Nikon D3000 - Unsupported Image Format

Hi -
It looks like Aperture is not working with the new Nikon D3000 raw format. I am able to see the thumbnails but when I try to view the larger picture, I get an unsupported image format error. Anyone else having this problem?
** Snow Leopard and Aperture 2.1.4**

Tell me about it. I am a professional photographer who has been working with Nikon and Aperture for a little while now in our portrait work. We have two d300's and a d700 which all work fine. Just picked up Nikon's new D300s for some on location portraits and it isn't supported. I wonder how long it'll be before apple releases their update.

  • Camera RAW support 2.2 update and Nikon .NEF unsupported image format

    Hi,
I Use a Nikon D2x and only take raw images (.NEF file)
After I update from RAW support 2.1.1 update to RAW support 2.2 update, all my raw image file (.NEF file) taken before 13th September 2006 ! would not display - In the Aperture program, if i navigate to a project / folder and clicked on a thumb nail in the browser, I get a magenta / cyan screen showing in the main viewer panel with unsupported image format. ?
This is my worst-case scenario ! - I have entrusted Aperture with all my digital images (all raw .NEF) images taken before 13th September 2006 are un accessible with camera RAW support 2.2 update installed !
I have deleted (the 2.2 update) “from” System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle and reinstall the RAW support 2.1.1 update.
    * NOW I can now see all my raw Nikon .NEF images and they are now all fully functional again *.
Their is a problem with the Apple digital camera RAW support 2.2 update, it rendered the Aperture program useless to me for my older .NEF image/files (as above).
    This requires a fix ASAP
    Martin

Thankfully, I wasn't affected by the issue given I'm currently with Canon. There have been Canon woes in the past though.
On a side note, I never update anything until it has been out for a few weeks just to be sure. Because Aperture is such an integral component of my studio and business, I make sure everything always works before making any updates or changes - including upgrading cameras.
I'm sure the next update will fix the magenta issues.
    Best,
    CD

  • Nikon D300 - Unsupported Image Format - intermittently!!!

Suddenly, I get intermittent displays of the maroon screen with Unsupported Image Format when displaying .NEF files which have worked fine before.
I see that others may have had this too...but could not find a definitive cause or solution...yet.
I am on latest version of everything with all patches installed, including the camera raw support 2.4

Try quitting and restarting Aperture... I bet the issue goes away after a restart (at least for a while).
Check the console logs (Applications/Utilities/Console.app)... click the "show log list" button, and select all messages, and then search for 'Aperture' and see if there is any log info indicating a problem. I suspect the RAW engine is reporting something's awry.

The new update come with D300 support. Someone know when we will have D3000 support also?
    Thanks.

  • When I try to import raw files from my nikon d600 I get the message Unsupported image format, When I try to import raw files from my nikon d600 I get the message Unsupported image format

When I import raw files from my Nikon D600 into Aperture I get a tryangle sign with "unsupported image format"

Latest Adobe DNG converter (7.2) DOES indeed convert NEF pictures coming from a D600.
Head up to Adobe's website and download the app.
You'll only miss the focus information (focus distance and focus sensors used), but you'll be able to work with raw and not rely on jpg only!

  • Unsupported image format message- Nikon 800D

I just purchased Aperture 3 (3.2.4) and keep getting an "unsupported image format" message when trying to download RAW images.  The thumbnail images do come up- from a new 32GB Sandisk Compact Flash card.  I'm using a new Lexar Professional USB 3.0 reader.  The fact that the thumbnails come up make me think the problem is not with the reader.
I've tried "reprocess masters" but that doesn't change anything.   I've tried just downloading a single image, and that still gets me the "unsupported" message.
I'm using 10.7.3 on my iMac.
Apple indicates that RAW files are supported from the Nikon 800D.  I was able to get metadata information and it did reference Nikon D800 with info on the lens used, aperture, speed etc.   But no image- just that nasty message.
Has anyone else had this happen and figure out why/how to get a proper RAW download?
    Thanks-   Ted

OS X Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
You might try to upgrade to MacOS X 10.7.4. The raw support for the Nikon 800D is now part of MacOS X 10.7.4.

P.S: if this does not help, try to register your camera with the launch services db, as described here:

  • Nikon D5000 RAW "Unsupported Image Format"

Well here's another one for the Unsupported Image Format category. I just received a Nikon D5000 took a hundred or two shots in RAW format only to find after importing them to Aperture a row of thumbnails. Now if only after clicking on a thumbnail for viewing it displayed the image and not "Unsupported Image Format".

all set with adobe raw 5.4, i grabbed the converter because the plugin is a p.i.t.a. and the installer isn't very friendly if you delete the plugin and try to start over. available from the labs at: http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/CameraRaw5.4
i wouldnt expect apple to add compatibility till 10.5.8. its a big name and soon to be popular machine. so i would bet on it. but when that comes, id also bet to be a long time from now.

  • "Unsupported image format" with my new Nikon D800E - please help.

I get this message: "unsupported image format" when I try to load photos from my new Nikon D800E. Aperture 2.1.4. Worked fine with old Nikon D300. I can get a thumbnail image in Projects, but that's it. Suggestions, please?!

Maria, the raw support for the Nikon D800E requires Aperture 3, see the technical specifications for the raw support in Aperture:    D800E**,   ** Requires Aperture 3 or later.
Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
You will have to upgrade to Aperture 3, to use the raw images with Aperture or shoot jpeg or use the software that came with your camera to develope the raw.

  • Nikon D70 RAW files now get "Unsupported Image Format"

Prior to March 12th, everything was working fine with my D70 Raw files. I now get the maroon "Unsupported Image Format" (USF) when I select the images that were previously fine. They show up for a fraction of a second before I get the error. I tried rebuilding the database to no avail. I can export the RAW files and open them in Photoshop so they are OK. Also now when I import from my D70 I get the gray box instead of the image and a letterbox maroon USF message, the EXIF data still imports and is associated with the image. Help. I did upgrade to 1.1.1
    Dual 1.8Ghz Powermac G5 2GB RAM Radeon X800 XT   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, I can't really put my finger on it. I know for sure it happened post 1.1 upgrade, but it happened with 1.0 as well (I didn't do any troubleshooting when it first happened, just re-imported and it was fine.) The last time it happened it was the last 20 images on the original CF card, mostly in succession, but there were a few images that were still able to be read okay inside of that 20 image string. I reimported from the original card (thank God I had not erased yet!) and it was fine.
At least I know to keep my originals outside of aperture, what a space wasting bummer! I don't think I have any bad RAM because I've been running for 2 years without any real problems... The minor problems have happened, I believe with very tough weather conditions (humidity) and I experienced problems on all my Macs and even at work on windows. Maybe it was sun flares or static electricity, I don't know. The other issue is that my a/c power dips to low voltage often and my UPS switched to battery. I have a better UPS which always outputs 120v even when things sag or jump.
The only other thing I can possibly think of is that I have my Aperture library on a new Seagate 300GB drive that has only been used for images and sits dormant in my system except for scratch disk and Aperture. Actually, I did use it for about a month or two mirroring my boot drive with no errors, so I think the drive is good. Grr!
Troubleshooting rare occurances without have access to trace level data *****! (At work we can take a trace dump from our equipment and the guys can see pretty quickly what happened, and if it is hardware or software issue.)
To clarify, which Dual 1.8 do you have? The June 2004 one with only 4 RAM slots, or the 2003 one that was added to the original lineup with 8 RAM slots?

  • Unsupported Image Format Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED

I see many posts for the dreaded "Unsupported Image Format" that it seems that Apple has ignored to fix in Aperture. My images display correctly while "loading," but then I get the "Unsupported Image Format Red Screen of Death" after the loading is completed.
I tried to lift and stamp to no avail. Has anybody found a work around?
    Thank you,
    Tim

I save the files in TIFF format, and they are 460 MB. I don't think that it is a file size issue because the files open in my Photoshop CS3 without any problems whatsoever. The preview images in Aperture work some of the time. I close and reopen Aperture, and they usually come back up.
Well, that still makes it a file size issue for Aperture! You are correct, there is nothing wrong with the files, you have not exceeded any known limits of TIFF file format, etc. But as we've discovered Aperture simply can't handle files that big. (I'm not it's ever been conclusively determined whether it's a file size thing or a pixel dimension thing, but they are of course tightly linked for any given scan resolution, so it probably doesn't matter anyway.)
I'd say the misleading error message is one of the worst parts of this bug. Especially for those of us with files that are slightly smaller, which open and work for a while before doing this. Obviously the file format is supported at first! "Memory limits exceeded" would work better, or perhaps "memory leak limits exceeded"

  • Unsupported Image Format for DNG from GF1?

I am in the process of trying to switch from Lightroom 3 to Aperture 3 (in case you are wondering why the main reason is increasing integration between iOS and Aperture).
Most of the images in my Lightroom catalog are from Nikon DSLRs which when I import as DNGs from Lightroom into Aperture show up just fine. However, all of the old DNGs I try to import from Lightroom as DNGs that were shot with my Panasonic GF1 don't render in Aperture and just show up as "Unsupported Image Format."
Please note that new GF1 images I import from the SD card of my GF1 import just fine. The problem seems limited to GF1 images saved in Lightroom as DNGs that I am importing into Aperture.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to correct this issue?
    Thank you.

Solved it. Had nothing to do with Photoshop PS4 install, it had to do with moving my home space to a larger external drive. One of the "import" setting changed (I don't remember changing it) such that the images weren't getting imported into Aperture. (Re-?)checked that, and all is well. Will go for the PS4-reinstall tomorrow.

  • HT3946 Unsupported image format

I've been getting a message "This photo was adjusted using an earlier version of APPLE RAW processing" unsupported image format and it's been doing this to photos I took today and my older one's any advice on how to fix this?

What is the make of your camera? This problem has occured recently mostly for Lumix and Nikon cameras:
First try, if reprocessing the images will help:
See this section of the user manual on how to do this for selected images:
Reprocessing Images from Previous Versions of Aperture
If this does not help, you may need to register your camera with the the launch service database again, see this post by Alan Roseman:, Re: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish
There is a "typo" in the command given in the link above, so read also the following posts on how to correctly enter the command and how the fix is supposed to work

  • EOD350D/ Digital Rebel raw - unsupported image format ?????

From the raw tech spec page:
Supporting the RAW formats from all leading digital camera manufacturers (including Canon and Nikon), Aperture provides optimized support for such market leading cameras as the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark II, Canon EOS 20D, and Nikon D2x as well as the highly popular Canon Digital Rebel and Nikon D50. It also supports the Adobe DNG format.

Well, I must be doing something wrong. Ik can see the thumbnails, but once imported I always get 'Unsupported Image Format'.... This is what most aften see in Aperture. I must be overlooking things....
EOS 350D with firmware version 1.0.2
    iMac 2GHz/1.5GB RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Ok, messing around in the raw.plist fixed this. Is not an Aperture issue, more an OS X 10.4.3 issue --> http://minimal.cx/2005/11/01/make-os-x-1043-understand-canon-eos-350d-raw-files/
