Nice simple frame around photo

I have a number of photos that I need to put on a site.
I would like the photos to have a simple frame around them.
I realize this is a pretty basic question, and I can think of several ways to do it, but since I am doing a bunch of them I was wondering if anyone here has any suggestions.
The built in frames in Fireworks CS4 Auto shapes panel are too fancy for what I want.
Attached is a screen capture of what I would like.  Notice that it's a photo inside of a while frame with a slight drop shadow. I might want to make the white frame a few pixels wider, but the example JPG is basically what I want.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rowby

If you want a way that you can get that effect using a batch process then I may have a way. Once you get this tweaked, make it a command and run the command in the batch. I have a movie on this part, if interested I'll find it :-)
open an image
apply a Photoshop stroke, outside, 4 pixels white. You need to tweak settings to get sharp square edges. I didn't do that part.
Apply a FW glow: In property inspector select Shadow nd Glow, width of 1, gray, offset and distance 0 and opacity 100%
Select shadow and glow again and add a drop shawdow.
Once it looks the way you want make a command

  • Simple frame around pictures

Hi, I'm trying to simply place a thin border around either a block of text or photo so they stand out as boxed on a white background.  Can anyone help.

Thanks Barbara, what about putting the frame around the entire canvas.
Here is one way to create a frame outside the picture.
    1. Create new layer beneath the picture layer. Note that if the picture layer is named "Background" (the default name) then you must first rename it to anything else.
    2. Image > Resize > Canvas Size, and increase Width & Height by same amount (but not percent), twice your desired border size.
    3. Fill new layer with the frame color.
    Or you can simply:
    1. Set the Background color chip at the bottom of the toolbar to your frame color.
    2. Image > Resize > Canvas Size, and increase Width & Height by same amount (not percent), twice your desired border size.

  • Can I put a frame around a photo in premier elements

I have used photoshop Elements for years for scrapbooking, but as just starting to use premier Elements.  my first project will be using a lot of very old family portraits and put on a DVD.  can I put a frame around a photo in premier elements and can i use background papers like I do in elements.  I am using version 11 for both.
    Thanks

Put the background on track 1. Put the photo on track 2.  Put the frame (with transparancy) on track 3.  Use the motion properties in the effects panel to adjust the scale and/or position as desired.
It's just like using layers in Photoshop Elements.
Also, resize your stills to no larger than 1000 x 750 pixels for SD and 2000 x 1500 pixels for HD.

  • Basic Stuff!! How can I add a simple frame?

    Hi,
Sorry for what's a pretty basic question... I'm used to version 4.0 of Photoshop Elements and I've used this for a while and one feature I used heavily was to add a simple white frame with a drop shadow to pictures I publish on the web. It is/was really simple, I have the photo open in the editor and simply double click the frame and it automatically adds it to fit around the outside of the phot regardless of size etc.
I now have Elements 7, and I just cannot find any way to do this at all. I've searched for tutorials, and the only frame function I've found seems to want to use a fixed frame size that hides some of the picture.
It's becoming quite infuriating, what was once a simple task in PSE 4 has gotten me completely beaten in PSE 7...
Can someone please help me, it's driving me round the bend!!!

    Hi Barbara....
Thanks for your help, I can see the frames there, but they seem to work in a completely different way to PSE 4.
If I double click a frame, or select and click apply then they're all cropping the photo to fit the frame which is the opposite behaviour to PSE 4 which fitted the frame around whatever the phot was... Then all it seems I can do is make the pic bigger or smaller, but if it's not the same aspect ratio as the frame then I get blank bits.
And I can't figure out how to get the drop frame look I got before... for an example see here:

  • Frame around a page

    Hello,
I'm using iWeb 3.04. I've made a site, I would like to draw a frame around my page (just a simple rectangle). Is this possible?
    Thanks!

yes it is possible, but it isn't easy as you think if you want the frame cover entire page.
that because of z-index, see my explanation: https://discussions.apple.com/message/7431333#7431333
when you add text box/shape, it lands inside body_layer, body_layer has higher z-index than nav_layer.
to have the frame from the top of the page, you have to stretch the text box/shape over nav bar and that will nav bar to cease functioning. also you can not stretch it down over footer_layer, iweb won't let you.
    my method:
    1) show layout so you can see the layers: menu bar --> view --> show layout or command + shift +l
    2) add a text box.
    3) hold down command and drag it into nav bar area (nav_layer), you'll see it hilite.
    4) size it, add frame/stroke and send it to back menu bar --> arrange --> send to back or command + shift + b
    5) finally add my javascript juice: http://temp.cyclosaurus.com/revolving/CodeInject.html

  • Add frame to photo

Hi I have a picture of my great-granddaughter and would like to place a frame around it. I was able to use the magic extractor to isolate the part I wanted, but can not seem to figure out how to access the frames and/or the backgrounds I want. Please, can someone help me. I need step by step instruction. Thanks Nadine

    Nadine,
Here is a way to make your own frame if you don't like any of the built-in ones.
    http://www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1Wtv9zTHYA1bm5jvUBftlyasptvlAM0
    Method 1
    1. Set Background color to default white. (see Note 1)
    2. Image>Resize>Canvas Size, and increase Height and Width by the same absolute amount (not percent, see Note 2). This creates a white frame.
    3. Select the frame using the Magic Wand tool with the Contiguous box checked.
    4. Add new layer.
    5. Set Foreground color to frame color.
    6. Edit>Fill, using Foreground Color option.
    7. Window>Layer Styles. Choose a Bevels styles (a good one is Simple Sharp Inner).
    8. To modify the bevel, double-click the "f" symbol in the Layer's palette, or from the menu bar Layer>Layer Style>Style Settings. You can also modify the bevel via Layer>Layer Style>Scale Effects.
If you want the frame inside the picture (not expanding the canvas):
    1. Use the Rectangular Marquee tool to draw out the frame.
    2. Invert the selection.
    3. Proceed with step 4. above.
Note 1: The Background color can be anything as long as does not match any color on the border of the picture; the goal is that when you use the Magic Wand it doesn't select anything within the picture. That's also why you check the Contiguous box.
Note 2: If the picture is not square, expanding the canvas by a percent rather than absolute value will result in the top/bottom borders a different width than the left/right borders.
    Method 2
    1. Duplicate Background layer, or rename Background layer. The purpose is to create the transparent frame in the next step.
    2. Image>Resize>Canvas Size, and increase Height and Width by the same amount. This creates a transparent frame.
    3. Ctrl-click the picture in the Layers Palette to select just the picture, and invert so that the frame is now selected.
Remaining steps same as Method 1.

  • Forever Theme Frames around drop zone pictures - can I remove them?

I'm using the forever theme. There are frames around drop zone photo's - not buttons. I've tried hitting the buttons bar with the drop zone highlighted and clicking the none button - but it stays with a white boarder around it. So - i looked in the theme contents - but I don't find anything that looks like a white frame... I checked out the plist file -and it looked all compiled - funny script and all - any way to eliminate these frames? I use a lot of transparent gifs for the purpose that I don't want a frame around them - so they just float over the background.

    Does this help?
    From the iDvd Help Menu:
Repositioning an image or movie in a drop zone
When you drag a picture or movie into a drop zone, the aspect ratio of the image is preserved, but it is scaled larger or smaller to fill the drop zone. As a result, sometimes part of the image is cut off and does not appear in the drop zone. In this case, you can move the image to choose which portion is visible in the drop zone.
To reposition an image or movie in a drop zone:
1.) From the drop zone on the menu (not in the drop zone editor), click the image or movie and press Command.
2.) Drag the image until the part you want is visible in the drop zone.
Keep these things in mind as you position an image:
If you drag a narrow image to a drop zone, the image is scaled vertically, and you can move the image up or down only.
If you drag a wide image to a drop zone, the image is scaled horizontally, and you can move the image side to side only.
If you accidentally drag the image too far, you will remove it from the drop zone. (The cursor changes from a hand to a puff of smoke.) Choose Edit > Undo to restore the image to the drop zone.
Repositioning a movie in a drop zone is different from selecting which part of a movie shows in a drop zone (which allows you to select which frame of the movie is displayed in a drop zone). For more information, see Related Topics below.

I want to place a 3 x 5 image on a 4 x 6 photo paper with a frame around the image. Directions referenced graphics (for Holidaze), can someone help me find those? I've already cropped the image to 3 x 5 and set the canvas to 4 x 6.

  • Gold frame around thumbnail?

What does a gold (or yellow?) frame around a thumbnail indicate? I see this on only one photo in a group, in both Develop and Library modes. (Using Lightroom 1.4.1, Windows XP)
    Thanks in advance -

In Library View Options (CTRL J is shortcut) there is an option to "Tint Grid Cells with Label colors". To prove that it is indeed this, either turn the option off
    or
with that thumbnail selected, apply a different label using the commands on the toolbar (just below the grid) or using keypad keys 6,7,8,9. Does the frame change when you do this?

  • Disable/remove black frame around document

Is there anyway to temporary disable the black frame around a document?
Sometimes when I design it irritates me to have this frame. Of course I can make a larger document, but sometimes I realize the document isn't large enough and I want to go outside the frame and then it would be nice to temporary remove it.
By the way, is there a way to change the size of a document once it's created?

    Joan,
    View>Hide Artboard.
You can always File>Document Setup and change different things. In newer versions, you can use the Artboard Tool.

    Hi MyAppleID99,
You may want to check to make sure the clip hasn't been moved back and forth between wide screen and standard aspect ratios; sometimes a combination of letterboxing and pillarboxing can lead to a black frame "windowbox" when playing the final video. You may find the following article helpful:

  • I had completed my iDVD project and burned a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the project and put a red frame around the opening screen. Now when I burn the project, it no longer has the opening frame. How can I fix?

I had completed my iDVD project, a Wedding Slideshow with pictures and music, and burned it on a disc. It worked great! Then someone messed with the original project on my computer and clicked around and put a red frame around the opening screen that has the Wedding theme with music. Now when I burn the project to make more DVDs, it burns but no longer has the opening frame. It immediately opens to the iMovie slideshow. How can I fix so I can burn the entire project with opening frames?

As Bengt suggested make a disk image of the successfully burned DVD using Disk Utility. Then you can burn copies any time you need one.
In the future once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
You can then burn it to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
