Nightmare on Printing Weirdness

Servers 2x NW6SP5e
Clients WIN2kSP4 running Novell Clients 4.90SP2
We currently run a number of different NDS Que based printers . We keep
having this periodic nightmare, rougly every 8 hours or so.
The clients state the the printers are saying unable to connect to server
and are unavailable. Rebooting the computers does not fix the problem. This
happens sporadically to one user and the precipitates to the reminder of the
user population accessing those queues and the only way that seems to fix
the problem is to reboot the server, then the
clients are fine, though a small handful sometimes need to be rebooted. I
have had a look at the error logs which dont show anything etc on the server
and whilst the problem is happening there seems to be no problems on the
server end. Though rebooting the servers fixes the problem. HELLPPPPPPP!!!

  • LaserJet CP1025NW Color Printer - Weird cranking noise when printing or rotating carousel

Just out the package today, the first time turning on the printer, during all print jobs and when rotating the cartridges, the carousel is making a weird cranking noise coming from the left side of the printer. I understand that this printer does make the winding/power-up sound, but this cranking noise is in addition to the normal sound.
I find this odd because I use the exact same printer at work and it does not make this noise and I am afraid that it is a faulty mechanism within the printer.
I have checked to make sure that I removed all packaging from inside the printer and removed all cartridges and replaced them. I would think that all pieces that need to be removed would be bright orange. Also, the print jobs are not affected by the cranking noise.
Does anyone else have this problem?

    Hi saidthegirl
I understand the printer is noisy but will print.
I have included the document for setting up the printer, to take a look at where all the packing material is located.

If the printer is making unusual noise and you are using the toner that shipped with the printer then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you.

  • Address Book envelope printing weirdness

I'm having a strange problem when trying to print envelopes or mailing labels from Address Book. Basically, when I select a contact use cmd-P to print the address, the preview in the LH side of the Print dialog looks fine. But if I print, or use the "Preview" button, exclamation points are added before and after the State field.
So, "New York NY 12345" becomes "NewYork!NY!12345" in Preview or in the printed output.
If I print to PDF and copy the offending text to a Hex Editor, it appears that the sequence "E2 80 8E" is added just before the spaces (0x20) that separate the fields.
The same addresses synced on another Mac look fine and print fine.
Needless to say, it's driving me nuts! Any ideas?

    Hi Waldo,
    Just a suggestion...
Have you tried using Disk Utility to Verify and Repair Permissions?
It sure won't hurt anything even if it doesn't fix your problem.

  • InDesign CS4 printing weirdness

    Hi:
I just upgraded, fairly painlessly, from CS3 to CS4. Following all of the updates, everything is working fine except for my most common print preset in InDesign.
I print short documents on 8.5x11 paper, 2-sided, landscape. No matter how many things I try, ID is printing the pages single-sided landscape. All of the settings are correct for the printer (HP 8100) — it's set for 2-sided and short-edge binding, but my documents simply will not print 2-sided. Interestingly, 11x17 2-sided landscape printing works exactly right.
I can do a workaround by exporting a PDF from ID and printing from Acrobat, but 1) that doesn't solve the problem and 2) printing from Acrobat is a little slower.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Gary

In an experiment, I found that letter-sized, 2-sided landscape printing works perfectly from ID CS4 to a Xerox Phaser 6250. Unfortunately, the HP 8100 is my main printer.
Further, wondering if the conversion from CS3 to 4 had something to do with it, I created a new document in ID CS4 and tried to print 2-sided landscape with the same results. It also didn't work printing portrait 2-sided.
I deleted the HP printer, downloaded the latest drivers from HP, reinstalled them, and restarted the computer. At some point, to my shock, I managed to get ID to print correctly — but then it refused to print 2-sided portrait. That was the only time my landscape printing worked.
I've now lost track of how many times I've deleted the printer and reinstalled. If I set the printer up using IPP, it doesn't communicate with the computer for some reason. When I use Line Printer Daemon or HP JetDirect Socket I can print, but the problem still persists. (And still, 11x17 prints 2-sided with no problems.) Also, Word, which I try to avoid whenever I can, prints correctly 2-sided.
I've mainly managed to waste huge amounts of paper and give myself a splitting headache.
There's something up for sure between ID CS4 and HP when dealing with 2-sided letter-sized pages, whatever the orientation.

  • PSE 13 Printing weirdness

    Has anyone else experienced this?
I am printing a number of pictures from a folder (Windows 7). I load the photo into PSE 13, and print it. Fine so far.  Now I load the next photo into PSE 13, select print, and the preview shows the previous photo! And, in fact, that's what will print.
Both photos show in the column to the left of the preview box, but clicking on the new photo in that column does NOT select it. In fact, the only way to print the correct photo is to use the "remove" function to delete the old one from the column on the left.
Worse, when you get up to printing, say 5 or 6 photos, the problems persists, and even if you delete the old photo(s) when printing the new one, the next time you go back to the printing setup, not only is the wrong photo selected and previewed again, but every photo you've printed shows up in the column on the left even though you've previously deleted them.
    Very annoying. Bug? Anyone?

Then I would start by deleting the prefs. Editor preferences>general, click this button and restart the editor:

  • Pdf's prints weird in unix

    Hi All,
I have a workspace in both windows and unix. The windows workspace produces pdf's just fine, but in unix the same workspace prints pdf's with all section overlapping each other. Is there any setting need to be done.
    Thanks.

Porting an environment to Unix involves correcting INI path settings and making sure that all filenames on Unix are lowercase.
If using relative paths and the subdirectory names are identical, then you probably don't have to change any path settings. For example, .\mymrl\myfolder\mydata\myfile.dat will get interpreted as ./mymrl/myfolder/mydata/myfile.dat on Unix.
Try producing PCL output to see if the same overlap issue exists (my guess is it will).
Or you can compare the NAFILE produced on Windows and Unix.
The /NA records will contain the name of the section and the X= and Y= portion will show where the sections are being placed on the page.
My guess is that your Unix NAFILE will have X=0, Y=0 for the sections instead of the coordinates you will see in the Windows NAFILE.

  • Printing weirdness

Anyone know why a printer deployed by GPO would work fine for some
machines that have it and give an error and not print for others?
The error is one that indicates a faulty/incorrect/bad driver, but like
I said, other people can print to this printer just fine.
    Stevo

in the meantime this might help you out
on the client machine with the problem, open control panel and go to admin tools - print management and expand print servers where you should see the local machine
remove the drive for the problem printer from the local machine, then remove the connection to the printer and readd it
i've had similar issues with printers not working on machine even with iprint until I remove the driver from the local print server driver store and reconnect to it

  • Print Quality Officejet L7555

I'd appreciate any helpful suggestions anyone can offer.  I've had this printer for several months, and it's been terrific.  All of a sudden, the colors are garish, greens too bright, blacks part greenish brown, browns orange, just all messed up.  Pinks and purples seem okay.  I thought maybe it was because I was using non OEM inks.  So today I spent $100 on new HP brand ink, and the problem is still there.
On another note, the default printing seems to be stuck on mirror image on, and I keep changing it to off in every profile I have saved, except General Everyday Printing, which I cannot delete or edit.  And this is annoying.  Every time I want to print, I have to go in and change the mirror image to off because it comes up as on.
I have plain paper selected, normal quality, and am printing on a high-end color inkjet paper with the proper side up.  But I've tried varying the settings for quality, paper type, adjusting the ink saturation and brightness.  I've also printed on card stock and photo paper with the same result.  I've fiddled with just about everything I can fiddle with, to no avail.
Does anyone know if it might help if I reloaded drivers/software?  Might I need to replace printheads that are less than a year old?
Thanks for any advice you can give.  I'm totally frustrated by this now.

Thanks for the reply, DexterM.  I have used the clean printhead utility from both the printer and the HP Solution Center toolbox.  Curiously, color copies are perfect.  Printing from an image scanned on the Officejet are coming out perfectly.  The only thing that's printing weird is photos or pictures from .jpg or other graphics-format files.  My black/yellow printhead does have a "monitor" yellow-light status.  According to the Extended Self Test Report, I had a total page count of 1446.  It doesn't seem like the printhead ought to wear out from that many.
Incidentally, while using the replacement non-HP inks, which are supposed to be fully compatible, I was able to print pictures very well.  This is a very recent problem.
It seems as though the colors are getting scrambled somehow in the interpretation from the picture files.  If the printheads were damaged, it seems like a copy wouldn't come out just right.  Any clues as to what might be causing this?  I changed the print processor from the hp one to WinPrint, just to see if that made a difference, but changed it back because it seems to be the same.
    Anyway, thanks for your help.
Any clue how I can get the mirror thing to off on the Gen. Everyday Printing shortcut setting?  That's so weird.  Thanks in advance.

  • HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

    Hello,
For some time now I have been unable to scan or print from my desktop (Windows 7 Professional 64bit) and I have exhausted too much effort and am now bringing it to the masses.
    The problem:
Printing:  Currently receiving an "Error - Offline" message in my printer queue at all times.
Scanning:  Scanning has never fully worked on this desktop. I am always unable to communicate with the printer. (Though webscan works through accessing the printers IP address)
    Things I have tried:
Ran HPPSDr, followed directions (Unpluged power to printer, turn back on, restart computer) brings me to this website after it cannot fix. (Note that while the HPPSDr is running it always notions that there is a driver problem)
Uninstalled Drivers from CD-ROM, re-installed, countless times
Installed "Windows 7 Pro 64 bit drivers" from the HP website and uninstalled, countless times.
Attempted to set a static IP and use "Update IP Address" to point specifically at the printers IP.
Installed Drivers and finding the printer myself through it's own static IP address.
Turned off firewall and attempted to print (after reboot), same errors
Setting up the printer on all of my laptops (3) wirelessly to attempt to find if there is a problem with the printer or static IP. (1 is Windows VISTA 32bit and the other 2 are Ubuntu 32bit). All laptops are able to use the printer wirelessly without any problems.
Read all of the forums about this issue and attempted all of the 'solutions'. Although I mostly don't see that anyone with this same problem is resolved, unless I'm missing the perfect post.
    Things I have not tried:
Plugging the USB directly into the desktop. (This seems self defeating as the purpose for this printer was to be able to print wirelessly to it from across the room)
Re-installed Windows 7 Pro 64bit (Trying to avoid this, would rather just print from laptops)
    You tell me
    Curiosities:
I have noticed strange things that make me believe the driver is somehow incomptable with my OS. Here is a shot of the properties of the printer:
Weird that it is not recognizing the model number.
Also in the Printer Settings when I go to the port tab, there is no port selected, if I try and tab away it forces me to select a port, yet when I do and 'apply' and then re-open the Printer Settings in the ports tab; it has again unselected the previously selected port.
    Theories:
I feel like my OS is just refusing to notice the IP address for the wireless printer, no matter what I have it set to, even if it's dynamic. It's like the driver for Windows 7 Pro 64bit is actually not the correct driver for my system.
Anyways, another thing to mention is that I am not currently willing to wipe my operating system and re-install Windows 7 Pro in order to resolve this just yet. I want to see if anyone else has any other avenues I can try before even beginning to consider that.
Anyways, thanks in advance for taking the time to read my ramblings and hopefully someone who has resolved this issue can help me.

    Hi Zerosouls,
I understand you are having an issue with HP 6600 Scan\Print Driver Issue for Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
First try to click the Windows icon, type services in the Search box, and then click or tap View Local Services. Scroll down to the Windows Installer. Startup type should be - Automatic, and Service Status should be - started
Restart the computer after this step and try installing Hp Officejet 6600 again.
Please let me know what happens
    Thanks

  • I bought a new computer and it had firefox4beta 11 in it. It worked fine till it upgraded to beta 12, then the printer messed up big time. Had to go bck down to firefox3.6

I bought a HP computer and already had HP 8500 printer which I love. When automatic update happened to firefox 4 beta 12, the printer started printing weird and could not read it. The print was spread all over the page and was very light. HP Support downgraded the firefox to 3.6 and just now there was an upgrade to 3.6.?? Hopefully this won't cause a problem with the printer

The printer problem has been documented in a number of other entries. It's a bug that's been fixed for the final FF4 roll-out. It's very unlikely that it has anything to do with your printer.

  • Printing/Font problem Indesign CS4

I am hoping someone can help me  figure out an issue I'm having with Adobe Indesign CS4 and printing.
A few weeks  ago I upgraded from CS3 to CS4. I had just sent a CS3 document to my  printer and it looks great. I decided to update all the files I was  working to CS4 (Indesign) since I knew I'd be working on them within the  next few months. I upgraded and printed out one of the files to my  xerox 6200 phaser and now parts of the document (a 4 page document)  prints out of my printer like it's missing the font. Not all of the  fonts change to a strange courier slanted italic font, just some of  them. I've tried just about everything and am driving myself crazy  trying to get it fixed. I can't attach a sample because it only does it  when printing. I have checked for errors in preflight and I have none.  The fonts I'm using are cronos mm and cronos mm italics. My operating  system is snow leopard 10.4.11.
    These are what I've tried:
    1. I printed  from the indesign 3 file before conversion and it prints fine.
    2.  Made a pdf of the indesign 4 file and no errors and looks great on  screen and prints from the printer and looks great.
    3. I've  printed out individual pages, one at a time, and when printing  individual pages no weird fonts, but when I send the job to printing the  whole document is when I get the weird fonts.
    4. Tried to save it  as an .indx file and print from it and it still has the same issue.
    5.  Exported the text and saved it as plain text from text edit and placed  it in a fresh file and reapplied the fonts and it still prints weird. I  only did 1 and a half pages of it to see if just bringing in clean text  and redoing it but it didn't work.
    6. I'm using Font Agent Pro  3.3.2 and I deleted the fonts from the system and reimported the fonts  from a backup file. Verified the fonts and found that some of the cronos  fonts (expert) couldn't be verified and deleted them, but those weren't  the ones that I was using.
    7. Cleaned the font cache using Tweak  Freak.
    8. Deleted the adobe plist preference thing
    9.  Deleted my printer, downloaded a new driver and font management thing  for my printer and reinstalled it
    10. Restarted numerous times and  reopened the file and printed and it's still printing weird.
    11.  Done a save as several times and gotten the same results.
    12. I've  opened other files that use the same fonts as this file and they've  printed fine after upgrading to cs 4.
    13. Printed from another  person's computer who has everything that I have on my system and his  system does the same thing.
    14. Spent countless hours looking  online and can't find a solution. I'm afraid if I do anymore I will  screw up my computer or indesign or fonts so I thought I'd email this  list to see if there's a solution. Any help would be appreciated.
    Rosie

    Peter,
Thanks so much! It worked! I changed it to subset and it printed perfect. I had tried everything else in that box, such as binary instead of ascii, level 2 instead of 3, but never changed from complete to subset. I really appreciate your help! And I do still have some hair left. I didn't pull it all out
As a side though, it's weird that in CS 3 with the same settings - complete - it would print fine, but when upgrading it changed it. I also exported it as a pdf to make sure it looked good on screen and printed out great. Thanks again. I appreciate your help. You are brilliant!

  • Printing labels enlarges, stretches, cuts off text

    HP Deskjet 840C
    Mac OS 10.6
I'm trying to print labels and get the above results. It's almost like the text that doesn't actually print then remains in the cache and prints on subsequent pages. I say that because I first printed from InDesign with no problem. Once the text started printing weird, I opened a Word doc to print (on plain paper) and got the Word doc PLUS a portion of the enlarged, stretched, bizarre text of my address labels printed with it. Later attempts to print the addresses to plain paper resulted in some of the bizarre text, then all was fine again. But every attempt on label paper gives the bad result.
Is this simply a problem caused by the paper? These are off-brand Christmas labels that I purchased a few years ago, so they are not HP labels.
    Any advice is appreciated!!

upgraded to OSX-10.4.6 - things are much happier.

  • Trouble with printing wireless

Can anyone help. Up until recently I have had no trouble printing wirelessly with iPad and HP photos mart B210 series. Recently it has become a nightmare.
Printing jobs are left in a que. it connects to the printer, but will not complete print task. The same problem occurs with mac book pro. Printer is connected
To router and so is iPad and MacBook. Iphone4s also a problem sending print jobs. Have spent long hours trying to sort this out .but to no avail.
Then suddenly I van print with iPad and mac book but not phone!,
    What is going on!!!

    Gotch-
Did you happen to make any changes to your WiFi network at about the time your trouble started?
I suggest you unplug your WiFi router for a few seconds.  Then reset the network in your iPad and iPhone.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will need to reconnect each to WiFi.
Is it possible you have a neighbor whose Wifi router happens to have the same name (SSID) as yours?  It is possible for a printer, an iPad or a computer to jump to a different WiFi base station with the same name.  This happened to me a few weeks ago when I had trouble printing.  (There are a LOT of WiFi base stations out there named Linksys!)
