Just tried to update itunes and it failed - and I can't install the latest version either - it fails too. Nice one Apple.

Opened up itunes this morning and it said there was an update. So I hit the Install new version button. Gets just about all the way through and says there was an error.
I tried opening itunes from the shortcut on my desktop and says that it's pointing to nothing.
Downloaded the latest version of itunes and it installs all the way untill it gives me the finger .. I mean ... this screen shot:
Nice one Apple. "All your music. All in one place" .. but you can't access it. HAHAHAHA
Any one else finding this problem and a way around it?

DHCP - one server, 2 scopes, 2 NICs, one scope is not assigning IPs

Hi all,I just setup a DHCP server and one of the 2 scopes is not assigning IPs. Here’s my setup:DHCP running on Windows Server 2008.I have 2 VLANs – VLAN1 192.168.2.0 for our network and VLAN2 192.168.20.0 for guests. I started the DHCP role on the DC. Hyperv on one NIC, unclear on IP addressing

i'm setting up an hyperv host on a single-nic server and i'm a little unclear on where do i configure the local ip address afterwards:
I have the two NICs, one phys, one virual:
the physical got everything unbound except the virtual network switch (it has static IP).
the virtual LAN does NOT have the virtual switch selected but it took the IP address of the private one.
at this point i'm confused(and i've been reading documentation), is this supposed to be like this?, does the host OS now comunícate through the vNIC only?, how is it working if the virtual NIC does not have the virtual switch selected.
¿shouldnt the vNIC have the VNS bound to it?, is the vNIC the new "local" NIC(AFAIK it is)
On the HVM i have the "allow management os to share..." enabled

When you check the "Allow Management OS to share this network adapter" Checkbox, Hyper-V will actually create a vEthernet object in network connections with whatever name you gave the vSwitch.
This is the object you assign the IP address, DNS, gateway...etc..etc that you want the host system to use for communication.
At this point Host traffic is actually routed out via that vSwitch.

What is the best way to set up Facetime if using multiple computers with one apple ID?

I currently have FaceTime setup on my iPad 2 using my normal appleID, but have just recently upgraded our iMac from Leopard to Snow leopard, and have added FaceTime to that computer as well. So my question is this. If I want to avoid confusion with which device is called when someone calls us using FaceTime, what is the best way to distinguish the devices? Should I try to use a different email address to reach the iMac? Is there a best-known-method for this?

That's a nice system Kevin, and it will work very nicely with Photoshop. I do take it that you have 16Gb RAM in Total?
250Gb SSD is a good size, but you can still run short, and that will affect Windows performance. When you get your system, instal WinDirStat which gives you a graphic display of everything on your drive, like below. Clicking on any of the large areas will tell you what and where they are, so you can think about moving cache folders etc. to one of the HDDs.
Leave the Pagefile.sys on the boot drive. Think about disabling Hyphenate as it takes a ton of space, and too often crashes on wake up.

Think about another 500Gb drive just for Photoshop Scratch. Drives are cheap as chips nowadays
Do yourself a favour, and invest $100 in Shadow Protect (or similar if there is such a thing) SP saves incremental backups every 15 minutes (you can set the interval, but it has no impact on performance with a system like yours). If you have a problem you can mount the back up at any of those 15 minute points, and open files from it. You can also make a bootable DVD image of your C drive, and be back up and running five minutes after disaster strikes.

Well blow me down & keelhaul me! I've solved my own problem. The issue appears to be that Apple won't sync Smart Groups from Address Book to the iPhone. I created a test group with a few dud contacts in Address Book; iTunes sync'ed then OK & as soon as I went into Contacts on iPhone, there suddenly was the Groups button appearing with 2 Groups - my Test Group + all Other contacts. Nice one apple - another undocumented feature! Looks like I have to do away with the Smart Groups feature & convert them all to normal Groups in Address book - bugga!

Best Practice setting up NICs for Hyper V 2008 r2

I am looking at some suggestions for best practice for setting up a hyper V 2008 r2 at a remote location with 5 nics, one for managment vlan and other 4 on the data vlan. This server will host 2 virtual machines, one is a DC and the other
is a member local DHCP server. The server is setup now with one nic on the management Vlan and the other nic's set to get there ip from the local dhcp server on on the host. We have the virtual networks setup in Hyper V to
point to each of the nics using the "external connection". The virtual servers 'DHCP and AD" have there own ip set within them. Issues we are seeing, when the site looses external connections for a while they cannot get ip
addresses from the local dhcp server anymore.
1. NIC on management Vlan -- IP Static -- Physical host
2. NIC on the Data network Vlan -- DHCP linked as a connection "external" in Hyper V -- virtual server DHCP
3. NIC on the Data network Vlan -- DHCP linked as a connection "external" in Hyper V -- Virtual server domain controller
4. NIC on the Data network Vlan -- DHCP linked as a connection "external" in Hyper V -- extra
5. NIC on the Data network Vlan -- DHCP linked as a connection "external" in Hyper V -- extra

Looks like you may be over complicating things here. More and more of the recommendations from Microsoft at this point would be to create a Logical Switch and then layer on Logical Networks for your management layers, but here is what I would do for
you simple remote office.
Management NIC: Looks good (Teaming would be better, but only if you had 2 different switching to protect against link failures at the switch level. Doesn't seem relevant in this case however.
NIC for Data Network VLAN: I would use one NIC in your case if you can have the ability to Trunk multiple VLANs at the switch level to the NIC. That way you are setting the VLAN on the VMs NIC that you want to access and your
Virtual Switch configuration is very simple. On this virtual switch however, I would uncheck IPv4 and IPv6. There is no need to give this NIC an address as you are just passing traffic through them from the VMs that are marked with VLAN tags. Again,
if you have multiple physical switches in the building teaming could be an option, but probably adds more complexity than is necessary for a small office.
Even if you keep your Virtual Switches linked to separate NICs unchecking IPv4 and IPv6 makes sense.
Disable all the other NICs
Beyond that, check your routing. Can you ping between all hosts when there is not interruption? What DHCP server are they getting there addresses on normally? Where are your name resolution servers (DNS, WINS)?
No silver bullet here, but maybe a step in the right direction.

RMI uses incorrect InetAddress on machine with two nics

RMI registry and server run on the same host. Host has two nics, one assigned for private network (192.168.x.x) and another for global.
For the sake of creating RMI registry I use the global one and specify it as four dot-delimited numbers instead of machine name:
Registry registry = LocateRegistry.getRegistry("xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", rmiPort); // "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" is global IP addressInvoking a method with just a port as a single parameter causes RMI to bind to the private address, so I avoided that trouble by using numeric IP.
Remote client is able to locate the registry and extract the stub from it now, but ironically retrieved stub contains private address inside.
Debugger shows that the proxy stub contains TCPEndpoint which resolves to 192.168.xxx.xxx:yyyy
I am exporting the object on the server side by using UnicastRemoteObject.exportObject(myObj, 0) method.
Unfortunately, there is no method which would allow to specify the InetAddress to bind the object on.
I've seen the battle on page [Remote Method Invocation (RMI) - Why does RMI server sets its connection address?|http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5366985].
Close questions are discussed, but I haven't found answer on my question.
Is there an ability to specify the address when exporting the object?
Or any workaround to let the client retrieve the proper stub which can be used to send requests to the server?

For the sake of creating RMI registry I use the global one and specify it as four dot-delimited numbers instead of machine name:

That doesn't create a registry. It just returns a stub to an existing registry.
Invoking a method with just a port as a single parameter causes RMI to bind to the private address.No it doesn't. It causes RMI to construct a stub using "localhost" as the hostname. If this maps to the private address via your /etc/hosts file or DNS, so be it.

The stub doesn't know where you got it from. The address inside the stub is controlled by what "localhost" resolves to in the server JVM. If it resolves to something inconvenient, either change that or set the system property java.rmi.server.hostname to the desired IP address or hostname in the server JVM.
Unfortunately, there is no method which would allow to specify the InetAddress to bind the object on.You don't normally need one, see above, although in pathological cases you could use an RMIServerSocketFactory, which does give you that ability.

Speakers that look very nice with aluminum iMac?

I'm looking to purchase speakers for my iMac and I haven't found any that look great and also get good reviews. I'm willing to spend up to about $200 CDN. I have the aluminum iMac. I will be using the speakers mostly to watch TV/video so I don't need it to achieve great bass and such.

Disable NIC on Host but enable in VM - Hyper-V Core 2012

I have multiple NICs on my hyper-V Host.
I am running a router/firewall as a VM on this host. This is my perimeter/border protection.
The issue I am having is that one of the NICs on the Hyper-V host is dedicated to WAN connectivity for this VM. I want to somehow disable this NIC on the host but have it enabled for the router/firewall VM. Is this possible?
So logically, what I want is: Modem --> Router/Firewall VM --> rest of network (including other NICs on Hyper-V host)
Currently it is: Modem --> Hyper-V Host NIC --> Router/Firewall VM --> rest of network (including other NICs on Hyper-V host)
Obviously without doing anything, the host got assigned an IP and it had no firewall in front of it. I have since given it a static IP (10.0.0.24/255.255.255.224), but is there any way to just disable it on the host level?

Absolutely. When you create the virtual switch on the physical NIC, one of the options is whether or not to expose it to the host operating environment. If you uncheck the box (the default is checked), the host does not have access to that NIC.
When you create an external switch, any connection to that switch will be made with a virtual NIC, including from the host. If you uncheck that box, no virtual NIC is created for the host.

Two Networks, One Server

I have one Windows 2003 server with two NICs, one on the internal Lan the the other to run our Public Wireless Network.
On our internal LAN the IP is 192.168.10.#. That Lan can access the Internet through its own gateway.
I have a virtual server running on the same server using a NIC with an IP of 192.168.103.#. It also can access the Internet through its own gateway.
Previously, I had the wireless running on a seperate Linux Box and I could NOT access the internal LAN. Unfortunately, since I moved that to the Windows server I can access the Internal Lan using Remote Desktops etc...
I do have a 5510 ASA device that both networks go through.
How can I block the wireless network from accessing the internal lan? I do need the internal Lan to be able to access the wireless Lan (Which it now can do).

1. Windows Server with 2 NICS
    A. NIC 1 with IP of 192.168.10.### VLAN for Internal Network
    B. NIC 2 with IP of 192.168.103.5 connects to the 192.168.103.0 VLAN (Wireless)
2. VMWARE's Virtual Server runs on the Windows 2003 Box and Host Linux Proxy Server with an IP of 192.168.103.8
     All wireless nodes use the proxy address of 192.168.103.8 to access the Internet.
Problem: Laptops connected to the wireless 192.168.103.0 network can Access the 192.168.10.0 network. I need the Laptops isolated from the 192.168.10.0 network.
Observation: When the Proxy Server was running on it's own box, wireless nodes could not access the 192.168.10.0 Vlan.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

I was recently presented with the challenge of automating the creation and configuration of a NIC Team on Server 2012 and Server 2012 R2.
Condition:
New Team will use static IP Address of an existing NIC (one of two physical NICs to be used in the Team). Each server has more than one NIC.
Our environment is pretty static, in the sense that all our servers use the same subnet mask and DNS server IP Addresses, so I really only had
to worry about the Static IP Address and the Default Gateway.
1. Retrieve NIC IP Address and Default Gateway:
I needed a way to query only the NIC with the correct IP Address settings and create required variables based on that query. For that, I
leveraged WMI. For example purposes, let's say the servers in your environment start with 192. and you know the source physical NIC with desired network configurations follows this scheme. This will retrieve only the network configuration information
for the NIC that has the IP Address that starts with "192." Feel free to replace 192 with whatever octet you use. you can expand the criteria by filling out additional octects... example:

Our NICs are named “Ethernet” and “Ethernet 2” by default, so I was able to keep –TeamMembers as a static entry.
Also added start-sleep command to give the new Team time to build and come online before moving on to network configurations.

There are two separate commands used to fully configure network settings,
New-NetIPAddress : Here is where you assign the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.
Set-DnsClientServerAddress: Here is where you assign any DNS Servers. In my case, I have 2, just replace x's with your
desired DNS IP Addresses.

I've done this before, and because of that I've run into something you may find valuable.
Namely two challenges:
There are "n" number of adapters in the server.
Adapters with multiple ports should be labeled in order.
MS only supports making a LBFO Team out of "like speed" adapters.
To solve both of these challenges I standardized the name based on link speed for each adapter before creating hte team. Pretty simple really! FIrst I created to variables to store the 10g and 1g adapters. I went ahead and told it to skip
any "hyper-V" ports for obvious reasons, and sorted by MAC address as servers tend to put all thier onboard NICs in sequentially by MAC:
$All10GAdapters = (Get-NetAdapter |where{$_.LinkSpeed -eq "10 Gbps" -and $_.InterfaceDesription -notmatch 'Hyper-V*'}|sort-object MacAddress)

Weblogic Cluster on a machine with multiple NIC

Out Setup
          One Quad Machine
          2 NIC - one ip address on each
          Two weblogic installations
          Each Instance is listening on one address and port 7001.(managed servers)
          Admin Server on one of the ip and port 8001
          Both managed servers part of a cluster.
          While i check weblogic console i see both the managed server
          having almost same number of frames incoming and outgoing.
          If i check 4 processers all 4 of them working eqaully same
          during out load test..(almost 85%)
          But i check NICs only one of them seems to be working really hard..
          and another one so..so.. what could be the problem??


          Weblogic 7 has a new concept called network channel, where there is a section talking
          about clustering over multiple NIC cards. I was confused by the cluster address in
          customized network channel (no example there). I tried to use multiple NIC cards
          for the purpose of network failover, but failed in clustering environment, although
          I succeed in single server environment.

Can one add a image to one's signature?

Hi there people!
I've been enjoying the awesome ease of using Mac Mail with iSync to keep my E-mail accounts ordered while I'm on the go. Nice one...
However, my question relates more a vanity issue that a technical one.
We have a somewhat "kewl" logo in ".jpg" format, and we were wondering whether we can attach this to all our E-mails (i.e. just like a signature)? Is there anyway to do this?
Methods tried so far:
1. We have tried using PhotoBucket to upload the ".jpg" file and then tagging the signature with the "HTML Tag" and seeing if it came up in sent E-mails... Alas, this didn't work.
2. We have tried to insert a picture every time we send a mail into the desired location. This becomes a "pain in the butt" to do every time, not to mention it's time consuming, and makes us realize that "vanity" isn't worth the effort all the time.
Hope some one can help us amke this vanity fair easier on our souls...
