Nikon D5300 RAW not handled by Aparture v.3.4.5

On my trusted Mac Pro, MacPro1, 1 with Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63) (later OS-versione not accepted) with Aparture v. 3.4.5, I get "Unsupported image format" after importing files from my new Nikon D5300. In Apple's list over handled RAW formats D5300 have 3 ***, indecating the need for Aperture v. 3.4 or later, which I have (barely). Ideas anyone?

Have you installed the Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.02*  ? That introduces the Raw support for your camera, see this list:  OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats
This RAW support requires Aperture 3.4.5. or iPhoto 9.4.3
You can download this update here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1713
Bit this update requires at least Mt. Lion, so you will have problem to install it with Lion.

Does camera raw support the Nikon D5300, if not when there will be an update for this camera model?

The asterisk next the model number on the download page linked above means there is preliminary support, which usually means the camera is supported by pretending it is an earlier model with similar sensor.  This can lead to color issues, so while you can convert your NEFs to DNGs with the DNG Converter, and open them with PSE12, now, save your NEFs and be prepared to revisit those pictures once the final release of ACR 8.3 occurs probably in the next few weeks, with finalized support.

  • How to open Nikon D5300 Raw files in PSE 11? [was:Help Please]

There isn't a generic nikon raw. Each camera has its own raw format and the camera raw plugin has to be updated every time a new camera comes out. The D5300 requires ACR 8.3, which is only compatible with PSE 12. So you have three options:
    1. Upgrade to PSE 12.
    2. Use the nikon software to convert the files and send the converted images to PSE for any further editing.
    3. Download the free Adobe DNG converter and use that to create dng files that your version of camera raw can understand.

  • NEF RAW files from my Nikon D5300 will not open in Photoshop CS3

Is there a plug-in or update I can download that will make it possible for my Photoshop CS3 to open NEF files in RAW.
I noticed a similar discussion a couple of years ago and I followed the advice and as far as I can tell I have the most up-to-date version of my software, and the Camera Raw plug-in is Version 4.6.0.30
I also have the same problem using CS5. Both versions say they cannot recognize the file type. Can I use a converter to make them a different kind of RAW file, but still a RAW format? I would prefer to simply be able to open them in Photoshop for editing.
Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.
    Barb

I just checked the compatibility list again, and the D5300 requires Camera Raw 8.3 (Not 7.3) or Lightroom 5.3. You have Lightroom 5, but what exact version of Lightroom 5 do you have? It might require that you update your Camera Raw and your Lightroom in order to have support in both Photoshop and Lightroom.
You can check your version of Camera Raw by going to the help menu in Photoshop, then about plug-ins and then Camera Raw. The dialog that appears will indicate what version of Camera Raw you have installed. It should not be necessary for you to use the DNG converter unless you feel compelled to.

  • Is the Nikon D5300 raw format supported in Elements 12?

I purchased a D5300 and I am not able to open RAW format photos.  I want to know if Elements 12 will open them.

According to Adobe’s Supported Camera’s list, you need ACR 8.3:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
According to Adobe’s ACR App Compatibility list, PSE12 ships with ACR 8.1 and can be updated to ACR 8.3 although the list does not include ACR 8.4 which is the current version of plug-in, perhaps because ACR 8.4 is only compatible with Windows 7+ and OSX 10.7.5+, which is newer than the minimum requirements of some of the applications that host it:

  • Nikon D7000 RAW not recognized-invalid file ?

I then tried to run Up Date 3.0 Alert you must have 3.0 or Later.
What is going on here ?
I am a working pro and I am very disappointed what Aperture 3 is doing.
I have written positive articles about Aperture. Looks like I will now have egg on my face.
I need some response from Apple -now.

    Hi Frank,
I have a D7000 and experienced the same issue in the beginning with regards to unreadable RAW files, downloaded and patched the Update 3.5 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1339) and everything now works fine... Sorry that I don't have a solution for you, but I just wanted to let you know that the patch does work and D7000 RAW files are fully readable by Aperture. If you are indeed all updated with regards to your system OS and Aperture, then I would try and directly contact Customer Support. Good luck.

  • When can we expect Elements to support Nikon D750 raw files

When can we expect Elements to support Nikon D750 raw files?   What are my options in the interim.  I noted that some had used a program, EXIFChanger, to edit their D750 raw files,  with a name change,  to Nikon D5300 raw files.  Unfortunately that program runs on a MAC platform only and I have Windows computers.

See that discussion in the Adobe Camera Raw forum:

  • Iphoto doesn't recognize my Nikon D5300

My new Nikon D5300 will not be recognized by Iphoto (9.5.1). There is no problem with the System Profiler USB (Nikon D5300) and Digital Images (D5300).
When I connected my old camera Sony Alpha to the Mac, Iphoto will automatically open and it asked me for import of the photos.
With my new Nikon nothing happens.
    Havy anyone a solution?

Does Image Capture (in your APplications folder) see it?

  • Nikon D5300 images overexposed on import

When importing RAW images from my Nikon D5300 into Aperture they are all well overexposed.
The images are perfectly exposed in JPEG format and on camera playback.
I have installed all available updates, in particular Digital Camera RAW update 5.02 for the D5300 to no avail.
    Same problem occurs in iPhoto.
Is this just a bug and I have to wait for a fix?

  • Unable to open raw files in lightroom from my nikon d5300

I have recently bought a nikon d5300 camera and cannot open any raw files using elements 12 or lightroom 5.3 which are both recommended for the new camera and its raw formats?

What exactly do you mean, please describe in detail, "cannot open any raw files". What steps are you trying in Lightroom, and what happens when you try those steps in Lightroom, and what is the error message.
Did you use any Nikon software at any time in the handling of these photos, before you try to open them in Photoshop Elements, or import them into Lightroom?

  • Why Won't my Raw files from my Nikon D5300 open in CS4?

I recently got a new Nikon D5300 and shot in raw for the first time today.  When I tried to view the images with photoshop CS4, a pop up window appeared stating that photoshop does not recognize that type of file, and therefore cannot be opened. Is this a compatibility issue of photoshop vs. camera files or something else?  As a portrait photographer I shoot in RAW 90% of the time so I'm very desperate to get this resolved.

Yes, it's the never-ending struggle of software keeping up with hardware (cameras) and the eternal compatibility issues between them. Forces users into a never ending upgrade cycle to keep up.
Camera manufacturers use proprietary Raw files which are specific to each and every camera they make. Every camera is different. So Adobe has to retrospectively add support to the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plugin for each Raw file format on a camera by camera basis after the camera has been released to market.
The D5300 was first supported in Camera Raw 8.3

  • Camera raw update in cs5 for nikon d5300

Hi can anyone tell me how to update my camera raw so that I can use my nikon d5300 with cs5.  I have looked everywhere and can not find the update for it and there is no way I can afford to update photoshop just to update raw.

  • RAW Format for Nikon D5300 on Elements 3

I am running Elements 3.  I just got a Nikon D5300 and shoot in RAW (NEF) format.  Elements 3 does not display the thumbnails/pictures when I try to import into Elements.  I did not have this problem with RAW shot on my Nikon D70.

Every new camera model must be supported individually, and the D5300 just came out, so it has only started to be supported with the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in 8.3, which is compatible PSE12.
Besides upgrading to PSE12 (and perhaps your OS and computer if the minimum system requirements are newer than what you have), you may be able to use the free DNG Converter 8.3 to create DNG copies of your D5300 NEFs, and those should open in the ancient ACR plug-in you are using with PSE3 as long as you set the compatibility options old enough so they are at least as old as whatever ACR version PSE3 uses.
