Nightmare....HELP!!

today, I plugged in my nano to download tunes....the window would NOT come up. I had to find the file and continue to try and bring it up. Unplugged and plugged in the nano several times in order to see if it would be recognized....nope!!!!! I accessed Itunes online since I couldn't get in by using my nano.....I tried to download the lastest version. The message comes up stating that 'itunes.msi' path is not found. I ran a search on my system....nothing. I put in the disk for my old shuffle since that is the only disk for itunes that I have....it tried to uninstall but found an error and couldn't complete the task....my music is still intact, but I am unable to download anything onto the shuffle....nothing is working....please help!!!

I have never heard of an international mobile phone calling plan that offers $0.09/minute rates.  However I seem to remember that Verizon does offer land line rates in that neighborhood.  Are you absolutely certain that you don't have these services confused?  Surely you have a copy of the sales transaction that you received when you purchased the service (I have received such a sales receipt for every service I've purchased from Verizon, and that covers many purchases).
I travel internationally and often for months at a time.  I use an unlocked phone with a local international SIMM card, and even though this is perhaps the most economical method for using a mobile phone for international calls, it's still quite costly and nowhere near the rate you quoted.  I must conclude that the offer you described does not seem to make sense in today's telecommunications market.  However I sincerely hope you can come to a satisfactory resolution with your carrier.  I can still feel the pain of my $800 plus bills from Bermuda and Turkey, but in fact I did make the calls, and I did have to pay up.  Good luck.

    I have tried for two days to install/set up this wireless HP Photosmart D110.
    I finally got a Wireless Network Test Report stating no problems found.  Succesful setup of wireless printer.  However,  on my laptop it states that the printer could not be found on my wireless network.  It suggests, instead, that I use a USB port and try to set it up later.
    What is going to make it easier or even possible to set it up later?  And what was the point of my buying a wireless printer/scanner/copier???

    Be very careful when you phone HP help desk. It's a very expensive ph number.  i've clocked up £40 worth of phone calls and they won't refund you. When you actually speak to someone they're very helpful and friendly and will probably be able to solve your problem. I've been very unlucky in that after 4 replacement printers I still get the same error message but they don't know what's causing it. Will avoid HP in future I think. Try and phone from somewhere where 0871 numbers are free. Good luck. Helpline is 08717814294.

    Any helpful hints on working on a 50% black background? All Illustrator cursors disappear and highlighted text turns invisible. It's completely obnoxious. Is there any way to change tool colors?

    The layer solution works well, but I have a question. Using 50% black in artwork tends to cause a problem when screen printing. Under 50% is a black dot on a white background and over 50% is a white dot on a black background. 50% exactly can be a problem. If the line screen is anywhere between 35-65 line I have found that decreasing to 47% or increasing to 53% works quite well. Higher line screens (85+) tend to solve themselves as there are more dots to work with. So, what is the end product or process that your art is intended for?

    Hi all, I'm unable to access my iphoto library; tried alt/control when re-launching but that doesn't work. Have I really just lost ALL of my images?

    There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on seven different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
    - Did it ever work properly?
    - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.
    It's unlikely you've lost any images - you have a back up, right?

  • G4 Powerbook nightmare help?

    Please help. I'm on my second 17" g4 powerbook and I can't believe I'm having trouble again. I barely even use this one, just for emailing and some random safari browsing. Nothing too heavy. I was working off the battery the other night and forgot to plug the laptop back in to the AC source before I went to bed. Woke up and everything seemed dead, so I plugged it in and forgot about it.
    Several hours later, when I attempted to start up the powerbook, I get the blinking "? and I know that's not good. I try every startup disk I own and either they can't find a startup volume to troubleshoot or with my original powerbook disks, I get kernel panics. What the heck?
    I bought this from a friend who installed Leopard on it. He hasn't transferred over the OS disks to me yet, but since I can't get it to reboot from the original powerbook disks, I'm not sure that if I buy the newest Leopard disks, that would make a difference.
    Is the hard drive completely fried? Or is it wiped clean for some reason? Since some of my startup disks can't find a startup volume, I'm wondering if for some reason, the directory structure is totally messed up. Is there a way I can create a new directory or reformat the hard drive in terminal or something?
    Or am I destined to replace the hard drive? I'm a life long mac user, but definitely not impressed with the 17" g4 powerbook. Too many headaches with this computer...

    It's possible that the internal backup battery is discharged. It helps the computer remember a lot of things, including the startup volume. If the battery let the computer forget what startup volume to use, you could get the question mark.
    Remove the main battery and leave the computer on the AC adaptor for several hours. If the internal battery can still hold a charge, that will help.
    Have you tried booting in Safe Mode? Hold SHIFT during startup. That does some directory cleanup that may help.

  • Numark iDJ/iPod nightmare - help!

    OK - picked up a new Numark iDJ mixing console yesterday. Dropped a 5th gen. 30GB iPod into it, and the iPod immediately locked up. I removed it and tried numerous times to reset/restore it, to no avail. Returned it to Circuit City for a brand new one, which eventually met the same fate. I picked up one more new one last night, charged it, loaded it, and it also bit the dust the minute it landed in the iDJ.
    So, I'd be inclined to think the Numark unit is the problem, but I've got an older iPod mini that works flawlessly in both docking bays of the iDJ. Numark tech support says if the Mini works OK, there's no reason why any other iPod (especially brand-new ones) wouldn't work, and there's DEFINITELY no reason why they should be crapping out as soon as they're placed into the iDJ.
    HELP! This is our backup sound-system for running events, and we're getting ready to hit the road for our first event of the season tomorrow.

    Mine locked up when I attached it holding down the PLAY button (to get it to activate the microphone feature) but I was able to successfully reset it and get it to work again.
    I wish they'd put something on their website stating if it would work or not.

  • Reinstalling OS. Nightmare help PLEASE

    It might sound like I am flip in my previous question but believe me I am devastated. Its 0300 and I am trying to fix this horror.
    It seems I just may have formatted his hard drive while trying to do the bootcamp partition. Followed the instructions but they didn't make it clear to only use the bootcamp division. It might be obvious to the boffs but when I tried it said the division wasn't large enough but didn't give me an option to increase it but rather to choose another one. Which I did. Puke. .
    I finally got the disc out and Neil said I should reinstall the OS, however
    I can not get it to reinstall. I put the Mac OS disc in and restarted but it gives the same eerror: "Disc error, press any key to restart"
    However when I press any key nothing happens.
    When I shut it down and restart the same happens. Can anyone tell me how to reinstall OS.
    Help please?

    Also, check the Task Manager to see whether dynamiclinkmanager.exe is running. If you have Lightroom, Premiere Pro, or After Effects, make sure these are all closed as well.

  • HT4527 Library transfer nightmare - HELP?

    Hi all
    I have just transferred my itunes library to a new computer. The itunes media file is now sitting on an external hard drive and is duplicated on the desktop, but Itunes will not pick up the content. I have followed the online tutorials but it does not work like they say it should. When I chose "Add file to library" and select my Itunes media folder, it just continually asks me to open each folder and sub folder and so on. Does this mean I have to add each file one by one???? I hope not - I haven't got enough years of  life left to do that...

    But I've already said that I have followed the instructions and it's still not working. I eventually found out how to import by folder rather than file (by uh-hiding menu bar) and itunes did import my existing library on the new computer - but wouldn't show my latest purchases. Then after some un-prompted updating activity, it appeared to import the latest purchases - but then they wouldn't sync with the ipod. A dialogue box appeared asking if I wanted to erase and sync - so I clicked yes and it erased....but didn't sync. Then eventually it did sync...but only with my latest purchases and renamed my ipod as "Dell's ipod" New computer is a Dell.
    I decided to put my latest purchases to a memory stick, get the old computer out of the garage upload the new songs and sync in the normal way. Apart form a few duplication incidents where itunes said it couldn't find certain songs....but actually it did import them, this stategy was the only thing that worked. I now have my full library synced on my ipod. But I dare not try and move to a new computer again - I will have to keep my old slow computer just for itunes.....

    I`m really havin` the worst days of my life since I upgraded my CPU.
    I have the following config:
    MSI k7n2 Delta L (Nvidia Based)
    Athlon XP 2400
    MSI Geforce ti4800se running agp 8x
    512 Mem DDR
    Atx Power Supply 450w
    Installing my computer I noticed that MSI k7n2 doesn`t have a traditional joystick gameport..then I bought an USB MS Sidewinder Precision 2. When I play MS Flight Simulator 2002 after 3 or 5 minutes of play my computer freezes. It stops! Only reset can solve. I don`t know what to do and for this reason I`m here askin` and advice or a help. I`m very sad `cause I changed my computer for this game, I bought a new joystick for this game and it`s not working properly as it should work.
    I called Microsoft and they advised me to contact MSI, the system locks only when the joystick is connected, when I remove it I can leave the simulator running all they long without freezing. I changed the joystick but the problem persists. Curious isn`t it? But I spent to much and play a flight simulator without a joystick is terrible.
    I read some other posts with 3d games... it`s the same problem.. the difference is that when I connect the joystick I can explore more angles...and use more the cpu resources... Oh I don`t know. Why I didn`t bought an asus board!
    Please Help me as soon as possible if you have a solution.
    Just for info... I have the latest Directx available and latest drivers for my video card fro MSI and I`m up to date with my bios version.

    You can only transfer music and videos through iTunes. If computer/laptop music folders is what you mean of "existing library", then it would not be possible. Add your files first to iTunes then sync.

    They will only be where you put them  If you are doing the very basics, then they will be on your computer and they will be in your backup copy of your computer.
    The itunes store is not global at all, never has been. You cannot redownload your content from another country.  You can only use the countrys itunes store for the country that you are physically located.

  • Nightmare issue with facemoods hyjacking my firefox when opens. I know others having as have seen online. In root system. Help

    Hello. Facemoods has hijacked my browser. First noticed yesterday 6-30-11. I did not sign up for. I did much research and have tried different solutions. In addition to what is written below for trouble shooting. I also tried taking off Firefox 4 (mistake) from my control panel to see if that would solve ... does not. Downloaded Firefox 5 and then sadly none of the extensions I have (like 6 of them) including my Kapersky Security were compatible. So I then tried to reinstall Firefox 4 and found out not available for security vulnerabilities reasons - so reinstalled older 3.5 or 3.6 (sorry not sure on exact number) Firefox so at least I have. Does not matter what version I use or if in safe mode with networking - still this hyjacked nightmare occurs. I know is in root system. I can still get google.com by changing in address bar after facemoods page loads - but must click in upper edge of page to get address bar. Still this is tracking my every move and then allows. From research I did this is what Facemoods does: The search toolbar it installs hijacks my current search engine and inject advertisements in all my searches - regardless of whether I choose to use Goodle, Bing, Yahoo or any other major search engine. It is sapping my computers RAM. Then they can install upgrades (though again I did NOT Sign up for. One can not get rid of this junk program by going to Control Panel though they say one can.

    I figured uninstalling and then reinstalling would do the trick, I even upgraded to Firefox 4, and still no luck. I wonder if this is because of not deleting all the data such as passwords and bookmarks."

    ""PUPSC" is, but it sounds like it is similar to "PUP" which means "Potentially Unwanted Program". These are generally programs which get flagged by a heuristic virus scanner. Heuristic scanners look for programs which exhibit virus like behavior, instead of looking for known viruses. The downside to these, is that they can produce a lot of false positives.
    One website that I saw claims that facemoodssrv.exe does a lot of suspicious things:
    * Writes to another Process's Virtual Memory (Process Hijacking)
    * Enables a COM Object/Server on the Local Machine
    * Can communicate with other computer systems using HTTP protocols
    * Registers a Dynamic Link Library File
    * This process creates other processes on disk
    * Injects code into other processes
    * Performs DNS look ups to resolve URL IP addresses
    * Uses rootkit techniques to conceal its presence, interrogation or removal
    * Executes a Process
    This would certainly explain why facemoods gets flagged as a "PUPSC" - this is definitely suspicious behavior! Mind you, facemoods isn't' necessarily a virus because it does these things. In fact, these make sense to me, as I think that facemoods is a program which "injects" smiley graphics in the place of plain text emoticons. In order to do this, you would have to figure out how to convince your web browser to replace a plain text emoticon. Mind you: this IS suspicious virus-like behavior. I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. This isn't safe, and should (almost) never be done. The only exception that I can think about are anti-virus programs which use root-kit like behavior to make them harder for a virus to deactivate/sabotage/cripple.
    Anyways, even if facemoods is legit, it is also possible that a virus writer has taken the facemoods code and modified it for their own purposes. They then package this with another harmless program. This way when an anti-virus catches it, it flags facemoodssrv.exe as a virus. Because facemoods may engage in risky activities normally, the virus writer may hope that virus scanners won't catch it, or that the user will disregard the warnings. Thus the virus gets away with doing malicious things, because it looks similar to what facemoods normally does.
    If there is an application which is installing facemoods without your permission, my advice is to treat it like a virus. Don't trust add/remove programs to remove it correctly.
    My question is this: Are the above listed behaviors normal for facemoods?

  • IPhone 5 and Verizon customer Service Nightmare Please help!

    I need help with Verizon customer service. I would like to know if I am being unreasonable. Here is my story. I ordered an iPhone 5 from apple to add to my Verizon account. This will be my fourth line of service with Verizon. I spend over 200 dollars a month with Verizon. I ordered the iPhone on the first day it was available to order. I received my iPhone on Tuesday 9/25/12. The nightmare begins. I call Verizon customer service to activate service. I get bounced from department to department because they are unable to activate my phone. This goes on for about an hour. I then get to a nice young lady that was very friendly and worked hard to try to help me. We spend for hours on the phone speaking to all of her different departments and even calling apple care and apple directly. The problem is Verizon set my new line of service to start in the middle of October. After about 4-5 hours on hold with customer service I am told they can't activate my new phone until the middle of October because when the order was placed they set up my activation date wrong. They went on to tell me they could do nothing more and transferred me to apple as they said only apple can fix the problem. I spend the next two hours on the phone with apple. Apple class all their tech support and calls Verizon back and explains my phone is a working phone and Verizon is the one providing the service so this is definitely a Verizon issue. I am advised by apple that I need to call Verizon back to fix. At this point Verizon is closed as I have been on hold with reps past closing time. I call back to Verizon and get a really helpful customer service rep the next day. Spend two hours on hold with him and he gets my service turned on. He states they should have been able to help me with this yesterday and apologized to me. He advised I would have to call back the next day to change my phone numbers around. Total time invested today 2 hours. Total time invested so far over 8 hours. I call back the next day to get my numbers moved around. Takes about an hour. When we are done I ask if I can get a credit on my next bill for having to spend over 8 hours on the phone to fix Verizon's mistake. I am transferred to a very condescending manager who laughs at me and tells me in essence they don't care about my time. He offers me one day of service credit. I advise him this is unacceptable. He gives me an analogy that this is like me getting my electric turned off for not paying and then wanting a credit for the time it took to turn back on. He even laughed at me on the phone and told me he wasn't going to do anything. When I asked to speak to a higher up manager I was told no. My question is who do I advise to get this rectified, and is it unreasonable to expect a credit when I spent over 8 hours on the phone with Verizon to correct their mistake?  Pleas help!

    What is the value of your time for example?  If you are not self-employed, were you still being paid during these 8 hours.  A court would consider actual economic loss, did you lose money during these 8 hours?   And do you/your employer pay customers in similar situations?  In my experience, you get credit based on the service (e.g. the 1 day credit) rather than being paid for your time.
    And on the flip side, if I call up Verizon complaining that my phone doesn't work, and it turns out that I had forgot to charge it, do you want to be billed for the rep's time when it was your mistake?  (Of course, wireline DOES do this, if Verizon dispatches a repair tech and the fault is inside your house etc (without a wiring contract) you do get charged)
    Certainly the one day credit is the minimum they should provide.  As others have said, your real recourse is to return the phone.
