Nikon D7000 v camera RAW

My new Nikon D7000 RAW shots dont open in CS3 with Camera RAW 4.6. Sigh! What do I need to do?

Pick one of the following options:
Option 1:  Use the Latest Free DNG converter.
Have All Your Current Capabilities, But With An Extra Step for You To Perform.
You can download the latest Adobe DNG converter, which knows about the raw files your new camera produces and can convert them to DNG files your older version of Photoshop can open via the Camera Raw plug-in.  This is not as integrated an approach as using all new software to go with your all-new camera, but it DOES make it possible for you to use your brand new camera in Raw mode and get exactly the same functionality out of your old Photoshop that you always did.
You would download and install the very latest version of the DNG Converter (6.4 at the moment) then whenever you want to edit raw images you'll go through a process something like this:
1. Upload the raw .NEF files from your camera into a folder on your hard drive.
2. Run the DNG Converter application and select the folder (it works on folders, not files).
3. Convert all the .NEF files to .DNG files.
4. Open the .DNG files into your current version of Photoshop through its Camera Raw dialog, which understands the DIgital Negative format.

Option 2:  Upgrade to Photoshop CS5
New CS5 Capabilities, Full Integration, More Convnenience.
You can upgrade your Photoshop to the latest version, in which Camera Raw knows about the raw files your new camera produces and can open them directly.  This gives you maximum integration with Bridge as well.  And you get the new 2010 process for converting Raw files and new Photoshop CS5 features.

  • Nikon D7000 LR4 Camera Raw color issues

    I just upgraded my camera from a Nikon D70 to a D7000.
Problem: When I process the RAW /NEF files with Adobe Lightroom 4 the color is terrible. By that I mean, the images look dull, dark and have no pop. The coloring is not even close to what is displayed on the Nikon camera screen.
When I use Nikon View NX: The software which is pakaged with the camera produces an image which is, or almost identical to the image on the camera after the photo is taken.
I like the funcionality of lightroom better than ViewNX, so what I have been doing is processing with ViewNX and then exporting to a TIFF.  Opening up LR4 and then importing and cataloging.  This process is a pain and time consuming.
I also have found LR3 does a better job than LR4 at processing the images.
Is there a way I can tweak or download corrected ACR settings to match my Nikon D7000.

I have figured out myself the profile correction problem for my Nikon D7000 NEF Problem. It almost match to the one in NX2 or even on camera LCD.  the following is what I have adjusted in my LR4
    Brightness +1.00
    Contrasts +28~33
    Shadow +40~55
    Black -25
Don't Forget change the Profile setting on Camera Calibration under the Develop mode to match the what you set on your camera. I always shot on Standard mode, therefore I set the Profile to Camera Standard.
The following is the way I figure it out.
    1.  I imported the photo under "Zeroed" at Import page under Develop setting > Lightroom Genaral Present > Zeroed
    2.  Open one of the imported picture on Develop mode
    3.  Scroll down to Camera Calibration change the profile setting to match they one you set on your camera, in this case I choose Camera standard.
    4. Under the Camera Calibration>Process you will see 2012(Present), changed it to 2010, and change it back to 2012 (present again)
    5. You will notice that the develop setting automaticly change to the following (Brightness -1.00, contrasts -33 and black +25) Let say this is what lightroom did to your picture( from Nikon D7000 NEF)
    6. and then Change everything back to " 0 " will you find your picture nearly close to the one you saw on NX2.0 or Nikon LCD
If your found the step above is hard to follow, please just change the Brightness +1.00, Contrasts +33 and Black -25, and dont forget adjust a bit of shadow as well.
for the people who dont know what Nikon done to Nikon D7000, please dont be expert to say "you dont know RAW".  please read more reviews first before helping people who are new to RAW or even stuck on RAW.  This forum is helping people with our knowledge, is not to make people need help to get more confuse.
For Nikon D7000 user.... Remember turn D-Lightning off.... this is one of the problem will cause LR4 change your tone to more darker, especially on portrait photoshot. Hopefully Adobe will realease the new update soon to match the new system inside Nikon camera.
Please note that the step above only Apply for Nikon D7000 and Lightroom 4 only. And it is not 100% correct to what you seen on your camera, at least is 80~90% Match!!

  • Nikon Coolpix P340 Camera RAW plug in for Adobe Bridge?

Just got a P340 specifically for the ability to capture RAW images and realized that the camera isn't supported yet. Anyone know when the plug in for the P340 will be available?

Thanks for trying to help, Curt Y.  I did download the beta ACR 8.4.0.182 and have CC.  I checked that it was installed.  I redownloaded the images from the camera.  After I did that, the NEF files in RAW showed up in Bridge but no thumbnails.  When I tried to open them I got the same error message that these can't be opened.  I researched the beta ACR 8.4 newly suported cameras and the Coolpix P340 was not listed.
I tried taking the memmory card out of the P340 and put it into my Nikon D7000 to see if I could download the files in RAW as the D7000 is supported, but for some reason the files did not even appear on the D7000.  I guess P340 files won't be able to be viewed or otherwise utilized in a D7000 camera.
Unless you have any other suggestions, I guess I need to wait until Adobe adds the P340 to the list of supported cameras.

  • Camera raw won't open my raw files from bridge.  Mac user, camera, Nikon D800, latest camera raw update is installed.  Help!!

I don't get a photo preview in bridge of my raw files, just the NEF file thing.  Then when I click to open them I get a message that says:  "If you are attempting to open a raw file from a digital camera, make sure you have the latest Camera Raw update installed via Help > Updates"   "If the problem persists, visit the following link for more information: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111".  I can't seem to figure out what to do!  Help Please!?

Usually the problem with a newer Nikon camera is that the NEF files have been transferred or viewed with obsolete Nikon software, like Nikon Transfer for View NX, and those change something in the header of the raw file that makes it unrecognizable to Adobe products.
For new images, the solution is to either stop using Nikon products to transfer and view your files or update your Nikon products to be as new as your camera.
There is a utility to fix this particular corruption here:

  • Purchased new camera nikon d7100 and camera raw will not open any nef files, talked to tech support and they assured me an update would fix issue, did update and have  same issue still

I have photoshop cs5 and after purchasing a nikon d7100, photoshop will not open any of the nef files like it did with my nikon d90, I contacted support and they assured me after update that issue would be resolved...still not resolved, any suggestions?

    Good day!
Please check this list to see which version of ACR supports the camera:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
Then please check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
As you should see your version is not up to the task.
You can either buy a license for a more current version of Photoshop (CS6 is still available) or switch to the … Cloud License model or use the free DNG Converter.

  • Nikon D 200 + Camera Raw

    Hallo zusammen,

You can get Camera Raw 7.4 by upgrading to Photoshop CS6. It's that simple. The last version of Camera Raw for Photoshop CS5 is version 6.7. You could download the DNG converter version 7.4 and create digital negative copies of your NEF files. Those DNG files will have all of the original raw data in them and you will be able to open those files with Photoshop CS5. But if you are using Lightroom, it has all of the same adjustments that are in Camera Raw. Lightroom will create a TIF or PSD file that contains all of your Lightroom adjustments, and send that file to Photoshop. It's what a lot of people do when they don't have current versions of both Photoshop and Lightroom. It's what I will be doing when Photoshop CS7 is finally released and I can't get any more Camera Raw updates.

  • I can not open NEF files taken by Nikon D600 with camera raw in CS6 which I believe is Version 7.0

I don't know how to update the camera raw to a higher version as the link doen't work.

Which verison of camera raw do you have installed? I would update to the latest camera raw plug in. Here is a link to 6.7

  • Nikon Capture NX or Camera Raw

Using Nikon Capture NX, Camera Raw best for photos?

Indeed different profiles have different ways of handling things, especially at the extremes - especially when one or more channels is clipped.
In addition to comparing profile behavior, consider the point curve in ACR - @Lr4 we can now reshape the curves on a channel by channel basis, and that way fix many of these types of problems - admittedly such changes may need to be done uniquely for each photo.
And of course if (Adobe Standard) profile needs a tweak for handling such end cases, Adobe may be open to that... - if not for older cameras (in which case such a tweak might change the appearance of already-edited photos), at least for newer ones.

  • Which Raw plug-in using Nikon D7000 and Photoshop Elements 7 for importing NEF files?

Cannot import NEF files from Nikon D7000.
Which Raw plug-in is avalible for Adobe Photoshop Elements 7? According to Help sites version 6.3 is needed, But is it kompatible with Elements /??
    Please help!

It’s not possible to update PSE7 beyond ACR 5.5. You have two alternatives:
    1) Upgrade to PSE 10. 2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 6.5
Mac download click here DNG Converter 6.5
