500 15.4in.
    It is probable what they are saying is that your laptop screen could not be that old because it is improable one would be in storage for that length.

  • Traditional TFT LCD of the N900 and the new SLCD !

    Can anyone here explain me is S-LCD the next generation of the TFT LCD does it offer a dramatic improvement in display ( I am not really looking out for a very technical explanation just need to know from a user perspective) is it great fun watching in SLCD compared to the traditional TFT LCD display that the N900 has. if yes, How much the difference between the TFT LCD of the N900 and SLCD would be ?

    OLED and SLCD do not define resolution.. you're wrong for thinking that.. They are types of displays.. OLED is not fixed to 800x480, SLCD is not fixed to 960x640.. Its like saying diesel engines are 2liter where as petrol engines are 1.5....
    OK.. The HTC Desire (and google Nexus one) originally shipped with OLED displays..
    Due to shortages of OLED panels, HTC decided to change the display type to the more commonly available LCD.. Now HTC Desires are LCD..
    However..
    The resolution is exactly the same.. they are both still 800x480.. The type of screen does NOT dictate the resolution of the screen..
    You could have a crud low resoltion 640x360 OLED screen on the Nokia N8, and a high res 800x480 LCD screen on the N900.. both are 3.5" screens!
    As for the difference in visual quality of OLED and LCD:
    OLED screens are tiny light bulbs.. each pixel produces its own light (actually multiple red, green blue lights per pixel)
    LCD, however works using filters.. There is a white light  behind the screen, and the LCD lets some of the light through coloured "holes".. That is the MAIN difference between LCD and OLED..
    All OLED displays work like this and all LCD displays work like this..
    So, because it is easier to make a filter of a certain colour, LCD screens can often produce more realistic colours..
    OLED displays however, have the ability to go completely dark.. Look a black screen on a LCD display (like your phone) it still glows.. thats because the LCD cannot filter out ALL of the white back light.. it just filters out most..
    OLEDs, however, when they are black they are OFF meaning they produce ZERO light!!
    LCDs range from blight to dim.. whereas OLED range from even brighter to totally black..
    This is called the contrast ratio..
    It also might mean OLED displays seem "saturated" the colours are too vibrant..
    Now, that's OLED v LCD
    Going back to your question in your second post..
    The Desire PS IPS LCD display (that's the S-LCD display if you want a brand name) is technically a lower definition because the pixels are larger when compared to the N900..
    The colour reproduction (how accurate the colours are) and the contrast ratios however will be BETTER than the N900 because the Desire can display 16Million colours rather than 65thousand.. and the LCD technology is a generation newer than that used in the N900...
    The N900 screen, although high resolution for its size, is fairly old tech..

  • IBM Thinkpad 1024x768 TFT LCD Panel

    I have an IBM Thinkpad A30 2652-44U - works great - except it only offers me the default monitor - how do I access the TFT LCD Panel - if I go into Display...settings...advanced....monitor...the LCD is listed but not highlighted ....just the default monitor....my graphics card is the ATI Radeon Mobility - not sure beyond that..if I knew I could possibly upgrade the drivers - Are there drivers for the monitor? If so, where does one download them - many thanks for all help

  • PCI-1424 Framegrabber

    Hi,
    We have several copies of PCI-1424 boards here at DRS. I was wondering if these boards will allow me to capture 32 signals and store them to the hardfile on the PC that the board is plugged into. The data is video but I don't want to display the video, I just want to store it. Also, I want the signals to be stored all the time, even during blanking intervals. I guess what I want is to get the PCI-1424 board to act like a digital aquisition card or super deep logic analyzer. Is this possible? If so, which application would be the easiest to use for this.

  • Signals in/out Control (0..3) and Enable (D..0) of PCI 1424

    Hellow!!
    How can I use the signal Control(0..3) and Enable(A..D) of PCI 1424 card. I have a DALSA 256 camera conected to my PCI 1424 and I need to generate a trigger and sense the frame enable signal to this camera.

    The Control(0...3) lines of the PCI 1424 card are used to set camera attributes such as shutter speed and frame rate through pulse trains. These lines aren't accessable in software, but are configured in each digital camera's camera file (.icd). Once it is configured as an attribute, the attribute can be set in the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) or in LabVIEW using the IMAQ Get/Set Camera Attribute VIs.
    The Enable(A...D) lines are used to input a camera's sync signals. For instance, on a typical area scan camera, Enable A is used for the Frame Enable and Enable B for the Line Enable. These lines are also inaccessable from a programming environment.

    I have a problem. I use IMAQdx grab.vi to capture image from camera usb. it has 30 fps. I want to get newest image, which camera acquired. but I realize that IMAQdx grab.vi copys sequent image out of buffer. I simulate a moving rectangle. then I use camera to positive object. I alway receive position of object from camera delay 3 frame.I expect it to delay 1 frame. I attached my program. I want to configure camera to grab the newest image.

    The cleanest way to accomplish what you are trying to do uses the low-level functions. The Get Image VI will automatically pull the next buffer available, but can also be configured to pull the most recently acquired buffer or any buffer of your choosing. You can see the function's context help for more details.
    Also, if you are unfamiliar with using the low-level functions there is a very good example in the example finder called "Low-Level Grab" in the IMAQdx section.

  • I'm using a viewsonic 19" LCD monitor with a powermac 7100/66.  The only resolution available in the monitor control panel is 640x480.  The viewsonic gives me a message to use 1440x900.  The mac specs state it's capable of 1152x870 @ 8 bit. Help!

    For unsupported resolutions, one may need to see if there are any software
    solutions; maybe the minimum specs of the display are not met by an 8-bit
    color specification of the video card in the computer.
    Does the display support two kinds of connections, another one, plus VGA?
    Could be the display needs some other support for it to work. Drivers?
    VRAM? A different control panel and (third-party) software?
    The limits may vary due to the VRAM on the card. With enough there, and
    with a VGA connection (or supported converter to/from older Mac DB-15)
    and the video graphics card with minimal supported specs will show that.
    Been several years since I've run any PowerMac, & only used a variety of
    Apple CRT color displays with them. Most times, they were very adequate.
    A wider array of original choices appeared in the Displays control panel...
    So I suspect the lack of video support in the graphics card or VRAM, to be
    a player in this resolution limit you see in the control panel. A later CPU/GPU
    and better hardware, later Mac OS, offered greater support for newer driver
    along with better results.
    There may not be a workable upgrade to a different graphic video card for
    that old a vintage computer; or if there was one, to locate that now may be
    a next-to-impossible mission. Was there any hints in the web site for older
    Macs, the LowEndMac site, or others? Some are no longer current sites.

    Can 12VDC be used for Limit and Home Signals for PCI 7334 using UMI-7764.
    Can the UMI 7764 be damaged if over voltage is supplied to it. If so can it be repaired or it has to replaced.

    Specifications for the Limit Switchs (home, forward, reverse, etc) is
    determined by the specifications of your NI motion controller PCI
    board. The UMI functions only as a pass through and breakout for the
    board .
    The valid limit swich voltage for the PCI-7334 is 0 - 5 V. You will have to divide down a 12 V input before running it to
    the UMI and to your board. The 3.3k pull up resistor is only used to
    pull floating voltages to TTL levels and does not protect for high
    voltage signals.
    Please note that the UMI-7774 provides optical isolation for limit switches and extended input levels (e. g. limit switch voltages: On = 3.5 to 30 V, Off = 0 to 2 V).

  • Can I input the single-ended image signal to PCI-1424?

    One of my customer wants to input the single-ended image signal to our PCI-1424 instead of the differential or TTL ones, is it impossible to do that ?I've check the user's manual and it only mentioned that the input signal can be DIFF or TTL-compatible.

    TTL signals are single-ended, so if the image signal follows TTL specifications, it will work with the 1424.

  • Why use FIFO to read analog signal?

    Why must we use FIFO to obtain analog signal from FPGA? I can use a normal method of calling the FPGA using Read/Write Control and the results in a waveform chart is much more smoother. 

    I've uploaded 2 real-time VIs with and without FIFO. MQ convert is the subVI in my computer. Do have a look at it...
