Nikon D3  NEF thumbnails won't expand into larger screen on clicking

Help Please. When viewing the raw 14 bit files from the new Nikon D3 in Bridge we see broad black bands down two opposite sides of the thumbnails and the thumbnail will not expand to larger screen view when clicked on; they stay at thumbnail size in the larger preview window. Jpegs created at the same time have no such problem. Funny thing is that sometimes these raw files will not have the large black border bands when Bridge starts afresh but new files imported into Bridge have the problem. Older files that had the problem often are self corrected but no amount of idle time in Bridge seems to assure the correction process to work out or catch up. Very hit and miss, mostly miss. >>>Maybe not surprisingly, if an NEF file is opened in ACR and processed and closed it then works properly in Bridge afterwards.<<<
A few technical notes: Bridge v2.1.1.9, ACR 4.3.1 and CS3 v10.0.1 Images are imported through Nikon Camera Control Pro 2, v2.0.0 or Nikon Transfer v1.0 or card readers; makes no difference. When opened in CS3/ACR all files are normal.
Any thoughts on how to make these files work normally in Bridge without going into ACR first?
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,

  • Thumbnails won't go into full screen and remain small in size.

Seem to be having continual problems with iPhoto 6. When I go in into edit mode or even when I try to view photos full screen, I only get small photos (a little bit larger than thumbnails, they are). In otherwords, can't get full screen. Have rebuilt the thumbnail cache, etc. to no avail. Any idea what is going on? The sliding zoom bar at the bottom has no effect.

Are you running iPhoto 6? The Advanced pane should look like this.
    If it was OK earlier then try BatChmod and if that doesn't work try rebuilding the library with iPhoto Library Manager. It creates a new, separate library and leaves the original untouched. Here's how;
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It can take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.

    Hi,
I just got my K1 2 days. Was working fine but all of a sudden when i try to power on today, it keeps showing me the Lenovo and Powered by Tegra Screen. It won't go into the main screen. I'm very sure i have enough power on the K1. Tried powering off and on many times but still no luck.
Anyone with any advise please? I did not upgrade any firmware or settings. Just installed a couple of children apps. Thanks.

Sounds lke your bootloader has become corrupt. With the system off, what happens if you press and hold the power button and volume up buttons at the same time for several seconds? Can't say for sure if this will help.

  • Tumblr's images won't expand -- known to be only a Firefox issue

In the last three-ish days, I've been noticing that my Tumblr dashboard:
a] won't load past a few pages (I use infinite scrolling)
b] won't expand any images when I click on them
c] won't let me edit posts, period
All of these are not an issue in Chrome. Anyone know any fixes?

Looks normal to me (I didn't try to post, though).
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    1. Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server. Any difference? If not...
    2. Clear Firefox's Cache Completely
orange Firefox button ''or'' Tools menu > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
    3. If needed, remove the site's cookies in this dialog
While viewing a page on the site, right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?
Speaking of cookies, how do you manage cookies? In particular, do you have Keep until "they expire", "I close Firefox" or "ask me every time" under:

    Not wrong?
Let us have a look at the error message:
"The following files were not imported because they could not be read"
This clearly gives the user the impression that there is a reading error where you want to copy the files from. Is that the actual error?
No, the actual error is that the file could not be written at the destination.
It is possible that it is not factually wrong because Lightroom first make a failed copying attempt without giving an error message, then still assumes that the files have been copied and tries to import them, and THEN makes a failed import attempt from the destination and gives the error message. But that would never be anyone's first guess when they experience that error message.
A much better error message would be: "The following files were not imported because they could not be copied to the destination folder."

  • Cannot import Nikon D800 NEF photos into Preview, iPhoto, or Aperture

My iMac will not display Nikon D800 NEF photos in Preview, iPhoto, or Aperture. Any solutions?

    Need more info.
Most specifically, which OS version are you using? Which versions of Aperture and iPhoto?
From the sound of it, my first guess would be the versions you're running. Nikon D800 gained support in Lion 10.7.4 (Nikon D800E support was added in RAW Compatibility update 3.13 sometime last year).
If you're running versions earlier than these (e.g Snow Leopard) then the OS doesn't know how to deal with these RAW files.

  • NEF Thumbnails not displaying in Bridge CS3

I decided to dip my toe into RAW images. However unlike jpegs and tiffs the NEF thumbnails are not rendering in Bridge CS3. However when I double-click on an unrendered thumbnail it does open normally. As seeing thumbnails would be very helpful I decided to do a software update to see if this would cure the problem. During the install process I got the following message - Installation Incomplete - The Updater is unable to locate the product to be updated - Adobe Camera Raw 4.6 Update failed to install.
Outcome - NEF thumbnails still not rendering.  By the way my NEF images were produced on a Nikon D60.
Help would be appreciated. Thanks in anticipation. Victor Patterson, Ireland

  • Using the Nikon RAW NEF format and Nikon Capture NX.

This is about using the RAW NEF format in Aperture together with RAW NEF capable editing programs, specifically Nikon Capture NX.
I basically agree with Aperture that it is a "workflow tool" and NOT a photo editor with all the bells and whistles of Photoshop or Nikon Capture. Apple fixed the most basic level of NEF conversion with version 1.1, great!
However, as a workflow tool for RAW images, I cannot seem to figure out how to use RAW (Nikon's NEF) files efficiently with the new Nikon Capture NX.
Nikon Capture NX is quite an interesting alternative to Photoshop. (I cannot wait or the Universal version, as with Photoshop, but that is another matter.) I like the work flow idea it uses, and I like that it edits the RAW NEF files directly, layering the edits on the RAW data. If I open an edited NEF file in Photoshop using the Nikon Plug-in, the result looks great. If I open the same file with Aperture (or using the Adobe RAW plugin) the result is basically an unedited version of the RAW NEF file. This is very disappointing.
It seems I need to export the file from Nikon Capture as a TIFF or JPG. The TIFF gives good results but takes up about 10x more disc space. With the JPG I must give up the 16-bit per channel color depth. Neither allow me to have a "RAW workflow" as advertised by Aperture.
What am I missing? Is this something Apple is going to work on by working more closely with Nikon (and Cannon)? (I figure Nikon keeps their conversion algorithms secret.)
Or are we out of luck here?

How do I know? Well if you change the white balance settings in-camera, different numbers come thru in Aperture. But the numbers in Aperture, ACR and the presumed numbers in-camera do not match. I wrote Nikon about this quite a while ago and they wrote back saying we do not know how other people interprete our proprietary WB numbers. See note below for additional insight as how you might look further into it
"The shooting data I referenced is available in Nikon View Browser when viewing your images. Looking at all the images at once, it is easy to compare changes made to the camera by quickly clicking on the separate thumbnails. They displayed the differences I had mentioned before. If you do not already have the software, you can download it here:
Title: Nikon View 6.2.7 Full Version - Windows
    URL: http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_faqid=13760&pcreated=1131989543
Nikon Capture will not report a temperature value for White Balance, unless a manual Kelvin setting is selected using the option in the D200. As I mentioned before, Auto White Balance, and other Auto settings in the camera may not deliver a consistent result in a burst or as separate still frames even if the subject has not moved or changed. You have a cast on that one image using Auto White Balance. This is not uncommon, just choose a different value. The value may not even accurately reflect what situation you are in. It may be sunny, and you choose cloudy. The White Balance is not measuring the ambient light, it's used to measure the temperature of the light reflecting off your subject. The closer your subject is to white, the closer the value. This is why a preset is taken with a white or neutral gray card.
Since Auto White Balance covers a wide range of temperature, the exact value is not recorded anywhere that I know of. In addition, all White Balance temperatures are approximate values, as per the manual page 35. Having a cast on an image while using Auto White Balance is very possible, just choose another value more suited to the ambient light.
Set the White Balance to K , and capture an image, and this will be reported by the shooting data in Nikon Capture. I have no idea whether ACR is reporting an accurate value or not, we do not support that software, but check this value against what you see in there software."

  • Just imported picture library from Aperture - Can't view Nikon D800 NEF files in LR5.7.1

Just imported a large picture library from Aperture to LR 5.7.1- Can't view Nikon D800 NEF files in LR5. The projects and files loaded - but no thumbnail view of the image

I have a Nikon D50 nef on my desktop. Double-clicking on it opens Photoshop, which launches Adobe Camera Raw. If you get that far and can make adjustments in the ACR panel, you are fine. That's what opens first.
Then you click "Open" in ACR and your nef opens in Photoshop and the document tab on top gives the .nef extension. You make your edits there, but if you close Photoshop, you won't save it as nef, it won't be in the Save file list. You save it as psd for example and close Photoshop.
You now have a nef with develop settings on your desktop and the psd you saved out of Photoshop.
All perfectly normal as J.J. said, Photoshop will edit the nef file, but it will be saved in a format other than nef.

  • How do I set up Premiere Elements 12 to open Nikon D810 NEF, RAW files?

I'm running a Windows 8.1 computer with Premiere Elements 12.  New Nikon D810 RAW files will not open in program.  Is there a plug-in or other fix for this?

    gsorozan
You cannot import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements 12. For that you need to have Camera Raw at least 8.6 which is supported by Premiere Elements 13. So, if you want to import Nikon D810 nef files into Premiere Elements, you need Premiere Elements 13.
However, if you convert your Nikon D810 nef files into dng files with the DNG 8.6 converter, you can import those dng files into your Premiere Elements 12.

  • Nikon RAW image thumbnails can't be see.

When trying to open a file in PS6 (13.0.1 32 & 64) I can't see NEF thumbnails (Nikon D800). Files will open but I need to see thumbnails to be able to selct the image easily. ACR v 7.3.0.71 is installed and I have checked that this is the latest version. I am able to see NEF thumbnail images in Lightroom 4.
Help / advice please as I am new to PS6. Thanks
    Simon

PS is using an operating-system-level function while you’re in File / Open.  You either need to be using an Adobe product such as Bridge that does use ACR to render thumbnails, or you need to update your operating-system with a codec that understands Nikon RAW formats.
You can try the Microsoft Codec Pack:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829
Or you can pay for the Fast Image Viewer Codec Pack that understands how to get at the thumbnails of many different image formats, including Adobe PSDs:
