Nik software and Elements 11

I recently installed Nik software from Google.  It works fine in as much as there is a clear difference between the before and after image.  However, when the image is saved, I get a yellow highlight over part of the image as shown below.  Am I missing a step in the process of applying the filters?

Hi,
This kind of problem has been observed in PS, PS Elements and also in older versions of Lightroom. It usually originates in the display driver. Make sure you have updated your display driver to the latest version.
Also, this might be a memory problem. What is your PC configuration? You should also check your memory settings in the PSE preferences.

  • NIK plugins and elements 10

I just installed elements 10 but when I try to add my NIK plugins- silver efex 2, viveza 2 and color efex 3- it states it cannot read the files.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Suggestions?  Thanks Ron

I had some problems with the NIK plugins.  They worked fine in 9 but not 10.  When I contacted NIK they told me (via e-mail) that as 10 was so new, their plug ins weren't working with it yet and would with the next update.  I called them and got some help.  It is a bit of a complicated process however (even assuming the plug ins were originally installed in the default locations.)  They have some beta versions which they sent me to "try" until the updates are released (fairly soon I think--- hope?)  If I were you I would give them a call.... they are pretty responsive.

  • Nik Vivenza and Elements

I just installedNik Vivenza on my Mac and I am not seeing it in Elements. The install went OK,
I can't figure it out. I went into the pull-down menu for Plug-ins and found a Nik Plug-in but all it was
was the install instructions. Wht  do I do?

  • Is there a known problem with Nik Software Plugins and PSE10

I replaced my PC with a new 64-bit Windows 7 workstation. Have used PSE10 for a while for my cataloging and editing and I did 'trial' individual Nik Software plugins on my old Vista PC for a while. I decided to purchase the Nik Software collection and also to take the plunge and go to Lightroom 4 as well. I put PSE10 on my new PC as well because I want to consider how I might modify my workflow to use both in conjunction (perhaps LR4 for cataloging and PSE10 for editing)
When it came to installing Nik Software Plugins (they are supposed to plugin to Elements and LR4) it seemed to find some of the plugins compatible with both PSE10 and LR4 , some compatible with one of them and some not compatable (apparently) with either, but installed them anyway. But when I use PSE10 now I cannot go from the Organizer into the Editor, it loads the editor interface but not the image. If you open PSE Editor directly and open an image, the image will load and you see 4 of the plugins and I invoke them but the changes dont seem to get applied in PSE10. Then I started reading up on the  web ..... and the consensus seems to be it is not a Nik Software issue but an Abobe editor plugin issue.
On a side issue, the retailer I bought Nik Software from sent me no product keys (they sent me Apple Aperture keys) - now they are about to replace my delivery with a fresh issue and proper keys ... but if I run into the same problems again, I dont know what to do. This leads me to looking for some definitive advice from those in the know!
Should I forget about buying Nik Software plugins altogether?
I see a download is available for LR4-2 .. does anyone know if this fixes Nik Plugin issues there?
I am minded to go the route of using LR4 as my cataloging preference but to call PSE10 Editor for editing and have all my plugins operate out of PSE10, but I could not get the plugins to work with PSE10 as mentioned. How does one get them to work?
Is there some workaround or special "way" or "order" to install things ???
I'm still waiting days for some support from Nik Software ... but they are just going to say there is nothing wrong with their product (and the web seems to concur)
Any help would be appreciated on the PSE10 Issue.

    17/10/2012. I installed the update - Lightroom 4.2
It keeps the same product key and found the catalog and the Windows Control Panel only seems V4.2 so the original has been replaced with this upgrade.
This would be the first time I put down Lightroom  with Photoshop Elements  V.10 already there on the system and I suspect this might have helped with better integration between the 2 products.
I made sure I then opened Photoshop Elements V10 and I could edit an image (that the Organizer invocation to Photoshop Elements Editor did sucessfully load the image) and I could use existing plugins like Topaz and Noiseware. Also I made sure Lightroom  4.2 could use "Edit with Photoshop Elements " and it did.
The supplier who had sent me the wrong Nik Software product keys, sent me a corrected version with product keys for Lightroom
Several web articles I read on Nik Software plugins may be misleading (for example there is one on DPReview) which state that Nik Software plugins are compatable with Photoshop (the main product) but are NOT compatable with Photoshop Elements v10. I can tell anyone who uses Photoshop Elements 10 that they ARE compatable with Photoshop Elements 10, but it can be a little tricky to get them going.
This is how I sucessfully managed to get the Nik Software Plug-ins
working (finally) on both Lightroom  and Photoshop Elements v10 at the same time
Remember my scenario ... I am putting together a new 64 bit Windows 7 PC and I want to be able to continue to use my Photoshop Elements v10 and also to delve into Lightroom for the first time.  I had read all the blurb on Nik Software and it said the plugins were compatable with both and I had downloaded and tested some of them on an old PC anyway, so I knew the principle of installation and operation.
I had just bought the Nik SOftware Complete Collection in September 2012.
The box and the CD they come with .... this is where one of the problems is. Let me explain...
    Step 1:
    =======
Some of the components on the CD are up to date .. and when you elect to install them the sofware tells you that it has found both Lightroom 4.2 and Photoshop Elements V10 and it installs the plugins no problem and they work. Make sure (in these cases) you take their defaults as to the locations the plugins are instlled to. Typically the dual install works for the following components
    Nik Color Efex Prov V4
    Nik Silver Efex V2
    and the plugins go to
    for Photoshop Elements v10           C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Plug-Ins\
    for Lightroom 4                                 C:\users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\External Editor Presets\
After each of the above 2 installs finished I invoked Photoshop Elements v10 first and opened an image in Editor and made sure the plugin was working and inserted my product key and activated it over the web. I then made sure it was also working in Lightroom 4.2 - it was!
    Step 2:
    =======
When it came to installing the Sharpener 3 component off the vendor's CD, it displayed NEITHER of the two applications on its compatability list at all. And there was no "+" sign where one can add one manually. Furthermore if you continue with setup.exe it crashes. I closed the EXE and confirmed there was no plugin in Photoshop Elements v10 as expected for Sharpener.
But when I went into Lightroom 4.2 it shows me the 2 Sharpener entities (the RAW and Output one). And I used it and proved the plugins were working through Lightroom  4.2 and I inserted my product key for it when invoking it for the first time via Lightroom  4.2 as well.
Then I went onto the Nik Software download site and downloaded a more updated version which was Sharpener Version 3.01. When I ran the installer from this download it actually does see and show both Photoshop Elements v10 and Lightroom  4.2 as "compatable" and it installed the plugins from that .. and they both work ... even though I had it working already (seemingly) from the CD install I obviously installed over it and the plugin still works in Lightroom 4.2. It also works now in Photoshop Elements v10. Only issue I had here was I had to re-insert my product key and activate it when I used the plugin via Photoshop Elements v10 for the first time... but if that is the extent of a techincal difficulty - I would take it anytime!.
    Step 3:
    =======
When it came to installing Viveza 2 off the CD, it only saw Lightroom  4.2 as compatable. I did something similar in this case. I let it install to Lightroom 4.2 as a plugin and proved it worked and activated its produvt key. Then I downloaded V2.009 off the website. I re-installed from it (over the Lightroom 4.2 one obvously again) and it now also sees Photoshop Elements 10 as compatable and installs correctly. Strangely enough I did not have to enter my product key a second time when I went to invoke the plugins via Photoshop Elements v10 in this case. What the hell! - the subtleties of software!
    Step 4:
    =======
Dfine 2.0 - the setup for the CD again finds NEITHER of the 2 applications on its compatablity list, but it put it into Lightroom 4.2 anyway (like the Sharpener component behaved) and I proved it worked. Then I downloaded version 2.112 from the Nik Software website and it finds both applications compatable. Also I did have to re-enter my product key when first invoking the plugin via the Photoshop Elements v10 editor (like as in the case of Sharpener)
    Step 5:
    =======
HDR Efex Pro (which comes on the vendors CD with a promise to a free upgrade to HDR Efex Pro 2) .... the setup.exe sees Lightroom  4.2 as compatable but does not see Photoshop Elements  v10. Be careful ... this component is NOT A PLUGIN ... to see and use it in Lightroom 4 you must select photos and then do menu option EXPORT WITH PRESET HDR EFEX PRO. It does not work as a plugin within Photoshop Elements (any version) . I obtained my free upgrade too and it works from Lightroom. Dont even try to configure it manually as a plugin for Elements. Instead if you save files as JPG or TIFF you can open the EXE directly in the Program Files area (if you have 64 bit make sure to open that EXE not the 32 bit one) and you can use it in standalone mode. There is only one menu option within HDr Efex Pro when using it this way ...  File-Open.
So to conclude ... (leaving HDR Efex aside because we know it will not plugin to Elements) ... I have them all working in both Lightroom and Elements. As I begin to learn Lightroom and move away from Elements for cataloging and edits, I know I can invoke most of my workflow plugins from both products. People say I should persist in Lightroom, but if for some reason I dont, I have the fall back position of having everything working out of Elements 10 anyway. It's been a bit of chore getting to this point, but others might find my workaround useful.

  • Nike+ software NOT shuffling my running playlist.  WHY???

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong, but I have repeatedly tried to create an iTunes/iPod playlist specifically to use when running with my iPhone and my Nike+ shoes. It's called "Running Mix" and is set to shuffle on both the MacBook Pro and on my iPhone itself. Problem is, when I start a workout using the Nike+ software and use this playlist, it doesn't shuffle the songs at all. It plays them in order. I cannot figure out why the Nike+ software isn't shuffling the songs in the playlist. Any help? Any ideas? Surely I must be doing something wrong.
    Thanks, Jason

Nike+ and the iPod functionality of your 3Gs are both apps which are capable of running in the background, per se. Start your iPod app, shuffle the playlist of your choice and THEN start the Nike+ app. When you get into your workout, select "now playing." This will stick with your shuffled songs.
Further, you can hit the home button and start an app like "Couch to 5k" or C25k and have it prompt you for certain phases of your workout.

  • Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, and Nik Software playing together

I have Photoshop Elements 10 and number of plugins, like Topaz Labs ones. I have also just acquired Lightroom. I do want to get CS5 eventually but that is not in the near future.
I am thinking of getting Nik Software's Complete Collection. It does not support Elements 10, but it does support Lightroom. So solution seems easy, just use it in Lightroom. That solution could also result in $200 saving as edition that includes support for Photoshop and Lightroom is right now $399 while one that supports just Lightroom (and Aperture but that is not of relevance to me as I am a Windows user) is $199.
However, I do not want to lose benefits of other plugins I have so going with solely Lightroom edition means increased going back and forth between Photoshop and Lightroom.
So question for those experienced with 3 of these together: Do you foresee issues with getting edition that just supports Lightroom? What things I might feel are missing / might frustrate me with this approach?

I purchased the complete Suite from Nik and use it with Lightroom and it has worked well for me. Of course, I spend 95% of my time in LR3 and only use PSE for occassional tweaks like cloning etc. The Nik package offers a lot of functionality, esp when added to all that is aready available through LR3.

  • Elements 10 and nik software.

I recently upgraded to elements 10 and have installed nik software. While I can access nik through the drop down filter menu I cant get the selective tool to come up on the desktop when i open the programme. The Automation tools is also not highlighted so i can not activate it here either. Can anyone please help.
I have downloaded the same software on my laptop and it is working fine, just not on my pc

I’ve not used Nik Software but have used Lightroom and PSE together and the two programs integrate well. If Elements was already installed Lightroom should automatically recognize it as your external editor otherwise you need to set up external handling in Lightroom preferences.
I assume any changes made in Lightroom with a Nik plug in will register as part of the Lightroom Develop settings. Is that how it should work?
My usual routine is to highlight an image in the Lightroom Library and then
    1) Press Ctrl+E to edit in photoshop - choose PSD with Lightroom settings
    2) Image opens automatically in PSE Editor
    3) Do further editing in PSE and press Ctrl+S to save an overwrite the Lightroom export copy. Click OK
    4) Press Ctrl+W to close the saved PSD file which automatically updates the Lightroom thumbnail.
It all works quite seamlessly. Use the PSD copy in light room to export a jpeg or any other format of your choosing.

  • Does Elements 13 support Nik software?

I upgraded from Elements 11 to 13.  My Nik filters are listed in 13's Filters menu.  I can open the Nik filters to edit a photo but the edits won't save into an Elements 13 layer.

I recently learned that Nik software is not currently compatible with Elements 13.  However, it's in the final stages of testing by their engineers.  Once testing has been completed and any updates that are needed for full compatibility are applied, it will be added to Nik's Licensing & Compatibility page.

  • Why doesn't "Elements 10 Editor only" allow the use of Nik Software plug ins??

I was very excited yesterday when I noticed in the Apple App store that a version of Elements called "Elements 10 Editor only" was for sale.  Since I never use the Organizer this is perfect for me.  Unfortunately, it will not allow Nik software plugins to be installed.   There is no "plugins folder" included.  In every other way the "Elements 10 Editor only" version is wonderful.  Loads fast, runs clean and fast and is just a wonderful product, and something I've been hoping would come along for years.  I can't believe Adobe didn't allow for the use of plug-ins.  Looks like I just wasted $80.
Any suggestions or work-arounds to allow plug ins to be used?

Thank you, Barbara! I spent considerable time today on the phone with Nik Software.  Both Viveza and Color Efex will work on the full version of Elements 10.  NOT on the version "Elements 10 EDITOR ONLY".  The reason is because Adobe did not include a plug in folder when they released Elements 10 EDITOR ONLY.  Thanks, Barbara for the screen shot..however, the Editor only version has no folders at all!!!  It's really strange.  Why would Adobe release an Editor Only version of Elements that doesn't work with plug ins?  I allowed Nik Software techs remote access to my Mac, and while version 9 has the same folder breakdown you provided, this Editor Only version of 10 has nothing except the application icon!  You have been wonderfully helpful as usual, Barbara, thank you very much.  It looks, though that I just wasted $80.  Oh well, back to PSE9 !
Here's an update....using your method..I was able to find a folder for plug-ins within the program file.  Used it to try and install Viveza and Color Efex, but Adobe says it "does not accept that type of file".

  • Elements 10 & NIK software

I had to have my laptop repaired. As a result, I had to completely re-install all my editing software.  I re- installed Elements 10, done the updates (so as it would read my Sony A77 RAW files) and re-installed the NIK software.
When I went to use certain aspects of the software, Windows shut down Elements.  I updated the Applications manager, un installed and re-installed the NIK software, but this made only a slight difference in that only one of the apps that didnt work before, now worked.
Can anyone suggest what else to do so that ALL the NIK software apps work (I know PSE10 doesn't support the HDR). Please give step by step instructions as I am not that au-fait with the technical jargon.
I have also contacted NIK with this, just in case, my original link did not go to the latest downlaod version (May 2013).
    Many thanks
    Steve

A recent NIK update broke several Adobe products. Google issued a knowledge base article advising you to download and install a fresh copy of  v1.107 over your existing version. You can get the latest version from the 'Try Now' button on the NIK homepage at http://www.google.com/nikcollection/.

  • I downloaded my Elements 11 software and resitered it and now it won't open on my computer . . . .

I downloaded my Elements 11 software and resitered it and now it won't open on my computer . . . . do I need to re-install it??

I am working off of Windows 7. My husband restarted the computer and it works fine now. But before you would click on the icon to open the program it would appear as if it were firing up and then just shut down with no message or anything. Not sure but it looks as if it's running ok now! Thanks for responding though!

  • Preview is broken and when exported in Nik Software plugin, it's black or over bright

I'm working on a project for a Sail championship (last month the J24 European Championship, while this week Interlaghi) and since I started the last one I've really great problems with preview and "exporting" in Nik Software, that I never had before.
    This is workflow:
shot image in raw (Canon eos500d)
import image in Aperture3 (images are refered on external drive normally, but now for this project are refered on the desk, I've an 256[GB] SSD with 8[GB] of RAM)
edit the image with Aperture3 controls, if I'm not lucky leaving the full screen the preview (big) dissapear and broken (small)
if I'm lucky open the image in Nik Software (e.g. Dfine) and work on it, when finished if unlucky back to point 3
if not luck the image in Nik Software is Black
so regenerate preview, and similar action are taken (last night I've also rbuilt all archive, with cmd+alt click aperture icon)
if luck I can work and export
if not luck I must close Aperture and keep crossed fingers.
At the begining I thought it could be a problem of too many images in the same folder and aperture-project (1800), but this is not the first time I work with big volume (airplanes shooting in Axalp normally is 1200 shots in one day).
I thought even a speed problem on the archive (the externa HD is 5200rpm on FireWire).
So I decided to relocate raw files on the desk, as I said I've a 256[GB] SSD; but nothing change!
Maybe a problem on TIFF export??
Someone can tell me a solution? the only big change in my usual workflow is that now there is Analog Efex Pro (that I don't use).
    extra: I'm using a MacBook Pro (after june 2009 version 5,5 )
    Here I post some screenshots:

    Update!!!
I just discovered, that the problem is generated by Aperture3 bug: when I go on some image it change setting of CURVE and/or LEVEL

  • Is new software around for Ipod Nano 5G with the Nike sensor and Polar wearlink HeartRateMonitor to get spoken feedback on heartrate-zone, so you get a warning if your heartrate is higher or lower than the predefined range.

    I have:
Ipod Nano 5G with Nike+ sensor and Polar wearlink Heartrate monitor:
works fine, linking is easy, but....
Software is rather minimal: Heartrate is on the screen and you get feedback when the center-button is touched.
To get better results, more functions would be useful, like defining a heartrate zone (like Polar`s own-zone) and automatic spoken feedback if the heartrate is out of the pre-defined range. Also automatic spoken feedback on actual and average heartrate every pre-defined time-interval would be very useful: like the spoken feedback on distance and actual pace I get on my Iphone with Nike+GPS
    Anyone have any suggestions ?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone.  My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones.  Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.
