Nikon AVI file in Premiere Elements 10

I'm looking for an easy to use video editor and downloaded Elements. Now I can't upload AVI files from my Nikon D90. I've seen other posts on this and they say to install the Motion codec here: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/motion_jpeg_codec.htm did that... it still won't import the video file.
Please help. Is there something else I have to do or will it magically start working when I reboot?

Hello, superfly145. Premiere Elements has its own forum, which is here:

and you'll get better answers to video questions if you ask there. Good luck!

  • How do I batch convert separate avi files in Premiere Elements 11 to separate mp4 files

How do I batch convert separate avi files to separate mp4 files

For batch conversions, I use DigitalMedia Converter by Deskshare. My version is an older one (2.7), and there is a newer version, in two flavors, "regular" and "pro." I do not recall what limit on number of files is, but have had about 10 in the conversion queue. The newer version, and especially the Pro version, has probably expanded the number of files in the queue, but I could not quickly find what that max number is. While not opensource freeware, my copy was only about US$40. I was so impressed, that I bought two licenses - one for each of my editing computers. I have been meaning to upgrade to the new Pro version, but as old 2.7 works for what I need to do, just have not gotten around to it.
Now, Premiere Pro can do batch conversions too, through the AME (Adobe Media Encoder), but that would be a much, much more expensive solution.
I am certain that there are other conversion programs (some might also be free), that can do batch conversions, and with the H.264 CODEC for your MP4 output.
One caveat: if your AVI files are SD (Standard Def), you will NOT be pleased if you convert to MP4 in HD (High Def), as there will be up-rezzing, and the results will not be pretty. If you need to up-rez to HD, when using SD material, you might want to look into something like Red Giant's Magic Bullet Instant HD. Many users have been impressed by its up-rezzing capabilities, though some have not.
Also, I think that Corel's video editor has an up-rezzing capability, but have never used it, so cannot comment directly - might be great, or not so great.
    Good luck,

  • Only partial audio from 25+GB .avi file in Premiere Elements 11 Expert View

I have a new Toshiba laptop with i7 processor, 8GB memory, and Win 8.1
I have 25+GB .avi files containing 2-3 of my kids baseball games.  I want to create DVDs of say 2 games per with start & stop main menu markers.
I bring the .avi file into Expert View.  Problem is not all the audio is there.  Starts out with no audio showing then some appears.  Several games are
each 8mm tape which I copy to HD as 1 .avi .  I guess I can copy one game at a time from 8mm creating individual .avi game files. Not sure how large
they are and if all audio appears.  I'm currently doing that.
    Appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks...

Did you clean out the Meda Cache, before you discovered the loss of Audio?
To play Audio on the Timeline, and to display the Waveform, you need the CFA and PEK files. This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3892177#3892177
One of the most common causes of not having Audio, or truncated Audio, is that the Conforming process did not complete 100%.

  • How do i get flv files in premiere elements

how can i get the premiere elements to use flv. files?

    verdanexi
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system it is running?
In the absence of that information, the following is a generalized no can do answer.
Although files with flv file extensions can be exported from Premiere Elements, you cannot import flv files into Premiere Elements.
There used to be a time when earlier versions could use a Moyea plug-in to force Premiere Elements to accept flv files.
    how to edit .flv files
Your flv are going to have to be converted into another format before import into Premiere Elements if you want to use Premiere Elements as your video editor.

The link is provided for informational rather than promotional reason. I have not used it, but I have seen reports that it is free and works well for flv to avi.

There was a report of a Premiere Elements Debut issue that led to the user using a different screen capture program.
In the following the user does not say which one.
    Can't import .avi files?
If Debut is offering AVCHD or H.264.avi, then that is likely the flaw since Premiere Elements does not support the combination
of AVCHD or H.264 video compression with an .avi file extension.

Let us see if we can find out from your Debut .avi source what video compression Debut is using. Have you tried alternative Debut formats

We will be watching for your progress. Movie Maker may be the way to go if you decide to stay with Debut, with or without using Movie Maker "as a converter"

  • Unable to play Cineform avi files in Premiere Pro CS3

I am using Cineform NeoHD version 5.3.2 to convert the MXF files from my Canon XF300 into Cineform AVI.
Then I import these AVI files into Premiere Pro CS3 and here is where the problem begins.
Premiere is unable to play these Cineform files. All I get is about a second of audio, and a still frame of the video. This happens both in the source window, and also on the timeline.
The Cineform AVI files play perfectly fine when using Virtualdub for playback, but Windows media player behave just like Premiere.
Everything worked fine a week ago. Premiere appeared to use something called "ffdshow" to play the Cineform files, and I could edit without any trouble.
A few days ago, when I tried the same, that's when the problems came. Whenever I hit Play button in Premiere, a popup window came up, saying Premiere wanted to use ffdshow, and the options was "never", "no once", "yes once", "yes always".
When everything worked a week ago, I had to use the "yes always" option.
Now, it does not matter which option I use, Premiere will not play the Cineform files.
I did not make any changes to my computer between the day everything was okay, and when the problem appeared.
A Cineform representative suggested "ffdshow" is the troublemaker, so I uninstalled ffdshow and removed any traces of it I could find, but the same problem still exist.
    Then I uninstalled Cineform NeoHD
Uninstalled and reinstalled Production Premium CS3 suite
    Reinstalled Cineform NeoHD
Still same problem, nothing has changed.
It does not matter if I use 50i or 25p source files.
    My system: (Laptop)
    Windows Vista ultimate 64-bit
    Intel 2,66GHz quad core CPU
    4GB ram
    Nvidia Geforce 8800M GTX
3x internal 7200rpm harddrives set up with raid-0
    Anyone else experiencing this?
Any ideas what might be wrong?

dont know , but this stuff might fix your prob.. overwrite whatever ffdshow screwed up...
    cfrepair utility:

    cineform codec (neo player)

never used the cfrepair thing..but did install neoplayer which gave me the codec to use cs3 with cf raw files ( sample of cf raw at the si 2k site -- avi ext )
ps.... to keep overhead down on my computer I took the resulting cineform "player" out of my startup directory....as it wants to run in background when you install it...no need for that for my purpose of just getting the codec

  • How can i open a .prel file in premiere elements 11?

    Hello Community
Yesterday i created a clip with premiere elements 11 and i saved it as .prel file.
Today i wanted to open this file to go on working on my clip but i couldn't open the .prel file.
When i try to open this file, my premiere elements 11 says that it doesn't support this kind of file or it's in a wrong codec.
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
    Can anyone help me out?

    nikank
Maybe it is because I relocated the different clips i used for my video after i saved my project
A very likely possibility that should be explored first. Please move the clips to exactly where they were when you
imported them into the project. When you import your source media into a project, all you get in the project are copies of the
originals. And, those copies need to trace back to the originals at the hard drive save location where
they were when first imported into the project.
Under the condition that you describe, even if the project did open, you should be greeted by several "Where is the file_____?" messages
that you would have to deal for the reconnects.
Other complications may be involved but let us start with the obvious one.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thank you.

  • How to import pdf files in Premiere Elements 8

    Hello,
I'd like to know if there's a way to import pdf files in premiere elements 8, becouse if I try to import it in "project" it gives me an error saying "this type of file is not supported".
    Thank you
    Sebastian

Unfortunalty it's not working for me yet. If I try to import the PDF (single page)  into the project, the progress bar reach 100% but then says: "the file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed". I have Acrobat Reader 9.3 installed too.
I've uploaded one of the PDF's that I want to use if you want to test it yourself:
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YB7NT4QR
One of my coworkers says that I may need Adobe Bridge to do so, is that correct? Otherwise a simple "pdf to jpg" (or other image formats) could solve the problem.
    Thanks for your support.

  • MP4 files in Premiere Element 7 not playing

I have recently bought a Sanyo Xacti Cmaera for my wife and have tried to edit the files in Premiere elements 7.  When I try to open the files I am told they are not supported and that a codec may be missing.  I can open them and play them in Nero and Quicktime player but not in Premiere or in Windows player.  I am running Windows XP home edition SP3 with 4GB Ram.  I have read some of the ideas to try to rectify but no luck.. Any suggestions?

Depending on which exact model you have, it appears that the camera produces AVCHD H.264 files.
First thing that I would do would be to check that you have the latest Apple QuickTime Player.
Next, make sure that your Project Preset is AVCHD. I do not find that this camera shoots in DD 5.1 SS Audio, but if it does, then make sure that you choose THAT part of the Preset too.
Now, it could be that Nero has some of its own CODEC's, like VLC Player. If you do not have the H.264 CODEC, and you should with the latest version of QuickTime, there are two other suppliers of this CODEC, that offer a really good one: Lead and MainConcept. When the Apple H.264 has not done a good job, many folk go with the MainConcept H.264. Some others have had better luck with the Lead version.
Now, how are you getting these files into PrE. For these, you will probably be copying the files over to your computer's HDD, and then using Get Media from that location.
Good luck, and maybe someone knows this camera (please state the exact model), and can offer more than I can, based on the info that I got from the Sanyo site.

  • How do add .mov files in Premiere Elements 11 with Windows 8? I get a generic error message.

How do add .mov files in Premiere Elements 11 with Windows 8? I get a generic error message.

    Hi Steve,
Thanks for your quick response. The original movies were taken on a Canon ES970 (1990's). I don't know the resolution but things were not as high tech back then.,.. I used a Roxio software to convert them on my MacBook Air. I didn't realize that I could use Adobe Premiere Elements to do that or I would have. However my old camera did not have a cable to attach it to a computer and the Roxio software came with it.
I then saved the recordings on an external hard drive. I did not make movies from them using iMovie or edit them in any way. They are simply .MOV files and they can be played on my Mac. Upon realizing how much memory it takes to work on videos, I decided it might be easier to burn DVD's on my husband's  new Dell desktop that came with Windows 8. I downloaded Quicktime as suggested and still the movies can't be added to Premiere.

  • Importing project files into Premiere Elements 7

I have created a new project, imported several video clips and then created a video. It was only at the point of creating the video that I reliased that I had not created the project with the correct settings.
Although the video looked fine in the editing window, the final video had black bars at the sides, and above above and below the video, and fairly think black bars. I've tried exporting as different formats, and changing the aspect ratio, but this has not helped. I've attached a jpeg of what the video looks like in Quicktime.
Other video editing software I have used, has the ability to change the project settings after it has been created, and give a warning to the user about possible problems they may encounter by doing so.
This does not appear to be the case with Adobe Premiere Elements 7, and it is extremely frustrating!!
One thing which appears to be possible with Premiere Pro, and was also available on other editing software I have used, is the ability to import projects.
So... does anyone know if it is possible to import a Premiere Elements 7 project file into Premiere Elements 7? The aim here is to create a project with the correct settings, and then import the existing project file into the timeline.
I've tried hacking the project file, which has improved the video slightly, but still not what I was expecting.
    Cheers
    Paul

This problem should have been picked up by Adobe's test analyst during testing of the product.
I am sorry, but I am not following you on this. There are Presets to match many media types. I am not at all sure how Adobe could anticipate that a user would choose the wrong one.
As I said, PrPro CS4 will both allow you to Import your .PREL (with the caveats mentioned), and work on the Project with Sequence settings to match. Unfortunately, PrE is a much less sophisticated and expensive program, than is PrPro CS4.
I'd be happy to Import your file, in PrPro with the proper Presets, but the rub would be that PrE cannot Open .PRPROJ files, so you still could not edit it.
Sorry, but the first rule of any NLE is to establish Presets that match one's Assets. PrPro CS4 (not before that version) allows one to cover their mistakes a bit, but there is still some work getting the improperly set Sequence's material into a new, properly set Sequence.
If you have access to PrPro CS4, and can finish your Project there, that would be the best. Next would be to create a New Project with the proper Presets and chalk up the lost time as a learning experience.
Sorry ot bear the bad news.
    Good luck,

  • Is microsoft avi the highest quality format to export an avi file in premiere pro cs4?

    Hello,
I exported an avi file in premiere pro cs4 in media encoder using Microsoft avi format but the quality turned out poor on dvd, what's the highest quality format I can use?
    Please help
    Thanks
    Elio

    Elio,
As has been stated, DV-AVI is not the format FOR a DVD-Video. However, it can be used (and often is) as a transport medium into a DVD authoring program, like Encore.
Can you please outline your workflow from PrPro to the final DVD, and is it a DVD-Video (will contain MPEG-2 material in VOB "containers"), or a DVD-Data, that is then played on a computer with something like Windows Media Player, VLC, MediaPlayer Classic HC, etc.?
Good luck, and please let us know exactly what you are doing, and the programs used.

  • Can't add a .ts file to Premiere Elements 12

    Hi all,
it's me again. I tried to add a .ts file to Premiere Elements 12, but the program crashes every time. My system is a Macbook Pro OS X 10.9, 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM.
This is what Mediainfo says about the file:
I thought it's because of the file size. The original file is 8 GB (I recorded it with a sat-receiver). So I used the cutter to make it smaller but Premiere still crashes.
I tried another thing and used a video converter program, exported the same file also as a .ts file, and this one I can add to Prmiere without any problems. I just don't want to do this with every file because it takes the whole night to convert one single file :O
Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
    Jessie

    ATR,
thanks for answering. You're right, the .ts format is not listed as import format, but I read about it in a few forums as I searched for a program according to my requirements and that is not too expensive.
However, last night I tried a lot and I read a lot about the codecs because I assumed my problem has to do something with the audio layers. I created two test files, and I was able to import one file, but not the other. The audio layer was the only difference between these two files. So I installed the missing AC3- and A52-codec and it worked so far. Though I have to say that I don't really know if that was the issue as I found out it takes quite a time for Premiere to import these large .ts files. I always thought the program crashed, you know, a spinning mouse pointer, no reactions at all, the small window with the import progress stayed at 0 % the whole time, and when I right-clicked on the icon in the dock it said "Program is not responding".
I also found out that I can transcode the .ts files with VLC player (much faster than the other program I used before) and reduce the audio bitrate, and Premiere works much faster with the new transcoded file.
So I think I can live with this workaround
    Thanks again,
    Jessie

One thing to point out, if you are doing this with the trial. While it is 100% (nothing crippled, or omitted), the trial WILL put a watermark on the finished Project. If you are doing this for work, be aware of that watermark. This http://forums.adobe.com/thread/433730?tstart=0 will give you some tips and background.
Good luck, and I do not want you to be surprised and mad, when you get that watermark.
