Nik HDR plugin for 3.1.3 doesn't work.

I move to a new MAC Book Air (i7) with Lion. I transferred my applications files from my other mac (running latest Leopard).
When I run aperture and try to get the HDR plugin I get an error message telling me the software doesn't recognize the tiff image (my image is either Raw or JPEG, not tiff). I reinstalled the plugin with no success.
When I use HDR as a stand alone software it works.
I then created another user account and reinstalled the plugin on this new account. It worked.
When I reopened the first account to try again it didn't work.
I have repaired permissions to no avail.
Any ideas?

P.S.: same problem with Silver efex pro, all other Nik plugins do work.

When you install a plugin in Aperture or in many other programs on a Mac you have two choices. You can install it so that only the user doing the install can see the plugin or you can install system wide, that is so that any user on the machine can use it.
For most of us that difference is not very important because we have only one use on the machine. However the method used determines where the plugin gets installed. In the first case it is in the users own Library folder in the second it is in the System Library folder.
If when you created the second user to test the software and that user couldn't see the plugin until you installed it for them then you are using the first method. If the new user could immediately use the plugin without installing it again you would have ben using the second method.
When you installed the plugin you should have been given a choice, install for only this user or install for all users (or something along those lines)
None of this has a direct bearing on your situation just somehting to kep in mind. The plugin shoul work either way. I'd go ahaead wiht the repair of the library and trying to create a new library for the acount that is having the problems.

Not sure what plugins you mean, Hornet - Lr doesn't rely on plugins to read new cameras.
If you mean the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin - that's for Photoshop, not Lightroom. Lr has the same functionality as ACR, but it's hard-coded into the program, so if you're looking for support for a new camera, you need to wait for a new version of Lr.
And nobody here can say when Lr support for a given camera will happen.
Hopefully someone with a Merrill will be able to chime in about whether its files work with the current Lr.

im not shure but if you get an 3.5 mm sterio headphone jack and plug that in your car and shuffle it should work just as good

I'm using Nik HDR Efex Pro. The basic differences between HDR Efex Pro and Photomatix are that Photomatix has more powerful adjustment capabilities and can do batch processing. But HDR Efex Pro is easier to use and has better presets. I love the presets.
It may at first appear as if HDR Efex Pro costs more than Photomatix. But I found that Amazon has very good pricing on HDR Efex Pro. I would look there first.

I have had cases where I purchase software on a physical disk. If I don't like the software I can uninstall it from my computer and sell it legally. Recouping most of my loss.

Go buy yourself a iPhone 5. Sync your iPhone 3GS to iTunes on you computer so you have a back up ready to put on the iPhone 5. If you want you can update your iPhone 3GS with iTunes on your computer, but this is not necessary.

Accented characters in Word for Mac: Option-i doesn't work

I am trying to type an accented character (e.g., a circumflex over a letter). Everything I find online says type and hold "OPTION-i", release, then type the letter, but it doesn't work. Instead I get the accent over empty space, next to the letter. This is MS Word for Mac 2008 software on a MacBook Pro. Any ideas?

Nonsense. Nothing to do with your keyboard. Btw, you still haven't told us what character you're trying to insert.

That's an option, but not the only one. Just for the sake of argument, let's assume it's p-hat (not the party hat, but the symbol for sample proportion).
(1) Specifically in Word, you can use fields (overstrike). Go to Insert > Field… > Equations and Formulas > Eq; then type
EQ \O (p,^)
and confirm. (Note that "EQ" will be inserted by Word automatically, you don't need to type it again.)
Once you get the hang of it, you won't need to insert it using menu & submenu commands, but by typing and applying styles.
(2) The right way is Unicode. Currently, Unicode defines >100k codepoints, so, for obvious reasons, it's neither necessary nor practical for most keyboard layouts to be able to access anything but a small subset. You can enter Unicode characters using Character Viewer (aka Special Characters), or, more efficiently, using the Unicode Hex Input keyboard layout.
If the character is already defined as such in Unicode, eg, for all (upside down A), then hold down Option and type its Unicode hex code, ie 2200 -- ∀. However, p-hat isn't defined as such, so it must be entered as a combining character sequence. The sequence is ((Latin small letter p) + (combining circumflex accent)), or (p + 0302) -- p̂.
Unfortunately, all is not sweetness and light. Although this is how it should be done, the display may disappoint. Questions 12b and 12c in the respective Unicode FAQ explain what happens and why.

Plugin for Windows Media Player is not working with Firefox 4 on Windows 7

I updated my Firefox to the latest version 4 yesterday, but since this time seems plugin for Windows Media Player not working anymore. When I visit some website with embedded video - like [http://www.ta3.com/sk/live this] - the window with WMP is not displayed and no video is playing. The website reports: You don´t have any plugin for playing of this video.
I reinstalled the plugin for WMP several times - with no success. This problem is on all webpages with embedded video for WMP. The installation of WMP plugin is successfully finished, but no video is playing. I checked the “plugins“ folder in the installation directory of Firefox and everything seems to be OK. Where is also the problem? Please, help me with solving of this problem...

I assume you do mean this one? In principle all app purchases are final, however you should get a working app. You could start with the "Report a problem" link in your account history, but I'm sure they will want you to perform a number of troubleshooting steps before talking about other approaches for resolving your complaint.
Try resetting the iPad, and if that fails uninstall the app then reinstall it. In fact, delete the app from the iPad and iTunes, then redownload the app from the store in case the existing download has some kind of weird error. If that still fails then your next troubleshooting step is to restore the iPad.
It might also help if you describe "doesn't work" in a bit more detail. The app works fine for me and plenty of others.

Reader plugin for Chrome versions 42+ no longer work

As of 04/15/2015, Google has deprecated the NPAPI which the Adobe Reader plugin apparently uses (see NPAPI deprecation: developer guide - The Chromium Projects) This means the Adobe Reader plugin for Chrome no longer works.
Does Adobe have any plans to provide a new plugin or extension for Chrome?
If not, what is an alternative that can handle .xdp forms? I've tried PDF Viewer (PDF.js), Notable PDF, and Xodo but none of them handle .xdp files.

All: I use the Adobe Reader plugin a lot for work. I have found a workaround to the new Chrome version 42 update that has removed the NPAPI plugins, including Adobe Reader.
In the Chrome browser URL, type "chrome://flags". Find the flag called "Enable NPAPI Mac, Windows" and click "Enable".
Then, go back to your plugins in Chrome, "chrome://plugins". Make sure the Adobe Reader plugin is Enabled and the Chrome PDF Viewer is disabled. Everything should work as it did before.

By installing the hardware drivers from the Toshiba homepage I had a problem with the W-Lan driver.
It has an Atheros W-Lan Adapter, but the driver doesn't works. After extracting it the window closes and the installation doesn't begins.
What can I do?

Are you sure that the notebook supports Atheros Wlan card?

SetSoTimeout for blocking SocketChannel.read() doesn't work

When I tried to perform reading in blocking mode with using NIO's SocketChannel.read() method with a desired timeout, the SocketChannel.socket().setSoTimeout() method that was called before SocketChannel().read() funtion, seemed not to work properly. The read() method blocked the thread for infinite time even if I set the timeout to any non-zero value (zero means according the manual infinite timeout).
Here is the example code:
SocketChannel iochan;
ByteBuffer bb = new ByteBuffer.allocateDirect(1024);
iochan = SocketChannel.open(new InetSocketAddress(some address, some port));
iochan.socket().setSoTimeout(2000); //should wait max. 2 secs on next read
iochan.read(bb); //read some data to the buffer; if none present within 2 seconds then exception should be thrown - but it never happens. The thread is blocked until some data comes or the connection is closed by the peer, for example.
What is very interesting is that this code is OK:

As you see the same socket is used. Nonetheless, I would like to use SocketChannel methods (NIO). Can anyone help me? Why doesn't work timeouts for blocking SocketChannel methods(read(),...), whereas "classic" sockets methods are OK?
I'm using W2K SP3, Java 1.4.1_01.

I've run into a similar problem using DatagramSockets. Apparently socket timeouts aren't supported using the nio packages, but nowhere in the documentation is this mentioned. The following bug report gives more info:

Apparently this is not considered a bug. I do however hope this is fixed in JDK 1.5, when I understand more work is to be done on nio.
