Nikon D3/D4 and LR4

Hi. I am a photographer and want to see my photos when shooting directly into LR4. I have a Nikon D3 and D4. How does it work? Thank you.

Have a look in the Manual found under the Help Menu. For the D$ I believe you will need to have the latest Lr4.2RC.
Also look on AdobeTV for freee videos.

Clarification: this is a user forum; you are not addressing Adobe here.
The answer to your question as phrased is: never.
CS5 is history and it is not longer supported.  There will not be any updates or bug fixes for CS5.
You need to convert the raw NEF files from your D810 to raw DNGs using the free, standalone Adobe DNG Converter 8.6 RC (beta), the first version ever to support that camera..

  • Uninstall purchased PS and LR4 before installing from creative cloud?

I'm a new CC subscriber with purchased copies of Photoshop (CS6) and LR4. Do I uninstall either or both before downloading the CC versions of both apps?
    Thanks,

For PS CS 6, you just need to Deactivate and then activate again with Creative cloud Adobe ID and password.
You can continue using LR as there are no "cloud only" updates available for LR as of now.

  • I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.  I get a message saying that Camera Raw does not support my camera type but it always has in the past.  The bridge no longer shows the picture view of my NEF files.  These are Nikon NEF files from the Nikon 5100 DSLR camera.  How do I fix this?

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.

The D5100 was first supported in Camera Raw version 6.4.
In Photoshop, click Help > Updates to update Camera Raw.

  • Compatibility issue with Nikon's D700 and Aperture downloading RAW files.

Need a little help with this one - purchased a NIKON D700 (today) and tried to download RAW files into Aperture - got a bad message - unsupported image format - (shows on a reddish background)
I worked on the problem for about 4 hours, both with the software and the camera, but to no avail... upon inital download you see a small image but the message occurs when the image is clicked on.
Thank you in advance for any comment or idea you might have.... occurring

You will have to wait until Apple updates the MacOS to recognize the D700 in its RAW profile. It's not listed yet:

You'll have to shoot JPEG or use Nikon's software until Apple gets around to it. Maybe try Lightroom.

  • IPhoto 09, Nikon D90 Camera and GP1 GPS unit

I own a Nikon D90 camera, and have just ordered a Nikon GP 1 GPS unit to use with it. I was wondering if there was anybody in the forum with this setup already, and what experience they are having using it with iPhoto 09. I have written Nikon, and am going to write Apple, with this question, but was hoping there might be somebody that already had the answer and experience in the forum. Any help would be appreciated, thank you, Jim C.
    Dual 1 Gig G4, 2 X500 Gig HD, 1.5 Gig Memory Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I am using Jobo photoGPS ( alias Geotate Kato) together with Canon EOS450D with to my great satisfaction.
It works with any camera having a flash-shoe; very small unut, excellent battery life.
Raw GPS data is recorded; you need a PC(now on the mac too) to match photos and GPS-data which is then written into EXIF. Diffferent from other units, the clock on this one does not need to be exactly synchronised with the camera.
Importing these photos into iPhoto'09 works without any problems: they are automatically placed in the correct location.
On the other hand, I have enormous problems with loading the maps; they're loade only partly, extremely slowly or not at all. The longer I work in iPhoto, the worse it gets up to complete blocking.
Looks to me very much like a memory-leak. I already contacted Apple: no response.
Restating the Mac temporarily solves/betters the problem.
    Any clues?

  • I already have CS6 and LR4 which do everything I need.

    Adobe,
    I hope you are listening....
I would like to have Lightroom as part of the CC package along with Photoshop. If this were the case I would probably sigh up today or at the next release of either product.
But there are a couple of things that would need clearing up first.
    1) I require that after an agreed upon interval equivalent to the price of the perpetual license version of a given      software that the original version remain functional if I deceide to stop the subscription.
Let's say I Subscribe to CC CS6 and LR4 at the market price of $750
Then at the price of $20 subscription after 38 months of paying the subscition service I would be able to  retain the functionallity of the original CS6 and LR4 if the subscription is cancelled.
    2) At any point in time during that 38 month period I will be able to buy the product/s at a prorated price.
    3) Yearly price freeze for subscriptions.
If these are not the case then the question is why should I bother? What is in it for us Semi Pros or Advanced Amatures without deep pockets or a corporate budget?

Are you basically asking for two apps for the price of one?  While we would all love to get two for the price of one, I don't think they, being Adobe, are willing to just give away software.
It was PS, LR, and Acrobat Pro where the apps that made me really consider the value of the CC membership.  I can understand the feeling of having to pay for things you are not interested in or willing to pay for.  Individual memberships for two or more apps though seem to make the full CC membership much more attractive.  At least in my case.
    Yes...
or you can say that we are asking for 16% of the cloud applications for 40% of the price. I think that is a great deal for Adobe!
Of course if other software companies see that Adobe can pull off this Pay As You Go scheme then they will all get on board.
Let's start small, MS Office ,by subscription...  Windows, Mac OS?
The software companies developed this marketing strategy years ago, but like the old days of Customer Service call departments dying off so might the concept of perpetual licensing. It's a brave new world.

The best thing to do is download the trial of Lightroom and see if it works for you. The trial is the complete program. The only thing different about the trial is that it expires after thirty days. Your images stay in the folders you already have so there's little risk. Good luck!

  • How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

How can i use Nikon D 7100 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-LF1 with Photoshop CS 5 Camera Raw?

The one needs 7.4 (or better), the other 8.1, so Photoshop CS5 with ACR6 is not up to the task.
The free DNG Converter could be used to convert the RAW images to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to process.

  • Big Colour and detail changes between Original Nikon RAW files and the images created on the Preview page!

Big Colour and detail changes between Original Nikon RAW files and the images created on the Preview page! Yes there are distinct visual changes when I preview my Nikon NEF RAW Files. Please note I do not use iPhoto at all.
If you view it as a contact sheet straight from the original folder there are no alterations but the moment you double click and want to 'Preview' it, this new preview page introduces very noticeable distortions : lighter shading goes missing and colour goes darker e.g orange turns red and mid blue goes deep blue!  Alarmingly the little column on the left of the preview page showing the collection shows the original file colours and then after a few seconds show the new distorted image...you can see this visible change and it takes place after a few seconds once you double click! Also if you use Apple's 'Cover Flow' to preview, this function will replace your original RAW file with the new 'altered preview' image!
I have raised this with Apple but they have yet to reply...has anyone ever experienced this? I have used my Mac book for 18months only noticed it about 5 days ago!
I went to Apple store and we tried it in other laptops and Macs and it happened to all of them so we think this is a software issue and not down to the laptop.
    Any help is much appreciated!

  • 10.6.4 and Nikon Coolscan 5000 and Fuji ScanSnapS1500M

Both scanners stopped working after the update. Attempted to re-install the software but no luck.
Fuji scanner: Software starts but scanner is not recognized by the software
Nikon scanner: Nikon Scan crashes repeatedly on start (i.e. Won't open).
Hopefully ScanSnap will update their software soon, however I doubt Nikon will. If anyone had a way around to make it work again it would be much appreciated.
    Thank you

Two options that you might find useful are Silverfast http://www.silverfast.com/show/scanners-nikon/en.html and VueScan http://www.hamrick.com/
    Silverfast will handle dust removal.
Silverfast is somewhat expensive, and VueScan is under $100.

  • CS5 and LR4  camera raw upgrade for Nikon D610

I only see the CR upgrade 8.3 for PS6...I have PS 5 and LR 4...does that mean they are not compatable and I must upgrade to both...

If you upgrade Lightroom and install the 5.3RC you could then use your existing Photoshop as the external editor and render a copy with Lightroom adjustments and send that to Photoshop. Or, you could download the DNG converter and use it to create digital negative copies of your raw files. Those could be used with what you already have.

  • "Splotchy" Nikon .NEF imports into LR4

    Hi,
I am a new LR4 user.  I have the latest 4.2 update.  My camera is a Nikon D7000 and I have noticed something rather odd since I've started using LR4.  When I import raw .NEF files into LR4 any area of the image that would normally be smooth has a "splotchy", textured appearance to it.  Even at ISO 100, this textured appearance is visible on blurred, normally smooth portions of the image when zoomed in at 2:1 or 3:1.  When I open the same image in Capture NX2, the same portions of the image are smooth as expected with no noise or otherwise weird appearance.  To avoid this, I have to open the image in NX2 and save as a .TIF, then open in LR4.  Then, everything looks okay.  I have tried all the various profiles under 'Camera Calibration' but nothing gets rid of the annoying textured appearance.  Anyone else noticed this, or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you for  your response.  I think you hit the proverbial "nail on the head".
When getting the screenshots ready, I paid attention to the settings on the 'Detail' panel.  When I changed the default Sharpening amount from 25 to zero, the images looked almost identical at 300% zoom.  I also noticed on the NX2 'Camera Settings' panel that a small amount of noise reduction was automatically being applied upon import.  When turning that off, the images looked the same.  When sharpening is increased in either program to where artifacts are present, the two images start to differ in appearance, but I assume that is due to the different sharpening algorithms used in the different programs.  I will probably continue use Photoshop for final image sharpening.  I haven't found anything else to compare to it for final sharpening.
Thanks again for helping this 'newbie' to Lightroom!
    Mike

  • Dual Monitors and Lr4

I am looking at switching from using Aperture and Photoshop, to Lightroom and Photoshop for my photography workflow. However during my free Lightroom trial, I have ran into a deal breaker with dual monitor support.
I use a Macbook pro w/ an external monitor for editing. In Photoshop and A3, I keep all my pallets, sliders, and thumbnails on the laptop screen, and display the full size image on the external display. I would like to do the same in Lightroom 4, however, there is one small problem.
When trying to achieve the same set up in Lightroom, I can view the image nicely on the external monitor, but I can't actually work on the external monitor. Example: If I decide a blemish needs touched up I can't use the spot removal tool on the large external display, but instead have to use it on the small laptop screen image. The same is true of the crop overlay and adjustment brushes. Also the fantastic option commands for mask overlay and sharpening, are not visible on the external display.
Please tell me there is someway to change this?
I strongly prefer LR4's sharpening and noise reduction, and feel I could reduce my reliance on CS6 for many images.
    Thanks in advance,
    Troy

My first encounter with Lightroom was similar to yours: Why the heck can't I move the panels where I want them? This is ridiculous...but after a while it grew on me.
There's no reason you can't have the main action on the large external monitor (as ssprengel says). But you have to get used to the idea right away that Lightroom is a single-screen application, and the second screen is just an extension used for an alternative view (grid/loupe/1:1). Don't fight it, it's just how it is.

That's absolutely right, that's what happened to me.

  • Nikon Capture NX and Mac OS 10.4.11

Using Nikon Capture NX, thumbnails don't display in the browser. Program will not quit and must be Force Quit every time. Other functions seem OK.
I have tried various versions, from the CD that came with the camera (ver 1.3.0), to various others up to 1.3.3 downloaded from various Nikon sites around the world. In between each install I have done an uninstall, even to the point of doing a spotlight search to remove any remaining items from Library>Application Support.
Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
