Nikon D700 NEF on iPhoto 09

I am running Snow Leopard and iLife 09.
I was able to import all the pictures, but for some reason I can't edit any of the images. The metadata is picked up for the most part, but none of the editing functions work. For instance when I crop an image, it will revert back to the original file as soon as I click on apply. The color editing tool does not even show the histogram and therefore the sliders will not change anything.
I have other pictures taken with a Nikon D90 in NEF and it works fine.
Is the D700 partially supported? Could the file size be a problem? (the NEFs on the D700 are more than 12MB while the D90 is less than 10MB)

1 - Restart your computer
2 - If that does not help then Quit iPhoto and delete the iPhoto preference file - "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist -- launch iPhoto and reset any user preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it
3 - If this does not resolve the problem backup up and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) and command (apple) keys and rebuild from the last automatic database backup

  • Raw Images (Nikon D700 NEFs) suddenly turn unsupported

    Hi there,
for some of my managed Nikon D700 NEFs I start geeting an 'unsupported image format' error. I worked with those files a couple of months ago and everything was fine, no errors. So, the problem must have came up recently. The files wont show up in Preview neither but open fine in Capture NX2 which brings me to the assumption, that it is an OS X raw compatability issue.
I browsed through the related discussions but couldn't find a way that resolved the problem. What puzzles me is the fact, that obviously only few people are experiencing similar issues. I'm afraid, that something might be "broken" in my system installation. To double check this I would like to provide one of my unrecognized NEF files:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/1sx5bsr794xvbmj/_DSC7035.NEF
If this file works for you, it's not an Aperture issue, but a single problem on my (few) machine(s). The answer to this would be of great help in finding the right fix. Any feedback is highly appreciated! Thanks!

    OS X 10.8.2 (12C60)
    Aperture 3.4.3

    Thanks Leonie, Thanks Jerry.
    Leonie,
I flipped through my library. It seems that the problem started first with pics, I imported March 2011. Prior imports look fine. (Interestingly it started right after an air trip. But if the security scans somehow damaged my cards and subsequently the pics, why would you be able to open them...? )
I can't find anything which could be special about the relevant files: In fact I sometimes shot a series of pics of the same subject in a row. Some work, some are unsupported. The filenames I didn't change (standard out of camera format "_DSC####.NEF", file system is Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) btw.).
I tried all of the 3 troubleshooting steps of Aperture several times. I tried repairing permissions for the whole drive. I also tried importing directly from camera besides using a card reader, both, into existing and new libraries. Importing pics from iPhone and an old Lumix is ok (but these are not raw...).
I will try a different user account and report back.
Many thanks again to all for your help.

  • Can I open a Nikon D700 NEF file in CS3? If so, how?

Can I open a Nikon D700 NEF file in CS3? If so, how?

Yes, you can.  You just need to update your Camera Raw plug-in to version 4.6, which is the last version to run with CS3.

  • Support for Nikon D700 NEF (RAW)

I will admit that I am new to Photoshop CS3 and this is my first posting.
I have a Nikon D700 and would like to use NEF files for a lot of obvious reasons and I do believe that there is a new reader in the making. My question is does anyone know when this is going to be made available? I can use Nikons View NX and NX2 for awhile but would like to utilize Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 ASAP.
    Regards,
    Wallace

    >Preliminary, "unofficial" support for any given camera is not meant to be obvious.
Yes, I think if Adobe support for a camera is official, then they would have to support the camera to their typical high standard. If there has not been time for adequate testing, and support is unofficial then you use the software
as is and can't complain if something goes wrong.

  • Nikon D700 NEF Support

    Hi,
We have some of the New Nikon D700's that will be going out into the field possibly as soon as next week. Any idea on when you will be releasing NEF support for ACR and LightRoom?
    Thank you!

    Adam JR,
In my opinion, you still are not thinking clearly. Yes, you have the latest and greatest (in your opinion) camera. But until you have software available to support that camera you're just going to have to wait like everyone else does who buys something the minute it hits the marketplace. You have to wait for software support. Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and all the other camera makers couldn't care less about Adobe and Camera Raw support. They don't provide Adobe with any advance copies of their file formats.
Since Adobe is still working on providing support for your new camera, you're just going to have to wait. You want it right when it comes out don't you? Do you think Adobe is just sitting on their hands so they can watch you and others complain because they don't have support? Cool it! Support will be provided when the development team is satisfied they can provide it the way it should be provided.

  • Can't import RAW files into iPhoto 6 Library from Nikon D700

For whatever reason I am unable to import RAW files from my Nikon D700 into my iPhoto 6 (version 6.0.6) Library. I can import JPEGs from the D700, but it's no-go with the RAW files. When I attempt to import the RAW files I get the following message:
    "Unreadable Files
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
Can anybody solve this mystery for me?
    Bob

I presume that the economically-priced Mac Box Set containing OS X 10.5.6 Leopard, iLife '09, and iWork '09 would be the way to go. Do you concur?
Well that's the cheapest way to do it. You could, of course, buy a new Mac
Do you feel that my 20" Intel iMac--details listed below--would have any problems handling the upgraded programs?
It will have no problems with the updated OS or applications.
'm uneasy at the thought of upgrading my operating system, but I presume that chances of running into problems are much less than if I were upgrading a Windows OS. In case a problem arises my entire hard drive is backed up with a 1T external hard drive using SuperDuper software, but I prefer not to encounter a situation requiring me to use it for restoration purposes.
The key to any update or upgrade is to make sure that you have a good working back up. That way, should anything go wrong, you have a quick way back to where you started.
My tips for upgrading the OS? Disconnect the disk with the back up and all other peripherals when you do the Upgrade. Pop the disk in. Do a standard Upgrade. (There are some folks who swear that you should wipe your HD and start over from scratch before you do, but, frankly, that's overkill. I've been upgrading Macs since 1992 and never had a problem.

  • Help with Nikon D600 NEF files, CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta

I have been unable to open NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Photoshop CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta.  Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.
RAW was set to 14 bit color, but I can't see that that would matter?

From discussion with others, it would appear that the files were corrupted during transfer.
I have some suggestions that I will try tomorow.
I have no problems opening old Nikon D700 NEF files in Photoshop CS6, and when ACR opens the file it indicates I'm using ACR 7.3 beta.
    Regards,
    Erich

  • Transfering photos in NEF ( RAW ) fomat from a Nikon D700

The transfer of NEF (RAW) format photos from the new Nikon D700 does not work and generates a - file unreadable - prompt. Jpeg format photos do transfer ok into iPhoto08 from the same D700 .
Also, NEF format pictures transfers from a D200 or a D300 work ok.
Anyone with a solution plse ? Tks in adv .

You might try converting that RAW file to DNG (Adobe Digital Negative). Adobe has a DNG converter that might work for you. iPhoto will accept DNG files.
    Adobe DNG Converter Application
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • IPhoto 09 and Nikon's NEF format

I have a Nikon D90, iPhoto 06, Aperture 2.1.4, and run OS 10.6. I cannot import my Nikon's NEF files into iPhoto 06. I can upload and view them in Aperture.
If I upgrade to iPhoto 09, will I be able to upload and view them?

  • How to open Nikon D610 NEF (RAW) in iPhoto 11 on Mac Os 10.6

Is there a way to open Nikon D610 NEF (RAW) in iPhoto 11 on Mac Os 10.6 ?
    Thank you.

The RAW support for the Camera is built on Mt. Lion,  see:
OS X Mountain Lion: Supported digital camera RAW formats  - Apple Support
and requires *Aperture version 3.4.5 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4.3 or later.  You'll need at least to upgrade to Lion, to be able to run these versions of iPhoto or Aperture.
How about installing a newer MacOS X version on a separate disk? This way you can keep Rosetta, but upgrade your photo library to a newer MacoS X version?

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The above list show the current camera models supported by Adobe Camera Raw (plugin for PS CC) and Lightroom 5.3.
You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3.   Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.
Please post details of the version you are using at present.

  • Cannot import Nikon D800 NEF photos into Preview, iPhoto, or Aperture

My iMac will not display Nikon D800 NEF photos in Preview, iPhoto, or Aperture. Any solutions?

    Need more info.
Most specifically, which OS version are you using? Which versions of Aperture and iPhoto?
From the sound of it, my first guess would be the versions you're running. Nikon D800 gained support in Lion 10.7.4 (Nikon D800E support was added in RAW Compatibility update 3.13 sometime last year).
If you're running versions earlier than these (e.g Snow Leopard) then the OS doesn't know how to deal with these RAW files.

  • Lightroom doesn't read Nikon D700's nef files Help!

Anyone know a way to get Nikon's D700 nef files into Lightroom 2 ? The only way I can even get an image in there is to convert it to a tiff in Nikon's Capture NX2 and export it. Is Adobe going to provide an update for this any time soon? I have the Nikon NX2 program for a 60 day free trial. I really don't want to purchase or switch to it. Solutions anyone?
    (I have a PowerBook G4 with Mac OS X 10.4.)

I have a D700 & LR2 and all works fine (in that area that is...).
I did nothing extra, so I dont know what to say
Except Im on a macpro, but that shouldnt make a difference. Should it?
Latest Adobe Raw plug maybe? Good luck..sorry i cant help
(maybe you know this already, but its normal for now, that you dont see them on the desktop/in preview or anything like that, apple is not ready yet..)
