Nike+ Running Delivers New Ways To Motivate Runners

Spotify is pleased to partner with Nike+ Running on its newest app update, designed to help runners enhance their running experience.
More details from Nike here.
Below is the full blog post, originally published by Nike
When it comes to running, music is motivation – just ask the earbud-wearing athletes pounding sidewalks, tracks, treadmills and tree-lined trails. Likewise, an ever-growing body of research has confirmed music’s performance-enhancing effects: it can reduce a runner’s perception of exertion and fatigue as well as increase happiness and excitement.
Nike+ Running’s newest app update, developed in partnership with Spotify, integrates these findings and builds upon the success of the Nike+ Run Club playlists already on Spotify by enhancing runners’ overall in-run music experience. Notably, the update introduces Nike exclusive Pace Stations, which invite users to input their pace goal and musical preference. This data then informs a target BPM (beats per minute), which in turn creates a personalized 100-song playlist designed to push the runner’s pace. The first-of-its-kind instructive experience then guides runners to their goals when they step in-beat to the prescribed songs.
“Since our launch as the original running app in 2006, music has always been core to the Nike+ Running experience” said Adam Roth, Nike VP, Global Running Brand Marketing. “Our partnership with Spotify takes that experience to a new level, leveraging personalized music as motivational fuel every run, for every runner.”
The update, which debuts July 20, allows users to stream Spotify’s 30-million-song catalog directly from the Nike+ Running app.
Spotify music is also an integral part of the Nike “Find Your Fast”challenge this summer. An eight-week program developed by expert Nike+ Run Club coaches, the challenge includes workouts, tunes and expert tips to help all runners, whether they are completing their first mile or realizing a personal best.
Nike and Spotify are combining forces to create the ultimate motivating experience for runners,” said Erin Clift, VP Consumer and Partner Marketing, Spotify. “Nike+ runners now have access to millions of tracks through Spotify to help them achieve their personal goals and find their fast this summer.”
To celebrate the IOS only premium Spotify experience of Nike+ Running Pace Station integration, Spotify is offering Nike+ users a seven-day free premium trial with no credit card. Individuals who choose to enter a credit card can receive an additional 60-day trial.

Count me in too! I'm not a fast runner, but training for the Boston Half Marathon in October...

  • HT201272 I don't have much luck in working with itunes.  I have had three iphones and now have an iphone 4G.  I have purchased almost 200 songs from itunes and most of them have showed up on my new phone.  my problem is I like it synced to my nike running

I have had an iphone 4g for about six months.  I had purchased around 250 songs from itunes on my previous iphone.  When I got the new phone and synced with my nike running, most of the songs transferred.  Most of them are in my store but are listed 2-3 times.  some of them are in bold print, others in light print.  When i'm running, the songs skipped over and only play the ones in dark.  I have no idea what to do to get all of the songs backk that I bought.  Jessica14

    Hi ozzie329,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I would suggest you transfer your iTunes purchases from the iPhone to the computer first.
Then in your iTunes library on the computer, find and remove the duplicates.
    Then resync to your Nike.
Here are a few articles to help you do this ...
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library
iTunes 11 for Mac: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • Using Nike+ website and Nike Running

If you want to use Nike's Running Schedule, whilst it accepts your Nike+ log in as your log in for Nike Running, it will only grab the workouts from Nike+ after you log in for the first time on Nike Running. This can be a problem if you have been using Nike+ for a while as all of your earlier will not be uploaded. There is a way round this.....
If you take all your completed workouts out of the "synced" folder on your Nano and drop them back into the "latest" folder, then delete all of your workouts from Nike+ and plug your Nano back into your PC, the workouts get re-uploaded to Nike+ as new workouts. They retain the date and time stamp as original completed, the only difference is they all show up as "new" on Nike+ but this only lasts a day. Your stats and challenges and goals are unaffected (well mine were!) as is your position in the weekly, monthly and ever league tables. However, Nike Running now sees these workouts as "new" and populates your schedule retrospectively to when the workouts started, not when you first logged into Nike Running.
I hope that this is useful

David, you're a star! Great information.

  • Ipod classic should be compatible with nike + running, what do you think?

i have a ipod classic and it should be more modern, i'm tired of simple games in this ipod, i run a little and i would like have nike + running in my ipod

The reason it's sometimes recommended to do a full discharge/charge cycle on a new device is to calibrate the battery indicator. It doesn't do anything for the battery itself.
The quote you've given agrees with everything I've been taught about lithium-ion batteries.

  • Anyone here use the nike+ running app with the ipod touch?

i just got the new ipod touch 5g and wanted to get the nike+ running app because it's free, the alternate would be nike+ sensor is $20 extra.
    so i wanted to know:
    1. how accurate the nike+ running app is in term of recording distance? since i don't have the iphone i wont be able to use the gps function and im not sure if that'll be affecting the distance measurement.
    2. how accurate is the speed tracker? same as above, since the ipod doesn't have a gps function.
    3. in the setting for the app, what does it mean to reset calibration?

i just used it for the first time. it recorded that i ran for 2.5 miles, i went home and checked an online map and i only actually ran 2.03 miles. if i calibrate it, will my future runs be more accurate? also, what if one day i decide to run at a different pace or i walk a lot more, will this affect the distance recorded?

  • How do i run a new software program (Investment Account Manager for Windows) using Windows emulation software?

How can I run a new software program (Investment Account Manager for Windows) using Windows emulation software?

You will need a licensed copy of Windows 7, and I recommend VMFusion. You can run the program in Unity mode just as if it were a Mac application. Or, you can install Windows in Bootcamp and run the Mac in Windows when you boot and run it that way. Depends on the resources. I prefer the VM method because it is cleaner and gives you more options as far as backups, etc.

Unknown/random errors, timeouts and all sorts of weirdities.
As described above, transmission errors can cause wide variety of symptoms ranging from device ICRC error to random device lockup, and, for many cases, there is no way to tell if an error condition is due to transmission error or not; therefore, it's necessary to employ some kind of heuristic when dealing with errors and timeouts. For example, encountering repetitive ABRT errors for known supported command is likely to indicate ATA bus error.
Once it's determined that ATA bus errors have possibly occurred, lowering ATA bus transmission speed is one of actions which may alleviate the problem.
I'd also add; make sure you have good backups when ATA errors are frequent

  • IPad keeps rebooting after battery run all the way down.

The battery in my ipad got run all the way down so I plugged it in to charge.   I got the icon with the red battery and the little lightning bolt so I thought it would charge if I left it overnight.
But after a few seconds of charging it goes to what looks like the bootup screen (the apple in the center of the screen).  It stays in that screen indefinitely.  I tried holding down home+sleep and it would go back to the battery charging screen but then try to reboot a few seconds later.
Any ideas what I should try next?

No. Just use your iPad and don't obsess about its battery. It will last for years.

  • The new way to Log In to BT Mail

Don't get me wrong - I may moan a bit but I am a BT fan and have been with them since before clay tablets were all the rage in the communications industry.  But why do they do such silly things?   For example I like the new way to sign in to my BT Yahoo email  from the BT.com Web site BUT when I have finished reading and sending my email, I elect to sign out I am then taken to a https://login.yahoo.com/ page instead of being returned to BT.com which I have now set as my home page. Of course, I may be doing something wrong - and any advice would be welcome.
<< Cave quid dicis, quando, et cui. >>

Yes and just another attempt to move frustrated BT customers to Yahho,s email site. They do have a duplicate for all BT Yahoo users. But you cant make changes there to accounts etc. I was asked by an Italian technical manager for a job as he thought I owned a large company along with another email wanting to supply weapons to me from a US registrated company in the defence trade as he thought I owned a UK protection company. Many more so I think Yahoo is making "good" commercial sense in using my account for others[special numbered account you cant delete] All very interesting  but I already know how the World runs and dont need them. I am sure the word weapons will have an effect.

My iPod shuts off repeatedly when using the Nike running app. Have already tried the headphones solution that Apple has recommended. Can anyone help?

Using the 5th generation iPod. Purchased it a few months ago before the new one was launched. Yes the workout randomly ends when I am no where near the time or distance I have programmed in. I keep tried to restart the workout and the same thing keeps happening over and over again. I figured it may have been the headphones but I have even tried holding the headphone connection in place, and different headphones as well and it continues to happen.

The strang thing is: click one column, the highlight column is jumping back and furth or delayed some time to move to the new selected column. It seems there is something wrong in loop.

You are really an expert. I put a 50 ms delay in for loop, it works.
    NO! That's NOT the solution!
You are creating a race condition by reading and writing value properties without need in the same node.
    Suggestions (See attached, LabVIEW 7.1):
You only need to write the listbox content once outside the loop. It can never change during th run!
Use an event structure. The loop only needs to execute if the list selection changes.
You can use autoindexing for array2.
(sorry, I took the subVIs out so I can run it, just put them back in). See if this is clear!
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

  • Since the iOS7 update on my iPad 2, I am having trouble charging it if it runs all the way down, and now, my Safari won't work at all, and it locks up when I click on Safari in the Setting section.  I have tried restoring, and Safari still does not work??

I cannot reset the Ipad either, Safari won't work, and it won't charge properly if the battery runs all the way down...

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • IPhoto 11: A new way to use the old E-Mail behaviour.

iPhoto 11 works with email in a new way. Rather than using an Application to send the email as before, what they have done is handle the email within iPhoto. So, you input your Email Account details - the name of your service, the account name, password, etc, and iPhoto uses that information to send the email via your account.
There's an element of swings and roundabouts in this.
Users of Apps like Thunderbird or Postbox could not email from within iPhoto in the past as those apps are not scriptable. Neither could it be used by people who use Web Mail and access their mail via a web browser. By going this way these people users have the same service as Mail/Entourage/Eudora users have.
So much for the swings: on the roundabouts, however, users of Mail (and I suspect Entourage and Eudora) have a change. Share -> Email does not work as before and you can no longer select pics within iPhoto, resize them and pass them over to their preferred application. Neither can you send photos without a Template.
However, by creating a Service sing Automator, it's perfectly possible to recreate the previous usage, though accessed a little differently. Here's one way:
    1. Launch Automator
    2. From the Dropdown sheet select to make a Service
    3. On the Right hand side, over the large pane (under the record button) select 'Service Receives +no input+'
    Uploaded with Skitch!
    3. From the Library Column (extreme left) click on Photos.
    4. From the Middle Column drag 'Get Selected iPhoto Items to the large pane.
    5. In the drop down on 'Get Selected Photo Items, select 'Photos'
    Uploaded with Skitch!
    6. Back to the Library column, extreme left and this time click on Mail
    7. Drag 'New Mail Message' to the right hand pane, under the existing 'Get iPhoto Items'
    8. Drag 'Add Attachments to Front Message' under that.
    9. Save it, Name it.
Now, in iPhoto select the photos you want to email
    then
iPhoto Menu -> Services -> And select the Service you created.
The Mail app comes forward with your Message, with files attached.
You can resize the Photos using the option at lower right of the Mail window:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
Using the Keyboard Shortcuts in System Preferences you can choose a shortcut to do the whole thing from the keyboard.
    Regards
    TD

You can also drag from iPhoto '11 to Entourage 2008 and Outlook 2011.
Both of these will create a new email adding the photos as full size attachments
Good tip and I just tried it. Too bad Entourage does not have the size box in the
lower right like Apple's Mail. I really don't like sending full size pictures in email
messages so I will use Terence Devlin's Automator script or drag and drop to the
    the Mail Dock Icon.
Two very good workarounds for the slow iPhoto mailer. I got spoiled using the
IPhoto 09 email interface with Entourage that let me select the size and the x-number
    of Great IPhotos
Thanks again for another tip on how to mail photos using iPhoto 11.
