NI PXI/PCI-1428 base configuration

Hello,
I am using the NI PXI/PCI-1428 board. I am sending a camera link video (coming from an FPGA) to the frame grabber. I have been trying to create a custom camera with the camera file generator program, but it only gives me the medium configuration option. Therefore, when trying to acquire video, it gives me the 0xBFF60022 timeout error. It is because it is expecting video in medium configuration and i am sending it in base configuration.
The Ni 1428 board clearly supports base configuration.
Any clue?
Thank you

I suspect it has to do with your image size.  Try a smaller image.
You can also edit the file manually once created, using notepad.

  • PCI 1428 trigger specificaitons

Hi Everyone, I've searched the manual , data sheet and NI site and forums but I can't locate timing specifications for the PCI 1428 board external and internal trigger lines.
Does any one know the sample rate / timing resolutions / latencies of the external , internal and external->internal mapping of trigger lines?
    I.e.
What is the shortest software configurable internal trigger line pulse width? what is the max?
What is the shortest software configurable trigger delay? what is the max?
Same questions for the external trigger lines?
Also what is the latency and jitter for mapping of external TTL triggers to the internal pins? Is there sampling ? what is the sample rate? (this imposes a limit on minimum pulse time)
    Many thanks,
    Peter

    Hi nemi,
I've found a couple KnowledgeBase articles that seem related to this .  The first shows the steps to take to pulse the control lines in your frame grabber through the Camera File Generator: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/29FE0FC4D319F66D862572D0000D2F60
Double check that what you are doing corresponds to the steps in this article.
Then the second shows another way to do it - configure the output lines in MAX and then send it IMAQ commands in LabVIEW:  http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/4FC0695C6489E11C8625716A0024AF4D?OpenDocument
Let me know if these are helpful.
Thanks, I already tried the 1st approach with the camera generator and did not see any pulses on my OSC probing the CC line on the camera.
2nd approach is not possible/ has-me-stumped as the "Camera Control Lines Source" attributes on the  "Camera Attributes" tab do not exist (blank pane area) in my latest version of MAX (VAS_2014_02) with the PCI 1428 card.
Is this due to a setting in MAX thing ? a setting in the camera file? or a PCI 1428 specific omission?

  • Using a laptop for image acquisition in combination with PCI-1428/PCI-8252

I am not too confident about PCMCIA framegrabbers so that I would like to use either a cameralink camera with the PCI-1428 or a Firewire one with PCI-8252.
Are there any obstacles accommodating the PCI cards in an PCI Expansion box?

You could do it, but why? Just get a firewire card for the laptop and go direct. You can get them with external power supplies to power the camera. It will work just the same and you won't have to lug around a big box with all your other equipment.

  • MXI-4 PXI-PCI bridge

I tried to set MXI-4cd it but I have a message that says components are already set (NI-VISA...).
But I have basically a problem with MAX Explorer which does not recognize the PXI system.
In my PC, the first PCI-slot is devoted to a NI PCI-6052E card.
The second one is devoted to the PCI8331 card.
I think the problem comes from the communication between the PCI-8331 in the PCI-slot and the PXI-8331 in the PXI-1031 chassis (bridge).
But this one doesn't seem to be recognized.
    In MAX, there's just a device PCI-6052E in Traditional NI-DAQ-device or NI-DAQmx-device.
So if this card is not recognized, then the PXI system (that I powered on) cannot be recognized as well (PXI-1031 and its modules PXI-GPIB, PXI-7344, PXI-4204).
The communication must be wrong maybe because of the PCI-8331 which is not read from the PC? I wonder if the PCI-8331 in the 2nd slot at the moment should be set in the first slot instead of the PCI-6052E???
I tried the VISA option in MAX (show ALL PXI-PCI devices accessible to VISA instead of ONLY) and then to restart the system.
I tried as well to identify PXI as external PC or other (I can't load any PXI-1031 from CD: not a valid file), and to show PXI-buses: but PCI-6052E is shown?
Note: basically I think I can remove the PCI-6052E board (which we shouldn't use) since the Data acquisition can be down by the PXI-4204???
    Thanks for quick answer.
    Best regards

    Hello,
Check if your MXI-4 board show up correctly in the Windows Device Manager.
MXI-4 boards contain two distinct PCI functions onboard and will have two separate listings in the Windows Device Manager (WDM).
The first function will show up in the WDM listed under System devices as a PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge.
The second function listing in the WDM will show up as a MXI-4 Connection Monitor when the correct MXI-4 driver is installed.
If the MXI-4 software is not installed, the PCI-to-PCI function will still be detected and work correctly, but the MXI-4 Connection Monitor will be detected as an unknown device.
If MAX indicates that the MXI-4 connection has timed out, the MXI-4 card did not detect that it was connected to another MXI-4 card at power-up
time. This can occur if the host chassis is turned on before the expansion chassis, or if the MXI-4 cable is not plugged in properly. (see screnshot attached).
    Hpoe this helps.

  • Acquiring signal from PCI 1428 card

    Hi,
I'm new to labview and been tryig to acquire the trigger signal from the PCI 1428 card. Is there anyway to acquire the trigger signal internally without using an external cable (breakout cable)? Can labview acquire this signal without using the external DAQ card?

    Hello DjBiomed,
It may help if you can provide more information regarding your application.  What are you ultimately trying to do with this trigger signal?   With the 1428 trigger line, it needs to be wired to something (either externally or through RTSI).  LabVIEW cannot automatically detect this unless it is connected.  You can look at the trigger examples that come shipped with the driver in the LabVIEW Example Finder for a better understanding.  They can be found on the browse tab under Hardware Input and Output >> IMAQ >> Signal Input and Output.   I hope this helps.

  • PCI-1428 BIOS IRQ conflict on boot

My PCI-1428 board works fine in a Dell Diminsion 8600. Moved it to a new Dell Optiplex 780 and I get a bios error when I first turn on the computer saying there is an IRQ conflict. Is there any what to get this card to work in the Optiplex 780?

    Hi JoePar,
I found a good KnowledgeBase that explains
this issue. I think it might be helpful to look at it, and try what's suggested.
You also might want to contact your PC manufacturer to see if they have any
Bios updates or so for your PC.

  • Where To Download Base Configuration ISO(s) For Test Labs?

    Hi.
Is there somewhere that I can download an ISO for the base configuration for the Test Labs outlined here:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/1262.test-lab-guides.aspx#Base_Configuration_TLG
Or is it presumed that the reader of the Test Lab Guides will configure each machine themselves?  If so, why is this not communicated clearly in the Test Lab guides?

    Hi,
Test Lab Guides is to let you use less to learn a new technology, product or an entire multi-tier solution, TLG provides you with step-by-step instructions to create the Base Configuration test lab. You could build test labs based on other
TLGs from Microsoft and published in the TechNet Wiki, perform TLG extensions, or create a test lab of your own design that can include Microsoft or non-Microsoft products.

  • Will a PCI-1428 interface with a DAQ - PCI - 6534?

I have a Camera Link camera with a PCI 1428 card and was wondering if it will work with a DAQ PCI-6534. Thanks!

    Hello,
Both 1428 and 6534 have a Real Time Signal Interface (RTSI) connectors on them. Using this bus you can route signals (timing, triggering, etc.) between boards directly instead of going through the PCI bus. This will simplify your coding and improve reliability and performance of your application. You'll need a RTSI ribbon cable to connect two (or more) boards together.
    Hope this helps!

  • Pxi pci mac

I recently purchased the pxi-8362 pcie board to communicate with a PXI-1042Q module from a macintosh.  I'm running OS 10.6 on a fairly new mac pro.  I was told by the sales team at NI that the PCI and PCIe boards worked on macs, but I can't get mine to show up.  I have the latest NI-VISA installed, with the latest NI-DAQmx Base package installed.  When I run NIVisaic, I can see the PXI board, but that's the only place.  None of the modules connected to it (PXI-6289, 6052e,6711, or 8232) show up anywhere else.  Also, the PCI board doesn't even show up in the apple system profiler.  It seems like I don't have the proper drivers, but I can't find any, and of course the cd that came with it is just for windows.  Any suggestions on how to install this?  I came across something about the Driver Wizard in NI-VISA, but I haven't had any luck with what to do with that.  Thanks in advance!

A good resource for drivers is www.ni.com/drivers. From there you can find any driver you need. For instance, we can confirm that you have the DAQmxbase 3.4.5 that is specifically for Macs or download it if necessary. Additionally, the latest non-Beta NI-VISA for Macs is version 5.0 and is also available. This website is useful  for all NI drivers that you will need for your hardware.

  • PXIe 8133 Real Time Configuration Issue with MAX

I seem to be running to a weird problem in configuring a PXIe 8133 into an RT system. After I change it in bios to boot safe mode, MAX detects the system no problem through remote connection. When I try to change its IP (while the PXIe8133 is in Safe Mode), it does not allow me to do so. Specifically, the text on top of Network Settings Tab mentions that it cannot apply the settings. I also have tried reformating the RT, and uploading software. The format performs OK, but still the same problem with IP and communication. The software upload results in communication timeout.
I am not running any firewalls, etc. The link is direct cable between the host and the target (PXIe8133). I am running LV2010 RT on the host.
If I am missing a simple step in getting through this obstacle, please let me know. Any suggestions are apreciated. Thanks in advance.
    Peter

    Hello,
Just wondering are you using DHCP or static IP addressing? If you are using static IP, ensure you have all the fields on the 'Network Settings Tab' populated including the Gateway and DNS server. Both fields can be populated with the address 0.0.0.0. Hope this helps.
