Nikon AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D

Has anyone made a profile for the Nikon AF Nikkor 24mm f/2.8D?
I've just got this lens, and the lateral CA is huge. I can't tell yet how bad the distortion is.
I'm still not sure if there is an official profile request procedure (there seems to be no information on this anywhere I've looked). So, if any kind soul can help, it would be much appreciated! Otherwise, I may try to make one myself, and no doubt turn the air blue in the process.

Well, I had a go myself. And it worked! I won't share it until I'm totally happy with it. I may have another go this week. But it seems to work okay on the limited number of shoots I've done with it, so far.
Totally subjective observations:
It wasn't clear from the instructions how I was going to fill 1/4 to 1/2 of the image with my chart AT DIFFERENT FOCAL DISTANCES. After my first attempt, which used 4 sets of 9 images at one focal distance, I'm guessing that I need different charts for different distances, otherwise how can I get a consistent chart size in the frame?
I was a bit confused about the appending process. It was never mentioned by the LPC app. It appears that appending data to profiles was silent, as I backed up the profile after each aperture set of nine, and it got bigger each time.
The final profile suffered the same small amount of CA error as most of the other profiles I use. I guess they can't be perfect, and there are small errors inherent in the system. I wonder how much of this is due to the lack of a giant target at a very long distance (I was working at about 6ft with an A3 target). A lot of my photos are focused at long distances. It would be nice to be able to add small offsets, either to the profiles, or in the CR lens correction defaults

  • Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 access via Lightroom 5.5

I posted this question on the Lightroom Forum but am not fully satisfied with the responses.  With apologies...
A profile named "NIKON 1 J3 (Nikon 1 NIKKOR VR 70-300mm f4.5-5.6) - RAW.lcp" was added to the lens profile folder when I installed Camera Raw 8.6 RC.  However, this lens does not show up in the profiles for images recorded with the CX 70-300 lens mounted on my Nikon 1 V3.  However, when I open one of the NEF files using CS6 or CC the lens profile is present.
Can someone explain why this is the case?

    ssprengel wrote:
You can test whether LR uses the folder you find the ACR 8.6 RC profiles in by shutting down LR, moving all the .lcp files in that folder to another folder above and outside the folder structure where they are now, and then start up LR and see if it still finds profiles.  If you can still select profiles then it is likely that LR is using profiles that are somewhere else, but if the profiles disappear then LR is in fact sharing the same set of profiles, and I don't know why the PC would separate them and the Mac wouldn't, then.
A further confirming step in the test would be, with the profiles still moved elsewhere, start up ACR and see if it can see the profiles or not, just in case there is some compiled or cached data for the profiles that both are using that isn't reliant on the .lcp files existing.  In other words, if you move the profiles from the one folder where you have found them, to somewhere else, and neither LR nor PS can see any profiles, then they are both using that set.
ssprengel:  I am in your debt for suggesting such an obvious test.  My graduate school profs would be ashamed of me .
I removed all the Nikon profiles from the LensProfiles directory stored under the system Library and found:
    (1)  no Nikon lens profiles were found when using Photoshop except the one profile that I copied into the LensProfiles directory under the user Library.  Therefore Photoshop uses the profiles stored in LensProfiles directory under the system Library.
    (2)  all required lens profiles were found when using Lightroom 5.5:  Lightroom does not use the profiles stored in LensProfiles directory under the system Library directory.
Conclusion (2) was totally unexpected!  Lightroom keeps a "secret cache" of lens profiles somewhere on my system.
Dare I ask someone to tell me why Lightroom uses lens profiles in this manner?

    Hi,
The fact is that Lightroom is separate to Photoshop ACR, the Camera and Lens Profiles are kept in the following directories for Lightroom:
    Windows: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom x.x\Resources\CameraProfiles\Camera ; and,
                   C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom x.x\Resources\LensProfiles\1.0
Macintosh: Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom X.X/Right-click Show Package Contents/Resources/Camera Profiles; and,
Applications/Adobe Photoshop Lightroom X/Right-click Show Package Contents/Resources/Lens Profiles
Believe it or not I was just about to look at the package contents when I noticed I had a message.  You are absolutely correct.  I wonder why Adobe found it necessary to make such a design decision?

There are some lenses that are not that popular, so no profile has been created.  You can create your own profile:

  • I Like LR v4.2. My Reasons:

    1) I render my previews at 1:1 during import. It appears that v4.2 renders at a higher speed. It is noticeable to me.
    2) When in the develop module, the speed in loading an image has improved by about 50%. Initially opening the develop module has not changed speed-wise, but once in there, it is a definite speed improvement.

    Hi.
Adobe Camera Raw 8.2 for CC & CS6 was released two months ago.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/09/camera-raw-8-2-and-dng-converter-8-2-now-a vailable.html

Interesting.  How much is accomplished in the 8bi file without reference to camera-specific profiles?  There are some camera profiles that appear to have been added in acr updates.  for example there is a folder <Canon EOS 70D> in <C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CameraRaw\CameraProfiles\Camera> (win 7) that contains five profiles (Faithful, Landscape, Neutral, Portrait and Standard).  Would acr be able to process 70D raw image files without these profile files?

  • Turn off the Printers color management function for the Pro-100

I've tried everything to get this printer to print realistic colors.  I had the Pro-9000 MK II and it was spot on.  I'm running Mac OS 10.9.1 and downloaded all the current drivers for the Pro-100.  The colors are way off.  I am using Print Studio Pro, Under color management I'm selecting the ICC profile for the paper being used, the printer profile was downloaded from Canon's web site and that's selected the same paper type.  Color matching is grayed out.
My monitor has been calibrated so I know that's not the issue.  Especially since the Pro-9000 was right on the mark.  Any suggestions???
    Thanks in advance.

I use the same setup as you and I print with, Print Studio Pro and LR4. My monitor is not calibrated. I only use Canon ink and Canon paper and the corresponding ICC profiles. My color output is exceptional. Black & white is good but not exceptional.
When I purchased this printer (a couple of months ago) I just followed the installation instructions and it worked great (for color prints) right out of the box. You may want to try a reinstall to see if that solves the issue. The Pro-100 is a very good printer.

  • What about missing lenses in lens correction tool ?

    When/where other profiles ?
I need a profile for the Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm 1:1.4D, one of the best lens ever ! can't miss in LR.
I know there is a tool to make profiles but it looks to complicated to me so I was wondering if someone did that profile already...
    Thanks

    oh!
    thanks for your feedback!
then I may have been hard on adobe but wrong!? sorry if this is the case... though I still have a problem...
i double checked and can't find the profile you say exists.
i use LR3 in French (downloaded 2 weeks ago, I had the beta 2 installed before, it's installed on a pc with vista 32 bits). My translation may be imperfect: here is what happens when i edit a photo made with canon EOS 5D MarkII & EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM:
    - i activate the profile correction.
the configuration is "default" (but the result is the same with "auto")
    - the system automatically used to propose me (before I made any changes)
         brand: canon,
         model: canon EF 135mm F2 L USM,
profile: adobe (canon EF 135mm F2 L USM)
    - I have searched for my configuration and found
         brand: canon,
         model: canon EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM,
but then, the only profile available is: canon EOS 1Ds MarkIII - EF 24-70mm F2.8 L USM.
    non 5D Mk2 available.
    - now the above configuration seems to have become the default, even though i have never saved a new default
I have searched extensively on the adobe website and have not found neither a list of profiles available, not the possibility to download and install more!
    (i think this should be)
so does anyone know where my problem is ? and how i can solve it as apparently the profile should be available?
    thanks in advance!

  • Mega pixel or zoom

I looking to get a new camera and was wondering which is more important to look for:
more mega pixels or more Wide-Angle Optical Zoom.
(don't get me wrong I would look for something that has more mega pixels than a phone does)
I've seen some cameras that have 12mega pixels and 50 zoom.  Canon.
then some that have 16mega pixels and only 6-10 zoom. Canon and Nikon.
Any suggestions I which one I should value more?

    Good question....
    Some thoughts....
Yes with the Nikon D800.  Macro lenses and zoom lenses are nearly redundant as you can basically crop in and still have excellent resolution.  Have a look at this image where a photographer found his reflection in the bird's eye...
      http://petapixel.com/assets/uploads/2012/03/example_mini.jpg
with a DSLR you have the best of both worlds.  Match the resolution and DSLR sensor size to an appropriate zoom lens you need.  Do you want more zoom or a lens that smaller.
want something better with low light, consider a prime or a f/2.8 zoom lens
Zoom is great, but too much zoom creations pincushion and barrel distortion
how wide do you want?  Most kit lenses are limited to 18mm.  However, I recently discovered Nikon's 10-24mm.  It's Rectilinear to help straighten out curves.  Great for indoor pictures.
Back to your original question.  I crave for both....
I want megapixels for sharpness.  However some cameras (especially camera phones) need a flash to capture a sharp images.
I am tired of fixed lenses (primes).  My fav lens is the Nikon 18-300mm.  This lens does both wide angle and telephone.  Takes up less space than two lenses in my camera bag.

  • Service Manual ipf6400 - where to find?

    Hi
I own a new ipf 6400 printer, but cannot find the "service manual" which differs from the user manual.
Can someone point me or offer to email the pdf service manual to me for the 6400 ipf, or the ipf 6450
which has the spectro, or even the 8400 ipf would help.
I have no error but simply want the service manual saved,
    thank you
    Debra

  • Grayscale printing, when to use?

I have a Pixma Pro-100. Under what circumstances would I print in “grayscale”?

    Solved!

I understand what you are saying but I think that I am asking a somewhat different question.
I thought that “Grayscale” printing involved blending the color ink to arrive at different shades of grays. The Pro-100 has three monochrome inks, which should print in various shades of gray. Under these conditions, when (if ever) should grayscale printing be used? When I check the ”Print Black & White photo” box is that the same as printing in “grayscale”?
