Nike+ Basic Workout: No spoken feedback

Using basic workout should I get spoken feedback at intervals during my workout without pressing the center button? How often? Currently I get none with my second generation nano.

You won't get automatic spoken feedback with the basic workout. You need to use a distance or time workout.

  • Is new software around for Ipod Nano 5G with the Nike sensor and Polar wearlink HeartRateMonitor to get spoken feedback on heartrate-zone, so you get a warning if your heartrate is higher or lower than the predefined range.

    I have:
Ipod Nano 5G with Nike+ sensor and Polar wearlink Heartrate monitor:
works fine, linking is easy, but....
Software is rather minimal: Heartrate is on the screen and you get feedback when the center-button is touched.
To get better results, more functions would be useful, like defining a heartrate zone (like Polar`s own-zone) and automatic spoken feedback if the heartrate is out of the pre-defined range. Also automatic spoken feedback on actual and average heartrate every pre-defined time-interval would be very useful: like the spoken feedback on distance and actual pace I get on my Iphone with Nike+GPS
    Anyone have any suggestions ?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone.  My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones.  Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.

  • Nike+ iPod resets when selecting "Basic" workout; no other runs available

This is frustrating. I've reset my nano 3g to factory defaults several times, restoring everything from scratch. I don't use nested playlists and I've freed up more than 900MB. I'm running v1.1.3 and it still seems to exhibit this exact behavior after just a few runs:
The iPod will reset whenever I select a "Basic" workout. Afterwards, very few, if any choices will show up under the other workouts (calories, distance, etc). If I try Basic again, it resets again and then NO options show up under any workouts, making it impossible to use the Nike + kit!
I've tried restoring the iPod multiple times and this issue has been ongoing since March of 2008 - a full year.
Any ideas? I do have about 25 playlists, even though none are nested. Is this a quantity of playlists issue and maybe the root folder in the nesting is counted as an additional playlist.
Please help if you have any ideas or solutions! FYI, this problem started back in the original version of the firmware and has occured even after a restore in every version since.

Ok. Here's an update. I actually returned my old nano to Apple, while it was still under warranty, and was able to get a new one. Brand spankin' new...Plug in the nike+, the runs show up. Perform and reset, and the runs are gone again! Same problem!!!
    HELP!

  • Spoken feedback doesn't work in walk function 6th generation iPod nano?

Spoken feedback function doesn't work in the Nike+ fitness walk function on 6th generation iPod nano? It's only in working in the running mode?!

  • No longer getting spoken feedback at end of run

I'm no longer getting spoken feedback at the end of my runs - I have it set to spoken feedback, it used to work but it now no longer does - wierd. Still comes up on screen at the end but nothign else. I've not changed anything, and it's fully up to date with software - any ideas?? or how can I just get it back??

If you are pausing the workout before you end it. After you end the workout un-pause the music and you will hear the feed back at the end of the run.
After the firm ware update, the pause method to end the workout also pauses the spoken feed back. You can still pause the workout before you end it, but you will have to un-pause it to hear the feed back.
    Hope this helps.

  • With imatch, can I build playlists and synch to my nano as I would with main computer? Also, can you synch nike plus workouts via imatch successfully?

With imatch, can I build playlists and synch to my nano as I would with main computer? Also, can you synch nike plus workouts via imatch successfully?

The Nano cannot connect to iCloud to download iMatch songs, playlists, etc. and iMatch is only for music you own it does not work with Nike plus.

  • Why didnt it tell me my calories after basic workout?

i forgot to put in my weight, so it was defaulted to 100. i did basic workout, but when i was done, it said calories n/a. does it only tell you calories under CALORIES workout? does it not tell you how much u burned under all other workout types?
    ty

Although I have not verified this myself, others have said that you cannot rely on the default weight of 100 lbs; you actually have to set a weight to get the calories to work. (Presumably, if you weigh 100 lbs, you must at least tweak the weight setting and then tweak it back.)

  • Spoken feedback and calibration issues

Hi all. I found an older thread on these problems but it had been archived so I couldn't reply. Thought I'd start another in case there are new solutions and to see whether issues persist for others.
The spoken feedback works for 2-3 runs and then quits. Resetting takes care of that so I try to remember to reset every other day or so... a pain needless to say.
Now, my runs are being severly underestimated and when I try to calibrate I am not given the option on the calibration dial to increase the distance...I can only plug in a lesser number. It used to give me a range below and above the recorded run but not anymore. Same thing happens when I try to calibrate a certain distance prior to running.
I did see where folks mentioned resetting the sensor so I will try that but not sure how to do that. I'll post back with the results of that.

Alright. After resetting the sensor (i.e., turning it off and then on a day later), my next run was more accurately measured but still off about .3 of a mile. The next run, however, was very accurate and I had the option to increase the distance on the calibration dial if I desired.
Hope this helps others who've had issues with accuracy and calibration

  • HT1602 Is there a way to reset the spoken feedback for Nike +?

I took a year off running due to an injury and I'd like to reset the feedback so I get those positive messages until I hit my old milestones again.

Once way is to restore the Nano to factory settings in iTunes. This procedures wipes all content/data from the device and resets all settings back to their defaults.

  • Nike plus workouts

I recently downloaded some nike workouts. There is no coaching voice when I play them. The digital booklet says to choose "basic" form "workout menu" and then choose a male or female voice. I can't find either of these or the menu for that matter that has workout. Please, could someone help? Thanks:)

Sorry, wasn't as clear as I should have been...
The workout track that comes with purchasing a Nike Workout "Album" is the track that has the coaching on it. This plays just like a regular audio track.
The options that the digital booklet was referring to is the Audible feedback that can play at either regular intervals during a Goal-based workout or just when you push the center button during a regular workout using an iPod Nano with software version 1.2 and the Nike+iPod receiver. You can choose a male or female voice for the real-time feedback.

  • Ipod nano 7th nike plus workout show burned calories AND hearthrate

    Hi,
For years i used during my multi workout like crosstrainer and running a simple polar hearthrate band plus a watch so during the workout i can easily see the so far burned calories AND my hearthrate at that moment.
Now i upgraded to a ipod nano 7th gen plus a polar nike plus band, and i cannot find a workout on my ipod which simply counts calories and displays them together with the heartrate.
Anyone has a tip, or should i get back at my old polar watch ?
    Thx and greets.
    Mamo

I have spent HOURS trying to get my stuff to show on Nike+.  I spent an hour on the phone with Nike, and another hour with Apple, who told me to contact Nike again.  Then I saw up2105's respnse up above and it clicked.....I, too, had been using the WALK option, because I'm trying to get back into shape and I'm not yet up to running 100% of my workout.  And WALK does not show up in Nike+.
I don't even know why WALK is an option, if it won't sync with Nike+.  And why did their techs not mention this to me at the very beginning????  What about older folks who don't run anymore....are their workouts not worthy of charting on Nike+?  Anyway....thank you up2105!!!

  • HT1632 Ipod Nano Nike Plus Workout Tracking

I do not remember creating an account on Nike Plus to track my workouts. I just realized that my ipod can be used as a pedometer, and have completed 3 workouts. The itunes library apparently sent the workout data to nikeplus.com, but I do not know how to retrieve it. Any ideas? Thanks!

You must logged into your Nike+ plus account online to view your previous workout history.

  • Nike+ loses workout

Every so often, when I press "End Workout", I completely lose my workout. Is any one else seeing this problem?

Apparently never. Whoever designed the app apparently didn't realize that when we hit the "end workout" button we want the data saved. Unbelievable.

  • Cant get started?

Ok, first I have to get this out of my system. This is my first experience with an Apple product and I have seen nothing of the supposed "ease of use" they are supposed to have. I just spent nearly 40 minutes just jumping through multiple hoops just so I could post a question here - and apparently the only support I can get is from other users - not the company I bought the product from.
Ok - so here is my problem. I have the Nike+iPod. The quick start says step 1)download and install the latest iTunes software. Step 2) Download and install the latest iPod Software Updater from www.apple.com/ipod/download. There is no mention of or link to any "iPod Software Updater" at that url.
So... I'm immediately dead in the water. This is "user friendly"? Somebody please tell me how to actually get the software I need to make this product work. Thanks.

Yes I have an iPod nano 2nd gen. I finally gave up on updating the software. It turned out that the Nike+ worked with the iPod as it came. Maybe I'll figure out how to update the software some other time. It (the apple web site) is happy to let me download it when I am at my 28.8k dialup link (whoopee - its over 20mb) but still insists that I am offline when I go to my wireless access.
Now that I have actually tried the product (iPod / Nike+) I have a couple other questions. First, the manual says that "As you work out, Nike + iPod periodically gives spoken feedback on your status.". Well, I ran ten miles and it never peeped. I could get status manually but not "periodically" as told. I do have the voice (female) on so, per the manual, I should be getting status updates. Is it possible that you don't get these updates if you have music on? If so, the manual doesn't mention that (why am I not suprised?) and it is the stupidest feature yet - its an iPod for craps sake. Does this mean that if I want these "periodic" updates I have to run with silence? Please say it isn't so.
Another question. Is there a way to have it automatically announce my current status at a given distance (or time) interval? It is such an obvious feature and one that every other pace device I have ever seen has that I find it pretty incredible if it doesn't have it. The obvious use is to have it announce your status every mile. If that feature is there I cant find it. Actually, what determines the "periodically" interval referred to in the manual?
I suppose I sound like a curmugeon. I spent a good part of my career redesigning crappy software. People used to pay me to rewrite systems that where so slow, so unfriendly, and so incomplete and unfocused as to be virtually unusable. Badly designed software just drives me nuts - followed by missing, misleading, or grossly incomplete documentation. What really makes me crazy is seeing a product that is wonderfully designed but crappily implemented. That seems to be what we are dealing with here.
