Nikon D5200 and raw files

I recently purchased a Nikon D5200 and I could not open the raw files in Elements 9.  I downloaded all updates for Camera Raw and it still did not work.  I found a question/answer with the same problem and it recommended updating the DNG Converter or purchasing Elements 11.  I did both and I still get a message that my camera model is not supported by the Camera Raw version I have.  I verified per the website it is supported.  Why can't I open my files?

My guess is even though you upgraded to the latest version of Elements you haven't updated to the latest version of ACR, the Adobe website lists ACR 7.3 is required for the D5200.

  • Nikon d200 and RAW files look weird

I just got a mac mini today with the latest iphoto and os x 10.4.7 with iphoto 6.0.4 (305). I got this computer specifically for this camera and my photography because I was having so much trouble with windows and people told me that mac is better.
The Nikon D200 RAW(NEF) files load fine, but after a few seconds they become strange looking and I cannot understand why this is happening. I don't have to do anything other than open the file for this too happen. It comes in, looks normal for a seconds, and then, POOF it looks all strange.
Someone PLEASE help me I am desperate!!!

Can you be more specific. Are the colors incorrect or are there artifacts on the photo. What exactly is wrong with the images?

New Nikon Df camera RAW files not recognized in Bridge and Photoshop.  Is there a fix?  Surely Adobe make a mistake and not keep up with Nikon.

I looked at the current list http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html and did not see the Nikon DF listed.
Would post in ACR forum and see if they know anything more.  http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw

  • Nikon 1 S1 RAW Files and Elements 9

My current Elements 9 does not support my Nikon 1 S1 RAW files - will I need a new Elements or is there a RAW update that will support this new camera?

That needs Camera RAW 7.4, for which you require PSE11 or PSE12. Otherwise you need to download the Adobe DNG Converter (Google it) and convert the files to DNG files - which your PSE9 will be able to read.

  • RC 8.6 Issues with Nikon D810 NEF RAW files

RC 8.6 does not correctly process Nikon D810 NEF RAW files. See the following blog article for some details:
Nikon D810 vs D800E ISO Comparison

This is very helpful. My current workflow, until ACR 8.6 and LR fully support the Nikon D810, are to use the DNG converter and import the resulting D810 DNG files into my LR catalog.
I have not yet tried this (traveling right now), but I assume I can still make a custom profile using the X-Rite ColorChecker Passport and it's associated software for my D810 using the RC 8.6 DNG files. This is my normal workflow for all of my other cameras in LR, but the process is direct from native RAW and not DNG (to produce the custom profile).

Until Lightroom gets D810 support, you will need to use the ACR plugin in order to see the profiles. The DNG Converter always uses Adobe Standard, and embeds it into the DNG. Lightroom 5.5 doesn't have the D810 profiles.

  • Why does photoshop 12 editor open my Nikon D90 Camera RAW files only as jpegs???

Why does photoshop 12 editor open my Nikon D90 Camera RAW files only as jpegs???

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
What makes you think that the raw files are being opened as JPGs?
Do you shoot RAW+JPG and opening the JPG files bt mistake?
If you are opening a RAW (NEF) file and it doesn't show the Camera Raw screen but goes straight into the editor then it may be that your screen resolution is too low.
    What is your screen resolution?

  • CS5 Bridge does not recognise Nikon D 800 Raw Files

I have Photoshop CS5 Version 12.0 (x64). Photoshop recognises Nikon D 800 Raw files BUT
Bridge does not. I have tried updates but my Apple Mac Pro does not recognise them

That would mean that you have the ACR plug-in version 6.7 or 7.1 in the wrong place.
You can only have one version of ACR anywhere in your installation.  If you have two, it won't work.  Look for the version(s) you have installed in Photoshop under the Photoshop menu > About Plug-In:
Your camera has been supported ever since ACR 6.7 and CS5 can run ACR 7.1 (but not any higher version of ACR).
The only correct path for the plug-in in CS5 is as follows:
Very wide image: click on thumbnail for larger view.
NOTE that the path starts with the ROOT LEVEL Library, the one right after the name of your boot drive, not your user or Home Library.
The screen shot is from an installation under Snow Leopard, where I had CS5.

It's not a "wrong" error message - it's true, as far as it goes, and it's completely unrealistic to expect error messages to be fully diagnostic - they're a starting point.
    Not wrong?
Let us have a look at the error message:
"The following files were not imported because they could not be read"
This clearly gives the user the impression that there is a reading error where you want to copy the files from. Is that the actual error?
No, the actual error is that the file could not be written at the destination.
It is possible that it is not factually wrong because Lightroom first make a failed copying attempt without giving an error message, then still assumes that the files have been copied and tries to import them, and THEN makes a failed import attempt from the destination and gives the error message. But that would never be anyone's first guess when they experience that error message.
A much better error message would be: "The following files were not imported because they could not be copied to the destination folder."

  • Nikon D600 NEF/RAW files/DNG 8.4 still cannot read

Hi all, I just tried installing several versions of the DNG plug in for CS6 and it still cannot read the Nikon D600 NEF/RAW files on a 2014 MacBook Pro.  Any suggestions?  I have searched previous questions, but cannot find one on this very topic.  Cheers, Paul.

What version of Photoshop do you have installed. If you have CS6 make sure you use CS6 menu Help>Updates. To make sure you have the latest updates.  If you have CS6 preternatural you should see version 13.0.6 when you use menu Help>About Photoshop if you hace a Creative cloud subscription you should see version 13.1.2 using menu Help>About Photoshop.
If ACR 8.6 is installed correctly it installs in a common place that is used by both Bridge CS6 and Photoshop CS6.
When you open a RAW file in Phoroshop or in ACR from the Bridge the ACR dialog should open and in its title bar you should see version 8.6.   You should not need to create DNG RAW file for your  NEF RAW files just to used ACR.  You only need to do that if your using an older Photoshop version and an older ACR. version that does not support your Nikon Camera NEF RAW format.
If you have CS6 and the ACR title bar does not show 8.6 you do not have all the CS6 updates installed.  If menu Help>Updates doe not install ACR 8.6 try downloading it manually from the CC updates site and see if the manual update works All the Adobe CC Updates: The Direct Download Links for Mac OS | ProDesignTools

  • Nikon D-5200 Raw Files

I recently purchased a Nikon D-5200 DSLR. I found that Photoshop Elements 10 & 11 will not poen the raw files. I can't find a patch that I am able to download to fix the problem.
Is there anyone that can help me with the problem, or suggest another photo editing product besides Photoshop that will open the files.

At this time I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 10. I haven't been able to find an update for Camera Raw Files. I have saw that others that have Photoshop Elements 11 could not open raw files.
What ssprengel says is spot on.
You need the very latest version of Camera Raw (7.3) to be able to open the D5200's raw files directly. I don't know much about Photoshop Elements, but looking at the updates page, it appears that you need version 11 to be able to use this latest update, although it's difficult to say now that Adobe has stopped providing downloads.
If you don't want to upgrade to the latest version, you can always make use of the free DNG Converter 7.3 download from Adobe, which will duplicate your D5200 raw files as open standard DNG files, which can be read by your software without an update. It's an extra step, but it's free. It's a shame that Nikon doesn't provide DNG as a file format option on its cameras.

  • Nikon D5200 and old LR versions?

I have purchased the Nikon D5200 and want to use Lightroom to edit my images. Will the older versions of Lightroom have the built in presets to cope with the distortion that is often seen at the wider angles with the Nikon? If not, what is the oldest version that I can get? Thanks

Lr4.3 will read the files... but why not just get the latest Lr5.2??
Yes, lens correction will be applied for most lenses.
You will need to check the lens or lenses you have against the listings on the Adobe site but most commone Nikon leses have profiles.

  • JPG and RAW files are not grouped together.

I am finding that my RAW and JPG files are not grouped together.  They show up on the Grid View as JPG for the JPG file and RAW + JPG for the NEF(RAW) file.  This does not seem to be consistent through out the folder.  Some of the pictures are grouped together and others are not.  The ones that are not grouped together have been auto-stacked and then unstacked.  I am not sure if this is what caused the seperation of JPG and RAW files.  I did try to take a picture that I had auto-stacked it  and then remove it and it did not sepearate.  The "Treat JPG files next to raw files as seperate photos" option is turned off, like it is in my Lightroom 3.

This is what I'm talking about:
    Show subfolders are on:
    In windows Explorer:
    In the Import Dialog:
    Where are the files?
If I click on the Folder 2014_12_14... all the files from all folders will populate.

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.
