Nike+ Sensor accuracy

There are so many conflicting stories posted on the forum about accuracy, most of which are negative. Can somebody whose had postive feedback from the sports kit and its accuracy please reply. I just bought the gear but have yet to get out. Regards

I've been pretty happy with the accuracy I'm getting. I calibrated the unit for both walking and running. Before calibration, it was off by about 10% (short) on most runs. After calibration, on my short loop (estimated at 2.85 miles from Google Maps) I've measured 2.79 both times I've run it. On my long loop (estimated at 7.0 from Google Maps) I got 7.01. So it seems to be within a few percent for typical runs -- as accurate as I trust my Google Maps measurements, anyway. On the other hand, for a trail run (with lots of steep hills) that was officially measured with a roller at 13.3 miles, I measured a bit over 14.
Not too surprising that an accelerometer will lose accuracy on a hilly course, but GPS doesn't do too well in the woods either.
Overall, I'm surprised how well the unit works. I'm not using Nike+ shoes; I've just got it taped under my shoelaces, though it remains firmly fixed from run to run. For best results, I suggest calibrating it on a long course. The fractional error introduced by starting/stopping and jitter will be much worse for the default 400 meter calibration than if you do a mile.

Use Replacement Nike sensor with old receiver?

I need a new Nike sensor since the battery ran out. I have read on the internet that the receiver (that you plug into your iPod) has flash firmware on it.
If this is actually true, then I am thinking I should get a new complete kit rather than just a new sensor. Is it just a hardware device, or does it also have non-upgradeable software on it -- or is the software entirely on-board the iPod, and therefore upgraded with the iPod firmware? My previous kit is now a few years old by the way.

Nike + sensor with 6th generation

I just received the iPod Nano 6th generation. I have the Nike+ sensor that I use to use with my last Nano. It appears that you don't need to use the sensor with the 6th generation, but I'm wondering if it is more accurate if you do use it.

My ipod stops or pauses while I am walking...I am using the nike sensor with my Ipod. Will it pause when I stop walking for a period of time?

I have purchased the nike sensor to use with my Ipod touch. I tried it on the golf course and it kept pausing after time.. I tried the different ways to work out eg basic, timed, calories...but it kept pausing after a short distance. Is this because you stop and start with golf? Is there a setting I can adjust?

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.

Is new software around for Ipod Nano 5G with the Nike sensor and Polar wearlink HeartRateMonitor to get spoken feedback on heartrate-zone, so you get a warning if your heartrate is higher or lower than the predefined range.

I have:
Ipod Nano 5G with Nike+ sensor and Polar wearlink Heartrate monitor:
works fine, linking is easy, but....
Software is rather minimal: Heartrate is on the screen and you get feedback when the center-button is touched.
To get better results, more functions would be useful, like defining a heartrate zone (like Polar`s own-zone) and automatic spoken feedback if the heartrate is out of the pre-defined range. Also automatic spoken feedback on actual and average heartrate every pre-defined time-interval would be very useful: like the spoken feedback on distance and actual pace I get on my Iphone with Nike+GPS
Anyone have any suggestions ?

I have the same issue! I purchased a nano 6th, polar hrm so I could run and receive spoken feedback when my heart rate was outside my preset zone. My suunto t3 used to beep when outside the preset zones. Automatic, periodic beeps or spoken feedback is the most important information to receive during exercise. I hope apple can update the software to add this simple yet critical feature.

Do I Need to Purchase the Nike+ Ipod Sport Kit or Just the Nike Sensor

I'm a newbie to all of this. I am considering purchasing either the new Ipod Nano or the updated Ipod Touch (32). Would I need to purchase the Nike Sensor Kit if I purchase the Ipod touch or just the Nike sensor to insert in the shoe? Thanks in advance to whomever can provide guidance on this issue.

I can speak for a new iPod touch and tell you that you only need the sensor. That's what I have and I love it. I'm really enjoying Nike's website and the history it builds.
From what I understand about the new nano, it has some sort of pedometer built right in so you can get a calculation of steps all by itself. You can also add the nike sensor to get more information on your walk/run, I'm just not certain if its the whole kit you need or just the sensor in that instance.

Linking multiple Nike+ Sensors to 6th Gen Nano

Is there a way to link multiple Nike+ sensors to a 6th Gen Nano? I have the Nike+Sports kit with that sensor. I would like to link the sensor that I use with my touch to the nano also.
Please point me in the directions of the correct instructions.
I've tried to link, but the Nano doesn't see the new sensor.

can you use nike+ sensor with iPhone 5. like the device you place in your shoe. Can it be connected to your phone.

However, you don't need the sensor if you use the Nike+ Running app. It uses the phone's built in accelerometer.

Can't calibrate new nike+ sensor

I just bought a new nike+ sensor and need to calibrate it. At the end of my work out, when I hit "end workout" the "calibrate run" button should show up, instead it freezes and my workout goes right into "history" and I can't calibrate it. Super annoyed!

I was wondering this too. Did you ever get an answer? I just bought a non-nike pair of sneakers and have a pod pouch now on my laces. I have it tight, at the lower part of the laces so its flat. When its on the left side my time is very similar to what it was when I used the nike shoes. When it is on the right side, my time is about 35sec/mile higher. I wonder which is more accurate and if you are supposed to have them on the same side. If so, then that is as accurate as with my nike shoes. Hope we get an answer soon. Im about to return everything its so frustrating.

Using iPod Nano with two Nike+ sensors

I have searched your site but cannot find any information regarding my query. I bought an Nike+ sensor and pick-up unit for our iPod nano 3rdG for my wife to use. We have one iPod, one PC and one iTunes account. This has worked great and now I want to start running. My question is if I buy another sensor and pick-up unit will the iPod store the information separately? Will iTunes be able to upload the date to a different Nike+ account? We would not be able to run together I know that. Whenever I run I'll use my sensor and pick-up unit and whenever my wife runs she will use hers. Will this be possible. Thanks

I have a ITouch and I run iTunes on a Mac.
My iTunes keeps track of two different sensors.
I go to my settings "Nike + iPod" menu and turn on and off, them I press "sensor" and link to whatever sensor I am using.
Now when I got to iTunes "Nike + iPod" it shows "sensor 1" and "sensor 2" it also allows me to edit the name of the sensors.
My question is, I want to delete one of the sensors and I don't know how

My friend and I run always together. I have an iPod touch 4G, he has an iPod Nano 4G and he has the Nike+ sensor. He uses the ipod Nano + receiver. I use just the ipod touch (which has a receiver built-in already).
We run at the same pace and same time. Can we both link to his sensor and get the data each in our ipods?

Read the guide for the Nike sensor. It should tell you if this is possible.

i got an ipod touch for christmas after using an ipod nano with my nike+ sensor. after a month or so, the ipod touch was unable to locate my sensor after i pause during my workout. since the sensor was a little old, i got a new one and it worked for about 2 weeks, then i had the same problem. tried using my ipod nano and it has no trouble locating the sensor. what is wrong with the ipod touch?

the first time, settings>nike+ was grayed out and i couldn't turn off the nike+ button. had to reboot to recover the nike+. yesterday and today, bluetooth and nike+ are active in settings, however, the sensor can't be located.
i'd rather not reset everytime this happens. do you think the bluetooth is defective?
