Nikon D3x & ACR & photoshop

Can not open files, get error message that file format not supported. When will a update be available???

It is frustrating for an ACR user to have a new camera that is not supported; however, that can be one of the unpleasant realities of life in the real world. The Adobe update policy for updating ACR has been clearly stated and they have pretty much kept their word on the timing of these updates. When buying a new camera, an ACR user should plan ahead and devise temporary workarounds if necessary.
I bought one of the first Nikon D200s and had to wait several weeks for support. An obvious workaround is to set the camera to record both JPEGs and raw. At that time, Nikon offered an infamous NEF plugin for Photoshop that allowed one to import NEFs into PS; however, the plugin set itself as the default NEF plugin and caused many problems for ACR users when ACR support was finally available. Another option is to use Nikon Capture, Bibble, or some other raw converter.
Not only did Nikon not supply Adobe with information about the NEF format for the D200, they encrypted the white balance and this caused further complications.
Rest asssured. The D3x version of ACR is in beta and was used by Michael Reichman in a report at the end of 2008:
Luminous-Landscape.

You should ask in the Photoshop CS5 forum.

  • ACR Nikon D3X profile not listed

Hi I have Adobe Bridge CS6 v 5.0.2.4. I've been using this for a few years with my Nikon D2 series cameras. When I open up a RAW file from one of these cameras, I have a choice of camera profiles for Nikon D2 cameras in the camera profiles drop down menu. No problem. However, I've recently added a Nikon D3x to my kit. When I open up a RAW file from this camera there is no profile listed in the drop down menu in ACR. I've checked on the Adobe RAW compatible cameras list and the Nikon D3x is confirmed as compatible but says I need a minimum of version of 5.3 camera raw plug-in for the D3x. When I check for updates from Adobe Bridge I'm told that I'm already running the most up to date version. Can anyone please advise how to resolve this? Thanks

Hi ssprengel and JimHess, ACR version 8.6.0.254. No when I open a RAW file from my D3x there is no profile for this in the drop down menu only Adobe Standard, a list of my D2 cameras and modes 1, 2 & 3 and portrait, landscape, vivid etc. No D3X. I'm just wondering if I'm missing something, should I be loading up the profile from somewhere? or should ACR recognise the camera automatically. What's puzzling me is that the Bridge/compatible cameras list says I need a newer version of Bridge than the one I'm currently running, but I don't know how to get it. The return on the 'check updates' tab says I'm running the most up to date version. Funny thing is I had one of the support people look at this via the chat service, eventually they asked me to send a RAW file from my camera so that hey could check it at their end. I got an email back later that day confirming that they couldn't see the D3X profile either, case closed..BTW, just to clarify, I have Bridge v 5.02.4 x64 . My version of ACR is 8.6. Thanks for your help, apologies if I'm missing something simple

  • Can not open RAW-Files from Nikon D4 in Photoshop cc

hi. i can not open RAW-Files from Nikon D4 in Photoshop cc. (Camera RAW 6.7) can you help please?

ACR 6.7 would be for an older product, PS-CS5 or PSE10 or PRE10.
What does Help / About Plug-ins… / Camera Raw… show in PS-CC for a version for ACR and is there more than one version of ACR in the Help / About Plug-in list.  Help / About Plug-in is what I’d do on Windows; I’m not sure if the menu path is the same on a Mac or not.

  • Where can I find the plugin to open camera raw files for Nikon D810 for Photoshop CS5.1? I've looked around the site but cannot get this to work.. Thank you.

Where can I find the plugin to open camera raw files for Nikon D810 for Photoshop CS5.1? I've looked around the site but cannot get this to work.. Thank you.

See for yourself which version of ACR is needed for that camera’s RAW files
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
then check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
Your version of Photoshop does not support that version of ACR.
You could use the free DNG Converter.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7. Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.7
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Opening NEF images from Nikon D3X in CS6

How do I open NEF images from my Nikon D3X in CS6?

A D3X only needs 5.3 ACR or better.  So you it should work just fine.
In Windows click Help/about plug ins/camera raw to see if it is loaded.

  • Nikon D3x 24MP NEF files

I have bought the new 24MP Nikon D3x But!!!!!! Lightroom 2.2 does not recognize this new file. I can open in Raw Developer 1.7.2

Eric Chan, ACR engineer, stated earlier this week (I think) that support would be forthcoming soon. I highly suspect it will be difficult for you to get a more precise answer from anyone.

  • Adobe camera raw and the nikon D80 in photoshop CS version 8

How can I open RAW files from my nikon D80 in photoshop CS version 8 ? At the moment I have to open and edit my RAW files through Nikon View NX and then convert the files to Jpeg, dump them in a folder and then re-open them as Jpegs in photoshop, it's a very frustrating process so I'd really appreciate it if anyone can tell me how I can open them straight into photoshop, I really can't take this cross platform editing !!!! Thanks

I'll put I this posting in the photoshop community so the experts there can help you.

  • How can I get my Nikon D3x raw images to download into the organizer of Elements 6.0

I recently purchased a Nikon D3x and have been unable to view my raw images in Elements 6.0. I have downloaded the Raw 5.4 update. When that did not work, i uninstalled Elements and the 5.4 update and reinstalled them again. I am able to download the raw photos into the  Elements Downloader, but once the photos go to the organizer, i get  the screen saying that "the file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included". According to the Adobe Tech Support Dept., Elements 6.0 is able to support the Nikon D3x, with the Raw 5.4 update. Has anyone else run into this problem and have a solution?
I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thank you for your response dj_paige.
I was able to see that the 4.2 that came with the Elements 6.0 is still on my computer (by going to the (Orange tab ) Edit/Help/About plug in). I could not find the 4.2 listed separately anywhere on the computer so that I could delete it. Is there a way to do this?  I am  a true novice, so when you say to make sure the old plug in is removed from the File Formats folder are you talking about in Tools?
I am talking about the File Formats folder that gets created when you install PSE. You have obviously been to that folder already because you said you installed Adobe Camera Raw 5.4. Go to that folder in Windows, and make sure that the old plug-in (which was named CameraRaw.8bi, but may have been renamed by you) is deleted from that folder (not renamed, not moved to a subfolder). Then, following the instructions are on the page where you downloaded Camera Raw 5.4, install the new plug-in.

  • Cannot open Raw images taken with a Nikon 5200 in photoshop cc

i am trying to open raw images taken with a Nikon 5200 in Photoshop cc but it says that camera model is not supported.  I looked at the Raw plugin version. It is 7.0.0.0.3. In support it said the minimum version is 7.3. I have downloaded the DNG Converter with camera raw 7.3. But it is still say i have version 7.0.0.0.3. Anyone know what to do?

If the plug-in version is 7.something then you're running Photoshop CS6 since Photoshop CC ships with Camera Raw 8.0 out of the box. Latest version is Camera Raw 8.4.
The Nikon D5200 has been supported since Camera Raw 7.3 so you can either update CS6 to Camera Raw 7.4 (In Photoshop CS6, Help > Updates) or use Photoshop CC which supports the D5200 out of the box.

  • Why cannot I open NEF files from a Nikon D600 with Photoshop CS5?

When I try to open raw NEF files from a Nikon D600 with Photoshop CS5 I get: "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw"
Nikon D600, however, is among the camera models listed as compatible with Camera Raw CS5.
I have never had any problem in Camera Raw CS5 and older versions with raw NEF files from a Nikon D80 camera.
Is there an update for CS5 to make it compatible with Nikon D600 raw NEF files?
    Many thaks in advance.

Which verison of camera raw do you have installed? I would update to the latest camera raw plug in. Here is a link to 6.7
