Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-S

I am looking into purchasing a Nikon 50mm 1.8 AF-S lens for my D5000 camera. I do notice that you carry the AF version but it is not capable of working with the auto setting on the D5000. I was wondering if you will ever carry the AF-S version or if its something that I can special order. It would be wonderful to go through Best Buy in getting that lens. Thank you!

Its backordered pretty much everywhere. Ever since its introduction a couple years go, it can sell out quickly when Nikon makes a batch. And the placces that may still have one, jacked the price up to insane levels (seen $450 already for a $200 lens).
But since the quake and tsunami, they are behind their schedule with no idea when they will get back to normal production schedules. Even though the 35mm is made in Taiwan, my bets the glass elements themselves are made in Japan. Estimates I've heard on various forums is that it may take over a year to get back to 'normal production levels'. Was waiting to see the specs on the forthcoming D4 as a replacement for my D3, but I'm pretty sure its been pushed back.
Just keep checking back online. Its a great little lens.

  • New Nikon 50mm AF-S 1.8

Nikon is releasing this lens tomorrow. Amazon and other retailers were offering pre-sales. I can't find anything about whether Best Buy will be carrying this lens or not.
I had collected gift cards to best buy in order to purchase the nikon 35mm lens. Best Buy has the best price for this lens. When the news of this 50mm lens came out I decided to wait for it instead of getting the 35mm. Now I'm stuck with gift cards I may not be able to use!! Please tell me you all will be carrying this lens tomorrow!!

Bought a first gen Aluminum iMac with the 2.8ghz Extreme processor, and it is about four times faster processing Nikon D2x NEF files. . it screams!

  • Yay! My first independent short movie

If you've got two-minutes to spare, please check out my first attempt at a short movie. The video was shot using a Canon HV30 with a Letus35 adaptor and Nikon 50mm lens. I used MBL for CC and editing was done on Adobe CS4 Photoshop, AE, and Premiere.

Since this is my first, any comments or criticism is appreciated. Thanks!

pros - that was very well done. i for one am a nitpicker on sound and that was nicely done. what did you use for your sound?
cons - lighting. that's my second nitpick :) however it did not detract from the story which is good. i wasn't trying to spot items or visually make any perception. i'm just complaining about the atmosphere. just a cheesy thing called "practicals" you have light, but if it's dark or slightly dark then where is that light coming from? watch more shows and see lights that are on in the background or on desks. it looks like light for no reason, but the thing is it's kinda a mental thing. you "paint" with light. i hope that made sense. i haven't posted here in a long time :)

  • Is there a lens profile for Nikon 24-50mm zoom?

I'm looking for a lens profile for Nikon's AF Nikkor 24-50mm 1:3.3-4.5  The profile doesn't appear to be in Lightroom, does anyone have a suggestion of either how to get 1 included or a workaround.
Yes, it's an old lens, but a beautiful one.
    With thanks.

Yay that's great news ... and thanks for such a speedy reply.
Didn't know about the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader ... so have just downloaded it for Mac and found the lens profile.
Appreciate your help ... it'll hopefully be great for correcting the distorion i need.

  • Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM, Nikon mount lens correction =- not supported?

Lens database states that this lens is supported in Lightroom 5.5.
I'm running version 5.7 and the lens profile does not seem to be available. - hat do I need to do?

Are you trying a JPEG instead of a Raw file when looking?

  • Re lightroom: I dont see the lens profile for my SIGMA 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM, how do I add it?

re lightroom: I dont see the lens profile for my SIGMA 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM, how do I add it?

The profile for that lens is available for both Canon and Nikon. I didn't look at other brands. But the profile is for raw files only. Is the file you are using a raw file?

  • Big difference in RAW converter between Aperture and Nikon Capture NX

    hi
here's a quick photo for comparing (hosted on my site since it's huge):
    http://www.raffaz.net/stuff/nx_aperture.png (4.4mb uncompressed PNG file)
I'm quite disappointed by some aspects of Aperture's RAW handling... or at least, by comparing it to Capture NX.
by looking at the picture, you can instantly see that NX raw photo is much sharper, and it is nearly perfect (apart from the not-perfect photo itself).
by looking at Aperture's shot, you can see that it's blurry, with moirè and noise-like problems..
the screenshots are 100% crops from the latest versions of the applications, using flat settings as you can see (just import, deselect everything the app will do), the camera is a Nikon D70, the lens is a 18-70 f3.5 and the file is a .NEF (nikon raw). settings for the photo are ISO200, f8, 1/15, 50mm on tripod.
I admit I'm very surprised by this difference. I'm using the trial of NX (just wanted to test it since it's brand new) and when I noticed all these differences I was shocked. I'm not saying that NX is better than Aperture, I think that Aperture is still unbeaten in a lot of fields, but could someone please explain me this huge difference in quality?
if needed, I can provide more screenshots with other photos

I dont like Capture NX one bit, its just as slow and sluggish as the previous version. The reason why pics often look better in Capture is becuase Nikon wrote it, after all the NEF format is theres.
To be honest Capture NX cannot be compared to Aperure there not in the same league, and you can pick up Aperture for the Same price as Capture NX on ebay brand new i would alwasy go for aperture far better value for money IMHO.

  • Canon 1100d or 1200 or Nikon d3300

I am vry new to DSLR world and want to buy a new DSLR but its more confusing than i thought.
Right now I am confused between Canon 1100d (T3) and Canon 1200d (T5).
    I can currently buy Canon 1100d with EF-S 18-55mm ISII Lens Kit for Rs 18000 (299 $) &
    Canon 1100d with EF-S 18-55mm ISII + 55-250mm ISII Lens Kit for Rs 23900 (399 $) &
    Canon 1200d with EF-S 18-55mm ISII Lens Kit for Rs 22900 (380 $)
Now should I go for newer camera with smaller lens or old camera with 2 lens. I have checked on many websites that 1200d is not much of an upgrade from 1100d and there's not much diffrence between the two.
Which one should I buy between the 3 options.
One more confusion is that shall a much more expensive Nikon D3300 which is supposed to be much better than Canon's 1200d but its most expensive of the lot i.e. Rs 29400 (490 $).
Which one will be best for me as I am just a beginner to Photography world.
    Please Help.

Right on the top, you know this is a Canon forum. So most of us are not going to reccommend any brand-N.  Not that there is anything wrong with them but we chose Canon.  Nikon has never come out with anything that caused me to want to switch to them.  I have two Nikon F bodies from long, long ago.  My Canon F1n is way better and I never looked back.  Besides Nikon has flakey lenses, to boot.
Most of the time I would advise you get the T5i but if you are comparing it to a T3i with two lenses, I would go for the T3i.
Most of the time the top-of-the-line camera will stay current longer than the lesser ones.

  • Nikon D700 Support

My apologies up front as I am sure this topic has been covered in the forum, but I can not locate. Can Aperture be updated to support new formats (D700 in my case) or must we wait for the new Leopard release? Feel free to provide the link if there is a thread addressing this issue. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I just got the D700. put on the old 50mm f/1.4. first shot using raw+b and Image area FX. Aperture 2.1.1 says it's an unsupported image format (i can see the jpg thumbnail, but can't do anything with the raw file). Second shot forced the camera to shoot DX. Same result, not supported.
If you have a specific way that you shot and made it work with Aperture, please give more details. But for someone who's shot for a long time, you may have remembered that every time a new raw format camera came out, it takes a while before an application such as Aperture is re-released to accept the new camera's raw files natively (or even further back the computer won't even see the camera as a device).
In the mean time, Looks like Nikon Transfer and Photoshop works.

  • I want to remove all of my photos out of iPhoto there are approximately 35000 some imported from an old hard drive and a SD Card from my Nikon D500 how do I do this

I want to remove all of my photos out of iPhoto there are approximately 35000 some imported from an old hard drive and a SD Card from my Nikon D500 how do I do this?
    I have iPhoto version 9.1.5 (615)
    Mac OS X version 10.6.8
I want to do this because when I imported from my old hard drive there was an error message stating that 12 photos were not imported as the programm did not recognise the format even though they were jpegs like the other photos in that particular album. The dates of the photo folders are wrong I have multiple copies of photos and every time I start iPhoto I get the following message 12 photos have been found in the iPhoto library that were not imported would you like to import them No or Yes
if you press Yes the same message comes back again and if you press Yes again the program flicks to last import for 2 seconds and then opens events.
if you press No the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user/judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos then if you press OK the original message 12 photos have been found.............
if you press No at this point the message The photos have been placed in the folder/user /judith/pictures/iphoto Library recovered photos_11 the end number goes up by 1 every time you go through this process
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Did you import an iPhoto Library from the old Hard Drive? Do you still have that old Library?
The way to clear out a Library is to Export the photos - Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
    For the annoying start-up message:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for a Folder called 'Import' or 'Importing'.
Drag it to the Desktop. *Make no other changes*.
    Start iPhoto. Does that help?
If it does then look inside that folder on your desktop. Does it contain anything you want? If not you can trash the folder.

  • Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera'

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

  • How to Install Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera

I need someone to walk me through how to install a Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera.
I haven't used photoshop in ages and I got a new camera. I have been on the phone with Adobe (no help) and spent a couple of hours online trying to figure this out. I'm confused, frustrated and about to throw my computer out the window.
Also, I placed this in the "Photoshop for Beginners" since Photoshop CS5 doesn't appear anymore. I know CS5 is outdated but I spent hundreds of dollars on this program and you would think adobe would still honor its product.
    Any guidance is much appreciated.
    AJ

Odds are cs5 is too old. If you do a search on my the main Adobe website there is a list of compatible cameras for the last known update to camera raw for cs5.
Each version of Photoshop only gets so many updates for camera raw then it is necessary to upgrade Photoshop to get the next update for camera raw.
So you currently have 4 choices.
    1 upgrade Photoshop
2 get Lightroom - latest version
3 get Photoshop elements -latest version
4 get dng converter - this will download the latest version an is the only option that is free.
The dng converter can be found by searching Adobe website.

  • Trouble with Adobe Camera Raw, Nikon D750, Photoshop CC 2014

I have Photoshop CC 2014 running on an HP ZBook 15 with Windows 7 Professional. I recently downloaded Camera Raw 8.7.311. I did not install the DNG converter. I shoot raw in my Nikon D750. I download the NEF images to my HP laptop using a memory card reader. I installed Bridge from Creative Cloud. When I check in Photoshop CC 2014, it says the Camera Raw 8.7.1.311 plug-in is present. But if I try to open a NEF image, it fails and says it is an unsupported file type. When I go into Bridge, the "Open using Camera Raw" option is faded and cannot be selected. So what do I do? TIA, Rob

Success! My problem was I had the old version of the Nikon software on my computer and I had used that to download the photos. I copied the NEF files directly from my memory card reader and then could open them no problem in Photoshop CC 2014. Many thanks to gener7 and all who made suggestions.

  • ADOBE Photoshop CS2 with a Nikon D70

In Photpshop CS (WINDOWS XP SP2), under File --> Import, I've seen screen shots with both "WIA" and "WIA D70" options. How does one install the later and will it directly import both Mass Storage (MS) and Nikon PTP directly from the D70 (or have I mistaken the import function)?

I use the import function in Photoshop for acquiring images from my scanner, but I always use a card reader to transfer images from my compact flash card to the computer rather than obtaining the images directly from the camera.
Since the memory card looks like a disc drive to the computer, you can transfer the files with Windows Explorer or any other file utility. Nikon view also works, but I find the File, Get Images from Camera command in Bridge to be most useful. It allows flexible renaming of the files during import.
