Nikon D200 two files NEF and JPEG

Hello,
I'am a newbee with aperture.
I shoot my pictures in NEF and JPEG for a reason.
My thing yet is:
How can I easily split the two extensions when I import them and rename than in a row.
eg when I shoot a hunderd pictures underwater in NEF and JPEG, I have 200 pictures two rename.
I know I can click each NEF picture and than in batch rename ( same with JPEG), but is there a way to put all the NEF together and rename the same with JPEG?

Welcome to the family.

You can search the forum for similar terms, the topic of shooting raw+jpg comes up about once a week.
Many new users expect Aperture to conform to or to support their old ways of doing things. They often try to force Aperture to work the way they want it to. In a nutshell, Aperture seems to be designed specifically to eliminate this practice. of shooting raw+jpg. Once you understand and learn to live with Aperture's paradigm, you will realize you no longer need to shoot or to keep the jpegs.
If your old habits truly require the duplicate jpgs, I doubt you will be happy using Aperture for your raw images.
However, I also hope you get different advice, something that will help you directly. Patience, other users will contribute their opinions over the next few days.

  • Import from HD folder with NEF and JPEG files-Can't see JPEG files

    I am using Aperture 2 and I am trying to import from an external HD folder of images, with both NEF and JPEG files of the same photo. Using the import function, the import pane only shows the NEF file, not the JPEG file. Is there a setting somewhere that will allow me to see the JPEG file also, so I can import only the JPEG. (note: if I move the JPEG to a different folder away from the NEF file, then the JPEG appears and I can import it.)
    PS I am importing only the JPEG because I have a Nikon D60, which is still un-supported.

    You could import both, select all images afterwards, select 'Create version from master jpeg'(alt-J), unstack all (shift-cmd-K while everything is still selected), sort by file size to separate the raws from the jpegs, and delete the raws.
    Or run the raws through Adobe's DNG converter (which in its newest version, 4.4, supports the D60) and use the DNG baseline support until Apple (or rather Aperture) supports the D60.

  • Aperture and Nikon D200 raw files

    Can anyone tell me if they know when apple will release an update for Aperture to support Nikon D200 raw files.

    Let Apple know by sending a polite note to

  • After editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated

    With both my Mac's, reset Photoshop C  (2014) to previous version 2014.0. Now find that after editing file in ACR 8.6 (Mac) , the file (NEF and XMP) modification dates are not updated. Reloaded camera raw, etc., but still find modification dates are not updated, either using Finder or using Bridge to view dates. Editing other files, PSD, DNG, TIFF, etc., are updated and the information is correctly displayed.

    Ok, not entirely sure what I did but it's now working (Bizarre!). The only thing I did was 'eject' the ACR 8.6 .dmg file from the finder side bar and restart PS CC, so that may have been where I was going wrong all along!
    However, I now have another issue in that there is no preview of the shot in Finder on my iMac when I highlight the NEF file. I assume this is simply because Apple haven't yet released an update for the new D810 NEF files and so the computer doesn't know what it's looking at?!?
    If anyone has any other ideas though, then I'm more than willing to listen.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I import NEF and JPEG in Aperture at the same time from my D200

    I have my D200 and shoot in RAW and JPEG.
    why is it when I import in the library that I only see the NEF files and not the JPEG.
    I want to import both the extensions, because I shoot all my pictures in RAW and JPEG and I only want to store the 4 and 5 stars rated pictures in NEF and lower rating I want to store just as JPEG.

  • Combined raw (nef) and jpegs

    By way of introduction, as I am new here, I am a professional photographer in Southampton, England. I shoot just about most things but especially music and other stock, combined with weddings.
    I have shot a job using combined raw and jpegs on one card and now want to separate the raw nef from the jpeg version. Is there any way to do this in my Aperture library?
    Thanks!
    Gerry

    Gerry,
    One way this works when you have captured from the card or camera, is that the JPEG is not really seen as a separate thumbnail, but is available when you right click or control-click on an image and choose New Version from JPEG Master. Once any are visible, they can be sorted on file size.
    One process is nicely described at:

  • LR Imported NEF and JPEG Together Despite "Treat JPEGS ..." being checked

    During a two day workshop with Jerry Courvoisier recently, we were learning to import photos to LF that were previously on our computers. I shoot ONLY in RAW, but save work done in Bridge/ACR and Elements as JPEGs. I want to use Lightroom for inventory control and thus want to import all of my 2010 original RAW and also the JPEG work done on those RAW files into LR. When I did this for the class, I followed Jerry's instruction to check off the "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos" in the General Preferences Import Options but when we looked in the catalog, the photos arrived as one with a name of DSC_0545.NEF+JPEG. Jerry was stumped and suggested I write you to all for help. Please, I want to centralize all of my photos (originals and worked on JPEG versions of them) but need them to be separate. How can this be done?

    Still not enough information to really give you much help.  So I will ask some questions.
    Have these images already been imported into Lightroom?  If they have then you will need to delete them from Lightroom, i.e. remove them from the catalog.
    Are the JPEG images named the same except for the extension?  If they are not then it will be difficult to keep them together with the raw files.
    Are the JPEG images in the same folder with the raw images?  That is where they should be if you want them to be together in Lightroom.
    It really doesn't matter whether the JPEG has been edited or not.  If the files are not in Lightroom then all you have to do is import them using the "add" option.  The same is true of the raw images.  Adding them to the catalog does not move them, it simply adds them to the catalog so that you can see them in Lightroom and make adjustments.  If the raw images and the JPEG images have the same name except for the extension, if you sort by filename in Lightroom I think they should be displayed together.
    Just one other thought about your JPEG images.  If you have edited them in Elements, whatever changes have been made are going to be part of your original JPEG image in Lightroom.  There is no way that you will be able to undo those changes.  JPEG editing in Elements, or Photoshop for that matter, become permanent changes to the pixel data.  And once those changes have been saved they are part of the image permanently.

  • Nikon D200 Raw files not supported?

    Hi,
    Recently purchased the D200 and discovered that the
    Raw files are not supported. Just wondering if it is
    Aperture or the 10.4.4 that is causing the problems.
    Anyone else facing the same problems?
    Thanks
    In very simple terms...
    In order to add support for various camera RAW files, Apple has to ask the camera manufactures to supply proprietary information about how to process and read the RAW files. Each and every single camera has a different "proprietary process" it must use to handle the RAW file that the camera produces.
    So that means that Apple is at the mercy of the manufacturers in order to get that information. Now most manufactures would prefer that you purchase or use their own software to work on the RAW files that their camera produces... it's an extra revenue stream for them. Because of this, it's not hard to imagine that they are a bit reluctant to divulge what is proprietary information that they spent time and money on creating. It's well documented that Nikon in particular is very reluctant about releasing such information.
    If Adobe has support for a particular camera that Apple does not, then that means that Adobe has already gone through the trouble of asking the manufacture for the information that is needed, reached an agreement and signed the appropriate licensing contracts, exchanged whatever compensation was agreed upon, and then went to work making the software for ACR so it can read that particular cameras RAW files. As you can imagine, it's a process that takes some time to hammer out... more than likely because it involves more lawyers than engineers!
    So... be sure you let Apple know that you would like them to add support for a particular camera, but just as important, make sure that your cameras manufacturer knows that you would like them to allow Apple to support their cameras with Apple's software.

  • Nikon D1x RAW Files (NEF) do not open on current version of OS X, can somebody confirm?

    I just tried to edit some of my older Nikon D1x NEF files (anno 2003) and realized that I cannot open them anymore, they just show up as solid pink in Quickview, Aperture, Preview etc. It seems to be a bug in Apple's RAW support and after checking this on 3 current computers also from very old CD's, I can confirm it is the same problem everywhere.
    Ironically the problem seems to be limited to *vertical* photos only, horizontal files open just fine.
    Can somebody who also has old Nikon D1x NEF files please check and confirm too? If somebody else has this, I file a bug report with Apple.
    Thank you in advance!
    Juergen

    This issue has been oft discussed in the Aperture forum.
    1)  This happens in photos you have imported via Nikon Transfer.  Nikon Transfer makes modifications to the NEF files, and this seems to cause issues with Aperture.  Images that are imported directly to Aperture (or iPhoto), or just copied off the CF card onto the Mac do not have this issue - I'd recommend ALWAYS doing this and eschewing Nikon Transfer.
    2)  This only happens if you updated to the RAW camera update 4.0.8 (release a couple weeks ago).  You can go back to 4.0.7 (see Aperture forum for tips on this) and it will resolve the issue.  Hopefully Apple will address this in a future update.

  • Nikon D1x - raw file size and sharpening in Aperture

    Good day all:
    I have looked for several hours but can't find the answer to two questions:
    1) How to set Aperture to use the full file size for the D1x, approx. 10.7 MB, vs the smaller Raw file size of 7.7 MB. The Nikon software all allows this function. Can aperture do it?
    2)Aperture greys out the shrapening buttons for my D1x files, but allows it for my D100. I have tried every permutation I can think of, no luck. I wonder if it might be related to question #1? Thanks so much. I really need to do some sharpening!

    I've created an XSD for this message which looks like this ( straightforward ) :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <schema xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" targetNamespace="http://www.test.nl/testschema" xmlns:test="http://www.test.nl/testschema" elementFormDefault="unqualified">

    </schema>
    I've imported this XSD in my ESB project and created a file adapter which reads this type op files.
    I've created another file adapter to write the files 1:1 to an output dir.
    In the routingservice I've created a very straightforward XSL mapping which maps everything 1:1.
    Now the problem
    When I use this input :
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rows>
    <row>
    <id>10</id>
    <naam>Martin</naam>
    </row>
    <row>
    <id>20</id>
    <naam>Edward</naam>
    </row>
    </rows>
    my output result is:
    <?xml version="1.0" ?><imp1:rows xmlns:imp1="http://www.test.nl/testschema"/>
    I know this is a namespace issue. When I add the namespace
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <rows xmlns="http://www.test.nl/testschema">
    <row>
    <id>10</id>
    <naam>Martin</naam>
    </row>
    <row>
    <id>20</id>
    <naam>Edward</naam>
    </row>
    </rows>
    I get the correct ( and 1:1 output ).
    The problem is. In the scenario I'm about to build the input xml messages do not have an namespace. How can I alter my xsd file or anything within my ESB project that all files will be picked up correctly and processed without having an default namespace?
    Any help is appreciated!

    True,
    But its the other way around what is causing my problem.
    Because the input xml files contain no namespace at all the xml messages are transformed but result in an almost empty xml message. ( e.g. the root element is there and thats it ).
    This is because the XML transformation mapper in ESB ( as well as BPEL ) excplicitly needs a namespace.
    I solved it by editing the XSL by hand, removing the :imp1 namespace prefixes in the select="" tags. e.g.
    <xsl:for-each select="/imp1:rows/imp1:row"> is updated in
    <xsl:for-each select="/rows/row">
    As far as I know this is the only workaround at the moment that I could find.

  • Nikon D200 NEF+ JPEG

    I am using a Nikon D200 with Aperture. When the camera is set to record a NEF+ JPEG file for each shot Aperture only displays the NEF files. Both the NEFs and JPEGs are on the CF card. Is there any reason for this or way to see both the files for each shot?
    Advice appreciated.

    Short answer.
    Your RAW & JPEG images are imported into Aperture when you shoot RAW + JPEG. Aperture only displays the RAW file and stores the JPEG for future use.
    You can extract this JPEG file by selecting the RAW image in the Browser and choosing Images>New Version From Master JPEG.

  • Nikon D200 and iPhoto

    Earlier, I asked the question,
    I'm considering upgrading to a Nikon D200. Can I download images in RAW/NEF and JPEG from Nikon D200 into iPhoto 5.0 on my old PowerBook G4?
    One person answered the question and then the thread was archived for some reason. I was hoping to get more discussion on this topic. For example, I'd like to ask the person who responded if the camera and the software work well together and if this is the primary software he uses for his or her digital photos.

    I am just trying to start a topic???
    I have a Nikon D200 and iPhoto 08 with the newest download. It had camera compatibility updates, I think that is where my problem is. All of my Nikon RAW (NEF) files have the wrong White Balance temperatures in iPhoto. They were good before this download. How do I roll the update back, and how do I report it to Apple as a bug???

  • How to separate RAW and JPEG files from shoot?

    I'm a beginner at processing RAW files and would appreciate some help. I have concerns about moving files around in Lightroom and misplacing them.  My question is:
    I have imported 100 or so photos of a portrait session into Lightroom 4. Shot NEF + JPG on the card. i now have 50 pics of each file type - NEF and jpeg alternate. How best to separate file types, as a group say, in LR for best workflow post processing? I plan to work on Jpegs first and leave RAW files until later when I get some 'learning' time. Thanks.

    Hi Jake.
    This should be easy - make Smart collections - one with JPEG as filetype and one for RAW as inclusion criteria.
    Be sure to rename the Smart collection something helpful like JPEG or RAW as the case may be.
