Nice Small App To Keep MacBook Pro Running With Lid Closed

Found a nice little app, NoSleep that keeps the MacBook Pro running even when the lid is shut, so I use it alone with Caffeine and MacLock. I had found that my system was crashing on a continuing basis and with No Sleep it hasn't.

  • Why has my 8x8 desktop app on my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosimite 10.10.1 suddenly stopped working while the app on my iPhone and the online service both work fine?

Why has my 8x8 desktop app on my Macbook Pro running OS X Yosimite 10.10.1 suddenly stopped working while the app on my iPhone and the online service both work fine? Is this because of some recent software update by Apple? 8x8 support acknowledges issues with no current work-arounds? The 8x8 desktop app worked until early December, then quit. I've deleted and re-downloaded the app, but no difference.

    The solution is :
    1. Delete iPhone configuration utility. Just drop it to the trash
    2. Run
    sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/com.apple.pkg.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.*
    rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoneConfigurationUtility.plist*
    3. Delete the whole folder: /System/Library/Extensions/AppleUSBEthernetHost.kext
    4. Reinstall iTunes (just over the previous one)
    5. Restart

  • How do you keep macbook pro running quickly

I always thought that using a MAC would eliminate the need to re-image a machine like you have to do with Windows. However, my recently purchased MacBook Pro 13" retina display with 8Gb RAM, 3Ghz i7 processor is already beginning to slow down - just like a Windows laptop. I have used MacKeeper in the past, and that has improved the performance of previous MacBook Air's that I had. However, I have been warned off MacKeeper (anyone have any evidence that this is a real, solid, non-invasive application that is safe to run?).
Just need some help in how to keep this great machine humming - it's only 2 months old!
    Thanks

Basically... Make sure you have enough Free Hard Drive space for your Mac to Perform as expected...
This is what Apple has to say.

Mac OS X: About background maintenance tasks

  • How to keep MacBook Pro running ...

    Hi everyone!!
New to MAC world,  bought it 2 months ago, I want  to keep my MAC running fast and smooth as it is right now, WHAT IS THE BEST WAY to keep it that way?
I have search around blogs, ppl have different point of view.
Someone said  all I need is to follow this:
    1 Make redundants backups
    2. Keep your software up to dat
    3. Don't install crapware,
    4. Beware of trojan
I have read ppl say  MACs don't really need mantenace, few if any, THEN others says they need maintenance.
If they dont really need maintenance, how do old files get rid of itself?
I need to know what is the best program or what should I do to clean old files or unwanted files out of the system to keep it clean and fast.
Sorry if this has been posted before.
    Thank you!

I've had my mac for 3 years and it is just as speedy as the first day and have done nothing on my own.  It takes care of itself.  It's a good idea to restart it at least once a month to dump the cache.  What old files are you referring to?  I delete the old ones I no longer need.

  • Running with lid closed, no external monitor?

Is it possible to run with the display closed without having an external monitor connected? Closing the display without external monitor hooked up always seems to cause computer to go to sleep. Do they do this for heat reasons?

It is just a feature when you close the lid the comp goes to sleep. If you have a external keyboard have you attempted to wake your laptop by pressing a few keys? I know this will wake the laptop if you have a external monitor connected, you may also just click the mouse button to.

  • 10.4.10 problem running with lid closed

Installed 10.4.10 last night, and now I'm having a problem running with the lid closed.
Every day at work, I connect my PowerBook G4 1.33GHz to an external display and USB keyboard/mouse (through a USB hub). I have plenty of room on the external display so I don't use the attached LCD panel - I just close the lid and tuck the computer under the monitor riser. It takes a couple seconds for everything to "adjust" when I connect all the hardware (screen turns on and off once or twice), but it always settled down within 10-15 seconds.
After installing 10.4.10, this configuration is totally unusable. After the external display wakes up, I only have a few usable seconds before the computer goes back to sleep. I can wake it again immediately by moving the mouse or hitting a key on the keyboard, but it never stays awake.
I've tried two different USB hubs as well as directly connecting the keyboard and mouse to the laptop, but I get the same behavior in all cases. If I open the lid, the LCD panel comes on and everything works fine (I can use the USB keyboard/mouse and the external display).
Has anyone had a similar problem since updating to 10.4.10? Like a fool, I rushed right into installing the update without doing a backup, so I'm stuck unless the problem gets fixed or I do a rebuild with 10.4.9.

  • MacBook Pro Running With Yosemite Isn't Seeing Photosmart 7525

Things I've done: Restarted the laptopReset the printing systemRepaired the disk permisssion in disk utilityPrinted wireless network test results The printer is connected to the internet wirelessly and can see all available wireless networks, so I know that's not the issue.

Hi , Welcome back to the HP Support Forums! I see you are not able to print to your HP Photosmart 7525, because your Mac running the Yosemite 10.10 Operating system is not seeing the wireless printer. I see you have done a few things with no success. Let's go ahead and try a different approach although some steps may need to be repeated please do ALL in order: Scrub/ Uninstall • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall. Reset Printing System 1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…4. Click OK to confirm the reset.5. Type the correct Name and Password.6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.. Repair Disk Permissions 1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.2.Double-click Disk Utility.3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions: HP Officejet Pro 8600 series Full Feature Software and Drivers Now, if you are still unable to see the Printer, continue here: Printing Over a Wireless Network with Apple's AirPrint FAQs, check out the 'No air printers found' section. I hope this helps, please let me know the outcome! Thanks,

  • HT5275 My Safari is not opening on my Macbook Pro running with OS X Lion. What can I do?

I need help! I snt the report to apple but seems like nothing is happening. What can I do to fix the issue with the Safari?
    Please, help!

    10.7 Lion.
Restart your computer, holding down the “D” key while the computer restarts.
After your computer restarts, you should see the Apple Hardware Test chooser screen. If you don’t, Apple Hardware Test may not be available on your computer. You may be able to start Apple Hardware Test from the Internet. Reconnect your computer to the network, and then restart your computer while holding down both the Option and “D” keys.
The above written paragraph is from Apple kb article.
Hold down both the Option and D keys while restarting the computer.
Computer is still under warranty. It is a good idea to make use of it.
    Best.

  • I have a MacBook Pro running mac osx 10.8, Screen saver keeps reverting to national geographic photos.

I have a MacBook Pro running mac osx 10.8, Screen saver keeps reverting to national geographic photos.

Just found this solution on another website. I tried it and it works. No more polar bears and Savannahs!
Apparently if you put it in the folder called "Desktop Pictures" it will work.
So, copy whatever folder of pictures you would like to use as your screensaver and then go to:
    Macintosh HD>Library > Desktop Pictures
Paste your folder into this folder called "Desktop Pictures".
You may have to enter the administrator code (the password you use to open your mac usually).
Then, go back to System Preferences, go to Desktop and Screensaver, click on the Screensaver tab on the top, go to the drop down menu beside "Source" (under the picture) and click on "Choose Folder". Navigate to the Macintosh HD>Library>Desktop Pictures and then click on the folder you just pasted in there. Click "Choose" and you're all set.
