Nikon D4 -lightroom 3

Is there an option to use lightroom 3 with Nikon D4 NEF files?

Convert them to DNG using the free Adobe DNG Converter - Lr 3 will handle them happily enough.

  • Error trying to import raw files from NIKON to Lightroom

I am an amateur photographer. I just purchased a brand new NIKON D3300 took a few pictures, signed up for the Adobe annual Photographers Creative Cloud annual program and my first task to have Lightroom import a few test photos fails and I have no clue why my raw + jpgs can't be imported. at the outset In Lightroom I also got a "Preview unavailable for this file" message for every image file when I pointed to the memory card I had connected to my computer:
The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (35)

I've also attached a screen shot. I would sincerely appreciate any advice and guidance. I would really like to use Lightroom and all the Adobe products but I have no clue why it won't work with my NIKON test pictures. :-(

The Nikon D3300 Raw format is not yet supported in Lightroom 5 (currently 5.3).
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
Raw file formats are proprietary to each camera manufacturer and specific to each camera model. Adobe's Camera Raw engine (used by both Adobe Camera Raw - as a plugin to Photoshop - and Lightroom) must be constantly updated with every new camera make and model which arrives on the market in order to read and edit Raw files from that camera.
Adobe has added support for the D3300 to Camera Raw 8.4 which is about to be released. It is a Release Candidate (RC status) at the moment. So D3300 Raw support will probably be added to the next soon-to-be-released Lightroom update (5.4).
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw8-4-cc/?tabID=details#tabTop
In the meantime, you can download the free Adobe DNG Converter 8.4
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/cameraraw8-4.html
Using the DNG converter, you can then convert the D3300 Raw files to DNGs then open and edit the DNGs in Lightroom 5.3.
Once Lightroom 5.4 is released (assuming it also has D3300 support) the DNG conversion will no longer be required.

  • Nikon D40x Lightroom Problem

I have also posted this message in the ACR and Bridge Forums:
I am running Windows Vista and CS3 and am trying to process Nikon D40x raw files (NEFs) using ACR 4.1. The images come up properly in Bridge. However, when I try to add metadata using a metadata template, I get the error: "There was an error writing metadata to DSC_130.NEF." When I try to rotate an image in Bridge, I get the same error. If I try to do a Batch Rename, the name does not change. If I double-click on the image, it opens properly in ACR and the image can be rotated in ACR, and it then appears rotated in Bridge.
I also tried importing the D40x images in Lightroom. The following error appeared: "Problem Importing Files. The following files were not imported. The files appear to be unsupported or damaged."

I think from my reading at Adobe that there is to be an update to LR very soon, (not V1.1!) that will update the ACR engine in LR to handle the D40X.

  • Nikon d7000 & lightroom 2

I have just puchased the Nikon D7000 and Lightroom 2 does not seem to recognise it - I cannot import photos on my powerbook G4.  Anyone have any ideas??

Sorry, pipkay, I cannot agree with this. There is a free option, that I mentioned ...

  • Nikon D600, Lightroom 4.3 computer specs

I am using a Nikon D600, plan to purchase latest version of Lightroom. Need an updated computer for these large photo files. Would like recommendations on a system to keep this amateur happily editing in Lightroom. Thanks.

Then you have to build yourself - luckily they still sell Win 7 OEM versions (I just got one for my own new build)
For Lightroom the CPU is the critical component. You'll probably want to look at the quad-core i5 CPU's from Intel (or the equivalent from AMD) - they also have an integrated graphics controller which works fine with Lightroom (according to a recent thread), so that saves you the expense of a dedicated video card. You can get that later if needed (it will be with Photoshop for instance).
For RAM you probably don't need more than 8 GB. I've never seen Lightroom use more than 4 or 5, but remember that you have other things running as well. RAM is sensitive stuff, so make sure it's compatible with the motherboard and CPU. Pay attention to voltage (1.5 or 1.65).
An SSD is well worth the extra expense, but anything less than 256 GB is not very useful. Fill up with spinning drives as needed.
Finally - set up a detailed budget and save wherever possible, because I would strongly advise you to spend as much as possible on a good monitor. Don't settle for an ordinary office monitor, get one with an IPS panel. Office/consumer/gamer monitors use so-called TN panels, which are fast (and cheap), but have an awfully restricted viewing angle - to the point where the top of the screen is dark and the bottom washed out. Useless for photography.
Also make room in the budget for a calibrator. A good entry-level is the Spyder4 Express (about $100). You can upgrade later as your needs grow.

  • Nikon D550 Lightroom 5.7.1 and will still not read NEF format

Both 12-bit and 14-bit RAW will still not read in updated Lightroom 5.7.1.  DNG Converter also will not recognize NEF files on camera.  Nothing worse than a new camera and not being able to import the pictures.  Can anyone help? Please......

It's not supported yet but should be soon. You can get interim support by downloading the latest dng converter (8.8) free from adobe and converting the NEFs to dng. Those will work in Lightroom. See which cameras are supported here: Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras

  • Nikon D90 Updates for Lightroom 1.4 & Photoshop CS3

Does anyone know when Adobe will provide updates to read Nikon D90 Camera Raw files for Lightroom 1.4 & Photoshop CS3? Based on what I have heard from the Nikon forum Lightroom & Photoshop cannot read the D90 raw files. I was planning on upgrading my camera, but there is no point if I can't read the files.
    Thanks,
    Bevan

OK, let me see if I'm following along here:
The D90 produces an new kind of NEF file, different even from the D3 or D300 on which the D90 is (more or less?) based?
We will have to wait patiently for Adobe to create an update for both ACR and LR2, which should happen within 60-90 days (allowing for 4 times/yr). Could be as soon as October, since Photokina is at the end of September.
OK, my D80 still works great in the meantime.
Where I am getting a tad confused though is re: the "DNG" conversion. I understand that is a universal "digital negative" format supported by Adobe, and that NEF files from Nikon DLSRs can be converted to DNG -- that's an option when importing into Lightroom.
But, if Lightroom can't read a D90 NEF file, how can it convert it to a DNG?
    Thanks,

  • Hi, I have Lightroom 4, but it does not support the new 10-30 pd lens for my Nikon 1. It is supported in LR5. Can I download this lens profile and install in LR4?

Hi, I have Lightroom 4, but it does not support the new 10-30 pd lens for my Nikon 1. It is supported in LR5. Can I download this lens profile and install in LR4?

Do you have the latest camera raw installed for Photoshop? If so, you can find the profiles in /Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/CameraRaw/LensProfiles/1.0/Nikon/ . Lightroom should recognize them if you move them into your home directory's Library folder in the exact same folder structure (but in the Library folder in your home directory). This is assuming you are using Mac OS X. No clue where these files would be on Windows. If you don't have Photoshop, you can install Camera Raw using the combined installer with DNG converter which is a free download from Adobe. This should (I think) give you the profiles in that exact location without owning Photoshop.

LR 5.6 doesn't support the new Nikon D750. You have to wait to the next update.
You con also install the release candidate of the DNG converter and convert your NEF files to dng.

  • HowTo: identify readonly/locked files in LightRoom

    Dear community member.
If you are like me, you will sometimes mark (Nikon calls it "locking" - at the file system level the image is simply flagged as read-only) a photograph in the field.  The idea being that:
you don't want to accidentally delete a great photograph from the camera, and
marking the photograph makes it easy to identify the real-winners in post production.
As far as I can tell, there is no straightforward way of asking Lightroom:
"only show me the photographs that have been marked read-only", or
"please label the read-only files red"
I thought this would be a relatively straightforward task, but for the life of me I can't find out a simply way of doing this.  Have I missed something, or is this simply not supported by Lightroom?
Any guidance you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
    ADDITIONAL CONTEXT
    Nikon D7100
    Lightroom 4.4
I copy my photographs from the memory card to the hard disk using a memory card reader.  The files are then "added" to Lightroom, thus keeping the readonly file attribute.

You're right: Lightroom does not support this feature, and so it requires a script or plugin.
Perhaps the best way is to use a simple script (not a plugin) I wrote - it's free:
    Script name: 'Select Read-Only Photos'

PS - I think John Beardsworth also has something that will do it.

  • Nikon d810

I have the nikon d810 Lightroom 5. I can't download to lightroom. I have viewNX2 and still can't get the pictures into LR

  • LR4.1 and Nikon D4 tethered shooting

I use LR 4.1 and shoot with a Nikon D4. Lightroom does not recognize the camera (D4), whereas Sofortbild (amother ththered shooting software) does not have an issue. How does it work on LR4?

I did my first shoot with Capture One Pro 6 yesterday and shot over a 1000 frames in six hours with not so much as an issue at all.  While I could not do a direct comparison with LR it seemed substantially faster than LR was with my D3s.  It also never had the need for a single restart of any kind.  Now I don't know much about using the program so I stumbled around abit looking for how to put files where I wanted them (never mastered that it put them in it's idea of a Capture location) but it did name the files as I asked and worked flawless in supporting dual monitors as well during the shoot.
I wish LR was as clean to use so I would not be capturing here and then putting the work into LR for the rest of my processing.

  • Nikon D600 Raw File compatibility

When will LR4 be compatible with the new Nikon D600 raw files? I have LR4 now with CR 7.1 and it cannot read D600 raw files.

Jao vdL I do not need to re-read Brett's post.   Michael Garnett asked how to convert his D600 NEF files to TIFF images, and I helped him with that.
However, Lightroom 4.2 is still not the complete answer to native D600 NEF files, please read:-
    http://www.thephoblographer.com/2012/10/03/lightroom-4-2-is-out-now-with-preliminary-suppo rt-for-the-nikon-d600/
Lightroom 4.2 has only preliminary support at the moment and the statement marked with an asterisk i.e :-
    * Please note that the support for Nikon D600 is preliminary and there is a minor risk that the appearance of your images may change when the final support for Nikon D600 is available in an upcoming release.
Nikon D600 owners are still waiting for the final release from Adobe for full and complete D600 NEF file support.

  • Hi, Please help. I accidentally deleted my entire Iphoto Library. I used Stellar Phoenix 4.1 and I do believe that I recovered all. I recovered to "My Passport" for Mac External HD. Files are all mixed up, best way to import back?

Hi, a couple days ago, I was orgainizing my Iphoto libray. Then, I thought that I was emptying my trash on Iphoto. (the ones I deleted when orgainizing) after hitting are you sure button, I realized that it was 209 files with 18,000+ photos. So I frantically stopped iphoto from "saving critical information" thinking If I left it open I could copy all my files over to (I beleive somewhere in finder under pictures?) I thought, but it most have been under the applications folder. Well this is where I really messed up. So after saving every file to that section, and everything was normal again on iphoto, I decided to make space and delete them from where I put them. So instead of selecting each file indivually, I used the select ALL button. Only to find that it deleted EVERYTHING. Iphoto (the file) was apparently at the bottom of the page along with Nikon Transfer, Lightroom 2 and god knows what else. That is when I found a data recovery software program (Stellar Phoenix 4.1mac) 17 hours later it found 159GB. I read enough to know that I HAD to go and buy an external HD. (even though I already own Time Capsule, but I never hooked it up ) was confused about if I could actually use that for this matter so, I just went and bought My Passport an external HD for Mac. Plugged it in, and recovered what looks like all my files (hopefully) did also read enough that I knew NOT to use my computer after this occured.
Now that you all know how I got into this mess, I would like to know the best way to import the files back? Ok I know this sounds easy, but all the files are scattered everywhere on the HD. Is there a way to put them back on my Mac Book Pro that would possibly put them in some kind of order? Date? Image file number? Anything? 18,000 photos to reorgainze is going to be brutal. I can reinstall Lightroom 2, if i can locate where I put the disk. And I also have CS5. Also wondering if the quality of the photo was affected?  I did get them back, so I am not complaining but any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Will be turning on Time Machine and hooking up Time Capsule as well. Should I also use my new HD along with capsule? Any advice on that matter would also be greatly appreciated as well!!!!!
    Thanks, Michelle
