  • Purchased new camera nikon d7100 and camera raw will not open any nef files, talked to tech support and they assured me an update would fix issue, did update and have  same issue still

I have photoshop cs5 and after purchasing a nikon d7100, photoshop will not open any of the nef files like it did with my nikon d90, I contacted support and they assured me after update that issue would be resolved...still not resolved, any suggestions?

    Good day!
Please check this list to see which version of ACR supports the camera:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Then please check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
As you should see your version is not up to the task.
You can either buy a license for a more current version of Photoshop (CS6 is still available) or switch to the … Cloud License model or use the free DNG Converter.

  • I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.

I re-downloaded my Photoshop recently and Adobe Bridge no longer displays my Nikon NEF files and Camera Raw will not open them.  I get a message saying that Camera Raw does not support my camera type but it always has in the past.  The bridge no longer shows the picture view of my NEF files.  These are Nikon NEF files from the Nikon 5100 DSLR camera.  How do I fix this?

When you re-installed Photoshop, you also re-installed the version of Camera Raw which shipped with Photoshop - in other words you reverted to an older version of Camera Raw which does not support the D5100.

  • HELP!!??? Trouble with PS CS-6 displaying/ producing grainy and pixelated images after being imported using PS Bridge and Camera-Raw 8.5

Help!??? I am having trouble with PS CS-6 displaying/ producing/ saving grainy pictures when import NEF files!!!
    Hi all,
When I import all NEF or RAW files into CS6 from Bridge and Camera Raw from the Nikon D200 and D5000, they become grainy/ pixelated.  However, RAW files from the D800 did not have problem. I set the Color Space in my Nikons to AdobeRGB, in PS Camera Raw 8.5 to AdobeRGB, in PS CS-6 ColorSpace to AdobeRGB, and Save As Jpeg with Max quality (12). When comparing between CS-6 produced file and the original, I can see a big drop in quality and the picture become grainy and pixelated. What can I do to make this right? Any help/ suggestion is appreciated.
    Thank you!
    HN

Can you show us a screen-shot of the raw in Camera Raw that shows this noise, or if you only see it in the saved JPG, then show us a side-by-side of the raw in Camera Raw and the JPG?  Show the same area of the photo and zoom to 100%.
It is normal for raw photos to have grain but you can mostly remove it with the Luminance Noise-Reduction sliders in the Detail tab of Camera Raw.
The amount of grain depends on the ISO sensitivity setting on the camera.

My Photoshop says it is up to date, but I am hoping that since this camera just came out, Adobe will have an raw file update soon.

DNG Converter is FREE.  Yes, really.  No subscription needed.
    - Baloney, NOT FREE, it's a proprietary software, not open AT ALL, see Legal Notices, so stop trying to distort the truth here.
Camera Raw (& DNG Converter) 8.7RC has been available since 2nd October, and opens D750 files in Photoshop & Bridge (& Lightroom using DNG Converter).
Adobe Photoshop Camera Raw 8.7 Release Candidate | digital camera raw file support - Adobe Labs
    - Still a cumbersome process for this of us that PAID for software and support, the whole point of this discussion is to implement this directly on LR, so we, the PAYING users don't have to waste time doing a useless process that could be EASILY AVOIDED ig Adobe released updates as they are needed, or if they OPENED THE SOURCE CODE so the community could do it.
Adobe created DNG, which is a well-documented backwards-compatible format, which is free for any manufacturer to use.
See here for manufacturers who do (it's an old list, but you get the idea):
    http://www.barrypearson.co.uk/articles/dng/products_cameras.htm
    - Really? Did you actually read the site? It has PRECIOUS information that illustrate my point: Adobe DNG is an attempt to stop the OpenSource community from achieving the goals of OpenRaw, which is TRUE OPENNESS, Again, Adobe is trying to get manufacturers to PAY LICENSING so they use a PROPRIETARY FORMAT that will HOLD CUSTOMERS on a PAID platform. OpenRaw is he answer for a true competitive environment.
Ask yourself why other manufacturers don't use a documented backwards-compatible format.
    - Easy, because they are lazy and want kick-back. The SAME answer that I (and the entire OS community) would give if you asked about Acrobat or MS Office.
If you use a particular piece of software as your main tool, and you buy a camera which isn't yet supported by it, it's your problem. There is an expression used in the industry:
"Poor Planning on your part does not constitute an Emergency on my part."
    - I agree here, it's MY PROBLEM that I decided to have a better product, it was my choice. I can still use OS Tools, which will be what I do moving forward, and about that expression, that is EXACTLY why Adobe will keep loosing customers, because the sense of urgency to help who pays their bills is inexistent. You are correct, why should they rush something so simple to help a customer right? Screw the customer... Thanks for making my point...

  • Nikon D5200 and raw files

I recently purchased a Nikon D5200 and I could not open the raw files in Elements 9.  I downloaded all updates for Camera Raw and it still did not work.  I found a question/answer with the same problem and it recommended updating the DNG Converter or purchasing Elements 11.  I did both and I still get a message that my camera model is not supported by the Camera Raw version I have.  I verified per the website it is supported.  Why can't I open my files?

My guess is even though you upgraded to the latest version of Elements you haven't updated to the latest version of ACR, the Adobe website lists ACR 7.3 is required for the D5200.

You're welcome!  It's usually CS5 and below that has the ACR update problems.

  • Mac computer: New Nikon d300s, CS3, and Camera Raw

I just purchased a Nikon d300s. I had a Nikon d50, Mac, iPhoto, CS3, and Camera Raw 4.6.0.30. With Nikon d50,  no problem opening an image from iPhoto into Camera Raw/CS3. With the new D300s, the image opens into CS3 but does not open into Camera Raw. Do I have to buy CS4?

No, you do not have to. You can alternatively use the DNG Converter, which will process your D300S NEF files into DNG files, which can then be opened in CR 4.6 in CS3. The latest version of the DNG Converter, which supports the D300S, is currently in Release Candidate phase and is available here:

Sorry, I am on a MAC. I downloaded the link you provided and it's giving the same error message as above. Running CS5.
The error message you gave is from Camera Raw. I thought you said that DNG Converter didn't work?
The link I gave you is an article on getting your raw files to open in Camera Raw. Did you read it? I lazily gave you the link because this is one of the most common problems in this forum, and I get tired of saying the same thing over and over again. I could break it down for your specific case, but I was hoping you could read through the article and work it out for yourself.
    But, here goes:
Your cameras are newer than your raw converter, so it won't understand them.
CS5 comes with Camera Raw 6, which can only be upgraded as far as 6.7.1. You can find out which version of Camera Raw you are running in three ways: in the settings title bar (Cmd-K), in the plug-in title bar (press F to start/stop full-screen mode to reveal the title bar), or Photoshop's Help menu (About Plug-ins).
Downloading raw files from newer Nikon cameras with old versions of Nikon Transfer will actually make them unreadable in Adobe software. They can be fixed with a free utility. Again, it's all in the linked article. You should be using up-to-date Nikon Transfer, or Adobe Photodownloader to avoid this problem.
All being well, you have good raw files on your computer. You can convert them to dng using Adobe DNG Converter. IF you are on OSX Leopard or Snow Leopard, you CAN'T use the latest version, because Adobe stopped support. But, if you ARE on a later OSX, you can download DNG Converter 8.6.
DNG Converter is designed to convert FOLDERS of raw files at a time. You select a folder of raw files, and tell it to create DNG copies. BUT, you have to set up the converter before you start using it...
If you load up DNG Converter, you'll notice a button labelled "Change Preferences". Clicking this, you'll see the first option is "Compatibility". Here, you must select the appropriate setting for the version of Camera Raw you HAVE (see above). If you can't work this out, just pick "Camera Raw 5.4 and later". THEN pick a folder of raw files and convert them to DNGs.
All the above is already in the article, but I gave you a personalised response. If you still can't get it to work, please give us more than one sentence. Tell us exactly what you tried, and describe exactly what happened. Which version of OSX you're running, what device and software you downloaded your raw files with, how you used DNG Converter, and so on.
I really should be in bed.

  • DNGs produced from Hasselblad .fff files display a different image in Bridge and Camera Raw

Lately, not sure when this started exactly, Bridge CC (and Camera RAW 8.7) are displaying incorrect DNG images!  Instead of showing the image I expect to see, I'll see an old image from days ago.  This seems to carry on from Bridge through to Camera RAW.  But then if I continue on to Photoshop with the image, it'll finally show the correct image.
I'm assuming this has something to do with DNG, because if I load another raw file type (like .fff or .NEF), it seems ok.  Also it seems to be ok with DNGs produced from other cameras like Nikon D90.
    My set up:
    - Mac OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
    - Bridge CC
    - Camera Raw 8.7
    - Photoshop CC 2014
    - Hasselblad H4D-50

HI, I managed to fix the trouble by reinsatalling once again and running updates BEFORE opening bridge. It seemed that if I ran the update AFTER opening bridge I would get either an up to date status when checking for updates or I would get an install failure notice on all 4 updates that were trying to install. The updates were for camera raw, bridge and PS. I can't explain why but that helped a little. I also changed permissions on my whole user accnt to include read/write for all users. I can't say if this helped or not. I also had to go into my camera B/U files on a sepate HD and replace some of the CR folders I was using o nthe desktop. Still the CR files would not show a thumb nor a preview till I then went to each individual file inside that folder and purged the cashe for that file so it could repopulate the cashe yet again. This has been the strangest few days in PSCS6 history! Well my personal history. I will report back here if more quirks emerge. I would prefer quarks though....aloha, U

  • What is the optimum core configuration for a new Mac Pro to process and manipulate very large (80 megapixel) images using PhotoShop and Camera Raw?

    Hello:
I will be using creative techniques to process and manipulate a large number (hundreds) of very large (80 megapixel) images captured using a medium format digital back (Phase One IQ180).
Final output will be digital fine art imagery printed using an Epson 11880 at large sizes (up to 60 inches x ?), retaining the highest possible quality and resolution. I will be using Adobe CC PhotoShop and Camera RAW as well as Capture One software. PhotoShop filters will be used extensively.
The Mac Pro needs to be optimized for the above purpose and be useful for at least five years. I plan to max out all the other options (RAM, graphics cards, storage). Performance is more important than cost.
The few discussions I have found that mention optimum core configurations seem to lean toward 6 or 8 (but likely are not taking into consideration my need for manipulating a large number of very large files), so I am looking to this foum for opinions.
    Thank you,
    Kent

  • File appearence not the same in PS CS4, LR2 and Camera RAW

I've just noticed that files as displayed in Lightroom 2 or in Camera RAW, when opened in Photoshop CS4 have a different appearence. In Photoshop the file appears much flatter and with considerably less saturation and dynamic range. When you compare the files beside each other in RAW and in Lightroom, they look the same. I have tried exporting the files to Photoshop from Lightroom using the "open with Lightroom Edits" and Edit a Copy and Edit the original, but the results are the same. After editing a photo in Photoshop and saving it back into Lightroom, the photo appears very saturated in the Lightroom or in Camera RAW. I don't know how long this has been this way, but now that I hace noticed it, it is driving me nuts.
    Thanks for your help
    Steve

Christopher thank you so much for responding and you have pinpointed the problem. The problem was the color settings. Color settings were set to sRGB and when I changed it to ProPhoto RGB Photoshop rendered file as it appears in the files in Lightroom and Camera RAW. I shoot in ProPhotoRGB and that seems to be why the images looked so flat when imported using sRGB.
Thanks for taking the time to help
