.nib files showing up as folders

I have all the developer tools installed but all my .nib files show up as folders in finder. It's a pain in the a$$ to keep having to drag these things to the dock to get them to open. How do I get them to show up as interface builder files?
--Much Thanks

Don't worry about them. Among the things iPhoto 6 does when it updates, is updates the content of the thumbnails to be more compatible with iPhoto 6. If you interrupted that process when it was doing it, it may leave behind temporary information that should not be deleted.

Files not showing up in folders. Saving files to folders, opening folders which are blank

Then something has happened to the permission and or attribute settings on your folders to mark files saved in them as hidden.
Try this Terminal command to show all files and you can turn it off by changing the true to false at the end of the command.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles -bool true
If you then see your files tere is a problem with files being market as hidden when they are saved. Create a New Folder in the Root of the drive and look at its Get Info window and post a screen shot of it in this thread.

  • File Name Shortenings in Folders (Finder)

My question is if you can change the format of how shortened file names appear in folders.
The default is showing the beginning and ending of a file name:
"summer vacation photos" -> "summ...otos" (of course depending on how large the file icon is or how wide the column is)
I want to know if it is possible to change the settings to just show the beginning of the file name (the Windows default I guess):
"summer vacation photos" -> "summer vac..."
I just want to know because I find the Mac default to be difficult to read and to figure out what the file names are.

Use list view and expand the name column to display the entire name. Alternatively, use shorter names. As for changing how it's displayed, there's no built-in way to do it the way you want to.

  • Strange System Files Showing Up Everywhere

Roughly two weeks ago I started noticing all kinds of unfamiliar system files showing up in a number of my folders. They are always grayed out and as far as I know have nothing to do with the actual folder. These are just straight forward folders and/or my actual Mac hard drive. Any idea where they may be coming from? I don't know that any of them are actual system files that might be important. The second link, the CODES folder should be the only file in that folder. Here are links to a couple of them.

  • File icons in exported folders

On a Mac You are used to have small thumbnailpictures ( file icons ) in the folders. When you work on a picture in photoshop and save it it has the small pictures. In Capture One You can choose to make the icons when exporting (developing). In Aperture You also get the file icons, but with LR all you get is a jpeg-symbol. I know this perhaps is a minor thing because you can se se and browse the pictures in the library. I also know it is something windows users never had. But I like to look at a folder without to open a program and get an overview. Is there somewhere in the preferences I have overlooked, or is is something that belongs to the past ?
    Jan Herrstedt

The preview icons are there, but it is not SMALL PICTURES Alike those embedded in the thumbnail
You have to set the finder "View options" accordingly ...
To be clear, I don't mean the icon of the Preview.app but actual small previews of the images. And theses are not embedded thumbnails, but created by the Finder on the fly. So to answer your original question: Lightroom does not embed thumbnails in exported jpegs (I guess to keep the file size down), but the Finder does not need them to show a preview of the image as its icon.

  • Switch between Nib files

    Hi everybody,
I am struggling with a functionality which I thought of as "simple" at first. A little background:
    1. I have two digital cameras and two nib files containing the GUIs for either camera.
The GUIs are controlled by two NSWindowController objects (Camera1Controller and
    Camera2Controller).
    2. If no camera is connected show an openning screen GUI (MainAppGUI.xib).
    3. Target behaviour: plug in either camera -> show the right GUI.
    4. The target behaviour may be repeated as often as the user wants.
What I did? Created a class MainAppDelegate of type NSObject<NSApplicationDelegate>.
This class is the owner of the MainAppGUI.xib and is the "Main nib file". It receives
the notifications from either camera when they are connected and tries to load one
of the Camera1.xib or Camera2.xib. I use the NSBundle loadNibNamed:owner: method.
Here comes my first question, how can I set the owner of the files? What are the right bindings
to File's Owner in the interface builder of the Camera1.xib, Camera2,xib and MainAppGUI.xib.
Do I have to use a document based application? I know that those questions seem like I have
to read more but I really did and seem to grow just all the more confused not smarter.
So please any pointers or help will be highly appreciated.
    Best Regards

  • .bundles and .frameworks showing as regular folders

For some reason my .bundle files and .frameworks are showing as Regular folders and not Lego Blocks like they use to. I tried logging on to another account and even creating a new account and the problem still exists.
I have tried the usual steps like repairing permissions and even using lsregister to repair file associations, but nothing I have tired has corrected the issue.

    It should, I believe.
It sounds like a desktop related file for handling bundle icons is borked. Do you know your way around plists/preference files?
    Try deleting the com.apple.desktop.plist

  • System wide failure to load .nib files

    Hi everyone,
I've recently stumbled across a problem. Several of OS X bundled applications are no longer functioning due to uncaught exceptions in the application.
    1) Mail.app throws an exception and terminates when trying to open an e-mail message:
*** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: '-[NSViewController loadView] could not load the "MessageView" nib.'
    2) Stickies.app (Sticky notes) generates a log record (seen in the console app) when attempting to show a sticky note:
    From the console log:
-[NSWindowController loadWindow]: failed to load window nib file 'StickiesDocument'.
But the application is not getting terminated.
    3) Preview.app has stopped working, but is not generating any log records or uncaught exceptions.
    4) Terminal.app generates a log record when attempting to open a terminal window at startup:
    From the console log:
-[TTWindowController loadWindow]: failed to load window nib file '(null)'.
There might be other apps that could possibly have the same issue
Having provided the background of the issue my question therefore is: What might be possible solutions to this? (Except reinstalling OS X which is the last (and only) option on my list)
    Thanks in advance!
    With regards,
    Valentine

Unfortunately, there is no where to download Apple's applications without reinstalling.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions. Then reinstall the OS.

  • WARNING!!! NSWindow Nib files

    WARNING!!!!
    1) You cannot access a nib file programatically in any case!
    2) You cannot create an NSWindow from within its NSWindowController!
    3) You cannot 'show' an NSWindow from within an NSWindow (you must use an NSWindowController to 'show' an NSWindow)!
One of the biggest hindrances to learning the manuals is that there are so few warnings on what you cannot do.

Maybe different things are tricky for different people. The three points I listed would have saved me hours of frustration if I had known them before I started reading on views.
(The Interface Builder is awesome until you want to change something programatically, which there is usually no need to do. But I am on the side of making more technology available to the public, rather than the same or less. At some point, if everyone could easily change windows programatically, the design of the system might loose its consistency. So there is some real concern from the design side of things. At this point, people should be willing to adopt the Apple patterns for their windows through the strength of the branding, and not because the access to programatically designing them is limited. There may be some security issues as well, which is possible.)
I'm very satisfied with the fact that I can now launch windows in a number of application design patterns with complete control over their design, which is something that I need to do for this project but may never use again. And it was a little confusing to me, too, that some properties can be set only before a window is shown, and some after.

  • Can't open .nib files on Intel iMac with IB

I'm trying to edit .nib files for my lab (have had no trouble until now) and they won't open. I keep getting the "can't open" error.
This is my first time trying to edit an x86 based .nib file, is there something different, is there a way around this? I have permission to open them (even tried root).
    Dave

Interface Builder .nibs aren't actually files but are packages. In the Finder, you can Control-click on them and choose "Show Package Contents" to view inside of them.
Inside of a .nib file you save from Interface Builder, you'll find the following files (which are actually files):
    objects.nib (Pre-10.2 nib format)
keyedobjects.nib (10.2 and later nib format)
    classes.nib
    info.nib
The "objects.nib" and "keyedobjects.nib" files are the actual archived objects of your nib, while the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" are secondary files that allow you to open the .nib file in Interface Builder to edit it. Without the "classes.nib" and "info.nib" files inside the .nib, you won't be able to open the .nib in IB, yet the nib will still work properly for the application it's part of. Before releasing an application, some developers will remove the classes.nib and info.nib files from the .nibs in their apps to prevent end users (or their competitors) from being able to open and/or tamper with their nibs in Interface Builder.
Make sure all the parts are inside the nib files and see if they'll open. Otherwise, you might check the Console to see if anything is reported when you try to open the files.
    Hope this helps.....

  • XMP files showing as unrecognizable icons in wondows

What is with these software companies? One can never upgrade anything these days without it screwing up some other aspect of your computer system and files. I recently upgraded to lightroom 1.4 and adobe camera raw and now all my xmp/sidecar files show as unrecognizable. They appear to be recognized in lightroom but I'm performing folder clean up and it is very annoying if you are trying to stay organized to see a bunch of blank tiles show up in your windows xp folders.
Anyone know how I can properly associate them to the correct program?
    Thanks!

    Click on My Computer
Tools > Folder Options > File Types
Click on the file type that you want to change which program it opens with.
Under Opens With Click on Change
Choose the program that you want the file type to open with.
The icon will change and become visible throughout Windows.

  • Files show up in downloads but not in Finder

Files showing up in downloads but not in Finder  I am running OS X 10.9.5 on my MacBook Pro.  I am having a problem with Finder being able to display all the files in folders, if any.  The files show up in downloads for instance but when I go to my downloads in Finder, the folders are empty.

The screenshot doesn't show the downloads…
It may also help to know what you are expecting to see in there - for example Application XXYY says I downloaded AABB, but I can't see AABB.
Certain apps have their own settings for where to store files - more info needed.

  • File Sharing and Public Folders

I'm trying to share iTunes files (and hopefully) other folders with the other user on my iMac. I placed my music in the public folder and (as far as I can tell) set it up to share. The other user still can't see or access the folders. Is there some file sharing secret I don't know?

The method described by David is how I have been sharing my iTunes music folder with other users on my Mac (with the iTunes library file remaining in my iTunes folder).
It works pretty well, but you do have to remember to occasionally tell iTunes to 'Add to Library', selecting the iTunes music folder in the Shared folder. This then updates the library so it will show new music added. The AppleScript "Super Remove Dead Tracks" is also useful - if you run it in all accounts accessing the shared music folder, it will keep iTunes database listing accurate.
However, i had read that any folder can now be made a share folder in Leopard. How is this done so that other users can access my iTunes music folder, reading and writing music to it? At the moment, i have used System Prefs to make the iTunes music folder (now temporarily moved back to its default location) a share folder. The problem is, there seems to be no way to see it from the other account…
