NI Vision: Color Spectrum

Hallo,
I have a more or less tricky question to the community. As a part of my PHD-Thesis, I have to measure the residence time of particles in a machine . I want to use UV-fluorescent plastic granulate as tracer. In a first step I want to do a simple feasibility study. I have 2 Webcams (using IMAQdx) and a conveyor belt, measuring the intensity of fluorescation under black-light and calculating the time, dedicated by the conveyor, between the "peaks". I want to use the "Color Spectrum" VI to get a value for the blue intensity of the picture.
So I want to ask 2 questions to experts:
1.) If I use the Color Spectrum VI I get an array as result BUT which array value stands for blue? (The Help gives me no usable answer)
2.)Has anyone a better idea instead of using the Color Spectrum VI?
Thank you for your efforts!
Best regards,
Paul

Hi Bublina
It was not intended as a Hi-Jack
The question I tried to formulate, is so closely related, (on how to use the color learn / color match efficiently) that I thought creating a new thread would merely make someone link to this one.
- I have no problem with using the Hue-Sat space, in fact I already tried using the IMAQ color treshold on RGB space with terrible results, and have tried without achieving a robust result with the HSL space.
The reason for abandoning the strategy (probably to fast) was due to the problems I faced with manually determining the optimal color spectrums for each layer.
I am basicly looking for 3 shades of pink, and one gray layer that have similar intensities as one of the pink shades..
I will re-visit the idea after you'r comment, and use a little more time on calibrating color spectrums, but have little confidence that I can eperate the layers robustly using only 3 color space threshold attributes.
It seems that in tests the combination of using colorLearn / colorMatch can seperate the layers robustly.
So I am very interested in the original question, and may have formulated my own in a slightly wrong way.
What I tried to ask was that I would very much be able to use the "color spectrum" from colorLearn to do a histogram (like you'r example shows for the HSL space) but I want to do the histogram on the entire parameter set in color spectrum, as this seems to seperate colors better than I could do manually.
Hence I also, like the original questioneer, have interest in knowing what the parameters in the Color Spectrum Array, are indicating.
I did not get much knowledge from running the example linked to...
thank you for the help though

  • Is there a way to apply LUT's to a photo in Lightroom?  Such as .cube, Vision Color, etc.

Is there a way to apply LUT's to a photo in Lightroom?  Such as .cube, Vision Color, etc.  I have some film stock and Osiris LUTs I like to use for video that I'd love to apply to RAW still photos in Lightroom.  I know it's possible in Photoshop CC but the process would save me time if it's possible to easily do in Lightroom 5.  Anyone know?

Unfortunately, you can't do it in LR.  You could add your vote and opinion to this topic in the official Adobe feedback forum: Lightroom: Ability to use 3D LUTs.

  • Change color spectrum orientation in 3d plot

    hi,
    I have a 3d plot:
    x-axis = wavelength
    y-axis = angle of reflection
    z-axis = intensity counts
the 3d surface is colored like the spectrum, now i want to rotate the color orientation, that it corresponds with the wavelength, but I do not want to change the axis. thanks.

    Hi Robert,
This is not as easy as right-clicking...
I had posted a crude (er messy?) example that shows you how to define the color of each point plotted in 3-space.
The following link shows the result of doing a parametric plot using this method.

Look fo rthe LAST jpg I posted.
Unfortunately, I could not find where I posted the code. I needed Molly's help to get it posted because it was a 4 meg example.
What you want to do is use a custom color map and use the "w" vector to specify the color of the points. The values passed via the "w" vector must match up with your custom color scale.
Maybe someone else knows a better way. I'll watch for updates.

  • Suddenly lost color spectrum in CS5? all pinks and greens!

I'm working in AI and PS CS5, and suddenly all my colors are various shades of hot pinks and neon green. Color libraries - all the same. It seems to be a bug within CS5 because I've got no problems with monitor or other programs. Any file opened in CS5 gives this result, yet they print fine. I've tried rebooting - same deal. It's as if it's somehow been set to half of CMYK? Any advice greatly appreciated!
my config is CS5 on Windows XP 64bit

    Thank you, Mylenium!
This has become a nightmare beyond anything I've experienced in my 10 years using this program. After following Wade's advice (and ignoring the sarcasm attached) I found myself in even further difficultly.
I've now done a complete re-install of CS5, and am still experiencing the same issue. It's as is the Gamma is off. This happens in both AI and PS. After trying every research/expert forum I can come across, I am now wondering if this has anything to do with Windows XP 64-bit. I'm thinking I may need to revert back to an older OS.
thanks again for any thoughts or advice!

  • How to match printer color spectrum to iPhoto?

When I print photos on my HP Officejet Pro7600, the coloration is much darker than what is on the monitor screen. How can I get the printer to reflect what I see on the screen or vice versa? Makes it very tough to edit photos . . .

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How do you have your display calibrated. What gamma is it set at? You can find that by going thru a customized calibration. You don't have to make any changes but can go thru the process till you get to the gamma setting. Apple used to set it's displays to a gamma of 1.8. But the world operates at a gamma 2.2 which is darker.
Also what color profile is embedded in your photos? You can see which it is by opening a photo with Preview and typing Command+i. In the Info window you'll see the color mode and profile. The profile that desired is sRGB, camera RGB or one like it. If the photo has the Adobe RGB profile it will print darker than if it has one of the other RGB profiles.

  • How can I add a color bar scale to a CW3DGraph

I am using the CW3Dgraph control (parametric surface plot) in a LabVIEW program I have written to graph the the strength of an electromagnetic field over a sphere.  The plot color map style is set to use the "color spectrum".  I would like to add a color bar scale to the graph so the user can determine the approximate field strength by the color of the plot.  Is there an example that could help me with this, does anyone know how to add a color bar scale, or is there some other way to indicate to the user the color's level?

I think if you search this forum you will find more than one approach to this quest. In this thread you will find an earlier discusion of the same nature that has a couple of methods you can try out.

  • How do you display a color palette for InDesign

I would like to have a similar color palette displayed that is used in PhotoShop for my InDesign work.  Right now when
clicking on a swatch color it brings up the rgb or cmyk sliders, but I would like to have the full color spectrum available
to select from as in PhotoShop

You can acess the color picker by double clicking the strok or fill proxies in the tool box or color panel rather than the swatch, but Keep in mind that this is an RGB colorspace tool, and the potential for doing great harm to spot colors or CMYK mixes is tremendous if you exit with the wrong set of values highlighted, so I generally recommend giving it a wide berth.

  • Need to change color of a symbol with a custom slider

I'm pretty new to Flash and am not sure if it is the right app to try to do the following:
I need to create an interactive piece. It's much more involved than this but fundamentally I need to create a slider on the left side of a window that is the color spectrum. I'll put a small triangular pointer beside it that can be moved up and down beside the spectrum. I want whatever color the slider is next to to show up in a symbol on the right. I've attached a simple image that illustrates it.
So to restate it again, I'd slide the triangular symbol up and down beside the spectrum gradient on the left and whatever color it is pointing to would just show up in the symbol on the right, real time.
Is this possible in Flash and if so I'd appreciate some guidance about how to start coding it? I'm not a programmer but do know and understand how code works fundamentally. I understand that Flash uses Action Script and I assume that with Action Script it's most likely possible to do this.
    Thanks,
    Rob

  • How to display spectral lines in color band

I want to display a line spectrum in color band format.  What I have are two arrays: wavelength and intensity. I can plot the graph like the bottom one and I want to convert it to the top color band. The considerations are:
    1. the color must agree with the wavelength.  For instant, the 650 nm corresponds to the red color and the 490 matches the blue
    2. the line intensity is indicated by the line width of the color line.  For instant, the 650 nm line is a strong one and its red line in the color band is the widest.   The 435 nm line is a weak one so it is barely see (but still visible) in the color band.
I would like to know if labview has any built-in function to assist me with this job.  If not, any idea of implementing this?
Thanks in advance for any suggesting.

I am thinking of an alternative way to implement this, but not sure if LabView can handle:
    1. First, set a standard color spectrum as background:
    2. Then, make the spectral line image as 2D, and put it in front of the color spectrum with the wavelength aligned.  The picture below has the y-axis offset a bit to show my concept:
For the 2D spectral line image, I have the max intensity set as white and the min set at black.  WHAT IF I can set the min as "opaque" and max as "100% transparent"?  Is it possible?
I started my labview programming last year so sometime I may think labview can "fly".  If this concept is too crazy (a.k.a. impossible) , just let me know.  Thanks!

  • How to compensate Cyan color with other colors with using profile

    Hi Guys,
I am using Adobe Illustrator CS3. Mac OS 10.4.11. I need a help regarding color compensate. let me explain clearly. I am doing a project in that i need to delete Cyan color and need to compensate with MYK colors. Is there any short way to get with good result.
FYI: we have UCR (Under Color Remover) profile which is for Black. With using this profile we can compensate black color with CMY with good result. Like this way only I want Cyan color compensate.
Is there any profile or method for that. If there, please share with me....

I am doing a project in that i need to delete Cyan color and need to compensate with MYK colors. Is there any short way to get with good result.
You are getting rid of the C channel completely and trying to create the same color balance usign the M,Y and K plates? Quite simply - impossible unless your images have a narrow color spectrum. The K to some extent can be used to replace a lot of the density normally associated with the C. But there is a large part of the color wheel that you cannot produce with no C at all.
with actions and scripting it is not possible. because all the images are different, we need to work according to image.
This is not true. Actions are probably more powerful than you are aware and can be designed to bring up dialogs to allow you to tailor each image to your needs.

  • Display seems like 16 bit color with slight flicker

When I turned my iMac on today, it's like the display color spectrum is on 16 bit color and it has a flicker to it.
This happed all of the sudden.
It's less than a year old.
    21" iMac
    Intel Core 2 Duo
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400
    VRAM 256MB
    Any ideas?

16bit colour is the default maximum colour depth for RDP connections to a windows terminal server. You can increase this by editing the local group policy object on the windows machine.
Go to start->run and type gpedit.msc
Browse to Computer Configuration/Administrative Template/Windows Components/Terminal Services and edit the "Limit Maximum colour depth properties" key. Set it to enabled and select 24 bit. Click OK close group policy editor. You should now be able to get 24bit colour over RDP connections.

  • Using the Color Panel in HSB mode

Using the Color Panel in HSB mode. I start by selecting a color in the spectrum at the bottom using the eyedropper.
As I drag the eyedropper through the spectrum it seems the H slider moves to the same color.
    1. Is the H slider showing the same exact thing that is in the color spectrum at the bottom?
    Thanks.

Yes if you drag a strait line so that the other two sliders don't move. In other words you are changing only the Hue (H). If you drag up and down the other two sliders Saturation and Brightness will be affected.

  • Compact colour spectrum to RGB

    Hello,
I would like to convert the array of the colour spectrum I get from the colour learn VI to to an RGB colour as one or 3 values. The help says that the output of the colour learn VI is
Color Spectrum returns the color features found in the image region. These features represent the color information in the image region in a compact form.
    How can I do that?
    Thanks,
    Zied

Thanks for your reply. I tried to follow your advice. I used the VI attached with the png picture and I tried to move the rectangle from the right to the left but the values I get are not increasing or decrising, they were random especially when I move from the blu to the yellow.

  • Selecting colors similar to in Illustrator?

In Illustrator I can double click on a color in the toolbox to open the Color Picker to select a hue from the Color Spectrum, and then play with the saturation and brightness in the color field. What is the closest thing to this in Fireworks?

There's a panel in Fireworks called Color Palette (Window > Color Palette) that has several different modes; the Selector mode offers a Color Picker-type layout with HLS, HSV, CMYK and RGB modes. Unlike Photoshop and Illustrator, its "grid vs. slider" interface is fixed, but it also provides individual sliders immediately beneath, which let you control each dimension independently. I think this was originally a third-party extension, and it doesn't quite feel as fully integrated as other default components, but it offers a lot of interesting functionality.
Fireworks' main color picker is a Swatches palette, but it also includes a System Color Picker option that lets you take advantage of your operating system's native color picker options, if they're available. On a Mac, this includes a variety of interface styles, including a Color Wheel, HSB Sliders, etc.
There's also Fireworks' native Color Mixer panel, which lacks visual feedback but is a handy way to adjust colors by dimension. It offers RGB, Hexadecimal, CMY, HSB, and Grayscale modes.

  • Flash CC Color Picker defaults to Red Channel every time opened

I recently upgraded to Flash CC, and am having an issue when opening the Color Picker to adjust a palette color.
When the Color Picker opens, the Hue radio button is selected (H), but the visual palette selection on the left is showing the color spectrum as if the Red Channel (R) was selected.  I have to click on the "H" radio button every time the Color Picker is opened to refresh that selectable area on the left to show the correct information instead of the Red spectrum.
In previous versions (ie Flash Pro CS5) it would remember which palette system you use (Hue, Saturation, etc.) and always use that when you re-opened the color picker.  Now this is forcing me to reselect my preferred palette every time I open the color picker.  This is not just happening when I restart Flash -- this is every single time the picker is opened, within the same session, within the same document, seconds apart.
All of the computers in the office with CC licenses are also seeing this behavior.  Is this happening for everyone, and is there a solution to have it correctly show the palette system I've selected?
I'm using Flash CC on Windows 8.1.
