Nightblade Z97 and 980 GTX card and other questions

Hello there,
I'm planning on building a Nightblade Z97 rig. I'm not an expert, so a barebones system will be a good starting point. I'm also not planning to OC much so I'll go intel + nvidia with it.
My questions is if the motherboard can take the new geforce 980 and also if it will work with a water cooling fan for the CPU (like corsair H80i) connected to the side panel.
Anyway, I'd appreciated some guidance on that!

Hi,
Yes motherboard will work fine with GTX980.
Not sure about H80i fitting in this at all, looks like it could fit side panel. I suggest you ask MSI techie about it, they're able to answer this straight away:

  • MacBook Pro 13" Hard Drive and other questions

    Hi there,
    I've just purchased a 13" MBP which I absolutely love but have a few questions about upgrading it. I want to swap out the hard drive for a larger capacity but just want to make sure I purchase one that will fit.
    I'll number the questions for ease of answering.
    1. Will this hard drive be correct? I know it's a 2.5" SATA but I didn't know if the dimensions are ok for the 13" MBP.
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/WD-Scorpio-Black-WD3200BJKT-internal/dp/B001FBJJQ4
    2. Will the difference between a 7200rpm 16MB cache drive and a 5400rpm 8mb cache drive be noticeable? I can get a 500gb slower speed drive for the same price and while the capacity increase would be useful, I would prefer a faster drive if it's noticeable.
    Many thanks

    That article I believe to be incorrect! The author never mentions which Scorpio drive....Blue or Black. The Blue does not contain a free fall sensor option as the Black is available with our without free fall sensor. The free fall sensor will interfere with the Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS) built into the Mac. SMS can be disabled but my experience first hand with the Scorpio Black in my MBP 13 was not good even after disabling the SMS and merely using the free fall sensor in the Black. If you want a 7200 RPM drive and you like West Dig get the Black without the free fall sensor. You will be much happier. I run the Black in several Windows Laptops and it streams fast then the 7200.4 which I also have in a windows laptop and the scorpio black performed better and more stable! I just dont think I personal would not use it on the MBP 13...I took mine out for it was problematic!! If you want a 500 GB go with the Fujitsu or the Hitachi...even the the Western Dig Scorpio Blue with does not have a free fall sensor. The author of that article mentioned ShockGuard that is not a Free Fall sensor and only engages durring spin up or down as well as parks when it is off. This does not sense a fall like the SMS or a built in free fall sensor. Many MBP unibody owner have used the Blue and it has been hugely successful!!! My experience which is very extensive with Seagate as of late has not been favorable. I do not like the latest generation of drives they are producing we are seeing extensive failures (higher % compared to other OEMs). Stick with those three.
    If you want battery life, the Fujitsu or Hitachi are very good choices Fujitsu being a little better
    For speed the WD Blue is best on synthetic tests but it is a little power hungry. I am sticking with the Fujitsu in real world test it seemed to do better than the others...H2Benchw it wasnt as good. PCmark it did very well. The Gaming, Video and other test it seemed to do well on but not as good in the h2Benchw.

  • Windows File compatibility, my iPod, and other questions

    After years of gripping about doing Video and Photo editing on my PC, I am considering switching to a Mac. But, given I have a heavy investment in PC hardware, I want to make sure I can leverage everything the best way possible. So...
    1.) I have a 20GB clickwheel iPod...any problem using this with a Mac? Need to be reformatted or anything?
    2.) Can you access ActiveX based websites without problems?
    3.) I have a Windows XP machine with 4 drives in RAID format. Could I use this as a common storage network drive for both Mac and PC's at the same time (for instance, store MP3's on it, and access and play them from either the iMac and other Windows PC's without a problem?). What about jpg formatted pictures? Any nuances between PC and Mac formats? (or is jpg really just jpg on either machine...I can open up the same picture on a Mac and a PC and see the exact same picture, without major color changes, etc.).
    I realize I need to reformat to FAT, but other than that, are their other problems I should know about? (I would like to use the RAID configuration to make sure I don't lose any data)
    That should start for now...
    Thanks - Jeff

  • EXSP24 in LE7 and other questions

    I have worked out that the sampler instrument editor in LE7 has been removed which is kinda an odd upgrade from Logic Audio 6 imo. If i have this wrong please let me know.
    So how do I go about adding in new instruments from sample cd's etc??
    I am used to running Logic Audio 6 on my old Imac in System 9 so the new or apparent lack of Logic Folders etc is quite bizarre for me. So if anyone can also throw me some pointers on:
    1: Using Reason adapted for Recycle as a rewired instrument in LE7 (I have a feeling this is not possible)
    2: Using Absynth within LE7
    3: Will something like Kontakt run in LE7?
    4: Rewiring Logic into Live or vice versa.
    So many questions
    Thanks
    Paul

    You can't edit EXSP24 instruments but you can import several formats:
    Akai, Soudfonts, Giga, SampleCell and DLS.
    To create your own patches you need some external apps like this:
    http://www.redmatica.com/Site/Pages/KM.php
    About other questions and supposing that you don't have a Intel Mac:
    1. Yes, you can.
    2. Logic uses plugins in Audio Unit format; if you have an older version of Absynth you should upgrade to a newer one.
    3. Same as above,
    4. Logic can act as Rewire host only so you can rewire Live to Logic but not Logic to Live.

  • Pixel Bender custom multiply blend and other questions

    I am creating photo editing application on iPad and i am using Pixel Bender to calculate effects. But ive got a problem with multiply blend mode.When i run it in CPU/GPU mode, it runs fine(result looks absolutly 1:1 as from photoshop). But when i switch to Flash Player mode, it dont want to render properly. I dont get any compilation errors. Ive got also some other questions:
    1.How does PB performs on iOS ?
    2.If my problem is becouse of  incapability of FP, is there any other solution to this ? I cant afford AS3.0 computing, becouse it is really slow even on PC.
    3. Can be Pixel Bender 3D sollution to this ? If yes, when will it come out to iOS ?
    4. How are filters computed in FP ? CPU or GPU ?
    here, you can see the difference : http://ponozka.php5.cz/gpuMode.jpg  http://ponozka.php5.cz/flashMode.jpg

            dst.b = pix.b -pix.b * (1.0-(pix2.b))*param.b*pix2.a*param.a;
            dst.a = 1.0;

    Ok, so i already know, that CPU/GPU and flash are giving different results. So lets have a situation, where you need to display transparent image without transparency. On GPU/CPU, you will need only this :
    dst.r = src.r;
    dst.g = src.g;
    dst.b = src.b;
    dst.a = 1.0;
    but for flash, you will need this :
    dst.r = (1.0/src.a)*src.r;
    dst.g = (1.0/src.a)*src.g;
    dst.b = (1.0/src.a)*src.b;
    dst.a = 1.0;
    First kernel on GPU will show the exact same result as second kernel on flash. But the question remains : is it bug ?

  • Is the disk equal to log files and other questions?

    In the web page http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/berkeley-db/je/GettingStartedGuide/introduction.html#dplfeatures, there is a statement, " The checkpointer is responsible for flushing database data to *disk* that was written to cache as the result of a transaction commit ".
    I wonder if the disk here means log files under the JE home directory.
    From my understanding of these documents and other web resources, the check pointer is to write records in Cache to Log files (disk), and then cleaner is to reorganize and then to remove unused log files. For the records in a Cache, they are brought from disk to Cache by querying the index organized in a B-Tree structure, and the In-Compressor is to delete some empty internal nodes of B-Tree.
    I wonder if the above is right to describe relations among these components, check pointer, cleaner, B-Tree and In-Compressor.
    Thanks for your help!

  • New Droid Turbo takes forever to load pictures on social media? ...and other questions!

    Hey all, I just got my new Droid Turbo a week ago and I've noticed some shortcomings that I'm not sure how to handle. They're not major, but they irritate me. I'll just list them...
    -On social media (Instagram and Facebook specifically), the pages load fine but most/all of the pictures take nearly a minute or more to load, if they load at all. Never had an issue with Samsung or previous Motorola phones doing this.
    -I occasionally get a popup error that "Contacts has stopped" even when I'm not accessing it or the program is closed (it usually happens when I'm making a call).
    -I have a setting to make my Gmail mail sync automatically, but it doesn't always do it, and the phone is supposed to notify me but only does it sometimes.
    -How to make "folders" in photo Gallery?
    -Google Play music is synced, but doesn't play AT ALL...just "thinks."
    I think that's all I have for now. Sorry it's so much, but I appreciate any help you all have! Thanks!!
    *Lauren*

    Congratulations on your new Droid Turbo. We'd love to help make sure your new phone is working properly. For the photos in Instagram and Facebook, Is it that some photos appear and others do not? How are photos in other applications or different websites? As for the Gmail sync, have you checked the settings under Gmail to ensure the sync options are set to your preference. In regards to the folders for the gallery, folders are usually created on their own and based on where pictures are created. For the Play Music, what happens when you try to play songs?

  • GTX 770 Lightning vBios recovery and other questions

    Hey I was just wondering, is 70C too hot becau- Just kidding.  Haha, gotcha.
    Actual Question: I was messing about flashing higher and higher power/memory/clock settings and I went too high. Just as I get to the betta fish loading logo (I'm using the 8.1 preview) the screen goes black but does not sleep and I'm stuck there. So now I get to use the LN2 switch to boot, (I JUST researched LN2 and realized what I've been missing) but how do I flash a Normal mode vbios when I can only run in LN2 mode?
    Also, just to be 100% safe: A UEFI/GOP vBios is backward compatible with a legacy MB right? I want to make sure I have a vbios to boot with. MY actual computer is an obnoxious Inspiron 546 from 2009... yea. I'm just borrowing this rig. The 770 is MINE though.
    Another issue I cannot understand is that whenever I reach 99% GPU usage under ANY (Normal) vBios settings in ANY game with ANY driver the game freezes and crashes and MSI afterburner occasionally reports something crazy like 90129374% Power in a spike. I was actually trying to work around that by overclocking so much I'd never reach 99% GPU usage, but it still spikes for a split second and crashes me.
    Finally, I'm highly curious about this vbios entry on techpowerup http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/141424/msi-gtx770-2048-130605.html The other two MSI GTX770 Lightning vbios's on this page http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/index.php?manufacturer=MSI&model=GTX+770 are the Normal and LN2 vbios's as it states at the bottom, but that third one says nothing on the bottom, and to further increase curiosity the version number has a more significant change in it. Has something been updated?
    Oooh yes, one last thing. I've think I might have come across a bug in Svets vBios Tuner (2.49h). I can't set any P*state  higher than 2040 because I get a 'wrong parameter' error with anything above that. I used Kepler Bios Tweaker 1.25 to set it to 2104 and that worked, but appears as 4 in both Kepler Bios tweaker and Svets Tuner after that.
    I know this is a lot of questions at once here, but I tend to save 'em up for a while. Thank you in advance. -Eli

    but how do I flash a Normal mode vbios when I can only run in LN2 mode?
    If you have a non-nvidia vga left you can install it besides the lightning and use it for primary display. Then just use nvflash as usual to reflash a normal vbios (of course card needs to be switched to normal) and it will flash the nvidia adapter it finds (the Lightning). If you only have another Nvidia card left you'd have to identify the adapters name you want to flash (type nvflash --list and all adapters are listed). If then wanting to flash add the adapter name before the file to flash, e.g.: nvflash i1 vbios.rom (assuming i1 is the Lightning's name and vbios.rom is the name of the file to flash). Nvflash will then just flash the Lightning.
    If you have no other vga you are out of luck. A PC-Shop can recover it for you.

    Also, just to be 100% safe: A UEFI/GOP vBios is backward compatible with a legacy MB right?
    If the board is really legacy bios (no UEFI at all) then theoretically yes. Of course the board needs to be compatible to the latest GTX770 series cards. Old mainboards might run into compatibility issues apart from the vbios.

    Then your card is for whatever reason not stable (e.g. insufficient power supply, software issue, too much cpu overclock or simply the card not making factory settings - rma issue -).

    Don't download vbioses from third party sites. The uploaders mostly have no clue of these files themselves. There is nothing newer than you got from Svet. Don't experiment.

  • Can I partially spend a gift card, and other questions on gift card limitations

    I have several questions:
    1) Is it possible to only partially spend a gift card, and save the rest for another time?
    2) Within what time frame does teh card needs to be spend?
    3) Can I buy a gift card in an apple store in China, and then spend it on a UK app store account?
    4) iTunes has an app store where gift cards can be redeemed. Can gift cards be redeemed with the Mac App store as well for Mac software purchases?
    5) Can the gift card be used for Apple Store purchases?
    6) If one gift card's funds is insufficient for a purchase, can the difference be paid with a second gift card?
    7) What are the limitations to spending a gift card, is it just the funds, or also a quantity of apps?
    Honestly, I would expect Apple to have a support section that clarifies this, but I can't find it by browsing the Apple website.

    Thanks guys,
    So in addition to your information I found some more data that helps clarify why e.g. China cards cannot be spend in a UK iTunes app store. Not sure I agree, or approve, and quite sure that Apple looses money this way, but it is what it is.
    However, I wonder if this is a workaround:
    Ok, so I got a UK iTunes account. I read here that it is possible to change country/region for an account. So... if I were to change my country/region to China, and THEN buy an iTunes gift card, can I then spend that using my relocated-to-China account in the iTunes store? And then, what would happen if I then subsequently change back to the UK?

  • New To AE from Motion (FCP) - timeline and other questions (PREVIEW)

    Okay, so like your normal person, I just install and open a template and delve into it seeing what can happen.
    So far, I learned that you need an update for macbook pro (opengl), no problem, downloaded and all is fine.
    However, I did notice something that coming from a Motion POV, I am not used to....
    If I open a template, I notice that the time line plays back about 200 milliseconds or 5 seconds to play about 1 second of video. Is there a way to make it realtime? Also, it seems as if it needs to be rendered when you play back on the timeline (green bar). Is there a way to play in realtime? Surely the newer Macs are fast enough to play back in realtime.
    Last, for now, what is the best training for this application? Lynda.com, books, other video resources?
    Thanks.

    >I think that makes sense since it is going to RAM.
    Yes, it does. To not "loose" the frames, enable the disk cache. This will dump frames that cannot be held in RAM, so they are available for spacebar playback and faster generation of successive RAM previews
    >Nonetheless, regardless of the settings, I could not get it to play in >realtime at all.
    Check the info panel and see if indeed it is as you say. If the issue persists, search this forum. There is tons of things that can screw RT abilities from incorrect graphics card configs to audio or certain QT CoDecs.
    >Surely this can't be the case is it?
    It can. Once more: you are letting your confusion get in the way of seeing things for what they are. AE is a program that still does most of its stuff in software running on the CPU, not your graphics card like it does in Motion. It functions on different principles. Effects have to explicitly be written to use hardware acceleration, which only a limited number of them do and then again, they will revert to software-only mode if you stack a number of effects that exhaust your graphics card resources or combine them with non-accelerated effects.
    This is no different than what happens in Motion when you use a given number of layers with blendmodes, distortion effects etc.. that can no longer be processed in realtime. At that point it actually behaves much worse than AE since it lacks the fallback software routines. It seems, that you just never work with anything remotely complex and thus never have reached that point, which would explain your disappointment and frustrations with AE. If you are not willing to understand the conceptual differences, it will forever be that way.
    I can only once more urge you to not see as a replacement for Motion as a background and title generator, but as a flexible, resolution independent compositing and effects package that does so much more, but at the cost of buying this flexibility with more generalised, software-only routines. You may see this differently and never use AE as deeply as some other people, but this is just how it is.

  • Default values and other questions about MIO-PCI-16E-1

    Hi, I have a few questions involving the above mentioned board.
    First: When doing a data acquisition using an external digital trigger and an external clock, which edge of the clock signal is read by default?
    What is the delay between a STARTSCAN signal being received and a CONVERT signal being generated (signifying an ADC convertion taking place?)
    Finally, what exactly is the sample interval counter? What does it do? This is mentioned on page 4-32 in the E Series DAQ user manual.
    Hopefully these questions aren't too stupid We're designing some custom circuitry to work with the DAQ, and for things to work the timing must be precise. We need ALL the timing details about a single data acquisition t
    hat we can get.
    The system we're running on has Labview 6.0.2, and we are only acquiring data from one analog input.
    Thanks a ton!
    --Randall Cameron

    Hey Randall,
    The internal Scan Clock is a rising edge clock, if you are interested in having the rising edge clock output as high until a scan is complete, please refer here. The internal Convert Clock is always falling edge clock.
    If you are using an external signal, you can specify the polarity of the signal by selecting PFI pin, high to low, or low to high, if you are using the Clock Config VI. The method for setting the polarity changes based on the method of programming the card. And again, I do not know what the digital trigger defaults to, but you can select either polarity.
    The delay between a Scan and a Convert is based on the Convert Clock.
    Ideally, the delay is in the nanosecond range, and then the Convert Clock determines the spacing between any further samples.
    As for the sample interval counter, the following is pasted from page 4-35.
    The sample interval counter on the PCI E Series device normally generates
    the CONVERT* signal unless you select some external source. The counter
    is started by the STARTSCAN signal and continues to count down and
    reload itself until the scan is finished. It then reloads itself in preparation for
    the next STARTSCAN pulse.
    So just let us know if you have any questions on getting the polarity set up, or if anything is not fully explained.
    Best regards,
    Justin T.

  • Windows Vista 64bit OS, NVIDIA and other questions.

    I have a few questions I hope someone can answer.
    Can I run 64bit Vista in Bootcamp?
    If I wipe my harddisk and install 64bit vista and have a Windows only machine would that allow me to use different NVIDIA grpahics cards such as 9600GT?
    I would imagine that the limitation of graphics cards are only due to driver compatability with MAC and qualification process?
    If I wish to expand storage are there any sub 1TB drives that can use a 32MB cache? It seems only the 1TB/32MB cache is qualified with MAC. Is this another limitation that I could get round by running Vista 64bit.
    I am not trying to start a flame war. I am only looking for sensible answers.
    Thank you.

    Can I run 64bit Vista in Bootcamp?
    Yes. Both the computer and OS X are fully 64-bit compliant.
    You can install a second video card that does not work with OS X but does work with Windows. Third-party video cards do not work with OS X because they do not have the EFI boot ROM required by OS X. They will, however, work when you boot into Windows. You do not need to convert the Mac Pro to a Windows-only machine which would seem a waste of perfectly good hardware and software.
    You can install any SATA hard drive in the Mac Pro. There is no limitation with regard to size. Cache, however, is a feature of the drive and not the computer. Apple does not "qualify" drives for use with the computer.
    These questions have been discussed in the Mac Prp fourms so I suggest you search the forums for other discussions of the topics.

  • IPhoto book: Can I use less than 20 pages? and other questions...

    Is 20 pages the minimum? I have just eleven photos. Is there a workaround for this? Also, the iPhoto preview looks fine, but I'm wondering what the file specs need to be. My original files are approx. 15 MB TIFF. Should they be jpeg? Resized? Does iPhoto (or Kodak) do this automatically? Thanks for any help.

    TW3:
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. 20 pages is the minimum. I think it's due to the minimum number of pages that can be bound. I really doesn't matter about the tiff files as iPhoto creates a PDF file for uploading and printing. Just be sure they are RBG and not CMYK.
    Do you Twango?
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

    1. in the phone specs its says "microSD memory card slot, hot swappable, max. 4 GB" (note that it does not say sdhc), yet in the compatible accessories the "Nokia 8 GB microSDHC Card MU-43" is listed. What gives? Is the phone compatible with sdhc at all? Is it compatible with 16gb cards. Is it compatible with "class 6" (faster) sdhc?
    2. During video playback the button stay illuminated which is quite unnecessary for long clips. Is there a way to disable it?
    3. Can a normal (3pole) stereo jack be used with the phone? Will the radio function when doing so? Is there a way to listen to the radio from the speaker?
    4. Can the phone display 30fps mp4 or is it down sampled (perhaps due to display limitations) . Can the phone handle mp4 with higher than 320x240 resolution (not that it makes any sense to encode them at larger resolutions).
    Thanks in advance
    PS. As a note to anyone looking to buy this phone, have to say then I am, so far, very happy with it. I bought it mainly as multimedia device and even movie watching on the 2.2 screen is very comfortable all things considering. Recommend to anyone on an average budget not wanting to sacrifice small form factor for media capability.

    hi there,
    to answer your questions:
    1. all phones that suppor the microSDHC standard will take these memory cards up to a theoretical maximum of 32gb (these cards are not available yet, highest is 16gb). so the 6303 will accept 16gb cards, the only issue that would be present is if the correct amount of free space/used space on the memory card is displayed correctly by the phone. however, nokia has been doing a good job lately with their firmware updates so fully-fledged support for 16gb cards is usually taken care of.
    2. i am guessing this has something to do with the power saver features, i too had the same behaviour on my previous 5610, the lights on the slider key would remain illuminated while watching videos. so to turn this off, you will have to change the power saver and light effects etc in the phone/profile settings.
    3. my normal 3 pole stereo jack, what exactly do you mean by this. do u mean 3.5mm audio jack? i thought it already had a normal 3.5mm audio jack? the radio function requires headphones/earphones to be plugged in as a headset, as the wiring acts as the antenna. there should be a way to listen to radio through the speaker of the phone, however you do require the headphones to be plugged in as they act as the antenna. when you are in the radio application, the option to play via loudspeaker should present.
    4. i am unsure about the video playback capabilities of the phone, although a lot of the newer Series40 devices seem to be able to play mp4 at 30fps. however, i cannot vouch for this with certainty. i am also no expert regarding video conversion. however, i do think it requires 240 x 320 resolution and cannot play higher-resolution video, as it will need to be converted into the appropriate format first.
    hope this answers your questions somewhat.
