Have you set one of your IMAP based email accounts to have its notes displayed in the Notes app ? Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , tap on your email account on the right-hand side and set Notes to 'On' - you will then be able to set that email account to be the default account for new notes.

Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
With BlackBerry® 5.0 software the lock icon is only displayed when a passord is set, to lock the keyboard, press and hold the A/* key, and unlock by holding Play/Pause key.

Go to Settings, iCloud, and then Storage and Backup. You will then see a button to backup your iPad. It may be that you have much stuff (i.e. photos, apps) for it to do a full backup but you will be able to tell what the estimated backup should be and what it will consist of so that you can choose to prune down items. If you don't want to backup and get rid of the messages you can just turn backup off from this area as well.

Where are you looking for it? If you don't have it, then reinstall Yosemite.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Unplug whatever other devices you also have plugged into USB, and try again. Better not to plug the iPhone into a USB hub.

A quick run down for other readers.
Generally speaking iChat versions have number one less than the OS version they go with.
So iChat 3 comes in OS X 10.4.x
iChat 4 comes in OS X 10.5.x and so on.
Messages continues the same numbering system Starting at version 7 in OS X 10.8
Messages 8 comes with Mavericks (OS X 10.9.x)
iChat Updates come with the OS Updates but not at every occasion.
In OS X 10.5 for example iChat 4 gets to version 4.0.9
Messages 7 gets one update during all the OS X 10.8 updates to be version 7.0.1 at the "end"
However Apple seemed to have stopped this sub numbering in Messages (it is at build three in OS X 10.9.4)
Throughout it is important that the iChat or Messages version "matches" the OS X level it is supposed to go with.
Reinstalling earlier iChat version for Install Disks then requires you run the Combo update of the OS version you are using.
You cannot do this after Apple use the App Store to Upgrade/Update and you need to Reinstall the whole OS.

Are you running iOS 5 on the iPad? Go to Settings>General>About>Version. Does it show that you have iOS 5 on the iPad? If not, you have to update your iPad to iOS 5 - in order to have the Messages app on the device.

Is it in your applications folder (look in UTILITIES)?
If not, reinstall the OSX.

From what I was told the iPhone 5 doesn't this capability. U would think that would be one of the basic features of the phone. I switched from an Android and now pretty much regret it. Android has so many more features than the apple. Only thing I like better is the iPhone is alot faster otherwise Android has it beat. If there is a blinking light notification I would sure like to know about it.

I"m guessing you're used to having iChat in the Dock. It should still be in the Applications folder. either drag it to the dock or create an alias and drag that to the dock (I think that means some form of right or left clicking on the app, and make alias should come up). If not, then I dunno
just a guess on this one...I didn't quite understand the question (maybe it's just me, though)
