Nikon D700 Support

My apologies up front as I am sure this topic has been covered in the forum, but I can not locate. Can Aperture be updated to support new formats (D700 in my case) or must we wait for the new Leopard release? Feel free to provide the link if there is a thread addressing this issue. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I just got the D700. put on the old 50mm f/1.4. first shot using raw+b and Image area FX. Aperture 2.1.1 says it's an unsupported image format (i can see the jpg thumbnail, but can't do anything with the raw file). Second shot forced the camera to shoot DX. Same result, not supported.
If you have a specific way that you shot and made it work with Aperture, please give more details. But for someone who's shot for a long time, you may have remembered that every time a new raw format camera came out, it takes a while before an application such as Aperture is re-released to accept the new camera's raw files natively (or even further back the computer won't even see the camera as a device).
In the mean time, Looks like Nikon Transfer and Photoshop works.

Nikon D700 support question

How long will Adobe Photoshop or Light Room continue to support the Nikon D700?

Once a camera model is supported by a new version of ACR or Lr, it will continue to be supported in all succeeding versions.

Till now Aperture worked well in mavericks, "suddenly?" the import of raw files from Nikon D700 is no more supported, only jpg's are accepted. Any idea what happened?

Aperture (3.5.1) worked very well in Maverick (OSX 10.9). After having worked on pictures, "suddenly" messages poped up saying that "his os not a supported format" and the thumbnailpicture became black. Since then Aperture does no more accept the import of the Nikon D700 raw format (NEF); omnly jpg is accepted.
I'm very puzzeled, can you help?

Thanks, Felix. A tiny bit of RAW finetuning such as sharpening also helps.
But I also just discovered several other weird and unpredictable effects:
image viewer => right click on image => menu appears => another click on image => menu disappears and image is displayed as rotated by 180 degree
image viewer => right click on image => menu appears => edit with plugin => image is displayed as rotated by 180 degree => plugin opens => cancel plugin => image is rotated to normal again
another image got flipped horizontaly somehow.
or weird effects like this:
Something must be seriously wrong on my Mac.

Support for Nikon D700 NEF (RAW)

I will admit that I am new to Photoshop CS3 and this is my first posting.
I have a Nikon D700 and would like to use NEF files for a lot of obvious reasons and I do believe that there is a new reader in the making. My question is does anyone know when this is going to be made available? I can use Nikons View NX and NX2 for awhile but would like to utilize Lightroom and Photoshop CS3 ASAP.

Yes, I think if Adobe support for a camera is official, then they would have to support the camera to their typical high standard. If there has not been time for adequate testing, and support is unofficial then you use the software
as is and can't complain if something goes wrong.

Nikon D700 NEF Support

Hi,
We have some of the New Nikon D700's that will be going out into the field possibly as soon as next week. Any idea on when you will be releasing NEF support for ACR and LightRoom?

In my opinion, you still are not thinking clearly. Yes, you have the latest and greatest (in your opinion) camera. But until you have software available to support that camera you're just going to have to wait like everyone else does who buys something the minute it hits the marketplace. You have to wait for software support. Nikon, Canon, Panasonic, Sony, and all the other camera makers couldn't care less about Adobe and Camera Raw support. They don't provide Adobe with any advance copies of their file formats.
Since Adobe is still working on providing support for your new camera, you're just going to have to wait. You want it right when it comes out don't you? Do you think Adobe is just sitting on their hands so they can watch you and others complain because they don't have support? Cool it! Support will be provided when the development team is satisfied they can provide it the way it should be provided.

Lightroom 1.4.1 does not support native (NEF) files from the D700 because the camera didn't even exist when it was released. To get support you have two options: upgrade to Lr 2.x (paid for upgrade) or convert your NEF files to DNG.
DNG converter 5.4 can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ (see right hand side of page)

You can't.
The D700 is not supported for RAW at this time on iPhoto or Aperture. You're going to have to use somethign else. It's one of the perils of being an early adopter. And this is a User-to-User forum so, no, no one here knows what timeline if any Apple have for adding support.

How do I "see" the AF point I choose with a Nikon D700/D3?
I hear a D3s and LR3.3 can see it.
AND, how do I turn it ON/OFF ?

I was told by a D3s user that in LRv3.3   AF point used is shown
Seem to remember for some earlier version of LR   my e510 or e30 AF points was being shown.
My guess is you would only start looking at the AF points used ... when a Lens or body starts acting differently. or when it is not working as well as other gear you are using.
As my only   RAW software used ... I would like it to READ what is there in the Exif.

AF distance (which was there in LRv2)
Shutter count (there in PS CS5)
and AF point used ... there in Aperture 3   ... and Nikon software.
Because LR s/b a PRO workflow software ... support for the Current PRO cameras should be expected    ... and that number is far LESS.
and for Nikon users it is D700/D3 series.    basically two cameras ... because my guess is the different flavors D3/D3s/D3x   of the one body , the reading of the AF point sb simular.

Sounds like the Sony A700 images you have are not regular uncompressed ARW raw files but cRAW compressed ARW files? The shots of my camera look like what you are seeing but only the arw files shot with the cRAW setting in the camera. If you don't otherwise need what is in DCRCU 2.2 then go back to the previews raw support on your system -
Delete the file: System/Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle then (re)install the previous version.

Are you downloading by connecting the camera directly via cable? If so, remove the media card and put it in a reader. See if that works better for you. It has for others with Nikons....

D700 first supported in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 5.1 (CS6 ships with ACR 7.0)
D7100 first supported in ACR 7.4
You probably just need to update Camera Raw in CS6 via Help > Updates.
Confirm which ACR version you have installed via Help (Win) or Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-In > Camera Raw.

Nikon D700 , photoshop CS3 and bridge

Hello I was was wondering if anyone could help me. I have just purchased a Nikon D700. I can open and see the files just fine on bridge but i wanted to resize everything using web gallery and nothing happens. The pictures i took with the D700 are just ignored. I forgot to mention that i also have a Nikon D2x and those pictures come out great using web gallery to resize them.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Nikon D700 RAW import shows only dotted boxes, not thumbnails

I am unable to see thumbnails of the RAW images on the memory card of my Nikon D700 when I import images into Aperture.
What I see during an import is a series of frames with a dashed or dotted border that represent the correct number of images on the card. I can select these boxes, but the selection is not indicated with any kind of highlighting, just with a number displayed on the import button. I can, however, import my selection, and once the images are imported, I can see thumbnails in the library.
If I shoot JPG images this is not a problem, only with the Nikon NEF files. I am using the Lossless Compressed format plus a normal quality jpg.
My look at other threads shows some people with D200s have been able to solve this, and they have mentioned fiddling with a USB setting on their camera. However, the D700 has no such setting.
Since Apple now supports the D700 in RAW mode, how can I get the thumbnails of the images in the camera's card to show up on screen during an import? It is a hassle not to be able to see which images I'm importing while I'm importing them.

I am having the EXACT same problem as you. I have the new Olympus E520— which like the D700, was not suported by Aperutre until the recent upgrade. Like you I was happy to finally have my new camera supported by Aperture and like you, I cannot see thumbnails of my RAW images on my memory card when using the import function in Aperture.
As you have said: Everything is fine AFTER I import, but prior to import, when reading off my card, only empty dotted boxes.
Also, I cannot see the images in the finder either. Are you having this problem as well?
Do you connect your camera directly to Aperture or do you use a card reader? I use a card reader.
Please let me know if you find a solution to this problem. Or if there is any other information I can give you. It's not just a Nikon problem or a D700 problem. After reading your post my guess is that it's a problem with newer, previously unsupported cameras.
It's no good not being able to see which images I'm importing until after they're imported.

Can't import RAW files into iPhoto 6 Library from Nikon D700

For whatever reason I am unable to import RAW files from my Nikon D700 into my iPhoto 6 (version 6.0.6) Library. I can import JPEGs from the D700, but it's no-go with the RAW files. When I attempt to import the RAW files I get the following message:
"Unreadable Files
The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)."
Can anybody solve this mystery for me?

It will have no problems with the updated OS or applications.
'm uneasy at the thought of upgrading my operating system, but I presume that chances of running into problems are much less than if I were upgrading a Windows OS. In case a problem arises my entire hard drive is backed up with a 1T external hard drive using SuperDuper software, but I prefer not to encounter a situation requiring me to use it for restoration purposes.
The key to any update or upgrade is to make sure that you have a good working back up. That way, should anything go wrong, you have a quick way back to where you started.
My tips for upgrading the OS? Disconnect the disk with the back up and all other peripherals when you do the Upgrade. Pop the disk in. Do a standard Upgrade. (There are some folks who swear that you should wipe your HD and start over from scratch before you do, but, frankly, that's overkill. I've been upgrading Macs since 1992 and never had a problem.

Cannot use the Tether Feature w/ Nikon D700 in Windows 7 Pro 64?

Just upgraded Lightroom from 2.7 to 3.0, then to 3.3. Am using a Nikon D700 with Windows 7 Pro 64bit.
Windows does see the camera, Lightroom does not see the camera. This same camera and USB cable do work fine on my MacbookPro snow leopard. i have searched the net but have not discovered a fix for this problem.

Found the answer to this problem. The CF card in the D700 must have no images on it. I had three images on the card, and, after I deleted these, Lightroom sees and fires the D700.

Hi guys. I have a problem with opening my NEF files from Nikon D700 even i have latest update of camera raw also Lightroom{latest} doing the same. I have Photoshop CC 2014. Before the update everything worked well. Can you help me fix this problem?

I installed CS 6 and than i installed the Plugin Camera Raw 7.1. i Restarted the PC and open Bridge / PS 6. And the D 800 files are not availlable...
