Nikon Coolpix P310 compatible with Aperture 3

I would like to purchase the Coolpix P310 but I read on line that its raw format is not compatible with Aperture 3.
Is that the very latest news on this or has this camera been added to those which are now compatible ?
If not, is there a way -- that is not too cumbersome or difficult -- to make the raw files from this camera compatible with Aperture 3.
Is there a download-fix from Aperture that would help with this ?
Looking forward to hearing from anyone who can assist. Many thanks ..

Here is the latest list of supported cameras OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats it does appear that the p310 is on the list. How long has the camera been released? Nixon's (and Canon's) usually get included fairly quickly so it might be include in the next one or two updates.
In the meantime there are a couple of things you could do.
If the camera has a RAW+JPG mode you could shoot in that and import both into Aperture with the JPG as master. Once the RAW format are supported you could switch over to using the RAW's as master.
You could shoot in the RAW &JPG mode and just import the JPG's and keep the RAW's in a folder on your HD. When the RAW's are supported you could import them then.
You could shoot just RAW and use Adobe's DNG converter to convert the RAW;s into DNG's and import those.
Which to use depends on a number of factors, hard to say which is best.

No, that's completely incorrect. Most modern GPS chipsets will lock onto 3-4 GPS signals within seconds unless you've taken it somewhere far from the last time it was powered up and it has to search from scratch because it has to build a new almanac and ephemeris.
You're also confused about which technology you're talking about. aGPS or Assisted GPS has nothing to do with triangulation. It can only help improve time-to-fix if the phone has an active data connection so that it can download data that will help the GPS get a fix faster. No internet, no faster TTF.
Cell tower triangulation is so inaccurate that lawyers know that if presented as evidence it can easily be challenged and thrown out in court cases.

The best thing to do is download the trial of Lightroom and see if it works for you. The trial is the complete program. The only thing different about the trial is that it expires after thirty days. Your images stay in the folders you already have so there's little risk. Good luck!

I have been looking for a tablet that would be compatible with aperture 3. I talked with someone that was familiar with macs and they didn't think there was one at all. I really don't want to use photoshop... I'm happy with aperture. Thanks guys!!

This is mildly misleading. Aperture takes full advantage of all but two of the Intuos4's additional functions.
As I point out below, for these reasons I don't agree with Tim's recommendation.
The Intuos4 is, compared to the Bamboo Pen & Touch (all based on specs at Wacom's site):
2x more accurate
0.5x more responsive
2x more sensitive to pressure, and
2x higher in resolution
All of those are taken advantage of by Aperture. Additionally, the Intuos4 comes with the TouchRing and six ExpressKeys, all of which can be easily programmed to execute Aperture commands. (The Bamboo has 4 ExpressKeys and no TouchRing.) Also, the Intuos4 includes the fully programmable Radial Menu, which can be a workflow accelerator for Aperture. (This may be available on the Bamboo -- I just don't know.)
My recommendation is that, if your are regularly going to use a tablet for making Adjustments and using Aperture, get the Intuos4 Medium. It that is outside your budget, get the Intuos4 Small. If you are only going to occasionally use the tablet with Aperture (or only occasionally use Aperture), the Bamboo Pen & Touch may suffice.
Note, as well, that Wacom's software bundles often completely change the value of some of their products.

Nikon D7100 Not Compatible with Adobe CS6

I recently purchased a new Nikon D7100 DSLR camera and was quite surprised to find out that it is not compatible with my Adobe CS5 Standard Edition Suite software.
From the little bit of info I found online, it appears that non-upgradable changes to the Camera Raw component between versions CS5 and CS6 have made my software incompatible with my new camera. This means that with my CS5 Standard Suite I cannot open RAW image files in Bridge or Photoshop.
The only two options I have found so far are:
[1] Upgrade my software to CS6 or CC: For me this is cost prohibitive.
[2] Use Adobe's RAW to DNG converter and then open the image files as DNGs in Bridge and Photoshop: It appears that the DBG converter is reducing the file size and this I assume (rightly to wrongly) that it might also be reducing the image quality. To facilitate maximum options in image post production, I want to maintain the extreme detail that RAW provides. I am not sure if DNG will retail the exact same level of detail and quality. Can anyone shed additional light on this?
[3] Are there any other option that I have missed that would allow me to upgrade the Camera Raw component of CS5 so that it is compatible with newer DSLRs like the Nikon D7100?

You have not missed any options for CS5 opening the raw data, directly. The D7100 requires at least CS6/ACR 7.4 or DNGC 7.4 that will make DNGs that will open in older ACR versions.
DNGs may different in size from the NEFs due to differences in lossless compression or a different-sized embedded preview image or even missing Nikon-only metadata in the DNG. In other words, the photosite values for the sensor data should be preserved but the packaging of, or the other data around, the sensor data may be different.
The cheapest option to make PS work with the native raw files is likely PS-CC for $10/month as part of the Photography Plan.
Another option is to purchase (serial number version) or rent (CC Photography Plan version) Lightroom and use it to do what you’d normally do in Bridge and ACR, and then use Edit In Photoshop w/in LR to do finishing touches in your older PS. This option renders a TIF or PSD to disk with all your raw-file adjustments and then passes this file to PS for further editing. The one caveat with buying the serial-number LR is that a new version of LR is probably about ready to come out and waiting until that new version is available would save money.
One thing to consider is that the PS-CS6/ACR 7.x has a new toning model which is an improvement for most images and you don’t have access to that if you’re not using at least CS6.
The reason Adobe doesn’t add new camera support to CS5 (and CS4 and CS3 and CS2 and CS and 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1) forever is because they want to be paid for their work, and if every camera update was free forever people would only buy PS, once, and would keep using that without paying anything more until maybe the OS on their computer wasn’t compatible, anymore. This is one reason Adobe went with CC, so people would pay a little continuously and this constant cashflow would better match Adobe paying their employees continuously, instead of having to budget for the future based on how many new customers might buy an upgrade every 1.5 years or so.

I just bought a Olympus WS-400S Digital Voice Recorder, to record audio for my audio slideshows that I will be using Aperture 3 to make, I cant seem to import these files into iTunes either.
Is Aperture 3 compatible with WMA audio files?

Is Viveza compatible with Aperture 3?

I have recently moved my digital world to a slightly bigger and faster iMac and have been experiencing some problems with Viveza. I had previously been using Viveza (v2.0.0.4), with Leopard OSX 10.5.8 and Aperture 2.1.4 with some good results. However, since upgrading to Aperture 3.1.3 and Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8 I have been having problems. Has any body else found this? Mine seem to be, that after placing say six or so control points, the program just freezes and becomes totally unresponsive and the only way out is to force quit. I'm trying to nail this one, not sure if it is an Aperture problem, an OSX compatibility thing with Viveza?

Help! Does the Nikon Coolpix S5 work with iPhoto?

iPhoto can't find my Nikon Coolpix s3 camera. It will not mount on my desktop. What do I do? I have used this camera for a few years and now it will not work any more. Is it the new OSX 10.5.3?

Canon G-15 files compatible with Aperture 3.4.3 ?

I would like to get the Canon G-15 digital camera but I am concerned that the Raw and Jpg files will not be able to be read and processed by my
Aperture 3.4.3 photo program.
My Mac Air Book (11 inhces) is OSX - 10.7.5.
Do I have to upgrade my Aperture program in order for this G-15's photo files to work ? Or do I have to give up this idea about getting this new
camera (to replace my Canon 50D DSLR ?).
I hope to hear from someone soon. I am in Bangkok now and I want to buy this camera but I don't want any nasty surprises.
I looked on the Compatible List (with Canon) and I found only the G-12 and not this newer model.

If yur camera is listed here OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats it is supported.
The list for Mountain Lion appears to be the same. It is possible that the camera will be supported in a future update but there is no way to know for certain.

No Nikon D3100 raw support with Aperture 2

I have Aperture 2, and have recently bought a Nikon D3100. All updates have been made, and I am able to see the raw files with Preview. But they are still not recognized by the Aperture 2 application.
Is it a bug? What gives?

With all due respect this has nothing to do with "gaming". LR2 users can't update to ACR6 either, same situation.
I feel frustrated. Now I'll have to start using other application, since I will not continue to invest on an application that does not update raw support and tries to game me into upgrading.
So you're willing to buy a whole new application instead of paying for the $99 upgrade? And this application will offer you lifetime support for any new camera bodies, no upgrades required, ever? Hmm...
It's the reality of software: at some point, you need to upgrade. Like it or not.
The advantages of AP3 over AP2 for any serious photographer are well worth the minimal upgrade cost. The RAW updates last for the life cycle of the product they're aimed at. When a new version comes out support usually follows. This isn't necessarily fun but pretty standard all around.

Are USB-based Nikon film scanners compatible with Yosemite?

Do USB-based Nikon film scanners (such as Super CoolScan 5000 ED) work with Yosemite, either through native printer/scanner support or through added software?

VueScan supports your scanner: Nikon CoolScan 5000 ED Driver. I was unable to find any other info on that scanner and Yosemite.
Question: do you already have that scanner or planning on purchasing it or one like it?
The reason I'm asking that is I purchased a file scanner quite a while ago to scan 5000 slides. When the job was done I ended up with a rather expensive (at the time) door stop as I didn't have any other slideshow nor took slides.
Depending on your needs there are flab bed scanners that also do film strips and slideshow that will provide excellent results. Some of them have software that will automatically separate multiple slides or images on a file strip into separate files at the completion of the scan. If you go that route you'll still have a usable scanner.
Just some food for thought.

Nik Software Plug-Ins are not compatible with Aperture 3

After installing my upgrade to Aperture 3, I get a message when attempting to use one of my Nik Software editing plug-ins. The message says that the plug-ins are not 64-bit (they are 34-bit) and in order to run them, Aperture must close and reopen in 34-bit mode. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

In order to open Aperture in 32-bit mode by default you can right-click on the application icon, select "Get Info" and check the box marked "Open In 32-bit Mode" (or you can continue to run it by default in 64-bit mode and just get forced to re-open the app anytime you need to use plug-ins that can only run in 32-bit mode).

my daughters brandnew Sony WX1 Videofiles seem not to be accepted by Aperture.
Anyone an idea, what to do, may be there is a workaround ? Will iphoto work ?
The file format of Sony WX1 for HD Video is MPEG-4 Visual.

RAW files from Nikon Coolpix 5400 - are they unsupported by Aperture?

I have recently updated the firmware on my Nikon Coolpix 5400 to version 1.4 in order to get RAW capability. Unfortunately the NEF/RAW files I create are not compatible with Aperture and I get an "Unsupported Image Format" message that may be similar to the one that other users have highlighted in relation to the OSX 10.4.9 update.
I am able to use all images previously imported and also Fine (JPG) images generated by the 5400 as well as RAW images generated by a D70 and a D200.

How do I backorder Photobooks made with aperture

I've ordered two books a year ago and I want more items of the same books.
I found my order# etc.. but nobody seems to know how I can backorder my books.

Aperture does not support calendars or cards.
But if you have upgraded iPhoto to a version 9.4.x, compatible with Aperture 3.4.1, you can open your Aperture library in iPhoto and create the calendar there.
