Nikon D3100 pics won't work in iPhoto

I've seen similar discussion regarding Nikon pics and iPhoto, but none with my exact issue. At first my Nikon D3100 photos wouldn't even transfer in iPhoto, but per other discussions, I figured out how to transfer them, but when I try to view them in iPhoto (other than thumbnail) or edit them, the pictures disappear and the window goes black. Anyone know what is happening, and how to fix it? I tried using the Nikon software that comes with the camera, but I MUCH prefer iPhoto.

In case anyone has a similar problem, I checked around and found this:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.
It worked for me!

Itunes 7.0.2 won't work with Iphoto 5 (5.0.4)

After updating Itunes to 7.0.2 I found an incredible mess of problems started happening -- none of my MS office 2004 applications now open, for example, because I now apparently have a "Carbon lib failure." How many of those are from the Itunes update I don't know, as I updated to OS 10.4.6 at the same time.
But one of the most irritating problems that MUST be connected to the Itunes update is that I can no longer put music to my Iphoto slideshows. When I hit the "add music" button in Iphoto 5, it shows me my Itunes playlists and a spotlight search window, but won't actually let me search in the window, or actually open my library or playlists to select a song.
Any ideas on how to revert to the previous version of Itunes, which seemed to work just fine. (Or, while you're at it, to the previous version of OS X.4)?
I've just switched my wife to Mac partly on the basis of the integration and stability of their ILIfe software, and this -- along with the proliferating OS glitches now on her computer as well -- has really undermined my case.

Your QT may work fine but is it the most current v7.1.3? This is not to say that this will resolve your problem. You might try to d/l the 10.4.6 combo update and reinstall the upgrade to the system. That might resolve the problem.
I would wait until the new year and then upgrade to iLife07. No sense in buying 06 if 07 is around the corner.
You can downgrade to an earlier version of an app. To downgrade iTunes you would need to remove the receipt from HD>Library>Receipts>iTunesX.pkg. You will also need the .dmg of the version you want to reinstall. Old iTune versions are avalable at http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
You can get old iPhoto at http://www.oldapps.com/iPhoto.php - instructions here http://www.oldapps.com/forum/showthread.php?p=545
To downgrade your OS you will need to reload the original OS from the system disks that you have then upgrade to the level that you want.

Hello my iphoto will not work and some times the computer screen flashes to a bunch of letters and numbers like a realy old 80's computer and frezzez!!! how can i fix this do I have to reboot my computer with operating disk? I am runing lion on a 09 macbook pro with 250 gigs and 8 gigs memorie. I do not have the operating disk so were do you buy them? I am curently travling in central america were there is no genius bar to help can any one please help me. My friend is going to canada for a few weeks so if i order new operating disk now he can pick me one up and i can start over when he returns. also my time machine wont work it says disk needs repair...

You will likely have to repair the drive from Leopard's install disk. Hold down c key while booting and repair drive from Utilities. Directions for Pram (Ram)
Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
Post back with a happy computer.

Mac pro with 10.9.2 maverick iphoto won't work

My mac pro with maverick installed won't work with iphoto. It tells me to use iphoto upgrader and when I do nothing changes, it still won't work.

Did you go to Applications/Utilties and actually double click on the upgrader to run it?

VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP Digital Camera - Does it work with iPhoto

I'm looking for an inexpensive digital camera for my son. One option is the VuPoint Solutions DC-M306AT-VP 3.1MP fixed focus camera. I saw it at Ritz Camera. Its only $69.
Has anyone tried connecting this camera to iPhoto? It has built in memory (16MB) plus an SD slot. I'm guessing that even if the camera won't work with iPhoto, the SD card can be read in an external reader. Your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. After going to their website http://www.vupointsolutions.com (which I didn't find earlier because Google searches inundate you with sellers rather than OEM links), I found some more clues. The FAQ for this particular camera states no drivers are needed for Windows XP and 2000. This is typically true for standard USB devices like memory card readers and hard drives and those usually also work on a Mac so I'm getting more confident that it will work.
But, there was another odd entry in the FAQ that kind of turns me off. It states that its normal for the camera to drain the batteries dead even when its not being used. It has internal SDRAM to keep alive. If the batteries die, you lose any photos stored in the internal memory and they recommend using an SD card.
For a few dollars more (approx $112), I'm leaning towards the Nikon Coolpix L10 or Canon A460. I can use it myself when I don't want to lug the Canon Digital Rebel around.

I had to purchase two OS X system upgrades, snow leopard and mountain lion, just to connect my new iPhone 5 and somewhere between uploading iPhone 4S pics to iCloud some important pics disappeared then installed new iTunes and purchased new iPhoto all just to connect new iPhone 5 and now half my apps won't work. No Rosetta to make apps work but its not as simple as upgrading apps and missing lost dogs pics from iCloud...HELP!

File a complaint with Apple for not giving adequate warning before upgrading OS X that it would render PPC programs dead.
That someone at Apple said requiring the iPhone 5 to have 10.8 (10.6.8 is the minimum actually) and in order to remain a loyal Apple customer they need to fix this mess and revert your machine and software back to 10.6.8
You see, 10.6.8 would have ran your iPhone 5 and ran your PPC based software, so whoever told you to upgrade to 10.8 was wrong and they need to fix your machine.
It can be reverted to 10.6.8 yourself.

IPhoto loads duplicate photos from my Nikon D3100

iPhoto seems to be creating duplicate photos for every image on my Nikon D3100. The camera playback shows only one image in the memory of the camera, but when it loads to iPhoto, there are two of the same image. This is true for downloads of hundreds of shots as well as those of just a few.
Anyone encountered a similar problem?

IPhoto and Apple ID won't work after system update

I've recently updated my MacBook Air to OS X v10.9.4. iPhoto won't work as i am currently using v9.2. I've tried downloading a later version but have been advised that my Apple ID will not work on this computer. NB. I have an iPhone but have not used the Apple ID on this - to my knowledge, or another Apple ID on my system. I'm a basic level user so any advice on this would be great.

Updated to Yosemite, no problem. now iPhoto and iMovie won't open. Says I need to update software however, when i try to update indicates my User ID and PW won't work for these two pieces of software. User ID and PW works everywhere else.

I am having the same problem. I even changed my password and updated all of my security information. Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work. Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00. So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid. Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

I am trying to import photos from mi Nikon D3100 to Iphoto 11, but there is a problem: I can't open the photos; the files are located in the folder of Iphoto Library, but it can´t be open by Iphoto. The extension file is.raw, but i have updated Iphoto to get compatibility with this extension file.
What can I do?

I had import the photos from NikonD3100 with Iphoto; after finishing, appears a message "photos have been imported ok"or something similar. But the events created are empty, there are no photos inside. Then, I thought that the problem was in the import, but I looked for the photos in the Iphoto Library with the finder, and the files were ther. I think that the problem colud be related with the .raw extension file (but I have all updated...)

Updated to os x now iPhoto won't work

i just updated my os to os x and now my iphoto (version 9.2.3) says that it won't work with this os. i'm presently downloading the updated version (9.5), will this solve the problem? thx

What exactly dd you do? Backin up your pictures is ot the same as backing up your iPhoto library - and if you pur your iPhoto library on an external drve it must be formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) - if you backed up your iPhoto library then siply drag it back to the picture folder and launch iPhoto

Iphoto not recognizing my preset manual white balance setting on my Nikon D3100

hi there.
i've been using iPhoto to edit my photos uploaded as RAW, from my Nikon D3100. While i've been very satisfied with the results, i've run across a small problem. i've used various white balance settings on my camera: incandescent, flourescent, auto white balance, and recently started using the manual white balance. when uploading pictures to iphoto, the photo has indicated what white balance setting i have used, except when i use my manual white balance feature, the information shows up as AWB (automatic white balance).
can somebody please explain to me why this is? any other setting i use shows up with the appropriate icon, according to what i choos on my camera. is this a glitch? what is the manual white balance setting icon supposed to look like in iPhoto?
Again, I shoot in RAW, and upload directly to iPhoto successfully, as RAW.

They are tagged with whatever the camera's setting was, (either that which was manually set or via auto-white-balance), but the actual data has not been changed. This allows one to set any colour temperature and white balance one wishes after the fact with no image degradation. It should be understood that once the file has been converted from the linear space and has had a gamma curve applied (such as in a JPG) white balance can no longer be properly done.
So the displaed WB is simply a tag and has no effect on the image - it is simply information about the camera settings

I updated my computer to the mavericks and now my iPhoto won't work. And when I go to update iphoto, it says it cant be downloaded onto my computer.

Seems like ios6 isn't any good for any of their devices. I have an iPhone 4 and recently updated to ios6 and have had all the wifi problems and apps getting hung up on load screens. Restore is your best bet and downgrade if you can back to ios 5.1. If restore doesn't help with a fresh install of ios6 then call every Apple support number you can find and be heard like the 1,000s of other people like us with ios6 problems demanding support. There doesn't seem to be any quick fixes for ios6 other than an update from Apple.

Thanks for that! I was looking for that manual, but for some reason, couldn't find it.
I guess I'll have to contact Nikon and find out what the real story is. The camera was introduced in '08 or '09, so I'm wondering why you'd need software as recent as 10.6.5??

Why does it state that the camera is compatible with "10.4.11, 10.5.8..."? Does that mean that anything between 4.11 and 5.8 is incompatible???
BTW, I tried downloading the 10.5.8 combo update recently and got an error message that the update was "corrupted" after it was all downloaded, so I was not able to install that.
