NI Requirements Gateway 2012 and Excel

Hi,
Just a short question. I have an excel file wich is saved as .xml. I would like to use it in NI-RG 2012.
Only .xls and .xlsx were supported.
I there a posibility to use my .xml file

Hi Juergen,
Unfortunately there is no built-in type to parse .xml excel files, only the .xls and .xlsx files are supported, as you mentioned. However, you could create a custom XML type to read this data. To do so, open the Types tab in the configuration window, and click the New XML Type button at the bottom left.
Refer to the Types topic in the Requirements Gateway help for more info on creating and customizing types.

Excel rendering not correctly for SQL SERVER 2012 (and reporting server)

I have a tablix that has a category, subcategory and total items column. The total items are grouped into subcategories which are in turn grouped into categories. When using the wizard we explicitly indicate that the subtotals and totals should NOT be displayed.
When displayed in SSRS on IE and we expand/collapse all the categories this works fine, however when we export these to an excel file using the export button we notice that the subcategories total is displayed with an empty cell when we toggle all the subcategories
under one category.
It seems that it used to be a SSRS2008 r2 problem but is that still the case for 2012 and what can I do to fix this?
help would be much appreciated.

Based on my test, I can reproduce the same issue in SSRS 2012. When exporting to Microsoft EXCEL, excel will add an extra row for each group, if we use the “=Sun(fields!column.value)” in the details row, then the extra row will display the total of this
group, if we use the fields!column.value in the details row, then the extra row will display the first value of this group.
Please refer to the work around to fix the issue: add an extra row to the bottom of the tablix, outside of the group below. Then, set the border style with “None” value of these text box.

Are there any differences between Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2 that might impact TFS or SQL server required for TFS?

Hi,
In the interest of just getting started and learning the basics of setting up TFS, I previously setup an IDE using a large workstation running Windows 8. I set up the required servers for TFS using VM's through Hyper-V. I am now transferring
everything to a new and separate physical server.
My question stems from a problem I had when I originally setup the TFS system the 1st time. I couldn't get SQL server to work using the Server 2012 R2 download from the subscription center. When I used Server 2012, it worked, so I proceeded that
way just to get going.
So now I'm setting things up anew on a new physical box, I want to ask up front, is there some difference in the R2 version that causes problems with either TFS or SQL server, or was there likely some oversight on my part when I did things the 1st time?
As an addendum to my question, I always assumed R2 merely means the Server software has progressed to a refined state and is ready for wide distribution and easy setup. I assumed that there are no differences between the Standard version and the R2
version. Is that understanding correct?

I am/was using TFS2013 and VS2013. As I recall, my problem was getting SQL Server to work, but I thought asking this question on this forum was wiser because I figured everyone using TFS would be well familiar with these issues.
At any rate, it seems as though TFS2013 is fine with Server 2012 standard or R2.

Import the test results and doors links back to doors with NI Requirement Gateway

Hi together,
I will try to explain my problem:
We are using TestStand, DOORS and the NI Requirement Gateway.
We created a test specification in DOORS, TestStand used the DOORS IDs to connect the TestSteps in Teststand with the requirements in DOORS.
TestStand runs the test and creates XML-results, the NIRG is able to import these XML-results back to DOORS and creates a new(!!!) DOORS module, parallel to the said test spec.
This module contains some attributes like the single test steps, the results (pass,fail, whatever, ...) but now I am missing a relationship between the DOORS test specification and these results of the XML file or better, the XML-import in the new DOORS Module.
We want to manage our test results only(!) in DOORS so it should be possible to link(!) automatically the results of the XML to the DOORS TestSpec cause we are able to transfer the DOORS-IDs or other attributes (i.e.. The "un"unique NI ID#") too!

Next Step is the DOORS Analyze Tool but we need the links to follow them and to show us the results.

Regarding your statement "We will generate a chunk of XML-Results, so we are not able to link all the requirements by hand", are you concerned about having to update the path to the XML files each time you run the test? In this case, I would recommend creating a directory to store only the most recent report (the report path can be modified in the TestStand report options), and set the XML report project in Requirements Gateway to point to this directory. In your TestStand sequence, you could call code which moves the previous report file into a backup location so that only the newest file is in the specified directory. THis would prevent you from needing to modify the Requirements Gateway project to access the latest report; reanalyzing would reload the project with the new file. The traceability information will therefore always be up to date, and you can see that the DOORS requirements are being covered by the test results.
I agree that there is not really a good solution for importing the XML reports into DOORS, but I think you can acheive the result you are looking for using the report files directly.

What are the main Different between Gateway server and Management server in SCOM 2012?

1) Management server can write data , gathered from agent, directly into operations manager database. Gateway server should forward data, collected from managed agent to management server.
2) In a unturst environment for example workgroup or untrust domain, and you do not want to deploy a certificate to every monitored agent, you should deploy gateway server rather than managment server.

At the moment I am writing my own intermidiate file generator. To keep it simple as possible i have tried to derive it from the NI's one's. One Attribute i could not explain is: "canGenerateResults" in the step element tag.
Is it possible to tell me how this flag value is created?

what you have descriped is the attribute: recordResult.
but the word "sequence" pointed me to the right flag.
The attribute: canGenerateResults ist created by.
Sequnence Properties -> Tab:General-> Checkbox Disable Result Recoding for All Steps.

The domain administrator can log on successfully over the RD Gateway. When i log on a domain user on the RD Gateway server console first and then log on over the RD Gateway, the authentication works fine.
The RD Gateway 2012 R2 has been installed as well as the instructions (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc754191.aspx). I have tried a lots of things, but without a result.
e.g.
register NPS in the AD
all ports in the Firewall between LAN and DMZ are opened
set the "Network security: LAN Manager authentication level" to "Send NTLMv2 response only"
re-install of the RD Gateway 2012 R2
Environment:
All machines have Windows Server 2012 R2 or Windows 8/8.1 with the latest updates. All servers are virtualized with Hyper-V.

From your description seems there is user permission issue and that’s the reason you can’t logon to the remote desktop. For this you can I would like to check whether you have done the following steps for troubleshooting.
Need to create RD CAP and RD RAP policies and also add the user under RD CAP properties for proper access. RD CAPs allow you to specify who can connect to an RD Gateway server. You can specify a user group that exists on the local RD Gateway server or in Active
Directory Domain Services. You can also specify other conditions that users must meet to access an RD Gateway server. You can list specific conditions in each RD CAP. For example, you might require a group of users to use a smart card to connect through RD
Gateway.
When there is no AD DS in the perimeter network, ideally the servers in the perimeter network should be in a workgroup, but the RD Gateway server has to be domain-joined because it has to authenticate and authorize corporate domain users and resources.

Requirements Gateway - Searching for requirements in table rows in a Adobe PDF file

In my quest for creating a good understanding of the coverage of requirements of my test cases I download the NIRG (NI Requirements Gateway) and started out importing my SRS (System Requirement Specifications) documents and some of the test cases. There are many different types of sources which can be imported (Word, Excel, Visio, Access, PDF, ...) and NIRG uses REGEX (Regular Expressions) for extracting the requirement and coverage information of the sources. NI have defined some standardized REGEX formats but they (NI) have also made it possible for tweaking these to fit your purpose.
Instead of adding/changing the SRS documents to fit these standardized REGEX formats, I dived into how to create REGEX for my purpose.

Here is the example document and thank you for taking the time and helping me out .
The columns which I would like to import into NIRG are actually all of them. The UC, Verification, Priority and Responsible columns should be imported as attributes to the requirement. The ID and Requirement columns should be imported as the Requirement and Text respectivaly.

When you define a custom type in Requirements Gateway, you have the option to define the editor to open your file with. I haven't tested it with Calc, but if you choose the "Text" editor, and then define Writer as the default program to use for ".txt" files, I believe that it should open the file.
The problem is that navigation is not simply opening the file, Requirements Gateway will navigate to the place in the file where the requirement or coverage or section exists if you double click on one of those items. However, it does this through the program's API (Word or Excel for example) which is not going to be equivalent to the OpenOffice API. In this way, we can't simply drop OpenOffice in for Microsoft's product and get it to work. The method I described above should allow you to at least open your document.

I want to create Purchase order data from excel . I have PO header and Item as entity in gateway services . I have associated POHeader with PO Items and declared navigation in SEGW. I have implemented method CREATE_DEEP_ENTITY.
While binding the gateway services, it just bind the header fields and i don't have provision to pass on the item fields . My requirement is to bind PO Header and Items together in excel and call the create_deep_entity method so that PO with item is created together in single payload.
In my case i am able to bind either header or Item data and it search for create_entity method and throw error.
Does excel support Deep Insert ? Can we create Hierarchical data using GWPAM excel.

Hi Florian,
it is up to you: the Gateway for Microsoft Excel add-in does support both $batch and the single updates. If the underlying OData service supports $batch then this will certainly boost performance if you do mass update operations.
... and you are right: GWM keeps track on the records which have been changed (updated, deleted or created)

Powerpivot 2012 on Excel 2010 - External Data connections not saving passwords, having to re-enter password EVERYTIME I refresh data

Using Excel 2010 with latest version of Powerpivot 2012 available 11.1.3129.0
For my SQL Server Data connections in Powerpivot I DO NOT have any issue, when clicking refresh it never asks me to enter a password and uses my Windows AD info.
However, for my plethora of other external data connections (Informix, Oracle, Etc...) that I would like to have fluid use within Powerpivot, big problems.
Lets start with Oracle. Below is a screenshot of my connection tab within Powerpivot.
So as you can see, all the details are entered and Allow Saving Password is selected. Now I will close out of Powerpivot and Excel completely and re-open. I will navigate to the Powerpivot tab
and select Powerpivot Window. And then will select to "Refresh All" and am quickly prompted with the "Data Source Credentials" window to re-enter my data source password, again.
What I have already tried. The above method for starters in which I use a connection string under Table Import Wizard --> Others (OLEDB/ODBC)... I found it the least annoying route, although
still have to re-enter password everytime, which is what I hope this forum can help with.
I also have tried doing a direct Oracle connection in Table Import Wizard but also does not eliminate my #1 problem.
I have also created an ODC file to try and use that with stored credentials within the file, also still asks for password each and everytime.
The same thing happens with my other data connections to Informix and DB2. So any help and/or suggestions anyone has would be great. I also cant upload these powerpivots to our powerpivot gallery
on SharePoint 2010, I have a sneaking suspicion it is due to the version of powerpivot I am currently using.

My company is not using Excel 2013, only 2010. So that is what I have to work with. From what I have read this is a huge hole in the Powerpivot 2012 framework and is extremely frustrating. This seems so basic and simple and like something everyone using
this product would use, and yet it still doesnt work.
