Nike+ -- Biking and Elliptical

Will either the free Nike+ (iPod) app on the iPhone 4S, or the paid Nike+ GPS app on the iPhone 4S, allow me to track and upload exercise details while working out on a real versus stationary bicycle, and/or an elliptical machine that is NOT setup for Nike+?
I think that I have answered the bicycle question already via research but I won't know until I get my bike back from the repair shop.  I'm going to say, yes, the Nike+ GPS app will work and track bike rides like runs, capture and provide data and allow you to upload to the Nike+ site at the end.  At least, that's what I hope that it will do.
From my research so far, the answer on the elliptical machine is no.  I'm not even sure that one of the other exercise solutions (i.e. ANT+) is able to track exercise on an elliptical due to the way that steps/impacts are measured.  So I'm asking the community if anyone has come across a way to measure, track and/or upload elliptical workouts on an iPhone, using whatever apps and hardware necessary, but preferably a setup that works with Nike+ so that I could keep it all in the same place.  Wondering if Nike+ lets you manually upload workout details after the fact?  Haven't checked that one out yet.
Anyway, those are my questions - biking and elliptical workout details captured on iPhone Nike+ (free or paid apps) and uploaded to Nike+ site, thanks in advance for your response.

Nike+ GPS should track outdoor cycling just fine. However, indoors, it uses the accelerometer in the phone to measure steps, as you've discovered.
Honestly, I can't think of any way to do what you want. There are other tracking websites (DailyMile, Runkeeper, etc) that will allow you to manually upload workout information. DailyMile will also sync with Nike+ so, in theory, you could sync your GPS workouts to DailyMile from NIke+ and then manually enter your elliptical workouts. You'd need to make a note of the workout data from the machine's readout.
Best of luck.

  • Is new software around for Ipod Nano 5G with the Nike sensor and Polar wearlink HeartRateMonitor to get spoken feedback on heartrate-zone, so you get a warning if your heartrate is higher or lower than the predefined range.

    I have:
Ipod Nano 5G with Nike+ sensor and Polar wearlink Heartrate monitor:
works fine, linking is easy, but....
Software is rather minimal: Heartrate is on the screen and you get feedback when the center-button is touched.
To get better results, more functions would be useful, like defining a heartrate zone (like Polar`s own-zone) and automatic spoken feedback if the heartrate is out of the pre-defined range. Also automatic spoken feedback on actual and average heartrate every pre-defined time-interval would be very useful: like the spoken feedback on distance and actual pace I get on my Iphone with Nike+GPS
    Anyone have any suggestions ?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone.  My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones.  Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.

In LR6CC, after using the merge to HDR and the photo returns to LR as a DRG, it is not automatically put into a previously set up stack. For example a stack of three photos. If I use NIK HDR and the photo returns to LR, the stack is automatically changed from 3 to 4. When LR's HDR merge brings a photo back into LR's library, the stack number does not change and the DRG version isn't included in the stack.

    Hi,
The Ps CS6 public beta version contains the same camera support as found in Ps CS5/5.5 compatible CR 6.6. There will be future updates to CR 7 for Ps CS6 to pick up more camera support. The Nikon D800 NEF files are not supported, yet.
If you like to work with your D800 files in the public beta build now, you'll have to get the DNG Converter 6.7 from here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
and convert your files to DNG.

  • Problem with Nike plus and running in non-Nike sneakers

I love running with my Nike plus and my itouch, but I've been having trouble with my Nike plus logging incorrect mileage when I attach the foot sensor to my non-Nike running shoes (in one of those little velcro pouches secured to the shoelaces). For instance, I ran a half marathon and it logged 4 miles. When I put the sensor back in my Nike plus shoes (which aren't quite as comfortable for me) everything is fine. Is anyone else having this problem? Should I carve a hole in the insole of my other sneakers to embed the sensor?

Seems something got corrupted with this VI. Copy things over to a fresh VI and things should be OK.

  • Trouble with nike plus and nano

I am having trouble with my Nike plus and my nano staying on.  It worked for a while but now it stops recording the work out after anywhere from 1 to 24 minutes.  Any suggestions?

All the workout data would get uploaded to the Nike+ website into a single-user's data.
However, if you really don't want to buy two units, the Nike+ website does offer you the ability to "name" your workouts. So, each time you work out, the two of you could give your workouts a name that would allow to differentiate whose is whose. For instance, "His Workout #1" and "Her Workout #1," etc. The combined totals would represent both "His" and "Her" workout totals, but you could at least tell the difference between individual workouts.
    Hope this helps!

  • Using two Nike+ Nanos and one iTunes Library

    Hi,
I have a Nike+ account and a nano. I am considering buying my wife a Nike+ kit to go with her nano.
We share a single iTunes library.
Can we use two nanos with different Nike+ accounts from the same iTunes account? And both upload our runs to our own accounts without confusion?

You can always setup seperate accounts on your Mac for you & your wife & place the library in /Users/Shared/ as an alternative. However, as others have posted, the settings for Nike+ are per iPod.

  • Nike Plus and iTunes error (-9812)

    Hi,
I'm trying to sync my workout data to nikeplus.com from iTunes. I keep getting the error: -
"iTunes could not connect to nikeplus.com. An unknown error occurred (-9812).
Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
I dont know how to fix this. Can someone suggest a solution? I cant find anything on the error details...
I am using Windows XP Home, iTunes v8.0.1.11, iPod Nano 1st Gen v1.3.1, FireFox v3.03 and I've set it to accept cookies from nike.com and nikeplus.com
    /Arvind

Well after days of trying to figure this out..... i finally got it! It was something to do with my Kaspersky Anti-Virus/Firewall. I saw that when I connected my iPod to my PC, Kaspersky was scanning port 443. It kept returning an invalid certificate for www.nike.com. So I opened up the port settings for Kaspersky, unchecked the box for monitoring port 443 and tried again.
    It works perfectly!

  • Using Nike+ receiver and Bluetooth transmitter on a nano

does any one know if it is any way possibl;e to use a nike+ receiver and a docking port based bluetooth transmitter at the same time . ie is there such a device as a doubler to make 2 docking ports from the one on the nano. I have another bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the audio jack and works with the nike+ receiver but through that one the remote control features og my bluetooth headset wont control the nano. Cheers Andrew

sort of. you can try shufling within specific playlists on the ipod.
create a playlist containing only the songs you want to hear during a shuffle.
then, on the iPod, go into the "Settings" menu, and switch the Shuffle control within there to "Songs".
now head into the playlist with just the songs the want to shuffle, and start playing. the nano will now shuffle within that playlist.
(that's how i do this on green eyes.)

  • Nike+ Sensor and iPhone question

    Hello all,
I'm somewhat confused about this Nike+ Sensor and how/why it interacts with the Nike+ app. I'm really thinking about getting one of these today but I want to make sure it does what I think it does.
I play indoor football and I want to know how far I run when I play. Can I put the Nike+ sensor in my shoe, play football, plug the sensor into my iPhone after football and upload the info to my iPhone? Or would I need to carry my iPhone about for the time that I'm playing football as well?
    Thanks

  • Nike Sensor and Nano .

I am using the Nike Sensor and am now getting the "you have completed another 500 miles" message  on my Ipod almost daily.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I have done a soft reset but that has not fixed it.

The recent iPod touch and iPhone models have the "receiver" built-in, but not iPod nano.  The "sensor" is the part that goes in (or on) your shoe.
You need this kit (with receiver and sensor)
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MA365LL/F/Nike-iPod-Sport-Kit
When you insert the receiver into the nano's dock connector, the new functionality should become accessible on the screen.  I don't have the 6G nano, but that's how it work with my 5G nano.
The sensor that goes in (or on) your shoe is an accelerometer.  It tracks movement and speed of your foot, which is used to calculate distance and pace (pretty accurately), and it also tracks total time.  You can pause and resume your run.  You can get an audio (spoken) status of current time, pace, and distance, at any time during the run, and at the end.  You can use any completed run to better "calibrate" its measurement of distance and pace.
I wear New Balance, so my sensor goes in a little pouch that straps on the shoe lace.

  • Can two people use the same Nike plus and Nano?

Or will we each need our own. My husband purchased one and I would also like to use it. We work out at different times and it would be nice not to have to purchase different units, but will it upload both or our workout information or does anyone know if we can pick which workouts to upload. Thanks!!

  • Nano with Nike+ Freezes and Won't Play Podcasts

I found this topic from 1.5 years ago and I'm having the same issue (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1130986&tstart=390) . I can't find anything on a solution for this issue. Does anyone know of a fix? I've been using the work around of starting the Podcast first and then starting the run, but I'm running longer and would like to be able to listen to multiple podcasts.
If I start a playlist from within the Nike+ menu it skips all podcasts. If I start a podcast, then start the Nike+, it works but will freeze up if I fast forward (right arrow) 'too much'. My ipod also locks up every couple of days when I start up a podcast (various podcasts). In fast it's done this since I got it a couple of years ago. I had it replaced by Apple because they thought there might be a problem with the ipod but this one has been doing it for years too.
All I use this ipod for is running (I have a few others that don't support Nike+ - anyone know a way to get Nike+ working on a first get ipod Touch?) so I would like to get this resolved.
I'm training for a marathon so I'll be using this a lot more over the coming months. I appreciate any help and suggestions.
2nd Gen 2GB Silver iPod Nano with latest firmware
    OS 10.5.7 with latest iTunes
1st Gen Nike+ receiver (bought when first released) with 3 different sensors

A simple work around is to create a smart playlist. I was having the same problems, plus my nano would freeze when I tried to sync it with iTunes. I didn't try the smart playlist option with older versions of iTunes, but with the newest, it seems to work fine. I can play any and all podcasts in the playlist, move through them and select which I want to listen to while I run, and it finally syncs properly when my run is over. I just had to play with the parameters a bit so the playlist included the podcasts I wanted to listen to while I ran. Here is where I found the tip.

I haven't tried it with audiobooks though. Good luck.

  • Lightroom,Nik plugins and color spaces

I'm having an issue and not sure who is holding the smoking gun.  I have the Nik ultimate collection installed which covers Lightroom and Photoshop CS5 extended. I work primarily in Lightroom and apply most corrections globally but occasionally i need to do localized adjustments so the photo gets shipped off to Photoshop.  Here's a typical scenario:
    1) From Lightroom edit in Dfine 2.0 for noise - as copy with Lightroom adjustments which gets copied as a tiff.
    2) From Lightroom edit in Viveza 2 - as original since we're now working with a tiff and I don't want a copy for every single thing I'm doing.
    3) Edit in Photoshop
Now there's two issues at this point:
    1) The edits do not show up in the Lightroom history - it's like nothing happened.
    2) Photoshop will complain that the assigned profile is sRGB.  Really?
#1 is a PITA because if I want to rewind I have to start all over since there's no history - what exactly is responbsible to set an edit as history?  Lightroom or the plugin?
#2 is by far the most serious as it degrades the work in a seriously bad manner.  I mean, WTH - I'm moving along in ProPhoto Ferrarri space and all of a sudden - *boom* - I'm running in sRGB moped mode.
I looked at edit->Preferences->External Editing -> Additional External Editor and indeed when I select the Nik plugins from the combo box  preferences the default for the plugins is sRGB.  I can change to ProPhoto and quit.  I repeated this for each plugin assuming that somewhere the setting was remembered.  Nope  LR acts dumb as a rock and shows sRGB as the defaults for all except the currently selected plugin.
    So my questions are:
    - who's gonna own up to the problem - LR or Nik?
    - how can I work around it?
    - how can I make LR remember the settings?  Not a registry key nor INI file in sight to set them - so where/how are the plugins tracked?
    Thanks for any help!
    Jon

    Jon,
The User Interface for changing how external editors are invoked is about as smart as your average chunk of granite.
After you change the Color Space to the one you want, you have to click on the Preset box and choose "Save current settings as new preset...". Not exactly intuitive, but there you are.
