Nikon D300 RAW NEF files not recognized ???

I just got a new Nikon D300. I Have been using a Nikon D80 shooting RAW with no problems. I cannot get iPhoto or Aperture to recognize any RAW files. RAW+jpeg results in the jpeg files being imported by not the RAW files.
All software is the newest version, iPhoto08 v 7.1.1 and Aperture 1.5.6 Here is the error message I get in iPhoto
Unreadabel Files:
/private/var/folders/1s/1suEP7hYGu15kLLAa5I2+++TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/DSC_0075.NEF
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I just pickup a D300 and unfortunately Aperture nor iPhoto will not import the picture in the RAW format. Do you know if the RAW format will be updated in the new OS release that is to be announced?
I also contacted Nikon about the Capture NX program that came with the camera and Nikon told me that they are working with Apple to resolve the issues with there program as well.
It would be nice if the Camera venders would work with Apple before introduction to make sure the software is available to support the hardware they introduce..

I have loaded directly into Lightroom using import and via Nikon Capture NX2. RAW files display fine in Capture.
In Lightroom, blank previews are created for each available image, with the message "Preview unavailable for this file."

In the mean time, or if it doesn't make it into LR 5.3 and you like techy stuff, see http://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/52616096 for how to patch the exif of Df NEFs to look like D4 NEFs, as the presumption is that the sensor is identical.
Warning: take note of the advice in that thread to make backups of your NEFs first. Second warning: read the whole thread. In the first post he says Exiftool when he means Exifchanger.

I can't read Nikon D5200 Raw NEF files with CS6 under Windows 8.1?

I bought a new PC so I could use Photoshop CS6 more efficiently. However, after I installed CS6, I can't read Nikon D5200 Raw NEF files under Windows 8.1. I've tried updating CS6, but nothing seems to work.

First, I hadto load the most recent version of the Adobe Application Manager. Then I could see all of the CS6 Updates including the most recent Camera Raw update.
I had to run one update at a time for it to work correctly.
But now I'm cooking with gas.

Photoshop Elements 8.0 will not open Nikon D610 RAW .NEF files

I am using Photoshop Elements 8.0; just purchased a Nikon D610 and when I try and open the RAW .NEF files I get error message saying wrong file type.

Nikon D610 is supported in ACR 8.3 (adobe camera raw version 8.3) while PSE8 is quite old. You may convert to DNG and then process converted DNGs in PSE8. For 8.3 DNG converter, see http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694

My RAW(.NEF) files not rendered in A3

i have a Nikon D700 & Aperture 3.1.2 i am new to aperture. when i imported my files from my hard disk(i don't use iPhoto) my TIF & JPG files are rendered buy my RAW(.NEF) files are not. says "unsupported image format" but, in aperture help it says the D700 & .NEF are supported. anyone have any idea what's going on and what can i do? i have "Lion" OS.

The fact that Preview also is not able to render the RAW file but that Capture NX can really points to a RawCamera.bundle problem.
Both Aperture and Preview as well as iPhoto and any other OS application that processes RAW file all use the same code provide by the OS (the RawCamera.bundle). Third party software like Capture NX provide there own RAW code.
Since rolling back the RawCamera.bundle to 3.7 have you tried to re-import any of the RAW files that are currently failing? Or you can try importing a new RAW file from your camera.
I wish I had more to offer you but if rolling back the RawCamera.bundle to 3.7 isn't fixing the issue I'm not sure what else to recommend.
Of course you should run the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics steps just to rule that out if you haven't already done so.

Merge to HDR Pro does not work on Nikon D800 RAW (NEF) files

Hi,
I can't get Merge to HDR Pro to work on NEF RAW files from my Nikon D800 - nothing happens after after confirming the file selection. However, it works ok if I convert those files to DNG (using Lightroom 4), and if I use the D800's JPGs, and if I use Nikon D7000 NEFs. It just seems to be a problem with Nikon D800 NEFs.
Steps taken:
1. File -> Automate -> Merge to HDR Pro
2. Browse... and select NEF files (even selecting 2 files does not work).
3. Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images is checked. Then press OK.
Expected result:
Progress cursor spins as files are loaded and HDR dialog appears.
Actual result:
Nothing happens - no progress cursor or CPU or disk activity - it is as if I had clicked cancel instead of ok.
This is a clean install of the 64 bit CS6 beta on Windows 7 64 bit, with no plugins, and I reset preferences (Ctrl+Alt+Shift on startup). I do have my existing CS5 Extended still installed, as well as Lightroom 3.6 and 4.0.
I can send you the NEFs if you like.

Hi,
The Ps CS6 public beta version contains the same camera support as found in Ps CS5/5.5 compatible CR 6.6. There will be future updates to CR 7 for Ps CS6 to pick up more camera support. The Nikon D800 NEF files are not supported, yet.
If you like to work with your D800 files in the public beta build now, you'll have to get the DNG Converter 6.7 from here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
and convert your files to DNG.

NEF files not recognizing by DNG converter

i have downloaded DNG Converter 8.3 7.1 6.3 on my laptop but the converter doesnt reconginize NEF files from my camera nikon D800, my operating system is windowns ultimate 64 bit, i recently upgraded from Windows XP it was working fine with XP, please help

Besides not selecting the folder the way the DNGC wants, another possibility is that you’ve used older Nikon software, Nikon Transfer or View NX, which are known to corrupt raw files for newer Nikon cameras. You can reverse this corruption using the utility from here:
http://owl.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/fix_corrupted_nef.html
A further possibility is that you’re trying to process video-stills from the camera when a DX lens was mounted. This combination of video aspect ratio and DX-cropping is not compatible with Adobe products until the next versions.

I'm working on MAC with the latest OS and CS3 Photoshop and Lightroom 1.4.1 I'm looking for a way to import the latest Nikon NEF RAW files into Adobe. Will I need to wait for Adobe RAW 5 plugin? I cannot open the latest Nikon NEF Files from the new Nikon D90 slr camera...Any suggestions? Or a date for the new Camera RAW plug

ACR 5 will NOT work with CS3, only with CS4.

and your camera you need ACR 4.6, a nominally beta Release Candidate downloadable from Adobe Labs.

Nikon coolpix P6000 NRW files not recognized

Hello,
On my new Nikon, when I try to download the RAW images, neither iPhoto nor Image Capture will recognize the Nikon's RAW NRW format. If I shoot the images in JPEG, it is fine.
If I use Nikon's included software, I can download the RAW images to a folder, then import them into iPhoto with no problems. I do have the latest update for iPhoto which is supposed to include support for the NRW file format.
It doesn't matter if I use a card reader or usb hookup directly to the camera.
Is there a setting that I am missing? I would prefer to continue using either iPhoto or Image Capture to download my photos.

Hi Terence,
I have found where the USB transfer protocol is listed as MTP,PTP. The manual lists no option for changing that.
However, when I connect the memory card via a card reader, the memory card does show up in the finder, but it has the same problem, no pictures available for download.
I see on the Nikon website that there is a firmware update available for the coolpix, and I am waiting for Nikon to send me my password so that I can download it. I'll see if that makes a difference, but with even the memory card not showing any pictures, I don't really think that the problem is with the camera.

Nikon D90 RAW (NEF) files imported via iPhoto are not recognized

Would appreciate your help. Just got an iMac. OS X 10.6.7. Installed Aperture 3.1.2. I shoot RAW+JPEGs. Imported both files fine to iPhoto '11 from my old PC. When Aperture then imported an Event from iPhoto, I still see two versions of each shot, but Aperture calls them both JPEG. On one version the metadata is complete, on the second some is missing (e.g., Exposure Mode, Lens). Both are shown as 12.2 MP, no matter what. Can't do any editing this way! Each time a new camera model is introduced the camera raw plugin has to be updated for its format. The D7100 requires ACR 7.4 which is not compatible with PSE 9. So you have three options:
1. Upgrade PSE.
2. Use the nikon software to convert your files and open the converted files into PSE for further editing.
3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to convert your NEFs to DNG files that your version of ACR can understand.

Why does iLife06 iPhoto not acceppt and download the Nikon D3 ".nef" raw files to iPhoto version 6.0.06 ??

If you open iPhoto then from the Menu Bar, select Help. In the Search box type: raw
In the Help Topic results you will see: About digital cameras that support RAW files... click there.
In the next window click: Compatible-RAW-format cameras.
There's an asterisk next to Nikon D3* If you look at the bottom of that page you'll see:
** Requires Aperture 2 with Mac OS X v10.4.11 Tiger or Mac OS X v10.5.2 Leopard or later.*

How do I get PE 12 to open Nikon D810 RAW (NEF) files to work on?

Running Windows 8.1 machine with Photoshop Elements 12. Can't open RAW files from new Nikon D810. Is there a plug in? Any direction?

You will need to do a manual install since adobe doesn't let vista or xp update automatically anymore. The general procedure is described here (it's for PSE 11, but everything is in the same place in PSE 12):

Cannot open Nikon D5200 RAW (NEF) Files in Bridge CS5.

How do I sort this problem? Is there a bridge CS5 update for this camera? (I can't find one in Adobe Downloads)

The D5200 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 (current version is 8.1)

Camera Raw 7.x is not compatible with CS5 or lower versions. Only CS6+
Your options:
Join the Adobe Cloud and get the latest versions of the software
Upgrade to CS6 (perpetual license) which is still on sale but is now abandonware since the all-new Cloud-only CC versions of Adobe software will be released on June 17. CS6 will remain on sale but won't be patched or updated other than the occasional bugfix.
Convert the D5200 Raw files to DNGs using the free DNG converter then open and edit the DNGs in CS5
